What is the gospel? - Duration: 3:22.

Sproul: When I would teach in the doctor of ministry program — and Sinclair has had the

same experience, I'm sure — when we'd have the clergy in there, I would ask them

to define the gospel.

And if I got 10 percent of them to give an adequate answer to it, I would be happy.

Because that word's thrown around so much it's died the death of a thousand qualifications.

In New Testament terms the gospel is the proclamation of the person and work of Jesus Christ plus

how the benefits of that work can be appropriated to us by faith and by faith alone.

So, the gospel has a narrow definition: it's the message about Jesus.

Now, there are other good tidings; the kingdom of God, all of that.

But specifically if you look at what we call the kerygma in the New Testament, the apostolic

proclamation of the gospel, it focuses on Christ, who He is, what He did and how we

receive His benefits.

So if I tell you that if you come to Jesus you can get meaning for your life or you can

have peace in your soul or you — God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.

That may be true — that's not the gospel.

Don't confuse that with the gospel.

The gospel's about Jesus.

Ferguson: You know, if a student asked me that question I would say, well, Paul has

told us in the first few verses of 1 Corinthians, 15.

He says, "These are the things that are of first importance."

And he states facts with an interpretation.

Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, third day rose again.

And that is, I think, probably in the New Testament, at least in Paul's letters, the

simplest foundation.

But, as we, as we grow as Christians — well, here is Paul saying in Romans twice, I want

to explain my gospel to you, and there he's taking that statement, "Christ died for

our sins according to the Scriptures, third day rose again," and he's saying let me

now unpack more and more of the significance of that.

So that from one point of view, you can sit down with a child and say this is the gospel.

And from another point of view, since Christ Himself person and work — as Calvin says

Christ clothed in the gospel, is the gospel.

You know — we are ransacking the Scriptures all the time to discover the fullness of that.

But as to the — you know, as to the foundation of it, you know, the answer is really pretty

simple and clearly stated in Scripture.

And as R.C.'s saying, kind of different from what people often say.

Conor McGregor's long awaited showdown with Khabib Nurmagodev could be set to go ahead in October 2018.

McGregor's lawyer, Graham Kenny, posted on his Instagram story that he is headed for Las Vegas in October 2018, although the exact date is obscured, according to MMA writer Chisanga Malata.

As things stand, UFC 229 is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on October 6 at the T-Mobile Arena.

The promotion is returning to New York City and Madison Square Garden on November 3 for UFC 230.

In December 8, the fighting takes place in Toronto at the Scotiabank Arena before returning to Las Vegas for the promotion's final event on December 29 with UFC 232.

That would mean at the time of writing, McGregor's long-awaited return to MMA could be nine weeks away.

McGregor hasn't fought in the UFC since his November 2016 victory over Eddie Alvarez.

McGregor Said He'd Prefer for the Fight to Take Place in Madison Square Garden, Rather Than Vegas.

McGregor told TMZ on August 1 that the fight was "very close" to being agreed.

Although he did imply that he would like the fight take place in New York City, not Las Vegas.

McGregor said that he thought the fight was going to happen in Sin City rather than the Big Apple.

McGregor that he "believed" the fight would take place in 2018.

Nurmagomedov Says He Won't Be Low Balled for His Payout.

Nurmagomedov recently told fans at an event, via MMA Junkie, that he knows his value within the UFC and the McGregor fight can't go ahead without him.

The Russian says, "I'm not going to give him a chance to make money and fight with me.

Without me, this fight is impossible.

If they want to pay for me a couple hundred thousand and make this fight, make money for UFC and make money for Conor, for a couple hundred thousand, no way, brother.

Conor is 2-2 in his last four fights.

He doesn't deserve a title shot.

But we know that's the money fight.".

Nurmagomedov Says His Plan for the Fight Is to Make McGregor Tired.

When asked about his strategy for the fight, the Russian brawler said, "My plan is make him flat, make him tired and make him give up.

This is my plan.

I don't want to finish him early.

I want to make him pay for all things that happen.

I can't believe we finally going to fight.

We have to sign (the contract).

We have to know where we're going to fight.

He don't have conditioning.

He don't have wrestling.

He don't have anything.

He have one very good left hand.

I'm going to cut this angle and try to take him down 100 times.

He think if Khabib fight like I did against Iaquinta, maybe he can beat me.

But look at my 10 (UFC) fights.

They're all different.".

In April 2018, Nurmagomedov defeated Al Laquinta at UFC 223 at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, New York, to claim the UFC lightweight title that McGregor had been stripped of due to inactivity.

McGregor Will Have to Fit the Fight Around His Community Service & Anger Management Classes.

While in McGregor's camp, things appear to be rosy again after the Dublin-born fighter agreed to a plea deal that includes five days of community service and some anger-management classes.

McGregor was facing charges relating to an attack he perpetrated on a bus carrying a group of UFC fighters prior to UFC 223.

UFC chief Dana White said at the time that the attack was "the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company.".

Is it important that a church subscribe to a confession? Why or why not? - Duration: 1:48.

Ferguson: Anything smaller than that or theoretically larger will not give you the stability that

a solid confession of faith will do.

For example, you might say the Bible is our confession.

But that wouldn't help us.

All that tells us is that the contents of this book constitute our confession.

The real question is tell me what the contents of this book are and what a really good confession

of faith is, is a summary of the theology of the confession written, of course, in a

particular a lot of historical context but with a view to the people of God in every

place and in every generation.

So that, for example, I've been, you know, in intervarsity in the United Kingdom, 10-point

confession of faith was for me a terrific nurturing organization.

But the value of that 10-point confession of faith pales into insignificance with something

like the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Westminster Confession of Faith will do you as the one book you have on a deserted island

will do you if you're an elder, if you're a pastor, as a foundation for virtually everything

you encounter in the life of the Christian church and principles for applying the gospel

to situations that the Westminster Divines never contemplated would exist.
