Waching daily Jan 29 2017

I think as humans we all have a preoccupation with looking dumb.

We are social creatures, hierarchical creatures and we don't want to shame ourselves, humiliate

ourselves.

But recognizing that by zigging when everyone else is zagging with that particular context

you can actually develop a super power.

And that is asking dumb questions.

And this came up repeatedly when I was interviewing incredible performers, world class of performers,

meaning investors, entrepreneurs, writers, you name it for Tools of Titans the new book.

And asking dumb questions can take many forms.

I'll give you a few examples.

Malcolm Gladwell is very good at asking so called dumb questions.

And he learned that from his father who was a mathematician had no intellectual insecurities

whatsoever, just did not care about looking stupid.

And he would constantly ask or he would first say I don't understand.

Please explain that.

I don't understand.

Can you explain that?

I don't understand.

Can you explain that?

And he literally might ask that ten times in a row and Malcolm mentioned that he imagined

sometimes what the conversation would it look like between his dad and Bernie Madoff because

his dad never would have invested, he just would've said I don't understand that at all.

Explain that to me over and over again until Madoff left or his dad got so frustrated he

had to leave.

But if we look at another sphere, say investing, Chris Sacca, a close friend of mine, billionaire,

incredible tech investor, just immaculate track record, is very good at asking dumb

questions.

And this applies to in the very early days where he did something very clever, which

was at Google when he was just an entry level guy really compared certainly to say the Wonder

Twins, the founders and others, he would go to as many high level meetings as possible,

most of which he was not invited to.

And so he would show up at a meeting with say Surgie or whatever and he would walk in

and he'd sit down and they'd kind of look at each other and ask him what he was doing

there and he go, "Oh I'll just take notes."

And they're like oh okay.

So he got to sit in on all these high level meetings.

And eventually at some point let's say he got through five or ten of those and people

started to just expect him to be around, he would then ask these dumb questions.

Sort of the pink elephant in the room why is no one asking this what seems like a very

obvious question?

And he's created some incredible breakthroughs in investing as a result of that.

The asking of dumb questions can certainly apply to exploring any topic or interviewing.

So Alex Blumberg, who's cofounder of Gimlet Media which has a slew of gigantic podcast

hits, just a factory for podcast blockbusters, he was the co-creator of Planet Money, which

is a very successful radio and podcast show.

For instance, during the subprime economic crisis he asked the question that no one else

seemed to be asking but it was just sitting right in front of millions of people who couldn't

quite figure out what the hell happened.

And it was why would banks lend money to people who stand next to no chance of paying it back?

And so very often the dumb question that is sitting right there that no one seems to be

asking is the smartest question you could ask.

Not only is it the smartest most incisive, but if you want to ask it and you're reasonably

smart, I guarantee you there are other people who want to ask they're just embarrassed to

do so.

And in this case if you can override that embarrassment and be the one who asks dumb

questions you can end up having best-selling books, you could end up having a huge blockbuster

of a podcast or many, you could end up picking the next Uber.

It is a super power in a world that is governed by shame and perhaps political correctness

more and more so people are not saying what's on their mind, they're not asking what's on

their mind and the questions here are the most powerful.

Peeing Yourself - Duration: 6:47.

well come Peeing Yourself

today's word of the day is Mick chirring

did you come here to listen to me talk

about juvenile topics you tell bad puns

well you're in luck it's what you didn't

arm that really pisses me off you all

read the title you know what this video

is going to be about being yourself

James is running out of ideas in my

adult life I've had so many close calls

with not making it to the toilet

I'm surprised they haven't pooped my

pants more often one time when I was in

college I was walking home from campus

and I sort of had that feeling that I

needed to go

I thought I could make it back to my

dorm but then when I was walking back i

just couldn't hold it so i started just

looking it back home

apparently running makes it so you poop

faster though but I first through the

front door and I just went straight for

the bathroom and it was close very very

close but I made it if the front door

was locked

I don't know what I would have done

another time i had a close call is

playing pokemon go

it was pretty similar the first story he

could shoo more like this that you never

mind i don't have a clean record

there's been times when I was a kid and

I soiled my britches before I tell you

stories about my childhood I just wanted

to say that according to my mom I was

potty-trained very easily now I have no

memory of this but apparently every time

you my twin sister went to the bathroom

in the toilet we got Eminem and my twin

sister bless her soul was having some

trouble learning how to do it so instead

i just shared my mms with her and

everyone was happy except it's been 20

years and she's still not potty trained

I'm still giving em to this day I've had

a couple of accidents happen when I was

in elementary school but only like two

times though promise

the first type in my pants in class I

was in the first grade my first grade

teacher was just humongous the object

humongous person literally she was

pregnant for the first nine months of my

first-grade career I deal with this

pregnant person and even as little tiny

six-year-old I hated her

now I'll give her the benefit of the

doubt he say that we are probably honry

little six-year-old but i wouldn't

expect six-year-old to be well behaved

so why would you get a pregnant person

feel sick all the time to be our teacher

was because you couldn't afford

maternity leave

one day she threw up in a trash can

right in front of us and we all just

that they're not really doing or saying

anything i made a video about this a

long time ago but one time I twin sister

got injured on a trampoline and she had

to be in a wheelchair for a couple of

months that happened while we were in

first grade

the one time when we were in class there

was a fire drill and a teacher told my

sister that you had to get out of the

wheelchair so she could get out of the

chair her legs work just fine

it was a fact that was injured but I

mean what if she was actually bound that

wheelchair do we not have an escape

route for the disabled believe that

share behind it will only slow you down

what you need that care to move around

well it's gonna have to iron but it gets

to work to get out of the school we had

to go up these stairs and I was helping

my sister walk up them you know because

the doctor told her she shouldn't be

walking at all and my teacher solve it

she knew my sister was in a wheelchair

two minutes ago and she said down how

pair you know how when you're a little

kid and you think that adults know

everything and they're always telling

you to do the right thing that should

have been my first clue that

nope what a female dog not just that a

pregnant female dog so when they asked

if I could go to the bathroom and can

you guess what you said she said no I

forget the exact circumstances but you

shouldn't ever tell a six-year-old that

they can't go to the bathroom because

guess what they can and they will that

hand raised

that's not really asking for permission

that's giving you a warning i raised my

hand a second time

uh do you remember when you told me I

couldn't go to the back room

well we have a bigger problem now I was

a new curse words back then you know

that kid that was inside my teachers

belly could be watching this right now

and have no idea how stupid their mom

this is why I'm never getting pregnant

the second time I peed myself i forgot

what great i was then hopefully i was

still in first grade it definitely

wasn't 12th grade but this time it was

at recess and I didn't know that you go

to the bathroom at recess

I thought the school was locked up

trying to really go to the bathroom and

I did and all my classmates that I peed

myself and I told them no I was drinking

water in the water rolled down my face

now

aggregated in my groin region which if I

was gonna lie should've just said that I

spilled water on my pants

no one believed me except for one person

my twin sister I knew saving here in

that fire drill was a good move but yeah

everyone else was right i did make sure

eight myself so guys let's talk i'm

going to tell you something I thought I

would take to my grave

so if we ever meet each other in real

life you're not allowed to make fun of

me for this

I James was a bad winter until I was

eight years old

look who's back master i was good going

to the toilet when I was conscious but

being unconscious I i was uncontrollable

if we're counting the total time in my

life that I've had an accident then

there's too many to count

there are many days when I'd wake up to

wet bed sheets that have to change my

sleeping position and try and get some

more sleep

the worst part about wetting the bed is

that you have no control over it you're

gambling every time you went to sleep

there were some things i would try to

help me not wet myself one thing where

these things called goodnight

they were pretty much diapers with a

bigger kid on the package your life hit

a low point when you have to wear

diapers for a second time i would hate

putting these things on because they're

totally stupid and I'm eight years old I

don't need diaper I literally never

slept with him on one I would take them

off every night before we go to bed i

hated those things I'd rather pee my

pants and wear diaper so since i didn't

like those i tried this alarm thing with

joyful hated you put a clamp on your

underpants and you put this thing called

an alarm unit right next to your face

and you sleep with this contraption of

uncomfortableness on you and if you

started to pee that would trigger the

alarm which would blast loud noise in

your face and that was supposed to wake

you up like hey you're playing problem

was that every time the alarm went off

I was too tired to remember what was

going on so I would just think with this

any get this loud noise away for me I

would just rip off the alarm and throw

it away and go back to sleep without

realizing what i was doing sort of like

what I do now with a real alarm then I

go back to bed wake up in the morning

and realize oh

that's why the alarm went off then later

I got some pills from some doctor I

don't remember what was in them but

every time I had a pill I wouldn't want

the bed but then one day I had a pill i

still want to that dough and i woke up

with clean sheet and everyone the bed

again after that I grew out of it

Basic Woodworking Terms - KERF {aka Saw Kerf} - Duration: 9:30.

Okay, as you can see, the KERF is actually the cut

made by the saw.

The width of that kerf is dependent on the teeth of the saw blade.

I'm speaking here of handsaws because,

When you get into circular saw, or table saw blades

it gets a little bit more complicated and a little more out of...

out of my realm of knowledge. But...

On hand saws.....

when you sharpen them, every few times, you have to set the teeth.

You don't have to, but it certainly helps because,

if those teeth are straight with the width of the saw blade...

or straight with the blade....

your saw will start binding on you and become difficult to cut with.

You have to, every few times

set those teeth where.. there's a tool...

a tooth setter....

that you use...

You bend one tooth this way, skip the next tooth....

and keep on going down the saw blade in that manner.

Turn the saw around and....

come back along the teeth that you didn't get the first time

and push them over, just a fraction.

Just a hair. Not even a hair,

in the other direction.

At the end, your teeth will be

one going that way and one going that way.

all the way down your saw.

And that gives you enough width

of cut...

so your saw will freely cut through the wood.

Or more freely anyway.

uhhhh

It's a hand saw so sometimes you get that... umm (bind)

But....

setting those teeth like that, setting your saw....

As some people say, setting your teeth....

That's what sets the kerf that you're going to cut.

Best way I know how to explain it anyway.

And.... a lot of people want to.....

Well, I call it a mistake. When I first started woodworking,

WHen I went to cut, I marked my line at....

Say I wanted to cut a 3 inch

piece of wood.

I needed three inches to go on a project....

I'd mark it for 3 inches and I'd cut it right there center of that line.

Which in some cases is ok, but....

Because of the set of those teeth and the width of the cut (kerf)....

of the kerf....

That can start leaving you with gaps.

Therefore, what I'm going to show you here next.....

ummm

It's what I've started doing and it helps a lot.

If I need to; if I cut a 3 inch piece....

I'll mark a 3 inch piece, but instead of cutting in the center of that line...

I'll move the saw blade just over to the other side of the line.

Say if my 3 inches is here and my line is here,

I'll start cutting on this side of the line.

That saves you from having gaps. And if it's a little bit too much,

you can always trim it off with a chisel

or block plane... what have you...

To get a snugger fit and prevent yourself from having gaps.

Also, what I'm getting ready to show you, uhh......

Sometimes you have several pieces to cut and you want to go ahead and mark them and cut them out.

Which is fine.

The problem is, if you cut on that line

you're gradually taking away material from each piece.

Unless you allow for the width of that saw cut (kerf) when you mark it.

uhhh..... Seamstresses have something called seam allowance,

I do something called a saw allowance lol

Here I'll measure 3 inches....

Then I'll measure and mark the with of the saw kerf....

Mark again.

And measure again from that last line leaving that gap in there which will

account for my saw blade or the kerf of my saw.

Again, if it comes out a little bit too wide, I prefer that.

Because I can trim that down with a plane or a chisel or what have you and

fine tune it later on.

However....

if I didn't do this my last boards would come up with gaps.

And that's not good.

This is my philosophy on it anyway. I hope this video helps you.

Ummmm.... (I got to get those ummms and uhhhhs in)

I'm going to do another one on Joinery and; this is just....

basic knowledge

of terms used in woodworking. A little series

I'm contemplating doing.

If you like it and you'd like to see more of these....

Let me know down in the comments.

My links to facebook, twitter, and instagram; they are all down in the description.

I got more of em comin.

ummm...

Above everything else... have a lovely day.

Have a lovely night.

Have a lovely decade.

Have a lovely twenty seventeen.

Have a lovely life. Because life is short and it's meant to be enjoyed. Peace!

Talented..? perfect!.. By Sheikh Salih Al-Maghamsi - Duration: 3:22.

Communities, in general..

In every generation there is a trend..

and if you had occupied yourself busy with it.. is it Halal?.. is it Haram?.. to be done.. to be avoided.. You won't reach a decision..

You'd be faced by opponents and proponents..

So, the question is about you.. yourself!!

Leave the case, being Halal or Haram.. what about you!!

Do you feel attached to it or not..?

Some times a person might get attached to it, if he felt that it fills a hollow part in himself

Then you'd notice that he is completely attracted to it..

and it is difficult to put him down..

and to deprive him from something that he is good in doing it..

By logic.. when you are good in doing something..

don't oppose people who are not good in doing things..

and when people are good doing something that you can't do..

don't stand against them because you are not good in doing that..

You are not supposed to have an opinion on each issue.

In Hadith..

' Indeed, Allah has ignored many issues, by His mercy, not forgetting about them..

So, don't ask about them!'

When you ask me for an advice.. and I know you personally..

your status.. your knowledge.. your logic..

After that.. I can..

.. tell you what to do or what not to do..

But, to give an answer.. that would suit all.. in general..!

I remember a youth..

He came to me.. I was at Al-Madinah.. if I didn't forget.. that was about ten years ago..

He brought his laptop with him..

his computer..

That was before people having iPods and so..

Then..

He came in.. in my house..

then he said; I want to show you something..

then he opened the..

the computer..

and he showed me his chanting.. Nasheed.. he had a nice voice..

and he showed me, where he said these Nasheeds.. at some congregations.. here and there..

Then he said; I want some encouragement from you and so on..

So, I closed the laptop.. I said; OK..

Then we talked together.. about different subjects..

He was my guest.. so we had some coffee and tea

I wanted to know more about his personality..

to know things about him, other than his nice voice..

I found that he is multi talented.. has remarkable mind..

.. has enthusiasm..

Then I said; You..

If you pursue this career, the best that you can do is to be a chanter of Nasheeds

mind that, I don't downgrade the career of anybody whoever he was..

But, you.. yourself, can be greater than this..

I know this person till now.. I know him very good..

By Allah, now he is a Judge..

at his country..

he left that path..

and as he could memorize easily.. so he memorized the Qur'an..

and as his voice was nice, so he became Imam at prayers..

After being an Imam, he completed his study, he was at high school at that time..

then he graduated from university..

his score was very high..

and then he joined judicial authorities.. and he succeeded..

at his country..

The point is..

There is an individual advice.. personal..

it is different from the advice that is given to people in general..

But, sometimes you may come across someone..

now I'm not talking about chanters.. I mean people in other careers..

He is a person who is good in his career..

and at the same time, he is working hard with his sloe.. he does Salat..

Good to his parents.. doesn't do big sins..

Then you come..

and you aren't good in doing such work.. you don't like it.. you don't see that it is a kind of ambitious work

then you say; This is not good.. this is not beneficial..

and you know..

that he is not good in doing anything else!

and as you have disapproved his career..

he became empty.. nothing to do..

then people of wickedness came to him.. the evildoers..

and they drove him to varied roads..

then he left doing the things that he was good in doing them..

because you were trying to protect him from a trivial harm..

but then he has fallen into a bigger harm.
