Advice for Middle Schoolers
video because I'm going into high school
I'm gonna be a freshman this upcoming fall - which is basically in a month and I'm really sad... I've been through, like
sort of a lot in middle school
so I want to share some of my advice for you guys because I want to help you guys thrive
throughout middle school 'cause
yeah! and, yes, I have my notepad again ;) It's back! Tip número uno. Don't worry about
your grades too much, okay? You're only in middle school, like
Who cares about your grades?
Nobody. Not colleges
like maybe your parents? but like it doesn't matter whether you get like a B instead of an A in science or anything
'cause you're only in middle school; nobody cares
I mean, it's good if you get a 4.0 gpa
but
it's unnecessary
nobody cares
except for, like, honor society? idk
My second piece of advice is
even though you shouldn't care too much about your grades, you should still work hard, study hard
you know, don't slack off because in middle school you get to prepare for a high school and
you get to figure out like what study methods work best for you, and
it's like a trial
process in middle school
For example like me personally in middle school like I tried out a few different methods
of studying like I tried out like
notes, I tried out, like, reading the entire chapter, I tried out, like, flashcards and
etc, but what worked best for me is
flashcards 'cause I'm good at memorizing because I'm asian
so flashcards work best for me
I still do like use notes and like I still like read the chapter - the entire
chapter - if I have time before a test
but I mostly just use flashcards 'cause
that's what works best for me! So you should find out what works best for you
yea! okay tip number three. Get into a good mindset
So basically start thinking - well, you don't have to do this until you're like in seventh grade
or eighth grade. Like, sixth graders, don't worry about
this, okay? Get into a good mindset. Just start thinking about your future.
In seventh grade, I started thinking about health and, like, I wanted to live a healthy lifestyle.
I watched like a bunch of health videos on YouTube and
I
started chasing like a crap ton of water and
eating more vegetables.
Guess what?
Vegetables are delicious! Just get your taste buds used to them, and then
yeah. i like vegetables c:
I used to like
McDonald's... don't judge me but now
I don't remember the last time I ate McDonald's. My family and I still eat like at
a fast-food restaurant if we like need something quick and easy... and cheap
but, like, mostly we just don't eat junk food
except for, like, chips
'cause...
chips are good. And ice cream! Ice cream is really good, too!
Also, the mindset doesn't have to be about, like, health, obviously. Just start thinking about college
I started thinking about college this year. It's probably still too early to think about college, but like...
I am an overachiever
so
right now I'm just thinking about, like, what I want to major in? How am I going to
plan out my
my courses in high school
to do what I want? What extracurriculars am I going to sign up for in order to have fun and
look good
on a college application
I mean
yeah. Just plan out your life because
you and I both want to have a successful future. You don't want to be homeless and out on the streets
So don't be like that lazy person who doesn't care about anything and watches anime all day
and
number four! I'm contradicting myself :D

Don't grow up too fast. You're only in middle school. You're still a kid. Act like a kid. Be a kid.

Number five! Adding on to that
There's no need to get into a romantic relationship right now, okay?
I'm probably just saying that because I haven't been in a romantic relationship yet, but like
it's nice not having to worry about like a
partner
and so if you're watching this video you're probably like 12 or something and if you're in relationship
what are you doing? Go focus on school; don't focus on
on boys. or girls I mean, like, it's fun to have crushes but
they don't last long. like a year at max
unless you're really committed. then

Socialize! Your friends in middle school will probably most likely be your friends in high school as well
so take the time to get closer to them. If you follow my first piece of advice and
don't like stress out about your grades too much, spend time with your friends more instead of worrying about school
Go hang out with them, go facetime them, go text them, go eat shoes with them
whatever just get closer to them because
Friends are
honestly, what makes school fun, like, without friends, school would be
actual hell.
Number seven! In middle school, take the time to
explore what you like. Find what
clothing style suits you
Find what sport you're good at
Find what your hobbies and your passions are and
Try out new things! For example, in sixth grade and seventh grade, I didn't really do anything
I just went to school, went home, watched YouTube, and then went to bed
... and played violin and then in eighth grade, I joined green team, I joined honor society
I joined WEN
which is the thing where you help sixth graders get used to middle school. It was fun!
Like, my grades didn't go down because I started focusing on extracurriculars more.
My grades went up, actually... so these clubs
and activities and whatever you find out that you like to do... it's fun
and it will follow you throughout life . Throughout high school, if you decide to keep doing it in high school
maybe even college
who knows? so just find out what you're good at, find out what you like, find out
Find yourself as a person!
Number eight.
Don't worry too much about looks. You're only in middle school.
Everybody's ugly in middle school. except for some people
But I'm ugly, so if you're ugly, don't worry
I'm here too B) You don't have to wear tons of makeup and stuff. Don't ruin your face. You don't need foundation
unless you have like a lot of acne. if you have a little bit of acne like me
you don't need makeup. you're good. be natural! some of my friends have like more acne than I do
but they still don't wear makeup. they don't need makeup. they slay without makeup.

unless you really want to wear makeup. then you do you. but honestly it's unnecessary
It's not worth it to wake up at 5:00 a.m.
in the morning to do makeup for half an hour and then eat breakfast and then go to your
bus at 6.
yeha Number nine.
Enjoy middle school while it lasts. I mean, you don't have to worry about anything until high school, basically. You don't have to worry about
your looks, you don't have to worry about like romantic interest, you don't have to worry about your grades too much
just. just enjoy it, ok? as i've said before, i'm going
into high school next year and i'm planning to do lots of extracurriculars and i'm planning to take
advanced classes
and it's gonna be so fun! dies Just relax in middle school
have fun! spend time with your friends and family while you still have the time to do that...
and cherish those moments!
even if they're embarrassing moments. because embarrassing moments honestly are what makes the best memories.
Number ten!
Adding on to my previous
piece of advice, a really good way to
treasure those moments that you spend with your family and friends is to keep a journal or a diary
what's the difference? idk you don't have to write like
a page-long entry every single day like just a few sentences
every day of like what you did like during your day and like
what was really fun or amusing? what made you smile? what made you happy during
like your day
because you can look back at that like a year later
and you're going to see that - those sentences that you wrote every day
you're gonna smile, because oh
that was that was those are the good times
Every year at the end of every year
I started doing this in seventh grade um which is only like two years ago... whatever
I started like writing a
page-long letter to myself at the end of every year! well
my seventh grade language arts teacher
made us like do it at the beginning of the year and then we read that letter at the end of the year
and I was like oh mah gahd that is so cool. so at the end of seventh grade
I went home and I wrote a letter for my eighth grade self. I was like, hey!
Dear eighth grade Kathie, it's the end of the eighth
grade! you're gonna be so old!
how's life? how are your friends?

what was i saying?
yeah so I did that I wrote a letter to myself and at the end of eighth grade
which was like a few months ago, I opened up that letter and I read it, and it was so funny
you can also use this to see how your handwriting improved
over the year because oh my gosh and then I wrote
another letter to myself which I'm going to be reading in ninth grade at the end of ninth grade. im like
how's freshman year oh mah gahd
im gonna die fml hahahha also
another way to treasure your moments is to vlog! also watch my alaksallsal
Alaska Cruise vlogs! I don't know if they're already posted like I already edited half of them
I'm pretty proud of them u know :D
i'm getting more into like
cinematography

and another way to remember your moments is that like I've always kept like
a travel diary basically only when I travel do I actually write like a full-length
page and a half
journal entry every single day. for example
I went to Alaska a few weeks ago
and I wrote a page-and-a-half-long entry in my journal every single day for seven days straight
it was fun. so I write it down like every night like what did I do today?
and then when I came home, when I came back, I just typed it up
onto my laptop, so if I lose my journal, I still have my laptop or if I lose my laptop, I still have my journal
so it's not easy to lose those
memories.
Number eleven! Use your technology
wisely. Social media is great like it helps me stay in contact with my friends
It definitely helped me like become closer to my friends
But watch what you stay on the internet, ok? Number twelve!
Love your family!
Lots of tweens
or teens
these days hate their parents and stuff, but like I've always tried to show as much
appreciation and love and...
love... as I could to my parents because they've done so much for me and my sibling
and like they've worked so hard. I just like to, you know, show them that I really
appreciate what they've done and that I love them. and you should do that too, you know? Parents might be
embarrassing or strict sometimes
but they really just want the best for you.
unless they're actually mean parents... then you should like
call your counselor or something. Number thrihirhithirhihtihithirteen. Be respectful to adults
Even teachers! They might seem like they hate you and stuff
but they choose to spend time around you guys for a reason. they love kids and they love teaching
so show them a little bit of respect and like it sounds like I'm telling you what to do
but this will benefit you in
the future. they're going to like you more and they might be more lenient on you if you forget to turn in an assignment ;)
Number fourteen! Stop worrying about what other people think. I've struggled with this
a lot in the past. and I still do! I think everybody struggles with this. but like honestly
why would you care about what other people think? you won't even know your current?
classmates in ten years. like you might not even remember them, so
don't worry about what other people think. I've said this like four times
but really. do whatever the hell you want. and have fun.

Number fifteen!
Surround yourself with people who will help better you as a person.
Spend time with people who appreciate you for who you are.
Spend time with people who will study and work hard with you in school.
Spend time with people who will make you smile
and laugh when you're feeling down.
Don't spend time with people
who MAKE you feel down.
And don't spend time
with drug addicts.
