Preeclampsia is a disorder that only happens in pregnant women - it occurs after 20 weeks'

gestation, and in some cases develops up to 6 weeks after delivery.

Preeclampsia causes new-onset hypertension and proteinuria - protein in the urine, which

is a marker of kidney damage - and can also cause damage to other organs like the brain

and liver.

There can be a wide range of symptoms - for some women there may be no symptoms or only

mild ones, whereas for others, it can turn into a life-threatening illness.

If a woman with preeclampsia develops seizures, she is said to have eclampsia.

Preeclampsia tends to occur more often during a first pregnancy, in pregnancies with multiple

gestations, or in mothers 35 years or older.

Other risk factors include having hypertension, diabetes, obesity, or a family history of

preeclampsia.

Okay but why do these changes happen in preeclampsia and eclampsia?

Well, the exact cause is unclear, a key pathophysiologic feature though is the development of an abnormal

placenta.

Normally, during pregnancy, the spiral arteries dilate to 5-10 times their normal size and

develop into large uteroplacental arteries capable of delivering large quantities of

blood to the developing fetus.

In preeclampsia, these uteroplacental arteries become fibrous causing them to narrow, which

means less blood gets to the placenta.

A poorly perfused placenta can lead to intrauterine growth restriction and even fetal death in

severe cases.

At this point, the hypoperfused placenta starts releasing pro-inflammatory proteins.

These thenn get intol the mother's circulation and cause the endothelial cells that line

her blood vessels to become dysfunctional.

Endothelial cell dysfunction causes vasoconstriction - narrowing of the blood vessels - and also

affects the kidneys in a way that makes them retain more salt, both of which result in

hypertension.

When diagnosing preeclampsia, hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure of

140 mmHg or greater or diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or greater.

In severe preeclampsia, systolic blood pressure can be 160 mmHg or greater and diastolic blood

pressure can be 110 mmHg or greater.

These extreme blood pressures can lead to a hemorrhagic stroke or placental abruption,

in which the placenta detaches prematurely from the uterine wall.

There can also be local areas of vasospasm - which means that less blood might reach

certain parts of the body.

For example, reduced blood flow to the kidneys, which are particularly susceptible, can cause

glomerular damage leading to oliguria - very little urine - and proteinuria . Normally,

the glomeruli of the kidneys do a good job of preventing protein from spilling into the

urine, so proteinuria can be a sign of glomerular damage and is a classic sign of preeclampsia.

Reduced blood flow to the retina can cause blurred vision, the sensation of seeing flashing

lights, and the development of a scotoma.

A scotoma is when a small part of the visual field has slightly worse visual acuity - a

bit like having a blurry spot on an otherwise normal computer monitor.

Reduced blood flow to the liver can cause severe liver injury and swelling, which can

cause an elevation in liver enzymes and stretches out the capsule around the liver.

Stretching of the liver capsule typically causes right upper quadrant pain, or epigastric

pain, which is one of the cardinal symptoms of severe preeclampsia.

Endothelial injury also leads to the formation of lots of tiny thrombi in the microvasculature,

a process that uses up massive amounts of platelets.

Having all of these tiny blood clots in the blood is a bit like having dozens of boulders

in the middle of a fast moving river.

It becomes treacherous for red blood cells to navigate through, and before long, they

slam up against a clot and get destroyed - a process called hemolysis.

Together these make up HELLP syndrome (H = hemolysis, EL = elevated liver enzymes, LP = low platelets).

HELLP syndrome develops in about 10 to 20% of women with severe preeclampsia or eclampsia.

Finally, endothelial injury increases vascular permeability, allowing water to slip out of

blood vessels between neighboring endothelial cells and get into the tissues.

Because there's also a loss of protein from the blood due to the proteinuria, even more

fluid moves from the blood vessels into the tissues.

This causes generalized edema which is often seen in the legs, face and hands; pulmonary

edema which can cause cough and shortness of breath; and cerebral edema which can cause

headache, confusion, and seizures.

Seizures define the onset of eclampsia.

Because all of the problems of preeclampsia and eclampsia stem from placental dysfunction,

the ultimate treatment is delivery of the fetus and placenta.

The decision to induce delivery depends heavily on the gestational age of the fetus as well

as the severity of the disease and how it's affecting both maternal and fetal health.

If the onset of symptoms comes after delivery, then the goal is to manage the symptoms which

slowly subside on their own.

Additional measures are aimed at managing any end-organ damage by offering supplemental

oxygen, medication to manage seizures, and other complications like stroke or placental

abruption.

As a quick recap, preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs after 20 weeks' gestation and

up to 6 weeks following delivery.

It is defined by a new onset of hypertension and proteinuria but can affect many organs,

particularly the kidneys, eyes, liver, and brain.

Eclampsia is diagnosed when a patient with preeclampsia develops seizures.

Athleisure Is the Norm in This NYC Office | Racked - Duration: 3:00.

The style at Women's Health, it's a

fashionable mix of super high-end,

like I have with Hermès and Christian Louboutin,

and then also a lot of fast fashion

and a lot of more comfortable

clothing, so you'll work in your Zaras

and your H&Ms.

My name is Laura Frerer-Schmidt, and I am

publisher of Women's Health magazine.

My personal style, I would say, is a bit

rock 'n' roll. A bit sexy, but more feminine-masculine.

I'm Jacqueline Azria, I'm the

creative director at Women's Health.

At Women's Health, everybody has a very unique style.

My name is Lindy, I'm the marketing

creative director at Women's Health magazine.

I would describe my personal style as

tailored, simple, but classic.

My name is Jen Ator, and I'm the fitness director of

Women's Health magazine.

My personal style, it's kind of eclectic. I like it to

be slightly boho, a little bit rocker — like

I might wear something that's very girly,

but then pair it with leather leggings

or some kind of really tough boots.

Amy Keller Laird, I'm the

editor-in-chief of Women's Health

magazine.

I'd say the one thing that has changed a

lot since I've come to Women's Health is

that I wear a lot more activewear now to

the office, which I never would have done before.

I'm Maura Lynch, and I'm the beauty and

lifestyle director at Women's Health.

Today, I'm wearing a sweater from Community,

which is at Aritzia,

and a Bella Canvas tank top — pretty truthful.

Adidas leggings, and Cole Haan boots.

This is Women's Health.

Shoes from Christian Louboutin, this is H&M, my jacket is from Zara.

This is an Hermès bracelet,

then this necklace, it's a lock.

The shirt is Zara,

Siwy jeans, the blazer is Helmut Lang,

and the leather moto jacket is Saint Laurent.

The shirt is from Rome, Italy. My pants,

I bought them at Express. My shoes are

vintage Manolo Blahniks.

These are my favorite rings, it's a Brazilian rock.

Bracelet is a David Yurman.

I am wearing a top by Zara.

This is a dress by Joie, leggings from

Ilux, and also shoes from Zara.

This is Rebecca Taylor, I have some Rag & Bone boots,

and Spanx tights.

The best shopping advice that I ever received:

Really think about how that piece of

clothing is going to work into the wardrobe

that you already have, not the one that

you're planning on having.

I would say trying on stuff. I hate

trying on stuff. I used to walk into

stores and just pick stuff, and most of the time,

funny enough, when you try stuff on,

half of the time you don't even like it on you.

Wear things that make you feel confident.

The best shopping advice I got

was that you only need a few good pieces.

If you like something, buy it in multiples.

I really like athleisure. You can actually

mix it up with what you wear, and it can

be really cool.

I think that athleisure is a wonderful trend. It allows you

to feel comfortable and sexy at the same time.

I think that we're reaching a

point where people can merge activewear

with regular wear. That's a big part of my style

as well — I need to be ready to go to the

gym and get in a workout, and I need to

be ready to come to the office and sit

in a meeting with my editor-in-chief.

What is Animation Canceling? Overall Animation Canceling Discussion - Duration: 9:34.

hi I'm phoenix today we're going to be

talking about animation canceling now

first to start off let's kind of define

what animation canceling actually is so

what an animation cancel is is let's say

that you press a button and this starts

in action for instance you hit the melee

button in overwatch you're going to

perform your melee attack and once you

press the button you now start your

animation your character will do a

specific movement and then at the end of

the animation you will then move back to

your animation that you're currently in

the middle of like running or standing

still or jumping and things like that so

basically what an animation cancel is

it's when you start your animation

earned the benefit of that action and

cancel any sort of animation that

happens after that that you would

normally be locked into so common

occurrences of animation canceling games

we're going to use overwatch for a lot

of these considering that are watching

some of watch gameplay right now common

occurrence is like Genji's animation

canceling where he would be able to

throw out his stars and then he would be able

to cancel his normal auto-attack with

his melee so you would be able to

basically auto-attack and melee within

an instant of each other and earn the

damage from both of them you could then

follow this up with a dash now just to

note you cannot do this anymore

it has been changed in overwatch and no

longer can you do this same exact combo

but the idea is that you would get three

different damage dealing abilities all

within frames of each other this

animation cancel had a massive benefit

and it was a big deal and it certainly

got fixed into the ground so common

occurrences outside of that would be in

fighting games MMOs MOBA's shooters

there honestly all over normally every

single game has an animation cancel of

some sort but the animation canceling

referring to today is the one where you

take it and you exploit it and you use

it to earn more benefit than the average

player would be able to do with just

basic knowledge of the game

so current genres where you see

animation canceling a lot being abused

is fighting games such as super smash

brothers streetfighter there's a lot of

other ones such as blazblue and then we

also see it in MMOs like Blade & Soul

black desert online i'm sure there's

some in world of warcraft we see it in

MOBAs which is where i was first

introduced to animation canceling I saw

it in League of Legends and in dota and

in these games you would basically

quickly cancel the animation of your

auto attack consistently on and off on

and off on and off until you were ready

to hit a certain monster to make sure

that you got the very last hit on it and

that would earn you a lot of benefit and

canceling your animation constantly

would make it so

there's less of a delay between you

clicking and then your projectile

leaving your body and then earning the

kill shooters we see it in overwatch we

used to see in counter-strike where

people would basically shoot their

sniper rifle and cancel the animation of

pulling back the bolt action on your

sniper and you would basically swap out

of the weapon and back into the weapon

and be able to shoot faster than if you

were to just press the button to shoot

and then let it do its animation and

then shoot again in overwatch we see in

a lot of different characters Genji

Widowmaker there is the infamous

reload animation cancels that are

almost on every character with

reloadable primary weapon so how does

animation canceling positively affect

games because i mean we're talking a lot

about getting nerfed or adding such a

massive exploited benefit

how does this positively affected game

on a larger scale now this increases the

skill cap of certain characters and it

gives players this heightened sense of

character depth from mechanical

perspective it allows you to feel like

you really know your character and it

just feels good it makes you feel like

you're doing something that not

everybody can do and that's

putting power in your players' hands and

it's a good thing it is a good thing for

you to feel good about doing something

cool on a character that most people or

some people can't do anything that isn't

obvious to a new player that a maybe

veteran or just just some sort of

weekend warrior player has in their

arsenal of abilities that you know

comparatively speaking to a new person

in the game just having that one step

over them feels cool makes you feel like

you're a master of something it gives

certain games a chance at spotlights

that it wouldn't have otherwise gotten

for instance certain games might have

such big animation cancel exploits that

they make headlines on big article big

big article websites like kotaku or even

IGN things like that and this can give

games exposure that they otherwise

wouldn't have gotten sometimes having

bad things to be said about your game

can be a good thing

this also gives certain characters

essentially secret buffs and it makes

them potentially viable without them

intending to from the developers of

course let's say that the characters

underpowered but then an animation

cancel is discovered for a certain

character they are now overpowered

potentially and the hair now constantly

use and they are now viable that's

potentially something that could save a

character from just being thrown into

the ground and never really picked up a

lot of people love to see new characters

being picked up and played people love

seeing underpowered characters getting

stronger and getting better and getting

more spotlight in certain situations now

animation canceling can positively

affect games but obviously like some

previously mentioned situations it can

definitely negatively affect games as

well it could increase the skill cap of

a character and that can become daunting

to new players making them feel the need

to learn a ton of information just for a

character to be worthwhile or viable it

can be a huge turnoff for new players

making them believe that this character

is overpowered that they'll never be

able to be really good at this character

it ultimately just causes people to look

away from a character and possibly a

game as a whole if there's a lot of

animation cancels across-the-board it

can really turn somebody off from a game

from a franchise from a genre even a

massive negative if

that animation canceling can have on

games is also this situation where

gamers will find animation cancels and

it will result in certain things

becoming overpowered too strong and

people will lash out online and

specifically at developers at the people

who created the animation cancel or

discovered it rather and this causes a

lot of in the community stress and

specifically when people start lashing

at developers this creates a really

shitty relationship between everybody if

the developer can't properly communicate

with the gamers and if they can't have a

healthy relationship on hearing the

issues with the game they can't as

easily fix the issues because sometimes

there's just so much nonsense being

thrown in the air that nothing really

constructive comes of it

This helps me segue into my last point how do

you really solve the animation canceling

issue and honestly the real answer

you can't it's an unintended mechanic it

happens all the time it's up to the

players who discovered the animation

cancels or even the people who have

learned of them talk to the developers

and ensure that they have a good

relationship it's important for both of

these parties to communicate with each

other because we need to find balance

together and if we don't find balance

together we can easily see games that

just get drilled into the ground buried

beneath the mountains of other games

that get very due to problems that

developers communicating with the

playerbase and certain things never

getting fixed the right things not

getting fixed

there's just a lot of bad things that

can happen from poor communication

between the playerbase and the

developers so animation canceling all in

all really has a huge amount of effect

on a game it's an unintended mechanic we

can't really help the fact that it's in

games but the best thing that we can do

as gamers is properly communicate with

the developers the best we can wherever

it is that the developers communicate

with us whether it be on Twitter reddit

or any sort of other image board or the

official forms we have to talk with them

and communicate to them what we like and

don't like

what we think is fun what we think is

constructive and we need to make some

good come out of learning about

unintended mechanics so you go guys

those are my thoughts on animation

canceling you liked this video go ahead

and like it if you disliked it you know

what to do if your feelings are more

complicated than that or you just want

How Do You Choose a Personal Injury Attorney? - Duration: 2:19.

I am William P. Lightfoot, managing partner of Koonz McKenney Johnson DePaolis and Lightfoot.

We are plaintiff's personal injury law firm, practicing in Northern Virginia, suburban

Maryland and the District of Columbia.

We represent people who are physically hurt due to someone else's fault, someone else's

negligence.

Someone who gets hurt and then has to see a doctor for medical care or medical treatment.

They could be injured on the job, it could be car crashes, medical malpractice, products

liability, injured on bicycles, slip and falls, it doesn't matter how the person is injured,

if they're injured, have to go see a doctor, then our job is to represent them and recover

justice for them.

I like the clients, I like the people I represent, I like the thrill of going to court, the excitement

of it, the give and take, the intellectual exercise and I particularly like feeling like

I've helped people.

What we find is that people who are seriously injured, who are out of work for long periods

of time, who can't pay their bills, who can't pay their rent, who can't pay for their

children's needs, those people need assistance and many times if we don't win their lives

are really lost forever sometimes.

So it's very rewarding to feel that you've helped somebody like that in their time of

need.

People who come to us who are seriously injured, or they've had a loved one who died, particularly

someone who's a breadwinner, you know it's what we see oftentimes is a husband or a wife

who have been going to work, doing their best to care for their family, they're contributing

to raising their children, when they die, if they die, then unfortunately their relatives

are truly lost and if we are unable to recover for that family, then the family resides in

poverty for many years if not forever after that.

So it's a great responsibility, what we do and I take that responsibility very seriously.

Every day I have a prayer that I say, the prayer goes like this, I pray to God to make

me worthy of the confidence and trust that people place to me because I and others in

this firm recognize how serious the responsibility is for the people that come to us.

The Washington Post Is Pushing For A New Cold War - Duration: 4:08.

Over the New Year's weekend, The Washington Post printed a story claiming that Russia

had hacked into an electrical grid in the state of Vermont.

As it turns out, that story was completely not true.

What had happened was that the Department of Homeland Security sent out a notice to

utilities across the country letting them know about a specific malware code that had

been linked to hackers in Russia.

Now, this utility in Vermont, did find that malware code on one computer that was not

actually hooked to the electrical grid and it is a malware code that anyone could find

on the internet so it's impossible to say that it was directly related to any kind of

Russian hacking.

Nonetheless, The Washington Post ran that article claiming that Russia hacked a US electrical

grid, a story, again, that is completely false.

This is not the first time that The Washington Post in recent weeks and months has printed

something completely false trying to drum up support for some kind of US aggression

against Russia.

Furthermore, it's not just Russia that they're going after now.

It's RT America.

RT Network.

Specifically Ed Schultz, host on RT, and here's what The Washington Post is doing.

They're trying to paint RT as some sort of propaganda tool for the kremlin but they're

linking RT and RT America as one in the same, which is actually not the case.

They are two separate entities.

If you think about it, this is exactly what The Washington Post and other US media outlets

and republicans in the United States did during the war on terror to Al Jazeera.

During the Bush years, we were told by republicans and media outlets including The Washington

Post in an article from 2008, that Al Jazeera was nothing more than a tool of propaganda

for Al-Qaeda.

Again, nothing could be further from the truth and the fact is that the Washington post was

clearly just angry that Al Jazeera was able to report real news without having to go through

corporate sponsors.

The Washington Post has lost almost all of their credibility long before these Russia

stories even came out.

Another big problem that we have right now is the absurd number of media outlets, including

some progressive media outlets are claiming that Russia hacked the US election.

That is not a true statement.

When we're talking about matters of foreign policy, specifically at a time when the US

is retaliating against Russia, we can not use that kind of language.

Nobody from Russia hacked the US election.

The democratic national committee was hacked.

That is not an election.

There is no link between any hackers and vote tallies, vote totals throughout this country

from electronic voting machines.

That didn't happen.

Words matter right now, folks.

A single word is the difference between a fake news story and legitimate reporting.

The Washington Post doesn't quite understand that anymore.

Now, there was a time in the United States when The Washington Post was one of the most

revered media outlets in this country but that was decades ago and since then, that

paper has fallen into almost complete obscurity because they're not waiting to check their

sources.

They're not worried about getting things right.

They're just worried about getting the story out there first and as we saw this past weekend

with this Russian electrical grid hacking, being first isn't always a good thing.
