Updates on the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act - Duration: 5:10.
In my last VLOG about the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act, I shared the urgency of needing to address the pending repeal of the act on January 1, 2018.
Prior to creating my initial VLOG, I had a meeting with a representative of the IDHHC who shared they had no plans in motion to address the pending repeal.
This meeting took place right before the holidays in December. The information shared was quite concerning as oversight of legislation impacting the deaf and hard of hearing community is one of IDHHC's responsibilities
mandated by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission Act. #6 of the 8 mandates stipulates the IDHHC make recommendations on existing statutes, rules, regulations, and policies to the Governor, General Assembly, and State agencies.
Subsequently, the IAD reached out to legislators we are working very closely with to inquire about the steps needed to take to address the pending repeal. Before I delve any further, I want to take a moment to touch on
IDHHC Director John Miller's recent VLOG. While we appreciate Director Miller's VLOG last week, we believe he minimized the situation at hand. This is a reflection of the IDHHC's minimal experience and involvement in the legislative process.
To make matters even worse and puts the community at greater risk of not having licensure to protect our standards and quality of communication, IDHHC staff members confirmed during last Friday's licensure board
meeting that the IDHHC has not secured a sponsor for the act to be reauthorized and instead intend to initiate a bill during the veto session in November after the Governor's Office of Management and Budget (GOMB)
reviews the licenses set to sunset in 2018. I do want to advise there are other Acts Director Miller referenced in his VLOG that have been introduced for repeal to be extended.
I have one question: why is the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act an exception? Fortunately, the IAD has already established wonderful relationships with legislators who we were able to discuss with during this entire ordeal.
Our legislators advised us it would be in the greater community's best interest to immediately introduce legislation as the deadline to file bills with the Legislative Reference Bureau (LRB) for this legislative year is this coming Friday, February 3rd.
While bills technically can be introduced after the LRB deadline, these bills may be at the mercy of the general assembly's priorities (e.g., the budget issues). Furthermore, our representatives also confirmed it is
much harder to do what IDHHC intends to do in initiating a bill during veto session after the GOMB reviews the licensures set to sunset in 2018. Our legislator also advised us the Speaker of the House's staff shared the
IDHHC's recommendations are not of standard procedure and there would be no guarantee the bill would be introduced and the act would be reauthorized. Simply put, it is our legislators' recommendation we file
the bill and hold it until further decisions are made. In the best interests of protecting communication access standard, the IAD has taken the necessary steps to introduce legislation that focuses ONLY on reauthorization of the act.
By introducing a bill now, this positions IAD and IRID for success as we can collaborate together to identify additional amendments to the legislation. The IAD also reached out to the IDHHC to invite them to the table
to discuss potential changes, but they have not responded to our invitation. Last, but not least, I also want to advise you the IAD will be drafting a position statement in the coming weeks regarding the act and associated rules and regulations.

I went to this room before, got the scale model, I put it on the table, went back and

D.I.Y. Kids Wooden Puzzle Stool - D.I.Y. At Bunnings - Duration: 3:30.
This room could do with something playful and practical, so I've got just the thing
for it.
It's a wooden puzzle stool.
Paint them really bright colors or even get the kids involved to help paint them as well.
I'm puzzled why you haven't started already.
These are the materials and tools required to make a kids wooden puzzle stool.
Firstly, create your puzzle piece template.
This can be downloaded from the Bunnings website or you can design your own.
Place it onto the MDF board and trace an outline around it because you need to use the jigsaw
to cut it out.
Once you've marked out your puzzle piece clamp it down to your work bench ready to use the
jigsaw remembering that you will need to move it around, because the last thing you want
to do is cut through your work bench.
Cut around your template into a more manageable piece like I've done here.
As you can see I've still got some more of the outline to cut out, so you continue doing
that.
Now that we have our MDF template give it all a nice light sand to smooth off all the
rough edges.
Mark four locations into the MDF.
These will eventually be used for the legs, but for now we're going to use it to secure
it to the ply.
Now that I've marked my MDF, I need to drill all the way through.
Place your MDF template on top of your ply.
Use the pre-existing holes that you've just drilled to drill into the ply, then slip the
MDF under the ply so that you can cut around this using the router.
Before securing the ply to the MDF, make sure your two edges are nice and flush ensuring
that they match up with the drill holes you've just done.
If you're not confident using a router or you haven't used one before, just outline
the template on top of the ply so you'll know where the router's going to be guided to,
also remembering with these bigger pieces that need to come out take them out in small
sections so you don't have one big piece flying out at you.
Now the edge has all been routed we now need to unscrew this from the template and get
started on the legs.
Our legs are going to be made out of dowel and we're cutting them to 260-mil lengths,
but you can do them to whatever length you like.
Let's measure, mark and cut them to size.
The four legs are now cut.
Just be sure to give them a bit of a light sand just to get rid of any rough edges.
Once you've given them a light sand we need to drill the pilot holes in order to be able
to fix them to the base of the stool.
You want to mark the center of your rod because that's where it will hold the most secure
and stable.
Countersink the two remaining holes so when you fix the feet to the actual puzzle piece
the screws will sit nice and flush ready to be puttied.
Now all that's left to do is fix the legs to the puzzle piece.
A little handy tip: when you go to put your feet on, just screw a little way through so
the tip of the screw comes through so you can line up the foot.
There you have it.
All that's left to do is putty up over your screw heads, wait for it to dry, give it a
bit of a sand and be as bold as you like with the colors that you paint it.
The kids will absolutely love these wooden puzzle stools.
You can make as many of them as you like and let them have the fun of joining them all
together.
You can move them into any room of the house so your kids have their special spot to sit.

When we think of Penguins, the equator is not the first place we'd think to find them.
However, there is a species of penguin that lives exclsuively in the tropics, where the
climate is warm, and entirely different from the habitats of the larger species.
Their distribution is exclusively the Galapagos Islands of Charles Darwin fame, an archipelago
of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the Equator in the Pacific Ocean,
some 563 miles west of continental Ecuador.

Galapagos penguins are the smallest of the banded penguins and the thrid smallest of
all 17 penguin species.
Among all banded penguins, which includes African, Humboldt, and Magellanic species,
the Galapagos penguin is the easiest to recognize because they have black feathers on most of
their body, with some distinctive white marks on their face, beak, and chest.

Galapagos penguins are a sedentary species that stay near their colony and only venture
as far as 3 miles away.
They live in relatively small communities compared to other penguin species, but they
are well organized and coordinated to hunt in groups.

While the Galapagos penguins are moulting, they usually stay out of the water.
They are able to go to the sea for food rather than starve though since the water is so warm

not starve during the moulting process.

The warm climate and intense sun of their environment may sometimes overheat them, which
they solve by opening their flippers seeking to radiate heat and get the fresh sea breeze

The bird usually walks slightly hunched to keep its bare feet in the shade (to prevent
sunburns).

Galapagos penguins form couples that last for a lifetime.
These penguins are monogamous and maintain 90% fidelity.
They do not have a regular reproduction season, but it commonly occurs from April to May and
from August to September.
Females lay two eggs in nests built within volcanic rock cavities and both parent help
in incubation and taking care of hatchlings.
Chicks leave the nest 60 days later, and they can feed themselves a few months later.

Because of the Galapagos Penguin's smaller size, it has many predators both in the water
and on dry land.
On land, the Galapagos penguins must keep an eye out for crabs, snakes, owls, and hawks,
while in the water they must avoid sharks, fur seals, and sea lions.
The Galapagos penguin has also been severely affected by human activity around the island
chain.

Galapagos penguins eat mostly small fish such as mullet and sardines.
They are dependent on the ocean currents to bring fish to their feeding grounds.
Severe weather from El Nino caused a severe shortage of food about 20 years ago.
At that time over 70% of the Galapagos penguins died.
Whit only 1,500 individuals spotted in the wild in 2004, the Galapagos penguin is the
rarest species of penguins, a status that is often falsely attributed to the yellow-eyed
penguin.

As with most penguin species, the black and white coloration is called counter shading
which provides camouflage against predators.
The white provides camouflage under water from marine predators looking upwards, while
the black protects against birds looking downwards.

They are not by any means the deepest diving penguins, but they can dive up to 30 meters
