- All right.
So what we're going to do next is what we call a ped stop.
All right.
Dad, I'm going to have you go back inside the house.
- All right? - Sounds good.
- All right. - All right, boys.
Boys, just walk your path.
OK.
All right.
- Hey, boys. - Yeah?
Hey sir.
Can I talk to you for a second?
- Stay right there. - Yeah, sure.
- Do you have any-- - Right there.
--any weapons on you, anything you're not supposed to have?
- No. - OK, turn around for me please.
Put your hands behind your back.
Interlace your fingers.
Put you hands behind your back.
Interlace your fingers.
Spread your legs.
What're you guys doing here?
- Hold up, hold up, hold up. - Yes sir.
Hold up. Hold up.
Why you handcuffing them?
- Stay right there. - What?
No, no. That's my--that's my kids.
We're dealing with some police business.
Stay right there, sir. - I know, but that's my sons.
Sir, sir. I said stay back.
- That's my kids. - Stay back.
Why are you handcuffing my kids?
Stay back. I'll tell you in a minute.
I am back. I am back.
Don't move, all right? All right.
- I am back. - You don't move.
You don't move. Keep facing that way, all right?
We're investigating a crime.
You stand back.
- Hey, sir. - Just don't move.
Listen to my partner and relax one second, OK?
I'm relaxed.
I'll explain everything to you, all right?
I'm relaxed. I'm relaxed.
I'm wondering why you're--
I will explain everything to you.
One second please.
Spread your legs for me.
What did they do?
RJ, what did you do?
Do me a favor, look that way to your left.
- Robinson. - Don't move.
Robinson, what happened?
Follow my commands only, all right?
- I don't know. - To the left.
I can't talk to--I can't talk to my son?
Not yet.
Look right.
Right.
Don't move, all right.
Sir, your sons match the description of a suspect that's
been burglarizing the area.
The reason why I stopped them and put handcuffs on them
is for their safety and mine.
As easy as those handcuffs go on, they can come off.
So now that I know that those are your sons
and they live here, correct? - Yes, they do.
OK, I will remove those handcuffs.
OK.
I was focused on really trying to escalate
the situation just to see how the boys would react to me.
Do me a favor, when I release your hand, place it
on top of your head, OK? - Mhm.
And you don't move.
It was good to see that they stayed calm even
though I was a little irate.
OK, walk that way.
Go by your dad.
All right, you can put your hands down.
They didn't react with any sudden moves.
They didn't talk to me.
They did exactly what the officer said.
So it was good.
That's how it works.
Yeah.
And you went along again.
Even you, Robinson, when your dad was yelling for you
to answer and I told you, hey, listen to my commands,
look to the left--
I just knew you were going to say something.
[LAUGHTER]
You didn't disobey.
You followed my commands and that
is how you guys get out of your situations unscathed, OK?
Comply.
The boys did great.
I'll give them an A.
Very proud of them.
You can tell that even though it
was sterile environment that they felt they were still real.
I think-- I think it's really going to impact them well.
Big time.
No, this is fantastic fellows, seriously.
This was an education.
You know, the biggest lesson I hope the boys understand
is that if you get pulled over by the police,
just do what they say and the chances
of you getting out of that situation safely go up greatly.
