The Best Travel Tips of 2017, From People Who Do it For a Living

From finding the best flight playlists to keeping track of lost luggage, our most experienced travelers share their tried and true advice.

We spend all year talking to travel experts who have everything down to a science: They know where to get the best noodles in Paris, how to beat jet lag, and the quickest ways to become a local while youre on the road.

We gathered the best travel tips we got from 10 hoteliers, designers, and CEOs who together logged more than 1,290,992 (aerial and nautical) miles in the last year.

Before I get on a plane, I always download a Spotify playlist that fits the mood of the trip Im going on.

Recently I needed something really mellow, so I went with Future Islands, Porches, and Angus & Julia Stone.—Kinjil Mathur, CMO of Foursquare (79,500 miles logged).

I always tell cruise passengers to get up in the middle of the night to look up at the stars—theyre mind-blowing when youre at sea.

When it comes to ports, be sure to ask the ships staff for tips, like where to get a late-night snack in Vienna: The Bitzinger sausage stand, near the opera house, stays open until 4 a.m.

and serves a great glass of Grüner Veltliner for less than $4.—Richard Marnell, SVP of marketing for Viking Cruises (76,905 miles logged).

My go-to room service order is nothing! If I want to eat in, Ill pick up the phone and call a Thai or Vietnamese restaurant for delivery.

I spent a month in Southeast Asia 15 years ago and have been hooked on the food ever since.

You still cant get a decent bowl of noodles in Portugal, so thats what I want on the road—even in places like Paris or Vienna.—Pedro Gadanho, director of Lisbons new Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (94,421 miles logged).

Ive lost enough luggage that I now take a photo of my bags as theyre being loaded onto the belt.

If they do go missing, I can show the airline rep a photo instead of describing them.—Tara Bernerd, interior designer and author (105,400 miles logged).

Hotel rooms can be measured by their bathrooms.

Its not just about marble sinks; its about comfortable touches.

Chateau Marmonts are the originals from the 1920s.

They relate to the history of the building, and a good hotel should have a sense of place.—Andrew Zobler, hotelier (400,000 miles logged).

Im always happy aboard Emirates.

I just flew them to Sydney, in the absolutely phenomenal first-class suite.

The service is whatever you want, whenever you want, and while the onboard shower seems so ridiculously opulent, I loved it—David Bowd, founder and CEO of Salt Hotels and principal of West Elm Hotels (106,766 miles logged).

I never fly without my reusable Hydro Flask water bottle, so I can avoid those single-use plastic ones.

It even has a filter, which comes in handy in remote places where the water might not be safe to drink.—Jean-Michel Cousteau, president of the Ocean Futures Society and son of Jacques (85,000 miles logged).

No matter how much I travel, I have a sort of personal contract with my family that says Ill always be home for dinner on Friday night.

—Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants (148,000 miles logged).

No matter where I go I do one thing, the same thing, every single day.

So if youre going to the Amalfi Coast, go to that one corner café in Positano for an espresso every morning.

Or maybe its the little bar you go to every night for a glass of wine.

Become a regular, and youll start talking to the locals.—Samantha Brown, veteran TV traveler and host of Samantha Browns Places to Love (175,000 miles logged).

The best way to beat jet lag is to get some sunlight the moment you land and take a hot shower before bed.

—Gordon Ho, head of marketing for Princess Cruises (20,000 nautical miles logged).

How To Prepare For Section 1 Humanities And Why 'Reading Widely' Is A Waste Of Time - Duration: 5:41.

Hey everybody! Doctor Tom here. Welcome! Happy new year! Firstly it's been an

exciting start to the year or actually it's probably been a very sleepy start

for many people but you know the new year is here, 2018 and we're about to

studyfor the GAMSAT. If you haven't already started. So I want to talk to you

today about section 1. How to prepare for it and why reading widely is a waste of

time and you shouldn't do it. Now, as I go through, if you have any questions type

them in at the bottom or if you like what I'm talking about, click the like

button and share it with your friends. But if you have questions as I go

through, click and type them at the bottom and I will answer them. Also, if you want

more information and more detail on what we're talking about today, go to the link

above because there you'll see a very detailed presentation and lecture.

Essentially online lecture about section 1 and how to prepare for it. But, right

now I kind of want to get into section 1 because I it's one of my favorite topics to

talk about because there's a lot of confusion about it.

A lot of people they like 'oh you can't study for section 1 you kind of just

have to know it'. Well, that's not true. Or they say 'I'll read widely and then

fingers crossed something will work and that is one of my pet peeves. The whole

reading widely thing. It's a waste of time. Don't do it. Anybody who tells you

to read widely what they're really telling you is that they don't know what you

should be doing and you should just read a whole bunch of things and hopefully

something works. Right? It's not effective. It's not specific. It's a waste of time

and you need to be more targeted, more specific. I'm gonna keep using that

word. And more strategic in the way that you prepare for section 1 because it is

a big section. It's an important section. There are so many topics that can come

up. You know, you've got poetry, you got drama, fiction, nonfiction, the old stuff,

the new stuff, the short ones, the long ones and if you've heard anything from

anyone who's done the GAMSAT before they'll tell you that Section

1, the passages are huge and you have to pump through so much in such a short

period of time that they often run out of time. They end up going over things

again and again and they get it wrong. And they come to me and they say 'Dr.

Tom, how do I improve section 1? I don't actually know how to do. People tell me

read widely but that's not working. Would they have a vocab list? Again, not very

effective way of doing things. The other kind of problem that a lot of people

have with section 1 is because it is so broad, so many different topics. What do

you actually do? How do you actually study for it and they struggle

with that particular thing. Now, we've got people arriving now, if you have any

questions type them in at the bottom about Section 1 and how to prepare for it

or click the like button if you like what we're talking about. But, anyway,

Section 1. So ,it's gonna be you have to be specific and targeted and it really

depends on you. You know, what it is that you read? What you study for section 1

depends on you and your background and your situation and what your experiences

are. Now, for me, for example, English is not my first language. Right? I have an

ESL background, English second language. And now my English is as good as a

native speaker and I was able to be successful in Section 1. Get through,

get in and become a doctor. And so if I can do it then you can too, but, the big

question is HOW. Now,like I said, firstly it depends on your situation and what

your background is and what you need to be doing and also know what you're

struggling with and it's a that there's a number of things to consider and that

is exactly why I've gone into detail on this in the presentation in the link

above. Section 1 is too important to just do quickly now and your mark is too

important for me to just brush over and do it quickly now so I want to go to far

greater detail and give you much much more than I could possibly do here on a

live session. So that's why I've created that presentation or the workshop.

In fact, it's a four part workshop. First section is about

first part is about Section 1. Excuse me. The second part is about Section 2

and third part is about, you guess, the Section 3 and then the fourth one is

about bringing it all together making sure you use your time and have a

strategy and get prepared for the GAMSAT in the right way. Now, this is

free it's an incredible in-depth detailed the workshop on every section

of the GAMSAT plus how to bring it all together and make sure it's personalized

to you because that's the important bit. And it's happening at the moment. Section

1 has already begun and I'm taking this whole thing down once the four

videos or four workshops are over so make sure you get in quick and to get in

go to the link above, register, and you'll be able to see the first session which

is on Section 1 and where I've gone to great detail on what we've spoken about

here and what you need to be doing for Section 1. So, now, if you have any

questions, type them in at the bottom. If you're watching this afterwards I'll

come through and come and answer your questions or if you've liked what we've

talked about click the like button share it with your friends. Until next time.

Head to the link above. Get in there all the best with your preparation and again

Happy New Year.

REACT - Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon in South Iceland! I used my GF for some scale in the photo - Duration: 5:52.

Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon in South Iceland! I used my GF for some scale in the photo.

Fjallsarlon is a glacier lagoon that you pass on the way to Jokusarlon on ring road (RT 1).

It is about 4.5 hours from Reykjavik City and definitely worth checking out! I wanted a person in my photo so you can get a sense of scale of the glacier lagoon.

This is in October with temperatures around 40 - 50 degrees during the day.

Camera setting: Nikon D810 50mm prime ISO 250 Shutter 1/200 F7.1.

I used my GF for some scale in the photo.

You should inform her that her new nickname is banana.

Those of you whove never seen a glacier in person just dont understand.

I was one of you until last year when I visited Alaska.

The first glacier I saw as I was hiking startled me because my brain didnt make note of it in my peripheral vision.

It hit me like a ton of dread and adrenaline when I snapped to and said, holy shit! Thats a fucking glacier! And the size, beauty, and power of it became clearer and clearer.

It reminded me of the feeling you get when you crest a mountain or see the Grand canyon for the first time.

Its nothing youve seen before up close.

Itll move you if theres a shred of biophilia in you :).

Super cool, just a little west of there is Skaftafell, and a bunch of other glacier that seem to fill up the entire horizon.

Definitely the most awe-inspiring part of the country imo.

Can someone with Photoshop skills let me know the width of the glacier in girlfriends.

Thanks. Its roughly 2788. 65 gfs3.

Id show my work but this aint high school.

Now we need a photo of your girlfriend and a banana; so that we can determine the size of your girlfriend and then determine the size of the glacier.

Looks like Tsunami.

I hope life is kind to him, he is a good son.

Wow it has a much bigger glacier now and very few floating ice objects around than when i was there.

People, after visiting the lagoon go to the beach nearby, there you can see the ice slowly floating to the ocean.

People, after visiting the lagoon go to the beach nearby, there you can see the ice slowly floating to the ocean.

Ill be there next month! This was one of my favorite stops during my Ring Road trek so many years ago.

Every time I look at a picture I immediately want to go back!.

Wow that's cool, but it's really small in comparison.

May I ask why your girlfriend resembles thousands of tons of slowly moving frozen ice and snow?.

Dana White Says What's Next For Conor Mcgregor; Mackenzie Dern Headed To The UFC - Duration: 2:50.

Dana White was interviewed by yahoo's Kevin Lole's a few hours ago and gave us some

updates.

He stated that conor Mcgregor has yet to decide on his return date to MMA.

He hinted that Conor McGregor could wait until August or September to fight which would make

it a 2 year absence from MMA.

Dana added "Time is your enemy in this sport, we can't let this thing go on forever and

not give other guys opportunities."

He stated that the belt will move on if conor mcgregor intends on taking that prolonged

break.

He continued "As long as Conor is willing to fight by March, we could do Khabib versus

Tony and then the winner fights Conor for the title," "If Conor wants to sit out

until next fall, then we'd have to make Khabib versus Tony for the title, not the

interim title."

As far as Cyborg he said "Amanda nunes want's to fight cyborg, that's the fight to make,

and that is the fight I will make."

We'll see if Cyborg accepts the challenge as she has said in the past that she doesn't

want to face another Brazilian fighter.

Dana Also didn't specify what division it would be in.

However, Cyborg has also said in the past that she will be sticking to 145 exclusively.

Who's your pick, Cyborg or Nunes?

The Nevada state athletic commission released the salaries for all fighters at ufc 219 a

few days ago and here it is for those interested.

I was a bit surprised at the amount khabib fought for personally for a fighter of his

stature.

I know he doesn't care for money but I'm sure it has to bother him at least slightly

since he did tell Dana last weekend that he deserved a bonus for his win over barboza

which he did receive in the sum of $50 thousand dollars.

Jimi Manuwa has finally found an opponent after claiming everyone in the top 10 has

been avoiding him.

I made a video projecting who he'd fight next but I never expected Jan blachowicz even

as a potential opponent.

It's a little questionable since jimi is ranked #4 and Jan is #12.

In addition to that Manuwa already has a decision victory over Jan.

His return on investment is extremely low here.

Jan is on a two fight winning streak and jimi is coming off a KO loss to Volkan Oezdemir

in July.

I guess he's just anxious to get back into the cage.

And finally Mackenzie Dern is reported to be making her highly anticipated UFC debut

on March 3 vs Ashley Yoder at UFC 222.

The young 24 year old prospect and high level BJJ player is riding an undefeated record

of 5-0 with her last victory coming by armbar vs Kaline Medeiros at Invicta 26 on December

8th of last year.

Hopefully the UFC builds her up slowly and not to quickly like they did to Cynthia Calvillo

this past weekend.

As always If you liked the video make sure to hit the like button as hit helps me a lot,

subscribe if you're new to stay up to date, and Share the video with friends if you found

it informative!

So listen to rush. Iwant to walk this way but he want's to walk this way. Why?

Rush: Because i'm a savage!!

go young savage go. heehhe
