Waching daily Jun 2 2017

Hey everybody! Today we are making the

Almond Reishi Refresh Smoothie Recipe.

Welcome to our video series! I'm Jenna

and I'm the founder of GreenBlender and

GreenBlender is a smoothie delivery

service. We send all the pre-portioned

ingredients and superfoods to make

amazing smoothies at home. And every day

we make one of those smoothies right

here with you. We like to talk about an

ingredient or two and really get in a

deep dive, so you know what's going on.

And I bet you're wondering what the

heck is reishi, or reishi? We -we're not sure

how to pronounce it -but what is this

thing? So, here it is. It's a mushroom, it's

originally from. It was originally grown

in China, Japan, and Korea, but now it is

grown worldwide. It likes hard woods and

subtropical or tropical environments.

Its been used for thousands of years in

Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine

says it's an adaptogen and normalizing

herb-like substance. So, basically it

helps bring your body back into

equilibrium. It really helps with the

negative effects of stress, which is

inflammation or low energy, damaged blood

vessels. So, it's been used for thousands

of years in Chinese medicine, but now

there's actually dozens of medical

studies that have suggested that it does

in fact help with inflammation, fatigue,

infections, sleep, food allergies...it's

really a great thing to add into your

diet. We are going to be using reishi

mushroom powder, but you can also find

dried reishi like this and you can boil

it in water and make a tea or a broth.

And it has a little bit of a bitter

flavor, but kind of like an earthy tone. I

mean, it's a mushroom. So it has like a

mushroomy flavor to it. We're not

going to be able to taste it in our

smoothie today, but definitely check out

some more reishi information. You can buy

them in your health food stores, or

online. They are a great way to kind of

incorporate into your daily life and

let's get started with this smoothie! So,

besides reishi mushroom, what else is in

here? We're going to be using a half a

head of baby bok choy, four ounces of grapes,

one pear, three tablespoons of almonds,

and, of course, some water and ice. So

let's throw in everything and get

blending! This is very kind of like East

Asian recipe here, with this baby bok

choy, which is also hailing from Asia.

We're going to throw in 3 tbsp almonds,

which are going to give us some healthy fats.

You can soak those almonds

overnight and it'll -they will suck up

all the water and plump up and make it a

lot easier to blend in the morning. So, we

don't have time for that here. I never

have the foresight. I'm going to throw in my pear.

Now, if you notice, I don't really core

the pear. There's nothing really in the

middle of a pear and I like to get as

much volume as I can out of my fruits

and vegetables. So, I cut it right in half

and throw the whole thing in. This is not a

super ripe pear, so it's not going to be

sweet and the sugar content is not

going to be as much. But, if you leave

this on the counter and it turns yellow

and even has some brown spots

that's totally, perfectly normal. And you

can -it'll just be sweeter, creamier and

easier to blend. Alright, we throw in my

reishi, yeah it really doesn't smell

like much, a little bit earthy, but we

won't be able to tell its in there, but

you'll be able to get all the benefits

from it. Alright, I'm going to use my

baby bok choy.

Grown up bok choy, I don't think they -I

don't think you call it "grown up bok choy,"

but a fully-grown bok choy is a little

bit spicy and so, I like using baby bok

choy because it is way more mild and it

doesn't taste -it really doesn't add much

taste. So, see if you just cut off the

bottom, everything kind of comes apart.

There could be some dirt in between here

some kind of a layered thing, so just

quickly give that a rinse,

just to get some of the dirt off but you

don't get all the dirt off, it's not the

end of the world. All the food comes from

the ground anyway. We're going to throw it in here. This is going

to make a lot of smoothie; I can tell!

Throw in this, and blend it up!

Here it is, the moment of truth. Let's

give this a try. Wow, this made a lot

four cups!

Here it is, Cheers!

Mmm, sweet! Pears and grapes are very sweet fruits,

but really, that's the only thing I'm

tasting in here. Creamy from the almonds

-this is a high-energy, immune boosting

smoothie. If you've ever tried reishi

before, please let me know what you think

of it and any of your favorite recipes

with reishi mushroom! Until tomorrow, I

will see you then. Cheers!

Fidget Spinners and More: Is a Fidget Good or Bad? - Duration: 2:17.

From Silly Putty to the Koosh ball, there are all sorts of products you can use as fidgets.

But it can be confusing to know the difference between a fidget and a toy, and they are different.

A fidget is a self-regulation tool.

It works by promoting movement and sensory input.

Fidgets can be great for kids with attention, focus, and sensory processing issues.

A toy, on the other hand, is something that a child plays with for entertainment.

The confusion comes in because the same item can be both a fidget and a toy.

It depends on the child's needs and how he uses the item.

The key difference is whether the child is using the fidget and learning at the same time.

If he's fidgeting but paying attention, feeling calm and learning, then the item is an effective tool.

But if he's fidgeting and not paying attention, or is focused elsewhere, the item has become a toy.

A great example is the fidget spinner.

This item meets so many different sensory needs: color, movement, vibration.

For some kids, like those with Inattentive Type ADHD, the fidget spinner can help a lot

with focus.

But for other kids, it may just be a toy to play with.

Or worse, for a child who is hyperactive, it can end up being an overstimulating distraction.

Even classic products like stress balls and Silly Putty can be great fidgets.

They may help kids who focus better when their hands are busy pulling or squeezing things

that are flexible.

But if your child is throwing Silly Putty at his friends, it's safe to say it's a toy.

Every child reacts to different fidgets in his own way.

Try out a few and look for one that works for your child's needs.

Set rules and boundaries around the use of the fidget.

Have limits on when your child is allowed to use it and how.

Make sure to tell your child that this is a tool for helping him stay focused, not a

toy to play with.

That might help prevent it from becoming a distraction.
