Waching daily Jun 6 2017

When I say the word TMD or TMD patients, what is your initial response when we talk about

TMD patients?

And for a lot of dentists, you get this visceral response, you get...

It's like, your stomach starts to churn, or your heart starts to pound, or you start to

get a little bit sweaty because you don't...

It's like a TMD patient in my practice, I'm not comfortable with that.

So this Study Club really is about asking you if you could be open to the possibility

that if we actually just do our normal systematic exam, our comprehensive exam...

And that if we do the exam as we go through the exam, we can allow ourselves to just not

need to know all the answers right away.

That as we go through the exam, we can start to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

And as we go through the exam and start to put the pieces of the puzzle together, we

can take some educated guesses.

They're pretty educated because you're going through your systematic exam.

And the neat thing is, it's almost freeing, is that you can be ready to be wrong, just

a little bit wrong.

Because it's the human body, right?

And so as we talk about TMD patients, that's what I'm hoping that this module is gonna

help you become more comfortable with.

Warwick councilwoman will pay fine for what she admits was 'substantial conflict of interest' - Duration: 1:50.

(HE)

NOW AT SIX --- THE

TARGET 12

INVESTIGATORS HAVE

NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN

AN ETHICS INVESTIGATION,

WE BROKE IN JANUARY.

(SN)

A LONGTIME WARWICK

CITY COUNCILWOMAN HAS

AGREED TO PAY A FINE TO

SETTLE ALLEGATIONS SHE

VIOLATED STATE LAW WITH

VOTES THAT WERE -

QUOTE- "A SUBSTANTIAL

CONFLICT OF INTEREST."

TARGET 12 INVESTIGATOR

WALT BUTEAU BREAKS

DOWN THE DETAILS

BEHIND WHAT HAPPENED

TODAY.

In January Donna Travis's

attorney

told us he'd be surprised if

these two

ethics complaints made it past

the

initial stages.

Now, the Warwick Democrat has

settled with the ethics

commission,

and agreed to pay a fine.

Travis will pay a 1200 dollar

fine for

discussing and voting on city

grants

and a lease for JONAH

Inc...while

she was both on the council and

an

officer for the Oakland beach

non-

profit.

She actually sponsored the

resolution for the lease...voted

on

it...and signed the document as

President of JONAH.

Now, Travis has signed the

settlement document that called

her

involvement in the grant and

lease

process...."a substantial

conflict of

interest" that violated state

law.

Travis also admitted not

disclosing

her involvement with JONAH on

her

ethics commission financial

statement from 2015, when she

wrote "none" under a question

about

any organizations she was

involved

with at the time..

Whilte the investigation found

violations for the grants, lease

and

non-disclosure, the document

states

Travis did not facilitate using

city

resources to maintain the

building

and grounds that JONAH has

leased

from the city since 1980.

Travis has not responded to

requests for comment from Target

12....but her attorney said

while

she's admitting technical

violations,

she should also be seen as a

great

public servant who volunteers

her

time to help others.

Travis's 2016 financial

statement

that was filed in November,

lists 11

non-profits that she's

affiliated with

and two others that involve her

husband.

Working Together For Patients: Adrienne's Story | Bristol-Myers Squibb - Duration: 2:54.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

The youngest of four children.

First in my family to go to college.

A kid that came from New York City Public Housing and was able to go to college.

on a scholarship and also then made it to Law School on an almost full scholarship.

There was never a question in my family about whether or not I was going to

become a lawyer.

My name is Adrienne and this is my story.

It took my mother, my father and one of my nephews before he reached 21.

I would definitely say that their passing changed me.

It showed me what I was made of in a sense

and I carry that with me to this day.

I joined BMS in 2013.

In my role as an attorney for the company I had received a letter that had been

written to us by the widow of a patient that had participated in one of our clinical trials

Her husband was a cancer patient.

And I reached out to her.

Because I was able to empathize with her and relate to her as a daughter relating

to a wife about this disease.

And what transpired from that experience is something that candidly-

And I was able to let her know that

I was sorry for her loss but that the work that we do at BMS is very personal,

not just for me but for many of our colleagues

And many of us have tasted when the disease

Takes the victory, how painful that can be.

I wanted her to know, that it mattered.

That her story mattered.

That her husband's experience mattered.

What I would say to families that have suffered loss where the disease has won.

I would say to you on behalf of a number of my colleagues we understand.

Many of us have suffered that loss as well.

And that is what drives many of us.

One of the other things that I greatly appreciate about working for this company

is the recognition that our patients come from everywhere.

They are black, white, hispanic, male, female, young, old.

Working Together For Patients: Brenda's Story | Bristol-Myers Squibb - Duration: 3:18.

I grew up in Rhode Island

I've lived here all my life.

My husband and I met at work.

For me anyways it was love at first sight.

We hit it right off and the rest is history, 10 years later.

My name is Brenda and this is my story.

My husband Ed and I love to ride our motorcycles on the weekends.

And I love covered bridges.

So we went out to see a covered bridge

And I notice walking to the bridge

And I thought I had a cold or maybe a little bit of bronchitis

And a few days later I wasn't feeling any better

Probably about four to five days later I still was not feeling well so I went back to the clinic.

She was very very distraught

And said Ed you need to come meet me at the hospital something is very very wrong.

What happened next was I shut down.

I couldn't face the fact that I had cancer

I was so afraid

You know at the time, you know I was upset, I was in shock, I was in disbelief

At that point but I did know that I needed to be strong for my wife.

I did several rounds of chemo.

I had a long discussion with my oncologist and she explained to me that if I did not

do chemo I had one to three months to live

I couldn't deal with it.

I didn't want to face the fact that this was going to be my life moving forward.

It was days and days of calling doctors and scheduling appointments and actually just

trying to figure out what you were going to do with your life.

Once I started the new treatment my life changed

I don't think words can describe enjoying your family, enjoying the memories that you're

creating with your family.

It's priceless.

The first time I got back on my motorcycle is indescribable.

I just relished being on my motorcycle.

It was the best feeling in the world.

I saw a little more glimmer in her eye, more of a positive outlook.

Our relationship is stronger.

We continue to make memories because we don't

know that there will be a tomorrow.

I'm confident that I'm going to be here to make a lot of milestones.

Working Together For Patients: Kena's Story | Bristol-Myers Squibb - Duration: 3:01.

So I grew up in New York City.

And that's where I met my husband.

He always was throughout his life.

My name is Kena and this is my story.

We got married and had a full and rich happy life.

Two young children, move to New Jersey for work, house.

I love to run and he liked to bike ride actually.

And it was just one of those things that we loved to do together.

He used to actually come up behind me and scare me, which I hate.

And you know our children were absolutely the center of our life.

And everything changed, everything stopped

Yeah I had to really try to reflect and do whatever I could to help him.

Six weeks later he was not able to walk.

We ended up trying a trial.

That seemed to be okay.

It was much more palatable than chemotherapy and

I'll just never forget it.

And we went to this institution and they basically told us he had weeks to live.

Weeks, if we were lucky months.

And they recommended hospice.

And as I said his health was returning day by day.

We planned a wedding in our house the following day.

And he was able to, you know, participate.

We had many more moments after that.

Where he was there for milestones, birthdays.

So in his mind—

Not even, I don't even think the last minute.

He was still determined to beat.

He'd even say we're going to beat this.

I started at BMS just about the time we started dating.

You know I always say that work to me is like my marriage

It's a part of my life.

It is who I am.

When I walk in the building, and I know this sounds goofy, and people say it all the time.

But, these people I really care about.

And care about me, and it's a part of who I am.

People have done extraordinary things for me.

And I'm so grateful.

I was very lucky.

You know I can't believe actually when I think back that he married me, just because

he was an incredible person.

I feel in many ways, that he is sitting on my shoulder and encouraging me.

To be happy, be thoughtful, to keep moving forward.

I want to be somewhere where I'm doing good work, and I'm helping people.

Surrounded by people I care about.

That's what happens everyday.
