Officials with key state capture evidence fear for their jobs: Themba Maseko - Duration: 3:58.

Officials with key state capture evidence fear for their jobs: Themba Maseko

STATE CAPTURE INQUIRY.

Officials with key state capture evidence fear for their jobs: Themba Maseko.

Government officials who have tangible information that could assist the commission of inquiry into state capture fear coming forward because they might be targeted.

So said former Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) CEO Themba Maseko‚ who was testifying before Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo at the commission's sitting in Parktown‚ Johannesburg‚ on Wednesday.

"I am convinced that there are a number of public servants who have had experiences with a number of individuals‚ including the Gupta family‚ but it could also be pertaining to the conduct and behaviour of their political bosses [such as] ministers‚ MECs and premiers‚" said Maseko.

Maseko is the fourth witness to come forward with evidence of how the embattled Gupta brothers allegedly used their relationship with former president Jacob Zuma to assist them in trying to "force" Maseko to redirect R600-million worth of government advertising to their then New Age newspaper‚ the name of which was later changed to Afro Voice.

Maseko said a memorandum asking for signatures in support of speedily establishing a state capture inquiry had been distributed.

It was addressed to a number of ministers - including then minister of finance Pravin Gordhan and former public service and administration minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi – as well as directors-general and heads and deputies of the country's national executive office.

All confirmed receipt of the memorandum‚ as did Zuma's office‚ Maseko claimed.

However‚ he said that some DGs had made an about-turn and refrained from signing the memorandum or coming forward to testify – this out fear of losing their jobs or for fear of reprisal.

"A number of senior government officials‚ who were still in the service‚ were complaining to some of the people who signed the memorandum about the extent to which the procurement processes in government were being undermined - and that they found themselves in a very difficult position because when procurement procedures are not followed‚ they‚ as accounting officers‚ could be held accountable for that‚" Maseko said.

According to Maseko‚ the memorandum addressed how the Gupta family had allegedly unduly influenced procurement processes and key appointments at government departments and state-owned entities.

Earlier on Wednesday‚ former African National Congress MP Vytjie Mentor concluded her testimony after she was asked to explain certain contradictions in both her written and oral statements to the Hawks about her allegations that the Gupta brothers had approached her with a Cabinet job offer.

Mentor set the record straight‚ and then complained that the Hawks wanted her to sign a statement that had inaccuracies‚ including the date and venue of the signatures on the document.

The inquiry continues on Thursday at 9.30am.

Meghan Markle Slammed for Dress That Hits Above the Knee | Heavy.com

Meghan Markle has been a part of the royal family for about three months now, but she still has her fair share of haters.

Prince Harry and his wife attended a special gala performance of the hit broadway show Hamilton on Wednesday, August 29.

Markle chose to wear a tuxedo-style black dress that hit her well above the knee.

You can see Markle's dress below; You'll notice that the photo that Kensington Palace shared didn't show Markle's full look.

This sparked outrage, with many social media users saying that Markle's look wasn't a good representation of the royal family and that the dress was simply too short.

Shortly after Kensington Palace shared the photo from the couple's night out on Instagram, several people slammed Markle and her outfit via the post's comments' section.

"When you are now representing the Royal family should not give the media any more shit negative to report.

Did she not know her wearing a dress that short would cause people to reply?? Of course she did she was an actress and loves the attention.

She needs to take lessons from Kate," wrote one Instagram user.

"[That dress] is totally too short for royalty I mean if she didn't want to accept & respect royal responsibility she shouldn't have married into the royal family," added a second.

"She thinks she can just do what she wants.

She will never truly fit in with all the baggage like [exes], her family issues, and her lies.

People never forget," a third person commented.

And the comments didn't stop there.

Markle has been slammed left and right since she started dating Prince Harry.

Sadly, the positivity of the couple's recent date night was overshadowed by the nasty comments that flooded Kensington Palace's Instagram page.

Markle and her husband were on-hand to show her support for Sentebale, a charity that helps children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.

Bafana coach Baxter confirms he was on Kaizer Chiefs' radar for a return to Naturena

Bafana coach Baxter confirms he was on Kaizer Chiefs' radar for a return to Naturena.

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has confirmed that he did receive contact from Kaizer Chiefs with a view of returning to Naturena as Amakhosi's coach.

Baxter said of the reports that Chiefs at one stage were courting him for a return: "Yes‚ I'm sure there was life in it".

The Bafana coach did not deny that there had been any contact between him and the Chiefs where he won league and cup doubles in 2013-14 and 2015-16‚ saying only that any such communication was not as "drawn out" as it was made to look in the media.

Reports in June‚ denied by the SA Football Association (Safa)‚ were that Baxter‚ at the time at home in Sweden on holiday‚ might leave Bafana for Chiefs.

Asked to clarify what the position was‚ Baxter said this week: "I left here and I went to Sweden to hopefully go and watch the World Cup from Russia‚ but at least watch it from Sweden and do all my reports for Safa.

"And during that time I was bombarded by reports and counter-reports about how interested Chiefs were to bring me there.

"Now‚ I'm not blowing my own trumpet when I say that I would imagine that every time Chiefs need a coach my name would come up there somewhere – rightly or wrongly.

"And I'm sure‚ because you get to know through different sources‚ that there was a scenario where people were hoping that that would happen.

"Does that mean that I was sitting down in negotiations with Chiefs? No it doesn't.

"And it doesn't mean that they were disturbing me every day pestering me.

"But you guys like a good story‚ so there was a bit of life in that one.

So you flogged it a little bit.

"And I'm sure that Safa were not sure how they would deal with it.

But we were in contact and I was doing my job.

"I was reporting on things like the African teams and how they were doing at the World Cup.

"So‚ yes I'm sure there was life in it.

But was it an ongoing saga as we saw in the press? No it wasn't.

"So I think very quickly we could understand that no matter what ambitions other people might have sometimes it doesn't work." Baxter was speaking as he announced his squad this week for the Saturday‚ September 8 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Durban against Libya.

A Tea House for Sarah Jessica Parker: Cuomo to Nixon | Heavy.com - Duration: 5:16.

A Tea House for Sarah Jessica Parker: Cuomo to Nixon | Heavy.com

Cynthia Nixon announced she will be challenging New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in a Democratic primary.

One of the oddest comments during the first and only debate between New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and former Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon came when Cuomo accused Nixon of asking for a favor in the form of a tea house for Sarah Jessica Parker.

Parker was Nixon's co-star on the hit television show that earned Nixon her own measure of fame as Miranda to Parker's Carrie character.

The exchange led some people on Twitter to wonder what the heck Cuomo was talking about.

You can watch video of the tea house comment here:.

What was Cuomo talking about? Jillian Jorgensen, City Hall bureau chief for the New York Daily News, explained in a tweet: "The Sarah Jessica Parker tea house thing is that SJP emailed Nixon with a complaint from the owner of tea shop Tea & Sympathy, which Nixon emailed on to the mayor's team.

Specifically, Cuomo said,"A tea house for Sarah Jessica Parker, that wasn't a favor?" Nixon: "I don't even know what you're referring to.

" Cuomo: "Well, you should read the newspapers.

" Nixon: "Alright.

" The debate took place at Hofstra University on August 29, 2018.

The debate had already taken an unusual turn before it started when an aide for Nixon alleged that cold temperatures in the debate room would be sexist.

Cuomo is said to like cold rooms, although he claimed he didn't ask for a specific temperature to be set, whereas Nixon's side wanted the room set at 76 degrees.

The tea house moment wasn't the only interesting exchange during the debate, which is expected to be the only such encounter between the two Democrats.

It also included these exchanges: "Can you stop interrupting?" Cuomo said to Nixon.

"Can you stop lying?" Nixon said to Cuomo.

She tried to paint him as a political insider, and he tried to paint her as someone too inexperienced to be governor.

But it was the tea house comment that got a lot of the social media buzz.

Twitter erupted with comments on the supposed Sarah Jessica Parker tea house.

Some people were just baffled.

"They're talking about Sarah Jessica Parker's teahouse idk what's going on," wrote one man.

"I need to know more about Sarah Jessica Parker's teahouse.

What is a teahouse.

How does one acquire and do with it? #nygovdebate," wrote another.

"I don't know or care if it's true, but I totally want to go to Sarah Jessicas Parker's tea house," wrote one woman.

"I did not have 'a tea house for Sarah Jessica Parker' on my gubernatorial debate bingo card," wrote one debate watcher on Twitter.

"Cuomo is concerned about a Tea House for Sarah Jessica Parker but not about the homeless in his state.

Or the subway system," wrote another.

You can read more about the cold temperature debate in the New York governor's race here:.
