An independent introduction to vaping for smokers - Duration: 12:07.
This film is going to give you some practical tips and some facts
to help you get the most out of switching from tobacco to e-cigarettes.
I spoke to Sam.
He made the switch from smoking to vaping and has some great experience to share.
Well, I started smoking when I was about 15 or 16
and I was smoking pretty heavily for about 10 or 12 years
until I heard about vaping and I've been just vaping for probably the past two years now.
E-cigarettes all have some things in common:
they all contain a battery,
an atomiser that turns the e-liquid into vapour,
and, of course, the e-liquid itself.
The first and probably the most popular, at least a few years ago, were the cigalike devices.
As you can see some of these look very much like your standard cigarette
thus the name – cigalike.
this device is perhaps what springs to mind when you think of an electronic cigarette.
I've given these ago before – I didn't particularly get on with them very well.
It's the fact you've got to draw on them really hard and it doesn't really taste like anything
and it doesn't doesn't give you much of a kind of nicotine hit at all.
Many smokers start on these cigalike devices – they're easy to use,
they're familiar to people because they look like cigarettes
and you even vape on them in a similar way.
The downside of the cigalike devices is that
they don't produce much vapour
or give you as much nicotine as you typically would have got from your cigarette smoke.
So, then I progressed on to one of these
which is a slightly more advanced, but still quite a basic, e-cigarette.
And this gives you the option of changing the voltage
so that you can kind of increase the heat of the vapour that you're inhaling
and, to some extent, the strength of it.
So, this is the little tank on top that you'd fill up with your e-liquid
and it has a couple of wicks that just draw the liquid onto a heating element inside here
and obviously you've got your battery on the bottom
that heats up these little wires inside that then vaporise the liquid.
And by turning this dial on the bottom
you can essentially change the amount of power going through that coil
and increase the heat of the vapour.
When you're using these it's quite a similar smoking action to a cigarette
you do a little breath into your mouth and then chase it down into your lungs
but you'll find you have to do it for quite a long time
to get a similar effect of smoking a cigarette
and that can be quite frustrating at first.
It still didn't quite give me the hit that I needed to get off of smoking rollies.
You may see reference to sub-ohm or sub-ohming.
This is where the resistance in the coil is less than 1 ohm.
With a sub-ohm device you're going to need a bigger, more powerful battery
but the advantages perhaps of using a sub-ohm device is that you generate more vapour
which for some people is important.
So, this is the one that finally got me off smoking cigarettes basically.
So, I had to go on a friend's that was the same style of tank
and it just it gave you that proper hit.
It's just a battery at the bottom and tank on the top
and they're both just a little bit larger
which means that the battery can last for a lot longer
but also that it can put out a lot more power.
So, with this one you can adjust the wattage that flows through the atomiser
and that can change the temperature of the vapour that it produces
and also the amount of vapour that it produces.
What sort of maintenance is needed? What do you need to do buy to keep it going?
So they're quite simple to maintain really.
You just unscrew it like this and put the battery to one side.
And the main bit of maintenance you'll have to do is replacing the atomiser inside.
How do you know when you need to change the atomiser?
After a while it will start to develop a sort of a burnt cotton wool taste
– it's really noticeable.
Probably have to replace them about once a week, more or less.
You can just unscrew the bottom of the tank
and then the atomiser just unscrews from there
then you can buy packs of new ones
that cost about two pound each
and you just screw another one in and then you can start vaping again.
Different electronic cigarettes use slightly different atomisers
these are usually brand specific
so do make sure you read the instructions when you buy your product.
And in terms of maintenance of the tank – is there anything special you need to do for that?
It's really easy to take these apart to maintain them.
You just unscrew the tank from the battery,
the tank breaks down into three different bits:
you've got a little mouthpiece that pops out there,
and then you can unscrew the base of the tank,
and this has the atomiser in it.
So that can unscrew from there.
and then these two parts can just be rinsed under a tap
to help clean them out because you do get a little bit of residue that builds up in the middle of it.
And what you can do to clean that out is just take a little bit of tissue
and just clean down the inside there.
You'll probably want to do this once every day or two
depending on how much you're using it.
And you can just screw those back together and connect them back up.
This is just a rechargeable battery,
it charges up with the USB cable – really straightforward.
I usually just charge up overnight and it's ready to go for the whole next day.
You may have heard about e-cigarettes exploding.
This is rare and is typically in devices that have been modified at home
or that are unregulated.
When you go to buy your electronic cigarettes make sure you buy these from reputable dealers.
You should care for your electronic cigarette much like you do with your other electronic devices
– like your mobile phone.
For example, make sure you use the appropriate charger.
Is vaping different than smoking – in terms of how you puff on these things?
It is different. The process of inhalation is different from smoking
– you have to do a lot of a deeper draw. That can take a little bit of getting used to.
But I think that's part of the appeal for it and part of what made it easier to switch
is that you are doing a different process and it's a different habit that you're taking up.
Going back to the cigalikes – they were too similar but not quite good enough
and didn't quite do the job.
I had to learn a bit how to do it
because, obviously at first, if you try and smoke this like a cigarette
it will be really hot in the back of your mouth and not be that nice at all.
The other thing you find is that people try this
and they'll think that it's a lot harsher than smoking cigarettes
and it can be at first, but once you learn how to inhale it properly
and just become slightly more accustomed to it
it's actually a lot smoother.
It takes a little bit of practice to get used to.
With a lot of these devices you need to sometimes do what's known as a primer puff
if you haven't been using it for a while you just need to warm the coil up
just to get it up to optimum efficiency.
And so, you can either just hold the button down till you hear a little click
or just have a little warm-up and then you can do a full inhale.
I tend to use this a bit more frequently than I was smoking rollies
say you have a rollie every hour or so
whereas with this you can just take a few puffs every 20 minutes
and you keep your nicotine levels at much more of a constant
than the up-and-down of when you're smoking cigarettes.
The liquids that you use in your electronic cigarettes are often termed e-juice or e-liquid.
They all vary by the amount or concentration of nicotine,
the flavour,
and the ratio of propylene glycol to vegetable glycerin.
Many people try different flavours until they find one that they like.
This is also similar with nicotine concentration.
I just want to make a small point about nicotine.
A lot of people worry – they might have heard that nicotine causes cancer, for example.
It doesn't.
Nicotine is the relatively safe component of tobacco smoke
and with electronic cigarettes you're getting the nicotine
but without all the harmful chemicals that you get in tobacco smoke.
The mix of propylene glycol to vegetable glycerin is also important:
the propylene glycol gives you that scratchiness or the hit in the back of your throat.
The vegetable glycerin produces more vapour.
You'll need to try some different strengths and flavours
until you find the one that you like.
Sam, can you tell me a little bit about the e-liquid you use?
When I first started I decided to use a really high strength liquid
just to get me fully off of the rollies –overload myself with nicotine
but only for about a week and then work down:
18, 12 and now I'm on 6 milligrams – which works for me.
Are flavours important?
There are a lot of different e-liquid flavours out there
and it can take you a little while to find one that you actually like and want to use
and you'll probably find that you'll just stick with the same flavour for quite a long period of time.
So, at the moment I've just got tobacco and nuts
which is nice because it's quite a sort of savoury taste
and I'm not a big fan of the more sweet, kind of desserty flavoured ones.
The thing is you can just buy little bottles like this
so if you try a flavour and you don't like it
it's not that you've wasted a huge amount of money
and you've got loads that you then have to use up.
It's a lot, lot cheaper than smoking, for sure.
Sam, there may be some places where you just don't want to produce
as much vapour as you would in other situations.
How do you go about that?
So, one of the obvious things about these devices is that you produce massive clouds of vapour.
Which is quite fun a lot of the time but, obviously, there's certain situations where it's not really appropriate
you know, if you're in a public space or in someone else's house, for instance.
If you don't want to produce massive clouds of vapour you can either just take little puffs on it,
or you can just hold it in for a bit longer and the vapour just dissipates
and you're only breathing out a tiny little little cloud.
Sam, if I can ask you if you had any advice
for someone that's thinking about switching from smoking to vaping
– what would your advice be?
Don't give up on it straight away because it is a lot different from smoking
and it takes a while to get used to.
So, you might find that you have to try different strengths of nicotine.
It might take a while to find a flavour that you enjoy.
Just experiment.
One of the key messages I'd like you to take away from this film
is that there are a range of different electronic cigarettes
and a range of different e-liquids.
You're probably going to have to try a number of products
until you find the one that's right for you.

Top tips for safer vaping - Duration: 5:51.
Hello. I'm the ghost of Sir Walter Raleigh.
Dashing adventurer,
favourite of the ladies at the court of good Queen Bess,
and famed for bringing tobacco back to England from the new world.
Now, I swear by my cashmere codpiece
I did not know that nicotine was so addictive
and that smoking tobacco would kill more people than all the world's wars combined.
I enjoyed smoking tobacco
but gave up for the sake of my health
and now vouch for the virtues of vaping.
Alas, we do not know enough about vaping to say it is completely harmless
but for old smokers like myself it is much, much safer than smoking tobacco.
E-liquid contains propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin
to make those lovely clouds when heated
and flavourings for that divine taste.
E-liquid also contains nicotine
which in sufficient amounts can be poisonous.
If a little drop accidentally gets into your mouth
spit it out and rinse your mouth with water.
But even swallowing a small amount is not a serious risk for a stout fellow like myself.
However, if a child swallows e-liquid
you should immediately seek medical advice.
Nicotine can also be absorbed through skin
so wipe off spills and wash with soapy water.
Only buy legitimate e-liquid as they have childproof lids
and the ingredients are regulated and monitored.
Store in a cool dark place
out of reach of children and pets.
Make sure you dispose of empty bottles safely
– wouldn't want you chewing up a bottle and being sick, hey Bonzo?
There are lots of different types of e-cigarettes and vaporisers
but they all consist of three main parts:
a cartridge or tank that contains the e-liquid,
an atomiser that vaporises the e-liquid
and a battery that powers the device.
Some vaporisers have the battery built in
while some have a separate rechargeable battery.
If your device starts to become warm when you're using it
let it cool or replace the atomiser.
You should also replace the atomiser when you notice that ghastly burnt taste
or the e-liquid in the tank changes colour.
When my manservant first saw me smoking tobacco
he threw a bucket of water over me
as the idiot thought my head was on fire.
Smoking is a major fire risk and responsible for a third of all fatal house fires in England.
Vaping is much less of a fire risk.
However, like mobile phones, vaporisers use lithium batteries.
Lithium batteries pack a lot of power into a small space
and if mistreated, damaged, or they short circuit
can release this energy like a firework.
Lithium batteries are covered with a plastic coating to prevent a short circuit.
Replace your battery if the plastic coating is in any way damaged.
Regularly replace your battery with the correct one for your device.
Ask for top quality batteries with a built-in circuit for extra safety.
Although rare, most fires occur when devices are charging.
Only ever use the charger that comes with your device or battery.
Using the wrong charger is a fire risk.
When buying a device with a built-in battery make sure it is CE marked
and has features that prevent overcharging.
Charge away from anything flammable.
Unplug when the battery is powered up
and don't leave it charging overnight.
Loose batteries and vaporisers can short circuit and burn or explode
if they come into contact with metal objects.
Never carry loose batteries or vaporisers in your pocket or bag
with keys, coins, or other metallic objects.
Always keep spare batteries separate in a plastic case.
Switch off your vaporiser when carrying it.
In the extremely unlikely event of your device rapidly getting very hot,
sparking, or emitting hot gas
move it away from yourself as quickly as you can.
And so there we have it, my cloud chasing chums.
May your juices be most joyous,
your clouds forever fragrant,
and by the grace of good Queen Bess
I bid you adieu and wish you safer vaping.

Boxing news: Anthony Joshua backed for SHOCK 2018 fight against British boxing legend - Duration: 3:20.
Boxing news: Anthony Joshua backed for SHOCK 2018 fight against British boxing legend
Joshua fought twice in 2017, beating Wladimir Klitschko and Carlos Takam to end the year 20 fights unbeaten as a professional and as the WBA and IBF world heavyweight champion.
Boxers around the world are queuing up for the chance to take on the Brit and his promoter Eddie Hearn has already outlined a plan to unify the division by fighting Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder.
And while Nelson admits the Parker deal now looks all but done, the former cruiserweight world champion believes a clash with Haye would be an epic, if left-field, encounter.
"But then it comes to the last of the three and everyone will say Fury or Wilder, but I am going to go for David Haye," Nelson told Sky Sports.
"Yes, that means I see him winning his rematch with [Tony] Bellew, but after that, him going in against Joshua will be a massive fans favourite.
"That, in late summer, what a fight that would be! "Haye brings huge support with him, so does AJ, and everyone would have an opinion on that one." As Nelson mentions, Haye will first have to avenge his 11th round TKO defeat to Bellew from March.
The pair were due to get in the ring together for a second time on December 17, only for Haye to pull out with a bicep injury suffered in a freak training accident.
The fight has been rebooked for May 5, which will likely be just a few weeks after Joshua's next defence. And assuming Joshua makes it through Haye, Nelson is eying a third fight for the former Olympic champion in 2018.
"Joseph Parker is a given for the first one and then I am expecting AJ to win it, but thats when the fun starts," Nelson added.
"Chuck in the mandatory then I guess I will have to go for Alexander Povetkin next - although I wouldnt mind if Kubrat Pulev got his chance again.".

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo desperate for Manchester United or Chelsea move - Duration: 3:43.
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo desperate for Manchester United or Chelsea move
Real Madrid could lose Ronaldo this month with the 32-year-old determined to embark on a new challenge away from the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo has been unhappy in Spain since the summer, where he was accused of tax evasion and openly stated a desire to return to England.
Though he missed out on a move, he is still keen to seal a move away with the Premier League his No1 choice.
And Spanish website Diario Gol claim Cristiano Ronaldo is eager to join Manchester United or Chelsea at the earliest opportunity. The two clubs are supposedly leading the race to sign the Portugal international this month.
Ronaldo maintains a love for United, where he won three league titles before quitting for Real Madrid back in the summer of 2009.
He has come close to returning in the past - especially in 2013 - but has always ended up signing a bumper contract extension. Chelsea, however, also want to snap him up.
The Blues could be forced to sign a new forward with Real themselves keen to lure Eden Hazard away from Stamford Bridge. Willian's future is also up in the air with United also eager to land the Brazilian.
It was also reported recently that Ronaldo has started house-hunting in England such is his desperation to leave Spain. He is also said to be seeking out English schools for his son.
And Diario Gol say Real are willing to grant him his wish should they receive a suitable offer.
PSG are also sniffing about but Ronaldos prefers the prospect of playing in the Premier League again. Speaking in August, Ronaldo expressed his desire to give English football another go.
I never had this problem in England, thats why Id like to go back," he said at the time of his tax hearing. I remember when I arrived in England and they told me that thats how things worked.
I went to Manchester as an 18-year-old and they advised me this was the best system I could use, just like the other players did.
In Spain they told me Id have to pay more but that thered be no problems. Ive always paid what Ive had to pay..

Rethinking Vodka: It's Not Just for Cocktails Anymore - Duration: 3:52.
Happy Thirsty Thursday everyone! Today I want to talk about vodka, you know that
unloved overused but barely thought about spirit. Why is that? Why is the fact
that it tastes like nothing, the first thing that everyone says they love about
vodka when taste is so important to us in
every other alcohol. Well my personal opinion is that the whole "tastes like
nothing" marketing pitch was invented to hide bad quality alcohol. Because you
know what? If you filter anything enough it's going to taste better no matter how
bad the quality started out and the more you filter something the more you take
the essence and the flavor of that drink away. I mean come on. You've all heard the
whole take, the worst vodka out there and filter it through a Brita water filtration
system a few or ten times and all of a sudden it becomes drinkable, right? Well
I'm here to say enough is enough! We should demand as high of quality from
our vodka as we do from our whiskey, gin, and other spirits. Luckily for us, there
are some craft distillers out there that agree. Instead of vodka just being the
first necessary step to make other more fun alcohol, they're actually taking
pride in this critically important base spirit that we all let off the hook so
easily. And one of these distillers is Re:Find Spirits down in Paso Robles,
California. And yes, I know I'm showing you their gin while talking
about vodka but a friend of mine mistakenly through out the recently
emptied vodka bottle after one of my parties. So until I restock, this is what
I have on hand for Re:Find Spirits. By the way, their gin is also delicious.
Very slight hint of lavender. Back to the vodka, not only do they start with their
own very high-quality wine ( wine, not grapes, actual wine) to distill into their
vodka but they also don't filter it. At All. None of this triple filtered
bullshit, because like me, they believe if you start with high quality ingredients
there's nothing to filter out but taste and why would you want to filter out
taste? Now don't get me wrong, when I say taste
I'm not talking flavored vodkas here. Vodka by nature is a very mild flavored
spirit but with Re:Find's vodka, made from wine, you do get a hint of
sweetness and earthiness to it from the wine and the texture is almost a little
thicker and more enjoyable, fuller bodied because of that base as well. I'm a big
believer that vodka is undergoing a bit of a secret revolution right now and
before we know it we're all going to be sipping craft vodkas like these straight.
But I know I'm not convincing you just yet, make sure to subscribe to our
YouTube channel and tune in on January 25th for a full exclusive,
behind-the-scenes video with Alex and Monica of Re:Find Spirits to hear all
about their process and resulting products. And make sure you start to ask
some questions about your vodka yourself. What's the base? How many times are they
filtering it? Why are they filtering it so many times? And, of course, try the
vodka straight before you mix it into your cocktail. Start to develop a vodka
palette. Lastly, if you already have some favorite craft vodkas make sure to
let me know about them in the comments below so I can go check them out and
maybe feature them here too. Until next time join craft and drink local
Cheers!
I'm back as a quick reminder the Crafty Cask is a scrappy little startup but we

alcohol so if you like what you see please hit like and leave us some
comments below the more support we get the more we'll be able to create even
better content for all of you and bring our amazingly fun vision to life. And, of

Season seven of the HBO fantasy left off with all of the series' lead characters ready to join forces and battle against the impending doom of the White Walkers' descent on Westeros.
Now, the 29-year-old actor has revealed that next season will see fans' favourites plunged into all-new situations, saying: "Each of the characters this year is placed in a completely alien environment at some point in the season that theyve never been placed in before. The former Night's Watchman star continued to TV Guide: "The thrill is seeing how they react to it and how they respond.
This season, I think, more than any other is stretching these characters. The cast are used to being thrown into whatever scene the scripts give them next, especially given the series' problem with spoiled plot lines and leaked episodes over the last year, and John assured that he's always got a "pretty good handle" on his character's development.
HBO.
You constantly have to reexamine your character John Bradley West. "These characters are so detailed and so rich, you can feel that youve got a pretty good handle on your character," he shared.
"You can predict how your character will react in any given circumstance, but when you place these characters in a new environment, its always putting them under a microscope." "You constantly have to reexamine your character, the American Satan actor added.
Another star teasing tidbits about the show's final season is Kit Harington, 30, who plays King of the North Jon Snow on the adaptation of George R.
Speaking to Deadline, he said: "I think theres a certain pressure Ive not felt before. "Every year there's always been a bit of pressure, but this season is one where we could easily let people down.

For Mormons, Succession Drama Is Against Their Religion (and beyond) - Duration: 7:02.
For Mormons, Succession Drama Is Against Their Religion (and beyond)
There will be no white smoke from a chapel chimney. There will be no church convention, no lobbying and no election. Mormons don't do succession drama. When the head of their church dies, as Thomas S.
Monson did on Tuesday, the next leader is chosen from the top ranks based strictly on seniority. The system is intended to avoid any hint of instability or intrigue, but it practically guarantees that the president will be elderly — even very elderly.
President Monson was 90, and had served as prophet and head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for nearly 10 years.
Following a tradition that dates from the church's early years, he is to be succeeded by the longest-serving member of a church governing body known as the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Right now, that man is President Russell M. Nelson, a former heart surgeon, who is 93. Next in line after him is Dallin H. Oaks, a former president of Brigham Young University and state Supreme Court justice.
You have to pass four more people in the line of succession before you get to someone born after World War II.
"It seems very predictable and regular, and there's a certain comfort that comes from that level of stability," said Brian Q.
Cannon, past president of the Mormon History Association and director of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University, the Mormon church's flagship college.
President Nelson is unlikely to deviate much from President Monson's conservative course, Professor Cannon said. The two men are of the same generation, molded in the same culture.
But President Nelson's priorities in office may be somewhat different, given his background in medicine, his experience training heart surgeons in China and his fluency in Mandarin.
"I don't foresee any radical changes, any revolutionary changes, but there could be differences in emphasis," Professor Cannon said.
President Nelson has already used his position as the church's senior apostle to endorse the teachings of President Monson as divinely inspired. Mormons believe that the president of their church is a living prophet who receives revelations from God.
In an address to Mormon millennials in 2016, President Nelson defended a controversial church policy set down by President Monson that declared gay Mormon couples to be apostates, and barred their children from most religious rites until they turn 18.
"Prophets see ahead — they see the harrowing dangers the adversary has placed, or will yet place, in our path," President Nelson said. "Prophets also foresee the grand possibilities and privileges awaiting those who listen with the intent to obey.".
President Monson's funeral has been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12 in Salt Lake City. On Thursday, President Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, offered condolences.
Over the church's 187-year history, the president has always been succeeded by the longest-serving member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (who is not necessarily the oldest apostle), church historians said in interviews.
The first time was rocky. When Brigham Young succeeded the church's founder, Joseph L.
Smith, in 1847, he assumed the presidency only after a three-year power struggle. But over time the succession process became codified to avoid anything like that happening today, church historians said.
According to the church's website: "The appointment of a new president of the Church happens in an orderly way that — remarkably in today's world — avoids any trace of internal lobbying for position or rank.
Viewed by members as a divinely revealed process, it is devoid of electioneering whether behind the scenes or in public.". The gerontocracy at the top of the church has the advantage of experience, but there are also obvious disadvantages.
Some Mormon bloggers have commented in recent years that President Monson appeared to be disoriented, or gave rambling speeches in public appearances.
The church announced in October that he was no longer coming into the office, and he did not appear that month at the church's semiannual international gathering, its general conference.
President Nelson is older than President Monson was, but observers say he is physically and mentally strong for a man of his years. "President Nelson is remarkably healthy," Eric Hawkins, a spokesman for the church, said.
"As recently as last season, he was still snow skiing.".
