Chapter 1: Why is Holocaust Education Relevant? - Duration: 2:35.

Teaching about the Holocaust can be overwhelming.

How do you provide a meaningful learning experience for your students,

whether you have a month, a week, or even less?

What is an effective approach

to make learning about the Holocaust

relevant to students in todays world?

We, at Echoes and Reflections,

would like to share our approach with you.

With the end of WWII,

as the horrors of the Holocaust were revealed,

the world was shocked.

The dimensions of the catastrophe were unprecedented.

It was the first time

that an attempt was made to completely annihilate an entire nation.

Every single Jew was targeted.

It was not a battle over territory, assets or power.

This was a murder motivated by antisemitic, racist ideology.

Seventy years have passed.

Genocides and wars have happened since then.

Why is it still so important to teach about the Holocaust?

Echoes and Reflections is a program

that was created to prepare educators to teach about the Holocaust.

The Holocaust is a human story.

A story relevant to us all.

It was perpetrated by human beings against human beings,

in the center of civilization.

The Holocaust raises deep questions of morality,

ethics and human behavior that continue to echo today.

Here we can see Jewish men being deported to concentration camps after "Kristallnacht",

the Night of Broken Glass.

Here are the Jewish victims, here are the perpetrators.

Watching are the bystanders.

This photo, a primary source, raises many questions.

Why are these innocent people being deported?

Why aren't the bystanders doing something to help?

In order to answer, we must contextualize the photograph,

as we do with all other resources we use,

by relating it to the events of the period.

Chapter 4: Teaching About the Bystanders - Duration: 0:48.

During the Holocaust, as their neighbors watched,

Jews were torn from the homes they had lived in for generations.

These people are participating in an auction of Jewish belongings.

Did they question whether something had happened to their Jewish neighbors?

Can we really see them as uninvolved bystanders?

These people also had a choice.

Elie Wiesel said that the opposite of love is not hate;

it is indifference.

This indifference was what enabled evil to spread.

Newspaper correct to downplay Rice story - Duration: 1:13.

Regarding "Paper should focus on the Rice controversy" (April 5): Far from a cover-up,

the U-T is exercising sound journalistic judgment in keeping the Susan Rice story in proper perspective;

i.e. treating it like the nonstory that it is and focusing on the dramatic personae pumping it full of hot air.

The Eli Lake Bloomberg story, cited as the smoking gun, actually states that the alleged "unmasking" was likely legal, and at any rate does not support the administration's claims of surveillance.

The Wall Street Journal concurred in this conclusion.

Speaking to Slate, the former NSA director, Michael Hayden, said unmasking requests by high-ranking security officials are, "Absolutely lawful. Even somewhat routine."

Consider also that the originator of the "story" is Mike Cernovich, whose claim to fame so far is the outlandish (and dangerous) pizza-gate conspiracy theory.

While the Susan Rice story legitimately begs the question about the scope of government surveillance generally, the allegations that Rice did something illegal, or even unprecedented, is fake news and deserves to be treated as such.

Oscars Moonlight vs. La La Land - Duration: 5:30.

Hi, everyone!

Welcome to the HK Channel.

My name is Horacio and I am the host for today!

Today, we will be talking about the most popular movies in the 2017 Oscars 89th Academy Awards,

Moonlight and La La Land.

In my opinion, La La Land and Moonlight are both very different films and one can't

be pitted against each other.

While La La Land lifts you off your feet and fills your heart with an enormous amount of

happiness, Moonlight whispers in your ears, holds your hands and tries to have a conversation.

Additionally, the biggest mistake in Oscars history after La La Land wrongly named Best

Picture winner.

So, everyone should know that Moonlight has won the best picture in the 2017 Oscars 89th

Academy Awards.

Moonlight was also the first film with an all-black cast.

It's about the life of a black boy growing up in an impoverished Miami neighborhood at

the mercy of an addict mother.

But it's also about a gay kid struggling with his sexuality, hiding who he is for self-protection,

bullied at school for being different and forced to deal with inner issues of acceptance

alone.

It should win because it's a landmark film about the power of empathy and the importance

of being loved.

A major theme of Moonlight is the black male identity and its interactions with sexual

identity.

The film makes us learn to explore the path of a man from a neglected childhood, through

an angry youth, to self-realization and fulfillment in adulthood.

It's also not a film that was made to impress or even be seen by Academy voters, it was

made for something bigger than that and so, with or without the award, its legacy will

live on, showing black gay kids that their lives matter.

La La Land is an American musical romantic drama film that gets the most awards in 89th

Academy Awards.

This is the gorgeous romantic musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as Mia and Seb,

the smart would-be movie star who falls for the grumpy jazz fan.

La La Land is already becoming a classic on its own terms, and the opening sequence on

the traffic-jammed freeway has grabbed hearts everywhere.

Ryan and Emma are superb in the roles of Seb and Mia and their love affair is wonderfully

persuasive.

The four seasons of their love affair are played out with such tenderness, luxury and

style.

And perhaps the killer punch is the film's ending, with its alternative-reality daydream:

heart-wrenching, romantic, unbearably sad, in such a way that a reflective glow of something

like joy and hopefulness is projected on to the events that led up to it.

All in all, I really enjoy different stylish of movies that I gets to learn what the movies want to tell us.

I think both movies have the opportunity to win the best picture for the 2017 Oscars 89th Academy Awards

Striking a Syrian Base: Trump Sidetracked Attention From Old Scandals - Duration: 4:06.

Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to meet USA's new Secretary of State Rex Tillerson this week.

That is, of course, if he doesn't wag his tail away from this,

just like the British diplomat Boris Johnson, who canceled his visit to Moscow once again.

But here it's just like in an old American movie: "Wag the Dog."

Let's find out.

There are things that are obvious. First, we've already talked about this.

Striking Syria is a good distraction from what Americans already did

or allowed to happen in Mosul, Iraq.

A humanitarian disaster in Mosul is such an optional topic in American media

that the only people who follow it are political pundits.

The regular US audience probably doesn't know where Mosul is located.

A tough guy image is what matters for the mass audience.

So Donald Trump showed just how tough he is

by striking somewhere overseas.

During his speech Trump, of course, spoke of the children

that suffered from obviously barbarian chemical weapons.

Even though it was clear during the Security Council meeting in New York

that there are no verdicts by UN on this yet.

Also, before this, Americans didn't react in any way

to the chemical weapons being used by militants.

Even more, there was an interesting message from Ria News last night.

A publication from 2013 mystically disappeared from the London's Daily Mail website.

It spoke of US plans to execute a chemical attack in Syria

and blame Assad for it.

But let's say it's ancient history, it's 2013.

What about now?

Why did Trump go for this obvious violation of international law?

Because this strike was without approval from the Security Council and his own Congress.

Why did he do what Obama didn't do in Syria?

It might sound a little political and cynical after all those people dying,

but Trump achieved something important for himself.

First, the strike in Syria took away some of the heat

from the scandals around his administration.

After what his former National Security advisor, Michael Flynn, told about himself this week

and after his Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, resigned.

Now Trump was able to bring his own nominee even into the Supreme Court.

And now he, of course, has more room to maneuver inside the country.

Second, the Syria strike was supported

by Israel, Saudi Arabia, and by leading NATO countries in Europe.

Meaning that the West is united again, and the US is once again in command.

But here are more questions.

The US Navy sent 59 cruise missiles, or Tomahawks, towards Syria.

Some of them were either used or misprogrammed, but they didn't make it.

Yesterday, in Evgeny Poddubny's footage we saw that the craters aren't that big.

And the runway is unharmed.

So, even though the victims' relatives won't agree, the hits were symbolic.

This was probably a signal.

A signal for whom?

A signal for Damascus?

Maybe, but they can't do anything without the Syrian Government Army.

They're still the main local force, capable to stand against ISIS on Earth.

A signal to Moscow?

Moscow immediately paused the Russian-American treaty

to avoid near-miss flights.

So the Secretary of State Tillerson can come to Russia,

but US Air Force airplanes can't fly freely over Syria now,

what if they bump into the Russians, who would want that?

So it was probably a signal to their own, in America, and in the West in general.

This check up on rank discipline could be

a rehearsal for a strike somewhere else in the world.

While it was night in Moscow, American NBC aired a footage about North Korea.

Or what actions were offered to Trump against North Korea by the National Security Council.

The first option was to bring back American nuclear weapons to South Korea.

The third option was to send the Special Forces there to sabotage infrastructure.

And the second option was to physically get rid of Kim Jong-un.

But North Korea has more than just old MiGs in their service.

If Pyongyang fights back, the entire world won't like it.

PHOTOSHOP BLENDING MODE USES THAT LOOK DOPE - 𝕯𝖔𝖕𝖊 - Duration: 6:42.

in today's graphic design tips video I'm

going to show you 4 blending mode uses

that look dope

what is up people it's tom with satori

graphics back again with another

graphic design tips video today I have

4 dope uses for the blending modes in

Photoshop for you to try out for

yourself the first technique for using

Photoshop blending modes is based around

pegs or hand lettering in Adobe

Illustrator I have made some custom hand

lettering myself as you can see here you

can use kind of tanks for this pending

however or bring any with the photoshop

the blending mode options in Photoshop

are located here and this is where we

will be creating our effects today for

this effect choose overlay the text

should be white and it helps to have a

somewhat dark image for the background

as you can see it really let the light

shine through the text anyway that's

simply lowering the opacity we're not

doing let's try a few other blending

options out in the same category and for

this I think they believe the best

blending mode option

let's try now the black tag since the

other outcome is I'm going to use a

burly again but feel free to experiment

with different blending modes

this next use for photoshop blending

mode options really helps you have an

mu2 a document of eggs which is on one

clutton image and you want to place it

over a different image without the white

background showing up quickly made this

mock-up a port image for the video

usually you would have to go down to the

magic wand tool and believe the what

areas that way but I will take a lot of

time set the blending mode of your way

document into multiply and just like

magic new malaria's

if you set it a screen then the black

areas will become transparent this is

great for web graphics the infographics

brochures and many of the areas of

graphic design if you have black

background to your text and the text is

white you can apply screen as a blending

mode and you have mainly the White House

content over the top you could also add

a white background with a lower apt for

added effect I really love this effect

personally it looks really professional

in my opinion

the third Photoshop blending mode use to

allow you to take an image of yourself

for a different person and you can make

it look instantly better this image on

the screen already has some photoshop

work done to it seems but we can still

enhance it with blending modes unlock

the layer and hit among J to duplicate

it on the new layer said the blending

mode to overlay and then adjusted beta T

to whatever you think looks best then

for an even enhanced effect we can add a

blur to the top layer remember that the

blending mode activated will stop the

preview here of them of the blur being

the end result as you can see telling

the enhanced layer on and off show the

difference between one blending my

adjustment and while you can actually do

the last blending mode effect you can

use involves using a texture over an

image so here we have a man and also a

brick wall you can use the blending mode

to add the bricks across the skin the

texture has to be in the bottom layer

with this technique for this effect you

can try these five blending modes here

I personally going to go to multiply for

my design

with the rated who I'm going to delete

through the brick layer to add to the

effect

so try this fetish or blending mode uses

our yourself and see how dope you can

make your graphic design using them I

hope you enjoy the video and some of my

attentive viewers would have noticed i'm

uploading daily now I've gone from

uploading three days a week to six days

a week monday being the only day i'm not

going to be uploading so until next time

design feature today yes

Oh

Who is Elon Musk? - Duration: 7:57.

okay so today I'm going to be talking about Elon Musk

and he's always in the news really so in

this video I thought it would be

interesting just to ask who is Elon Musk

and explain little bit about him so I'm

Oh break the video into his background

then I'll talk about what he does now

and his involvement in technology and

then I'll talk about why he's been in

the news more recently okay so first of

all Elon Musk is this and billionaire

he's a tech entrepreneur and billionaire

one of the richest men in the world he

was born in South Africa and from there

he went to Canada and eventually ended

up in America and in Silicon Valley

during the dot-com boom so in the words

of 90s and early 2000s and while he was

very he established paypal which is the

company that he founded and is really

where he made a huge amount of his money

so paypal has allowed him to do lots of

other exciting innovative projects so

that was really what how he made his

fortune he's also you know always been

in the news because of his personal life

so he was married to a British actress

and they've filed for divorce a couple

of times and never gone through with us

he has triplets and twins with this

woman and he was linked to Amber Heard

after she broke up with Johnny Depp so

he's just always been involved in kind

of gossipy and items in the news as well

and he's also i suppose always been very

throughout his background been very

interested in I mean in a way kind of

almost like science fiction so he's

always believed that a human colony

could be made on Mars he believes in

some ways after the earth could be a

simulation and that were still living

and on different planets kind of like a

matrix so he some of you has really

really ride eias and is very interested

in the future of mankind okay so wasn't

he do now so he's involved in a huge

number of projects he is very

to the environment and a lot of his

projects reflect that so for instance he

owns the and technology or electronic

company called Tesla who produce these

really really expensive electronic cars

and some of them I think are also

self-driving are there they're trying to

develop self driving technology so Tesla

is his company and it is dedicated by

supposed to 2m finding means of

transport that don't rely on on fossil

fuels he's also one of the founders of

space X which is a privatized space

exploration company and he has I suppose

for a huge amount of his fortune into

the the innovation and technology at

SpaceX and he also has plans to develop

an electronic jest that would be called

the mosque electronic jesh and he has

this transport system called a Hyperloop

he's got this kind of future city plan

so he have all of these different ideas

and in technology around and more

sustainable I guess technology for

transport and living and just mankind in

general so he has been very successful

though in a loss of these companies I

think this kind of brings me on to the

final point which is why he's been in

the news so first of all he's been in

the news because Tesla although it has

had a fracture as enough development and

so like last year they didn't produce

enough cars like they were supposed to

there's been a couple of accidents with

self-driving cars but in the last couple

of days it's had an incredibly good

performance on the stock market it smell

you'd at a higher price I think than

forge so it's become the second most

valuable and car company in the United

States and it's been achieving all of

its production goals it's just about

launched a new model i think the model

tree which will be a much more

affordable price of thirty-five thousand

dollars and it's really I just you know

I suppose climbing the heights of

success and he has been lauded

throughout the industry for its success

now some people do think that it's been

overvalued and there has been lots of

criticism about the valuation Amish but

he had fought back against those critics

and said that the valuation is based on

future projection rather than past

performance so Tesla has done very very

well in addition to this just last week

the SpaceX program again something that

have had several incidents in the past

and there's been crashes and some failed

attempts the SpaceX program has also

been reaching new heights in the last

number of days so last week for the

first time ever they reused a rocket

launcher which apparently is like an

amazing innovation that you can actually

reuse some of the equipment which

previously you couldn't so that was seen

as a great achievement in the industry

and and everyone has been has been very

excited by this so Elon Musk has also

never said whether he's either

Republican or a Democrat he's really a

school somewhere in the middle but he

has been advising Donald Trump and has

met with Donald Trump and I think he

believes that you know you can do more

by helping the president rather than

criticizing him so he's also been in the

news because of his links is great

thanks to the White House another reason

he's been in the news is because he's

one of these silicon valley tech

entrepreneurs who doesn't believe that

death is an inevitability he thinks you

know that maybe debt is just another

problem to be solved so he is very

interested in immortality and developing

technology around immortality and he is

also another one of these entrepreneurs

who's bought land in New Zealand because

they're worried about

an apocalypse happening and so he he's

kind of kind of like a futurist from

that point of view and he still very

much believe in this prospect of planets

becoming maybe sources of new power for

human so phases that could be mind also

that Mars as I said could be a site for

a human colony so he really believes in

things that we may have previously

considered to be science fiction and

blush in the future and maybe won't be I

think it's you know it's important to

know about these people because it seems

like more and more these tech

entrepreneurs are getting involved in

space exploration so he's ingest base of

the Amazon and fender came out recently

and said that he was putting a huge

amount of his fortune into a space

research so I think that this in Sofia

may be the next big thing I guess I

don't know and what's written is very

interesting to watch checking on houses

past main characters and this as 10

platform or more vulnerable as you

murdered i think is immense

elections so I hope you give an

introduction to heaven thanks very much

protection video hope I see you soon

Chapter 2: Teaching About the Jewish Victims - Duration: 1:35.

The story of the Jewish victims

is at the center of our study of the Holocaust.

How shall we teach this story?

We should not see it as the murder of six million anonymous Jews,

but rather that six million times an individual Jew was murdered.

Eli Bosak was born in Krakow, Poland,

to a Jewish family that had lived in the city for generations.

He was a smart child who enjoyed mathematics.

While in the ghetto, his father Avraham

was offered the chance to hide Eli and his sister, Renya.

He couldn't bear the thought of parting from them.

By the time he steeled himself to do so it was too late.

Eli and his sister were murdered in Auschwitz.

Eli was 11 years old. Renya was only 6.

We will never be able to understand

the torment of making this impossible decision.

We will never understand the enormity of his pain

when his children were taken away.

Giving the victims a face and a name by listening to testimonies of survivors

or reading words of those who perished evokes a sense of empathy with them.

They become real people.

The empathy created allows a more meaningful discussion

as students can relate more easily to human beings than to numbers.

A Trip to Switzerland - Duration: 4:27.

Hi, everyone!

Welcome to the HK Channel.

My name is Horacio and I am the host for today!

Today, we will be talking about the first country I had ever visited, which is the one

of the most beautiful place in the universe, Switzerland!

As I had said before, my parents enjoy the nature that they think the nature can release

our pressure and make our body healthier.

They wanted to take me to the most beautiful place for my first trip.

Additionally, my parents and I went there for about two weeks, and we enjoyed it so

much that we wanted to visit there again and again.

Switzerland is a federal republic in Europe.

Bern is the capital of Switzerland, and Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland.

There are many different kinds of landforms in Switzerland, which attracted the visitors

the most.

There are even several bridges that have a long history about them.

There are also places that don't allow cars in the cities that most people use horses

as a transportation.

The sleeping lion was also a famous attraction that shows the past history of Switzerland.

There were so many foods that I haven't tried before, which made me increase my curiosity

completely.

Moreover, you wouldn't want to miss the cheese pot in Switzerland that may let you

regret for your whole life.

Heading to the Alps Mountain was my dream, it was the first time that I get to interact

with snow, and I have never seen several amazing views on the top of the mountain.

We also get up earlier to watch sunrise on different mountains and positions.

However, I always think that if I have a chance, I must thank all of those workers for building

the railroad for us and allows us to see these unbelievable sights in Switzerland.

Horn was a traditional instrument for the native, the sound was pretty low, but it sounds

wonderful.

Additionally, there are many ancient castles in Switzerland that have many historical things

inside.

Lastly, I would like emphasis that the water in Switzerland was so clean that you could

just drink the water in the faucet without boiling the water.

There also many view-trains around the countries that allowed visitors to enjoy the beauty

by riding on the trains.

In conclusion, I really enjoy traveling around the world.

I like different cultures that allow me to know more about different things.

I think I will never forget these memorable moments in my first trip.

I hope you enjoy the channel and feel free to give any commands about our channel!

Bye and see you next time.
