HISTORICAL AND ROMANTIC ISLAND "TSUSHIMA" IN NAGASAKI, JAPAN - Duration: 10:33.Hello, it's Chien Chien from Feel Fukuoka
I'm here at the domestic terminal of Fukuoka Airport
From here you can easily go to many islands in the Kyushu area
I'll show you around Tsushima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture,
one of the Japanese Islands located between Kyushu and the Korean Peninsula
For me, it's the first time going there, so I'm really excited
Let's go!
You can get to Tsushima from Fukuoka Airport within 35 minutes
Once you arrive at Tsushima Airport, you can find a bus bound for the central area
Alternatively, you can also go by ferry and high-speed boat from Hakata Port to Tsushima
Foreign rent-a-car drivers will get a special sticker to identify them to other drivers
Please follow the Japanese traffic rules and drive safely
The island is a great destination for nature lovers
Tsushima is a natural and cultural treasure trove and visitors may find themselves lost to the island's charms
Very beautiful view!
It's a very quiet place
It seems like that no one lives here
Sea Kayaking around Aso-wan Bay is one of the best ways you can explore Tsushima
Experienced and certified instructors will explain the basics of kayaking to every customer so that even beginners can enjoy a day of Kayak adventures
I'm very nervous
I'm a bit scared
After some practice, even beginners can do kayaking
Aso-wan Bay is located in the central part of the island
Various sizes of inlets and small islands create a deeply indented coastline
The sheltered waters of Aso-wan Bay are excellent for beginners and the tours offer breathtaking views of mountains and beaches
What's over there?
At first, I was really scared
I nearly rolled upside down
But after some practicing, it was really fun
Wow…Amazing!
The opportunity to explore historical and cultural places in the middle of untouched nature is something you shouldn't miss
The path is pretty rugged
There was a scary bridge
Due to its strategic location, Tsushima played a significant role in diplomacy
Furthermore, the island was several times frontline and battlefield in conflicts
I could experience the long history of Tsushima
Tsushima is famous for its so-called "Taishu Soba" noodle dishes
It's said, that Tsushima is the land in which Japanese soba was invented
They are also called "Juwari Soba (100%)", the finest variety, made entirely of buckwheat
The noodles are characterized by its small grain and strong flavor
Compared to normal soba, the noodles consistency is much softer
Probably, because it consists entirely of buckwheat
Very delicious
It's shaking…
"Ayumodoshi Natural Park" is a large park area set among the nearby hills and streams
One stream in particular cuts across a bed of rock, creating small rapids
Tsushima is blessed with rich fishing grounds
Stone Grill is a traditional way of cooking among fishermen on Tsushima Island
Cooking on stone provides far-infrared radiation that cooks the meat very juicy and soft
Delicious!
A must try, is the so-called "Tonchan" dish
Pork slices dipped in a sweet and spicy sauce are cooked with vegetables
Because of the special spices the meat is soft and tastes very good
Much of Tsushima is covered by natural vegetation and mountains
There are a bunch of incredible hikes dotted around the island
You can also see old castle walls and gun batteries along the way
I reached the summit!
Look!
It's the first time for me to climb such a high mountain
Actually, it's the first time ever I reached a mountain's summit
There are many historical sites such as old castle ruins and gardens at Tsushima
This Buddhist temple was built by one of the lords of Tsushima during the Edo Period
This temple contains memorial tablets of the island's former lords
A very long stone staircace
In front of the graves, there are giant cedar trees which are said to be more than 1200 years old
It's said that the cedars boast the ages of Tsushima
I saw something interesting when I was walking around
Do you know what they are?
They are all squids!
Squid fishing has a long history in Tsushima
Ocean currents around the island gather marine life and offer rich fish grounds
Open air drying using sun and wind has been practiced since ancient times to preserve seafood
I found a restaurant for "Tsushima Burger"!
Tsushima Burger is a local specialty
Tsushima Burger contains of squids and a beef-based patty with hijiki seaweed
It's covered with a sweet mayonnaise dressing
The squid is really good
It's the first time that I had such soft squid
The meat is also juicy
I highly recommend the burger, especially to women
Because of the hijiki it's healthy and very delicious
There are two "Torii(Shinto Gate)" in the sea
Only at low tide, it's possible to go near the torii gates
An amazing view
Shrines and temples are considered sacred places Hence, it's crucial to follow the rules and honor these places
The way how to worship correctly is shown in English Chinese and Korean here
From the "Mt. Eboshi Viewpoint" you can see the islands of Tsushima
Tsushima is a place, full of nature and history
If you come to Tsushima, you can experience many things
I could feel the history and explore the rich nature of the island
You can come here from Fukuoka in just 30 minutes
That's faster than going from Taipei to Kaohsiung
I highly recommend this destination Please come and visit Tsushima
