Hey YouTube, what is going on?
Taylor Dunn coming at you from OACheddar.com
and in this video, I'm gonna talk about
what are some things to be keeping your eye on
while you're scanning and sourcing
this early Q four season, early September
to early October or on that range.
What to be looking out for to find that toy
or one of those hot selling items this Christmas season.
And ways to identify so that way you can be more aware
and even maybe make some buying decisions
before everything is absolutely out of the store
and you can't find it anymore.
So, I'm gonna go over two examples in this video.
One of the examples is the My Life JoJo Siwa Doll.
So any of you who are selling last year.
If you were selling toys,
you were probably looking for this item.
They were in Walmarts.
They are the My Life brand
which is a Walmart exclusive brand of toys
and it was specifically the JoJo Siwa Doll.
Now JoJo Siwa was very popular last year
as a lot of you may know.
It was just a big toy, basically anything JoJo Siwa
seemed to do pretty good last year.
But this doll, for instance,
you could buy this doll for $29.99.
It is currently selling, actually, for $125 right now
and still holding a really good low rank
in the toy game category.
But when this item first came out last year,
when we were sourcing it,
we really didn't know how good this doll
was going to be and if we did,
we would've been clearing out every Walmart
that we can find.
So a couple of things, couple pro tips
before I dive into too much about this video.
When you're looking at items that you wanna resell on Amazon
that are gonna be the new hot toy items of the year,
there's a couple of things to always be on the look out for.
Is it an exclusive?
So a lot of times these stores will have exclusive
like a Walmart exclusive version or a Target exclusive.
Toys R Us used to be a really big one for exclusive toys.
So if you're looking at a toy that isn't exclusive like that
there's a very good chance
that it is gonna do very well on Amazon.
The reason why, obviously, is because
if it's an exclusive to Walmart but you can't find them
at Walmarts, where are you gonna check next?
You're gonna check Amazon.
If you're gonna check Amazon,
you're probably gonna be paying a little bit of a premium
to buy that exclusive toy
that you could only find at like Walmart.
So if you find an exclusive, that's one big thing
they usually do better than other toys
that you can find the same toy
at all these other different locations.
The name of the game is supply and demand with Q four.
So you wanna find the item that has a such a high demand
but the supply is extremely low and you wanna be able
to gather up as much as that supply as you can,
leading into the Christmas season
and that's where you're gonna find
the biggest return on investment.
So, looking at the JoJo Siwa Doll,
I'm gonna scroll down here to the kepograph
and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna pull up
what this doll is doing when it first entered into Amazon,
and throughout the Q four season.
So I'm gonna highlight this whole area up to January 1st,
from the first day it landed.
So right when it landed, it landed on,
or the listing was created October 3rd, 2017
and what you notice is is it came out,
let's turn on the new price so we know what,
when it first got listed on Amazon,
the first price that it was listed out was $129.99.
And then a little few more offers came in here
and we'll see, I'm actually just gonna zoom in
this whole section right here.
And so initial offer came in,
sales rank was created at 95
and we saw the first sales rank drop
which indicates its sale at that 70 or 85, just $80 mark.
And then what we'll see is its sales rank dropped again.
Now when it first came in the sales rank was around
59,000 which is a really good sign.
And it dropped again to these low marks,
all the way until it hit around 2000.
This is over the span of, it looks like, four days.
In four days it went from just being on Amazon
to being on the low thousands in the toy game category.
And it continued to sell at this $64 price.
Now you're buying this item for $30, right?
So you're buying this item for $30.
And it was selling for around $60.
And it was selling really well.
And it continued to sell well at that higher price point
throughout the whole Christmas season.
It actually peaked around, and for the Christmas season,
it peaked around, 80, $88 and $90.
And then if you looked at the all time, you'll see
that it just continued to rise with time.
This doll was still on high demand, very low supply.
It's currently selling again at $125.
And it has a 24, 15,000 rank in toy game.
That's really good.
So the big thing that I want you to,
that I'm pointing out here is when you're sourcing,
whether you're doing RA or the OA model
and you come across an item that is very fresh on Amazon,
okay so let's give you what this week look like.
Very fresh on Amazon, and maybe immediately starts to sell
at a very low rank for a high price,
a bit about a much higher price
than what you're paying for it,
that is a very good sign that
that toy is in such a demand
that there are areas in the United States,
if you're selling on the US market,
that people can't find that doll or that toy
anywhere and they're in search of it.
And they're willing to pay a high premium for it.
So, again, keeping no mind,
when you're looking at these items,
look for something that once it lands on the market,
immediately starts to sell for a very very high price.
Another toy was like the Luvabella toys,
when they first, well let's look 'em up real quick
while I have it here.
Luvabella, Luvabella doll.
These items were, for a little while,
a very good selling item.
And then very quickly became a bad selling item.
This is a good example, actually of an item that
was a little more hype and didn't do so well
throughout the whole Q four season.
But there was an opportunity early on
and if you were able to capitalize on that,
you could make a lot of money.
And we did, actually.
We made quite a bit of money in a very short period of time
on these Luvabella dolls.
So again, I'm gonna go from the very beginning
from when it first landed on Amazon
which is in September and let's just go to around this peak.
So, could buy the item,
could buy this doll for around $90 at Toys R Us, Walmart,
pretty much everywhere.
And it first came in in early September
and it had a selling price of around
too too too doo, $250, okay?
260, 250, around 200,
all the way until about,
I'd say it was at 200, all the way until about
the end of September.
So there is this period in time, where this doll,
you could find this doll for 90 and sell it for $200.
And folks, we did that in our own personal business.
There was actually a time where I drove to every Walmart
and Toys R Us I could find.
I'd buy these dolls and we would merchant fulfill them,
taking advantage of this early window of opportunity.
And we made quite a bit of money
in a very short period of time doing this.
And what we did, the way we noticed it was
one, we would look at the kepograph
when it first got watched,
it came into the market
with around a $210 selling price, okay.
And you see that the sales rank dropped at the two
and it continued to drop and it started selling
very quickly at that $250 price and you see
the sales rank dropped all the way down to the low thousands
even though the doll was more than twice as much
as what you could be paying for it
in a Walmart or a Toys R Us.
Again, you're looking for items that when they get,
when they launch on Amazon,
immediately start to sell really well
and are selling for a much higher price
than what you're able to buy it for.
This is all a good sign that they are high demand,
low supply for this doll.
Now, here's the pro tip.
This item, if you were to look, all the way
to the beginning of January, from when it first launched,
what happened with this item is,
Amazon came in of stock on to it.
It wasn't an exclusive item
like we were talking about before.
And Amazon jumped in those item and brought the price down
to that a $90 selling price.
Too much competition jumped on to the listing.
But this toy wasn't extremely popular.
It had a lot of hype going into Q four.
Once it actually was in Q four or in the Christmas season,
there wasn't nearly as much of a hype for it.
So, this part was really gonna jump on
this early opportunity and to do,
and that is a strategy that we did.
And I would recommend it especially if you have
a little bit more of a high risk stomach.
You can buy these items and merchant fulfilling them
early on as a great way to capture some good sales.
But, eventually this item didn't do nearly as well
and it was kind of a flop for the year.
But, again right at that beginning,
was what we're looking for.
We're looking for the item that comes in, sells really well.
Okay?
Another example would be the Spark Kitchen Sink.
Again, another item that did really well.
You can buy these at Walmart for $14.95
and if you were to look at the kepograph
when it first launched, you will see
that item came into Amazon at with a very high,
looks like it was over, it was about a $90 selling price.
Then it went down to about 60.
But immediately started selling really well
around that 60, 40 to $60 price range.
And it continued to sell well, okay?
These early signs when you're able to find
an item that sells really well with that,
keep that in your repertoire.
Keep it in the back of your mind.
Always be checking on it because you may find that
hey this really is selling really well at $50.
I'm buying it for 15 and I can make a killing.
And this item is a good example of something that sold
all year around for that good price.
If you look at all, the whole Q four for that year,
if you look at the whole Q four for that year,
to doo, you'll see the lowest it got to is $31, $30
which is about break even.
But for a good majority of November and
and parts of December, it was selling at over $40
which is gonna make you a good chunk of change.
So again, whole point is when you're searching
or you're sourcing and you're scanning items
whether its RA or OA, if you come across an item
that just landed on Amazon and it's like selling
extremely well, and it has an extremely high selling price,
that is a good sign which way it's probably gonna do that
for most of the Christmas season.
And it'd be an item that you may want to maybe buy a few
and merchant fulfill them, quickly and make a quick buck.
Or maybe you wanna buy a few and just hold on to them
throughout the Christmas season
and try to hope to get that peak.
Either way, that strategy is based off your business
and what you feel comfortable with.
So, I hope you found that this video was helpful.
