EYE ON CHINA-AUSTRALIA LOOKING TO JOIN USA,INDIA & JAPAN FOR NAVAL DRILS: TOP 5 FACTS - Duration: 7:15.
As Prime Minister Malcolm Turbull comes to India, the participation of Australia in naval
drills in the Indian Ocean Region— comprising India, the US, Japan—is likely to come up
for discussion.
The naval exercise named Malabar is conducted every year in the Bay of Bengal.
Australia had participated in the military drills in 2007, however, the former Australian
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd reportedly backed out of the exercises in 2008 due to Chinese pressure.
Originally a bilateral exercise between India and the United States, Japan became a permanent
partner in 2015.
Let us go into the details.
China's sweeping claims of sovereignty over the sea have provoked competing claimants
Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Non-claimants like USA, India, Australia & Japan want the South China Sea to remain as international
waters with freedom of navigation, whereas China want to control this major trade way
.It is a very important sea route with 5 trillion $ in trade, half of global merchant shipping
and 1/2 of world's oil shipment pass through it.
The sea also has alleged 11 billion barrels of untapped oil and 190 trillion cubic feet
of natural gas.
US has also long accused China of aggressive espionage & reverse engineering and manipulating
it currency, which has hurt US interests.
Tokyo issued a new defense white paper that identifies the "growing assertiveness"
of China as Japan's most serious challenge.
PM Abe has also reiterated his determination to use the crushing parliamentary majority
he now enjoys to remove from Japan's constitution provisions, which restrict his ability to
deploy or use military force.
In Japan, the consensus has been growing that engagement with China is starting to look
like it was a mistake.
China has not changed politically, nor has it developed grateful or friendly feelings
toward Japan.
On the contrary, it has come increasingly to look like Japan's worst nightmare – a
strong; Communist led one party state, angry and harboring revengeful sentiment toward
Tokyo.
Most worrying of all, China is now building up military assets that look increasingly
like they are pointed directly at Japan's interests.
In the last decade, China has aggressively worked to upgrade its infrastructure along
the 4057 km Indo-China border.
This has been a major concern for India.
Chinese army has even transgressed into Indian Territory on multiple instances, and there
have been several standoffs.
India and China have border dispute.
China has claimed major parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Despite the statement by a top US Navy officer that Malabar was "not directly aimed at
China", there is very little doubt about who is the target.
The exercise is conducted only about 400 KM from the contested Senkaku Islands.
Scenarios include hunting for Chinese submarines, ships and countering hostile Chinese navy.
The exercise has gained greater significance with India and the US has signed an important
agreement.
The Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) allows them to use each other's land,
air and naval bases for repair and resupply.
USA is bound by The Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security to help Japan.
For the convenience of viewers, here is a brief detail of the agreement.
The treaty was first signed in 1952, and was updated many times after that.
Since Japan was disarmed after WW2, USA through this treaty agreed to come to Japan's aid
incase, Japan was attacked by any other country.
To support that requirement, it provided for the continued presence of U.S. military bases
in Japan.
Relations with China are one of the most important aspects of Australia's foreign policy.
As an emerging great power in our region with whom Australia is developing a major economic
relationship, good relations with China will become an increasingly prominent feature of
Australia's international interests.
But maintaining good relations with China is also one of the most difficult challenges
for Australian policymakers.
The stakes are high too for Australia.
The US is Australia's greatest ally and strategic partner while China is its biggest trading partner.
Strategically, Australia is concerned about China's growing military presence and intentions
in South China Sea.
This is main reason Australia is interested in joining the Malabar exercise.
Malabar is a great exercise for all the Navies involved to understand one another's skills
and operational capabilities.
It will also give these navies an opportunity to refine and integrate communication protocols,
emergency and support procedures; and operational tactics for joint or single nation offensive
and defensive maneuvers.
In 2016, over 20 ships and 90 aircraft from India, Japan and the U.S. took part in the exercise.
The exercise currently having the 3 major naval powers in the region will get even more
significant if Australia also joins in.
This will create a strong strategic alliance and send a direct message to China.
China has been very concerned about this exercise.
It had lodged a strong protest against the inclusion of Japan and Australia.
China had even sent a communication to participant nations to ask, "who the exercise is aimed at".
It seems that in coming days, China will face more and more strategic alliances aimed against it.

Bake Helper - Blender Addon - Introduction - Duration: 7:22.
Hello everybody. This video describes a Blender addon called Bake Helper.
Bake Helper is intended to automate the baking workflow, and to save your time by creating, assigning and saving all desired image maps.
In contrast to other tools, it enables to bake a separate image map for each material. This makes it especially useful for creating content for virtual grids like Second Life or Open Simulator.
Blender itself already enables to bake textures, but the workflow is very time-consuming and requires to manually repeat lots of steps for each object and its materials.
Let me summarize, what steps you need to do when baking in Blender using the Cycles-Render.
First, in the UV Editor, you need to manually create and name an image map for each object and its materials.
Secondly, you need to assign these image maps to the corresponding materials.
Only way to do so, is to add a dedicated image node to each material in the Node Editor.
The most tricky step here is to select the image node by clicking on it. It actually disables you to use the same material for baking multiple image maps.
Also when you deselect the image node later when editing the material, the baking cannot proceed.
Now we are ready for the actual baking.
In the 3D View, select all the objects for the baking process, and finally hit the Bake button in the properties section.
Hooray!, baking is done and we can see our baked textures in the UV Editor.
As you could just see, the default baking workflow in Blender is very time consuming, especially when you need to bake textures for complex scene like a house with dozens of materials and textures.
And that was the reason, why I have decided to create an addon to help me to automate this task.
I think the most helpful feature of this addon, is that it automatically creates and assigns all required image maps for baking.
You can also choose, if to bake each material into the separate image map, or to merge all materials into a single image map and reduce the total number of output files.
However, if you are baking textures for grids like Second Life or Open Simulator, you will probably want to bake separate textures in most cases, because there is the size limit 1024 pixels in these worlds.
Now, lets try to use the Bake Helper addon for baking multiple objects.
Select all the objects intended for baking and add them to the list by the plus button.
For each object and its materials select the desired resolution. Also, you can merge all materials into a single image map.
Of course, all objects must contain a valid UV map for baking with non-overlapping polygons.
First, lets try to bake the ambient occlusion pass. When everything is configured, just hit the BAKE button.
The addon prints on the screen which object is currently being baked.
Baking takes a while depending on performance of your computer, texture resolution and number of render samples.
Hooray!, baking is finished, and the addon invokes the Blender textured viewport mode to display the result image maps in the scene.
For baking the ambient occlusion, we can also use the Blender Render engine, even when materials are made for Cycles.
Just Select the Blender Render engine in the addon panel, and set the desired options like number of samples.
Baking using this engine usually takes longer, since it can use only CPU and not graphic card like Cycles Render.
When baking is finished, the result is also displayed in the viewport.
Now lets bake the final Combined pass, which bakes materials and lighting effects into a single color texture.
Hooray!, the baking is finished, and now we are ready to use these textures in any real-time rendering engine.
We can save all the baked textures just by a single click.
And here you can see the folder with our baked textures.
Moreover, you can assign and display other kinds of textures by these dedicated buttons.
As you could see, the main goal of this addon was to automate the baking workflow by creating and assigning all the desired image maps.
