Hi everyone, welcome to Roosevelt University
I'm going to walk you through how to start the research process
using the Roosevelt University website. We have four great resources to start with on the website
In this video, you will learn how to find resources on the Ru library homepage for finding research information and
you will learn how to get research help from the Ru library staff
The first resource I'm going to show you is the research guides by subject
section If you navigate over the box labeled research guides on the lower right hand side of the screen
You can click on by subject
From here you can choose a subject area that best describes your favorite topic
So if you're writing a paper for a business management class, you can scroll over the management and then choose
business
These guides have been strategically
created by our librarians in order to point you towards the resources that will provide the most appropriate and effective
information for your subject area
Here you can get an idea of what kind of information you can find on the library's suggested databases
Now I will show you how to locate the A to Z list of databases on the website
From the library homepage under the search box. Click on the green databases link
Here you will find an alphabetical list of all the databases that are RU library subscribes to
Academic Search Complete is our top used research database as this description says it is a comprehensive
scholarly
multidisciplinary full-text database with more than 8500 full-text journals
When there is a specific
database you would like to access you can use the A to Z list to quickly find the one you need
For example, if you wanted to find Sage journals, you would just need to click on the s and
then scroll down until you find the Sage journals
Next I will show you how to locate journals by title
If you already know of a journal that you want to browse through in order to find articles
You can go directly to that journal with our A to Z list. On the library home page
scroll over the journals by title link that is located underneath the white search box
From this page you can browse alphabetically in order to find the right journal
or you can type the title in the search box
to find what you need
If the journal is located in multiple research databases
you will see a list of links and years that are accessible through each resource
Once you choose a resource, you will be able to browse through the issues
The last resource I'm going to show you in this video is the multi search research tool
From the home page, make sure you have the multi search feature highlighted
When you utilize this search method you will be provided with the most comprehensive coverage of the RU library's print and online
collection that relates to your subject
This includes books, articles, videos and materials that are available to you from other libraries through I-Share
If you are writing a paper for a criminal justice class, you can search for the keywords prison healthcare
Here you are provided with over
150,000 results
From here, you can narrow down your search results
with the refine your search menu on the left
You might only like to see full-text, scholarly and peer-reviewed
and you would also like to make sure it was something that was published in the last couple of years
Now the search
has yielded
3,367 results
From here, you can skim through the articles to find the ones most relevant to you
You can also edit your search by selecting
only journal articles
and playing around with the subject terms until you find exactly what you want
Those are just four of our resources to help you get started with the research process
Research is a journey. You can do it on your own or you can ask us for help
To do that use the Contact the Library information found at the bottom of the Roosevelt Library homepage
You could also set up a research appointment with a librarian
using the One-on-One Research help link
The research help can be in person or online via Zoom
Happy researching!
