Joe Gomez declares himself "100 percent" fit on return for Liverpool pre-season
Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez believes he is now "100 percent" fit, as he joined Jurgen Klopp's squad at Melwood for pre-season training.
The 20-year-old has spent much of the past two seasons out of first-team action, having suffered an ACL injury in 2015, playing just 270 minutes under Klopp so far.
He was part of the small group to return to Melwood on Wednesday morning, however, having opted out of duty with the England U21s at this summer's European Championship in Poland.
And speaking to LFCTV on the training pitch, Gomez provided an update on his fitness and settling back in at West Derby.
"Obviously you have bits when you're anxious about the running, because it's going to be difficult," he said after the squad's initial tests. "But it's all part of it and you look forward to getting the balls out and going again.
"[Fitness is] the main thing. You don't want to take it for granted because you enjoy your job and you enjoy being here, but it's just nice to be on the pitch again.
I feel good, I feel fit, sharp, I'm in a good place mentally and physically. "I just see it as a fresh start now to go again and attack this season.
Asked whether he felt he had a head-start on some of his team-mates having spent the summer undergoing an individual fitness regime, Gomez took a humble approach.
"[There have been] a lot of tough periods, but I'm just grateful to be here and happy to go again, and it's nice to be at a place like this to do it," he continued.
"Everyone's going to have done their work, and everyone has programmes, but we have to do the testing today and then push on from there. "But it's just about getting stronger as the pre-season progresses.
Gomez is likely to take a focal role for Klopp in the early stages of the summer, with only Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva and Mamadou Sakho available as the German's other centre-back options.
Sakho, who spent the first half of last season deployed alongside Gomez for the Liverpool U23s, is unlikely to feature.
With the Reds taking on Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on July 12, and then Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on July 14, Gomez should be given his chance to impress.
Klopp is yet to decide whether to loan the defender out this summer, but if he can prove his vitality in those early games, he could earn a regular role on Merseyside.

Howdy and welcome to episode 64 of Tip For Tip where you ask your marketing
question in exchange for a tip in your industry my name is Ranger Aaron my name
is Christian and today we have Robert from velofix.
Hi my question is around we
have a brand new concept where mobile bike shops we want to know how do you
grow awareness with this new concept?
Three of the most cost effective ways to
build awareness about a product that nobody knows is to educate to entertain
and deliver the wow so with that I know Ranger Aaron over here has a bunch of
stuff that he wants to talk about but I think he's going to say more online
stuff so I would go into events like any big event or any fitness events make
sure you you're there your present and your educating entertaining and delivering
the "wow" and another big thing for me online was to find influencers go find
those people who already involved in the community around here that are big
bicycle guys or girls, triathlon people, runners; those kind of people who are
already in the industry yeah exactly and you know hook up with them and try to
figure out some way that they can advertise you and vice versa and you
have some online advertising stuff well I don't have to necessarily be
advertising so the first thing you want to do is go and find where that market
that kind of what Christian said earlier find those influencers but I would go target
people like Richardson Bike Mart we already know they're huge in the area
the part of people who like Richardson Bike Mart, create a promo video about
people using their phone and doing the whole process of what you guys do and
then put that out there to the masses and then you can create an audience of
people who already just know about your video and they're going to find out and
be curious about it so when you do those offline events or influencers there to
kind of know who you are. Right, so try to hit them on multiple multiple ways
multiple avenues. Right, offline and online. All right
hopefully that was good let's hear your tip for us.
My tip for you guys is
that over time bicycles they get sweat, dust, grime and dirt in them
keeping them cleaned and out of the moving parts will make them last longer
and run better and be cheaper to maintain over time a good testimonial I
have is that a customer a couple weeks ago had all his stem bolts were corroded
due to sweat in there he hadn't had his bicycle tuned up in eighteen months we
actually had to pull all those bolts out and replace them if we had kept his bike
clean every three or four months it would have saved some money down the
long run.
Prevention is key.
Again, I think that was
is that like a might drop or something but we had a guy on the show
couple weeks ago talking about maintenance of your car and that makes
sense top of mind for me because I drop a call or I drive a car every day but if I
got a bike I think you just as long as the tires are aired up and I can drive
it it's good so that's a great tip. Yes. Robert thank you for being on our show

Reps Will Address Calls For Restructuring, Gbajabiamila Says
The Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila (Lagos-APC), says the house will address the calls for the restructuring of the country. Gbajabiamila made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
The lawmaker, who frowned at the approach adopted by some groups to press home their demands, said the unity and stability of the country could not be compromised.
"This is a matter the house will address very soon and we are all concerned and we cannot bury our heads in the sand (and pretend nothing is going on around us) like the proverbial ostrich (would do).
"The National Assembly as an institution has a role to play on the issue of whether you want to call it restructuring or reengineering – however you want to describe it. "And very soon national assembly will come up with a position.
"We are discussing it, we are talking with stakeholders behind the scenes and it will be tabled at some point hopefully before we go for another break,'' Gbajabiamila said.
Uchechukwu Nam-Obi (Rivers-PDP) has condemned the idea of secession that any part of the country might be considering. According to him, a house divided against itself cannot stand.
He, however, called for true federalism, saying that equity and justice were the panacea to the agitation in various quarters.
Federalism is the mixed or compound mode of government, combining a general government (the central or 'federal' government) with regional governments (provincial, state, cantonal, territorial or other sub-unit governments) in a single political system.
Its distinctive feature, exemplified in the founding example of modern federalism of the United States of America under the Constitution of 1787, is a relationship of parity between the two levels of government established.
It can thus be defined as a form of government in which there is a division of powers between two levels of government of equal status. Nigerian federalism began in 1954 under the tutelage of the British colonial authorities.
The founding fathers of the country opted for federalism because of their belief that federal states have the intrinsic structural and institutional capacity to accommodate diversity.
The multifaceted differences that exist among the peoples of Nigeria, as well as the gargantuan size of the country, made the choice of federalism a necessity.
However, the problems inherent in amalgamating myriad different peoples and regions continue to provoke debate and controversy, which are often directed at the country's federal system. "The federating units must be happy and the happiness must start with justice, happiness and equity.
"Anybody who thinks Nigeria is a contraption will have to think again.
"We have had talks, we have had talk shows and all of that, about the implementation because these things will keep coming up again and again if we do not address them and we need to address them within the ambit of the law.
"We don't have to run away from restructuring, but we have to understand what it really means. "Restructuring is the way to go for Nigeria.
"What we want is to live in such a way that we have respect for one another and in such a way that there is no domination by one group.
"We need to have mutual respect and we need to sit down and say this is a Nigeria we need to bequeath to our children,'' the lawmaker said. (NAN). Femi Gbajabiamila is the Leader of House of Representatives, Abuja.
