Paige & Sarah: Hi everybody! It's Wednesday.
P: So D23 was at the beginning of July, and if you don't know what D23 is, it is the
P: largest Disney fan convention. It's definitely the only one that's put on by Disney themselves.
S: Not only [do] a bunch of Disney fans go, but also a bunch of people from Disney use
S: it as an opportunity to announce new movies, new attractions.
P: This year was like… S: Like Christmas!
P: I don't want to foreshadow anything, but it was like a pot of gold.
S: But they had a lot of announcements this year.
P: A lot of announcements that pertained to Walt Disney World, which is our park. It's our home.
S: I just know that, for us, it's really exciting not only because it's our park,
S: but there are so many things that you and I have talked about over the last several
S: years, [asking] "Why is this still here? They need to update this."
S: It seems that some of those things are are being answered.
P: I'm telling you, Disney has their own version of the NSA where they just listen in on conversations.
P: So the first section that we want to talk about are things that pertain to Space.
P: What Disney has announced is, in fact, a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction!
S: At EPCOT. P: Yep, it'll be replacing Ellen's Energy Adventure,
P: which, for those who have never been to Walt Disney World and have no idea what that is,
P: it's a 45 minute ride, mostly in the dark, where Ellen Degeneres and Bill Nye tell you about Energy.
S: It was very clearly made, like, at least 20 years ago. It's like Baby Ellen.
P: And Bill Nye is a Silver Fox now, and he's definitely not on the ride.
P: The AudioAnimatronics on the ride are often broken. S: It's a really cool premise for a ride.
S: I really hope that they reuse some of the mechanics of Ellen's Energy Adventure for
S: the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. Ultimately, I'm not too disappointed that it's going away.
S: I will miss having that 45 minutes to sit down in air conditioning.
P: Well, we don't know what this new ride is gonna be like. We don't know if it's gonna
P: be 45 minutes or not. It probably won't be given that Guardians of the Galaxy is
P: geared more towards Adventure. S: We know pretty much nothing about the Guardians of the Galaxy ride, except that
S: from [what we can tell], it's not a roller coaster.
P: And that they're tying it back into EPCOT by claiming that young Peter Quill, at probably
P: like 6 or 7, before he's taken into Space by Yondu, he went to EPCOT. S: Why not?
P: So, next to Guardians of the Galaxy is, currently, an unused building.
S: It used to have all of these cool things like Innoventions used to do.
S: When we were still kids, they got rid of all of those things, and for a while, the building
S: just sat empty and was not in use. And then probably a couple of years ago - like 5 or maybe 10 years ago -
S: they started using it as a Festival center for things like the Flower and Garden festival.
P: So we're going in to Space…This…giant orange dome of a building that is not being
P: currently used, is going to be turned into Together: A Space restaurant!
P: I'm really about that, okay? S: [excited] SPACE!
S: It is a sit down place where you get to look out huge windows, and it's like you're
S: floating out over the Earth. P: The views through the windows are gonna be in Space!
S: I love Space. I love food!
P: According to one of the YouTubers that I really like, who's basically like /the/
P: Walt Disney World YouTuber, TheTimTracker, he says that this restaurant is not going
P: to be owned by Disney. It's going to be owned by a company that owns some of the other restaurants
P: in Disney Springs. So I'm really interested to see what kind of food they're gonna have, what the price
P: point is gonna be, and what the inside of the restaurant is gonna look like.
S: They didn't give us a release date for this restaurant, I don't think.
P: It's gonna be before 2021, and we'll talk about why later.
P: I really want them to put solar panels on the outside of this dome, because currently
P: it's just an orange dome. That restaurant could, possibly, be self-sufficient.
P: Keeping with EPCOT, Mission Space is currently closed right now because they're going to
P: update the ride and not only bring in better technology, but new missions!
S: Particularly, they're going to have a mission that is Soarin' in Space.
S: I'm really excited that they're making something that doesn't deliberately shake
S: you because it means that little kids, who would be really scared by that, can enjoy the ride.
P: The one thing in this category that's not going to be in EPCOT - we're not currently
P: sure where on property it's going - that we're super excited for, that I would love
P: to make a reservation for as soon as reservations go up, is this all-immersive, hand you a costume
P: at check-in, you never wanna ever leave this place, Star Wars hotel.
P: The windows open to views of Space. But are we gonna get two cantinas?
P: Are we gonna have a cantina in the hotel for guests, and then in the park as well?
P: Because it's been confirmed that we're getting a cantina in the park.
P: They're gonna have a themed bar in the hotel - you know they are. So I'm excited for Space drinks!
S: The only thing that we really wanna add about the Star Wars Land thing, besides the
S: fact that it's called Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, is that of course we knew that that's
S: what they were building when they shut down Streets of America.
S: We did not know until D23 the sheer size of Star Wars-land.
P: They're building like full-size AT-ATs. So moving on to non-space attractions!
P: In the Magic Kingdom, we will soon be getting the Shanghai Tron ride, which is super exciting!
S: Tron is honestly one of my favorite movies.
P: I don't know anything about what the Tron ride is actually about, except that you
P: ride a lightcycle, it's a rollercoaster, and it's going in Tomorrowland…apparently
P: in a new space. Behind/next to Space Mountain. S: On undeveloped land.
S: Does that one have an estimated release date? P: Before 2021.
P: Going back to EPCOT, but not talking about Space, we are finally, finally getting the
P: Ratatouille ride that they have in Paris! I have not shut up about this ride since I went to Disneyland Paris.
S: She really hasn't. P: I'm so excited for you to see this ride.
S: I'm really excited! Ratatouille is like my second favorite Pixar movie. P: Oh yeah, definitely.
S: Unlike the Frozen ride, Ratatouille unmistakably takes place in Paris.
S: It makes sense for that particular character and story to be incorporated into EPCOT because
S: Ratatouille just isn't the same if you take it out of Paris.
P: The last attraction is what is going to be closing the Great Movie Ride on August 13th.
S: Our feelings on that: [Meh gestures] Okay.
P: For those of you who don't know what the Great Movie Ride is at all, it was basically…you
P: got in this really giant car, a Cast Member would get in with you and tell you that you're
P: gonna go ride through the Movies and Hollywood and there were AudioAnimatronics of Julie
P: Andrews and Dick Van Dyke singing "Chim Chim Cheree" and
S: Singin' In the Rain. P: So what is happening with this is that they're gonna gut the ride and keep the
P: Chinese Theater facade on the outside. What's going on the inside, which I'm totally fine with,
P: is a Mickey and Minnie ride, which is the first in a Disney park…ever.
P: Goofy is conducting the train, and that's why it's unpredictable. S: Scary.
P: The whole ride is going to look like the current Mickey Mouse cartoons that are on
P: Disney Channel, which we're both big fans of.
S: Basically all that we know is that Mickey and Minnie are on it, it is taking place at
S: this location, it's not gonna be in 3D. They showed a very cool clip of some of the
S: scenery changing around you. We don't know if it's gonna be a rollercoaster, we don't know what
S: kind of ride it's gonna be. We don't know what thrill level it's gonna be.
S: I'm hoping for something kind of like Mine Train. P: Or an updated dark ride.
S: I would love to see something like that. But I would love it to be a little more thrilling.
S: They kept calling it a game changer, and I'm really quite intrigued to see what that means.
P: So Walt Disney World is getting all of these expansions and new rides and and new
P: restaurants and stuff for a reason. 2021 is the 50th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom.
P: That's why we're getting all of these cool new things!
P: And you know what? I'm cool with it. I don't even care that there's an angle.
P: The 50th Anniversary celebration, which will probably go for 18 months like the 60th [at
P: Disneyland]- S: It's gonna be awesome! P: It's gonna be lit!
P: So our final category is movies!
S: I don't even have a lot of thoughts on Black Panther because I don't think I could
S: possibly be more excited for it than I already am.
P: I kept seeing tweets about how the current edited version is, like, 4 hours long. S: I'll just watch that!
P: All of the Disney Princesses, S: Who are living,
P: They were all there, together, because Vanellope, in Wreck- what is it called?
P: Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, which is the stupidest name ever, Disney NSA.
P: [Vanellope]'s going to meet all of the Disney Princesses! General thoughts about Wreck-It Ralph 2?
P: I have no idea what it's going to be about except… S: Internet.
P: He breaks it. Apparently. S: I expect a lot of internet jokes, a lot of commentary on internet culture.
S: I'm honestly kind of excited about it because Wreck-It Ralph was a really good movie.
P: Taraji P. Henson is playing a character called Yaass! S: Isn't she the voice of the Internet? P: I think so!
S: So the next one is The Incredibles 2, which we've been waiting, what, like 15 years
P: for or something? "I did my waiting! 12 years of it! In Azkaban!"
S: [Practical as always] It has been quite a while.
P: I've seen all those memes where it's like, "I'm gonna slap your kids if they
P: get in my way on the way to see The Incredibles 2."
P: They had a whole short video where people in the real fashion world praised Edna Mode,
P: and it was fantastic. S: I wanna work for Disney's marketing team and make videos like that!
S: I wanna ask Heidi Klum to talk about the time she wore a dress by Edna Mode!
P: This is the meme-iest that Disney gets and it's so good.
P: The only concern that I have is, how are they gonna top:
Lucius Best: "Where is my super suit!?"
S: I feel like it would be fantastic if Honey [Best] was actually a superhero and, came on to screen!
P: Moving right into something that we are both super excited for, but were not before.
P: It's A Wrinkle In Time.
S: That was not a thing that I was expecting to be really engaged in, and then they showed me this teaser.
P: They were like, [sings "Sweet Dreams" by Eurthmics with the wrong lyrics] "These days are made of this."
S: [Groans in agreement.] Ava Duvernay is directing. P: "Visionary Director" Ava Duvermay!
S: Neither of us have read the book. I tried when I was younger, and I'm sorry but I just didn't find it interesting,
so when I heard that they were doing A Wrinkle In Time, I was like, "Okay. Whatever."
P: So then they released the trailer. The whole cast was there.
S: The main people in this movie that we know about so far, playing the main cast, are Chris Pine
S: Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, P: Reese Witherspoon,
S: And Zach Galifinakis. P: This whole trailer, it looks…Epic, is a word.
S: It looks fantastic and rich and engaging, P: Storm Reid is this young girl who is playing
P: the main character. S: She's saving the world, she has her natural hair.
S: I am so, so excited to see a young black girl save the world, and to have that adventure story.
P: So they did have a little panel for The Last Jedi. You know, if you've been here, that we do
P: a 20 minute video every year, responding to the things that happened in the newest Star Wars movie.
S: Because they've been coming out in December.
P: So we're going to refrain from talking about The Last Jedi on the channel until January.
S: Except that they released some Behind the Scenes footage.
P: And Carrie [Fisher] just makes me cry.
S: And the part here Oscar Isaac hugs Carrie from behind and kisses her cheek and she's like [smiles].
P: You can see on her face, she's like, "This is exactly where I wanted to be today."
S: They nearly end it with her saying something about how the
S: movie is about family, and I swear to god I cried.
P: Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were both inducted into the Disney Legends this year.
P: Bob Iger [Disney CEO] read a letter from Billie [Lourd], just saying - I'm gonna cry thinking
P: about it - they were always Disney fans, Carrie wanted to be a Disney Princess.
P: And now [choking up] she's in Star Wars [again] and a Legend.
P: [Huffs] S: We will save the tears for January. P: [sniffles] Nope. Too late.
[Both laugh] S: So yes, we are excited about The Last Jedi;
S: we have seen the posters, we have seen the Behind the Scenes footage.
P: John Boyega's ready - he's so ready for this! S: [whispers] I'm so excited!
S: And now just one last thing to talk about. It's not even a big deal.
S: I don't even know why we're talking about it.
Both: [singing the Ducktales theme] ♪Life is like a Hurricane, here in Duckberg♪
S: Ducktales, or whatever, is coming out.
Both: ♪Racecars, lazers, aero-planes, it's a Duck-blur!♪
S: Pshh. P: I think I watched, like, two episodes when I was a kid.
Both: ♪Might solve a mystery…♪
S: I don't really care that it's coming out August 12th. P: Or that it's gonna be on TV for 24 hours.
Both: ♪Or re-write history! Ducktales - a-whoo!♪
[Silence] P: We're just kidding! We are very excited for Ducktales!
S: There are lots of good reasons for me to be excited about Ducktales, but I will say
S: that it was a complete surprise! They released, like, one thing, and I was like,
S: "Oh my god, I'm into this. I'm so into this!"
S: It's probably because I love animation, and I love the animated style
S: that they've created for these new cartoons.
P: It's based on comic books - on the Ducktales comics, which is really cool.
P: Speaking of Ducktales - they had a booth where you could jump into Scrooge McDuck's
S: Money pit thing. P: Yeah, and I'm so jealous - I'm so sad
P: that I wasn't there to do that specifically! Alex Hirsch did it!
S: That money pit was better than the entirety of the expo booths at Vidcon.
P: Why wasn't that at Vidcon?! S: Oh boy. P: I'm so excited for Ducktales!
S: I'm just like, "I'm chill. I don't have any nostalgic pull."
P: And then they're like, "We're gonna pull all the stops with this one so here's
P: David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck." S: Bobby Moynihan.
S: Danny Pudi. P: Ben Schwartz. S: Kate Micucci.
P: The guy that plays Launchpad McQuack - he's on SNL and he looks like Launchpad McQuack!
S: And then, of course, our fave, Lin-Manuel Miranda, because he's real popular right now.
S: He's gonna be Gizmoduck. One of the creators of the show, during D23, was basically like, "Yeah, when I was
S: a young Latinx kid growing up, we didn't really have any Latinx superheroes, and so I'm
S: making Gizmoduck Cuban." I'm here for it!
P: Here's the thing about the old Ducktales: They all sounded like Ducks, like Donald.
P: And that could get irritating to listen to. Webby is like my new daughter. I'm so excited for Webby!
S: I know that Mrs. Beakly was not necessarily a weak female, but definitely a stereotype.
P: She was just a maid. S: Not very interesting.
P: She's going on adventures with them this time. S: Same kind of thing with Webby. She was just very flat.
P: Webby has a distinct personalty, which a lot of people have been comparing her to
P: Mabel Pines and…I get it and I don't because they're not the same.
S: There are some similarities between the two of them, but you have to understand that
S: Mabel uses her grappling hook like 3 times. Those are things that get played
S: over and over again because they're fun.
P: I'm not lying when I say that I've watched the video where the cast sings the
P: theme song probably 50 times. S: It's so much fun! P: It's SO much fun!
S: Alright, I think that about does it for our thoughts on D23 and our thoughts on a
S: lot of other things! Thank you for joining us! If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up.
S: In the comments below, let us know your favorite thing about D23, whether that was information
S: released, or just a panel, or whatever. P: If you were there, we hate you and we're jealous.
P: But not really. [Sarah laughs] P: We don't hate you, but we're jealous!
S: And subscribe to The Princess and The Scrivener for more videos on Disney, intersectional
S: feminism, pop culture critiques, and more! the Princess and I will see you soon.
