5 Books To Watch For in January - Duration: 5:08.
Hey guys. Amanda Nelson here, I'm the
managing editor at Book Riot and I'm
back with five books to watch for in January.
These are, as the title of the video suggests,
five books that are coming out
this month that we think you might be interested in.
OK, coming out January 10 is Fever Dream
by Samanta Schweblin. Hope I'm saying that right.
This comes out from Riverhead
and it's translated by Megan McDowell.
So if you're doing any reading challenges this
year that involve reading books in
translation or reading books from South
American authors, this would fit.
So this is a really short novel, it's 200
pages and it's about a woman named Amanda,
who wakes up in a hospital bed
next to a boy named David who is not her son.
She doesn't remember how she got
there and he needs her to remember what
happened to her and to her child who is now missing.
And so it is classified on
Goodreads as a ghost story and also as horror.
And the cover does look a little creepy.
The synopsis uses phrases like a "nightmare
come to life" and "psychological menace."
So check that out. So that's Fever Dream
by Samanta Schweblin, comes out January 10th.
Okay January 3rd coming
from Grove Press, a lot of you all will
be excited about this one, Difficult Women
by Roxane Gay. Most of you know
Roxane Gay already. She wrote An Untamed State,
which is a novel about a Haitian
woman who's abducted. And, um, she's
super famous for her collection of
essays called Bad Feminist, which is
about feminism and pop culture in the modern age.
So Difficult Women is the
collection of short stories about the
lives of difficult women, of difficult
unlikable women who are in bad situations.
I haven't read this yet but everyone who
has read at Book Riot, including Rebecca
who's videos you see around here on Thursdays,
says that it comes with like some
massive trigger warnings. So just putting that
out there. There's a lot of abuse, child
abuse, sexual abuse in this collection of short stories.
But it's Roxane Gay and it
excellent either way is the word on the street.
So do check that out on January 3rd.
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay.
OK up next coming out January 10th from
Melville House is Glaxo. This is by Hernan Ronsino
and it is translated by someone
who's name I can't remember. Pause.
Uh. Samuel Rutter.
This is also from an Argentinian author
and takes place in the Argentinian pampas.
It's super little. A great pick also for
books in translation or books from
South American authors for those of you
who are out there doing reading challenges.
Or if you looking for a novella,
this would probably qualified cause it's super small.
84 pages.
So this is about a group of three friends
who have experienced some kind
of like betrayal and then decades later
that stuff comes back to haunt them.
They grow up breaking horses and like
idealizing John Wayne, as you do. And then they
get drawn up into this world of like
betrayal and romance and government
sanctioned murder and conspiracies and ah!
The Guadalajara international book fair calls
this author one of the 25 best kept
secrets of Latin America and this is his
first book to be translated into English. So that
is exciting. So checkout Glaxo
by Hernan Ronsino and that comes out January 10th.
Ronsino, sorry I said that wrong. OK coming out
January 24th from Katherine Tegen Books
is Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson.
So this is a rough one. Allegedly is about a
girl named Mary who when she's nine
years old is accused of killing a white baby.
So Mary and her mother, who's like a
church going black woman, were
taking care of this white baby.
Something happens, the white baby dies.
Mary is convicted both by the jury and
society and is sent to juvenile,
juvenile detention facility and then a
group home where she experiences a lot
of violence and you know the kind of
horrible things that happen often in
places like that. And then she finds
herself pregnant and wants to set the
record straight about what happened when
she was younger because the state is
threatening to take away her baby.
And of course because she was
put in prison for murdering a baby.
So she has to go find her mother and find
out exactly what happened. So that's
Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson, coming out
January 24th. All right and finally we
have Adam Silvera's new book,
History Is All You Left Me. This comes out
January 17th from Soho Teen.
Adam Silvera wrote More Happy Than Not,
which you've probably seen. It was a huge bestseller,
YA bestseller, so. So this is about a boy named
Griffin who's struggling to keep his OCD
under control. His boyfriend, Theo, goes off
to college where he drowns.
So Griffin flies out to California overcome with
grief and deep in morning and there he
meets Jackson. He finds out that Jackson
was also dating Theo at the time that he died.
So the two of them kind of bond
together you know over their mutual loss
but then they also have this competition
about who knew Theo best, who loved him more.
And all the while Griffin is still
struggling to keep his OCD under control.
So if you liked More Happy Than Not,
make sure to check out his new one
History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera,
comes out January 17th. And that's it for

DIY Sports Fan Decoupage Wine Bottle (HD) - Duration: 9:21.

DIY Sports Fan Decoupage Wine Bottle
All the materials I used for this DIY are listed in the description box below
Using white acrylic paint and a pouncer brush..
I painted the whole bottle twice.
Letting it dry between each coat.
Once it's fully dried, using a paint brush and acrylic paint in the color Thicket..
I painted a stripe around the bottom of the bottle.
Try to keep the thickness consistent, around the whole bottle as much as you can but don't
worry if it isn't perfect as you will see me overlap it to make it even, using the next
color.
Once your done, set that aside to dry.
Using the color School Bus Yellow, I started the second strip.
What I'm creating is the strip pattern on the team jerseys.
With this color I can go over any spots of the green that was to thick and make the strip
even.
Once you are done continue up the bottle until you have achieved this pattern.
I went over it several times and touched up an spots until I was stratified.
I then touched up the final yellow strip using white acrylic paint and a pouncer brush.
You can use a brush if you like.
Then let that dry.
While that dried I prepared the piece of fabric that I was going to decoupage onto the bottle.
I cut up a pair of mens athletic mesh shorts.
Using a pouncer brush and that same green paint I used for the strips..
I painted the fabric on both sides.
Remember that the paint will bleed through the fabric, so make sure to put something
under the fabric before painting and your hand will get paint all over them so you might
want to wear a pair of plastic gloves for this part as well.
Using binder clips..
I clipped the wet fabric onto a hanger and hung it up to dry.
Once it was dry, I measure the piece I wanted and cut it out.
Now it was time to decoupage the fabric onto the bottle.
Using a clean brush and Mod Podge glue, I placed glue on the bottle and placed the fabric
on top.
going around the whole bottle until the whole piece was glued down.
I then gave it a top layer of Mod Podge.
Let that dry.
Using a pouncer brush and the same green acrylic paint, I painted the top of the bottle until
I reached the neck.
Be careful and try not to get any paint on the fabric.
It's the same color but it will still be noticeable if you do and set that aside to dry.
Then I created the same patten to the neck as I did the bottom of the bottle.
Except I painted the very rim of it with the green.
While that dried, I prepared the napkin I was going to decoupage onto the front.
I cut out the design I wanted, separated the plies of paper but with this bottle I kept
both pieces.
You will need both pieces because I needed to add a white base before decoupaging the
napkin.. so I decoupaged the plan white one onto the bottle first... to then use it as
a guide... to know where to paint white.
Using Mod Podge and a brush I decoupaged the white piece onto the bottle.
Let that dry.
I then painted over that with white acrylic paint and a sponge brush.
Making sure to stay within the line but getting as close as I could.
Let that dry.
Now taking the printed piece of napkin, lining it up as best as I could, I decoupaged it
on top of that.
When that was all dry I placed the name using sticker letters and the number on the the
back of the bottle.
This bottle was request by my father for my brother. He is a big
green bay packers fan.
he also played sports and his player number was 4
Once I had arranged them the way I liked..
I sealed them with a coat of Mod Podge.
Let that dry.
I then coated the whole bottle in Mod Podge and let that dry.
I then took the NFL official sticker off the napkin packaging and glued it the the neck of the
bottle on the back.
Finally I sprayed the whole bottle with a coat of Rust-Oleum Triple Thick Glaze.
Let that dry.
and now you have a piece that any sports fan will love
I love how this bottle came out!
This was a tricky one to figure out but I worked it out and now all you have to do is
follow my steps.
Remember you can do this with any team you like.
This would make a great center piece for a super bowl party or a gift for that family
member who is a die hard fan.
It would also make a great piece for a home bar and lets not forget how amazing this would
look in a man cave!
