Waching daily Jul 31 2017

The more members in my caucus, there's 34 of us.

If 20 members are saying, "You'd better no lay a hand on those disability services."

It won't happen.

If me and two others are like fighting for it, like, just bring on the bulldozer, we're

dead.

Because this shouldn't be a partisan thing.

But it is a partisan world.

And, so, if you don't know any Republicans in the senate, you better meet at least one,

because they are in charge.

And, when the Democrats are in charge and you know only Republicans, I have bad news

for you.

What Is Chiropractic - Duration: 15:10.

what is chiropractic there's a lot of confusion out there as far as what

chiropractic actually is and what chiropractic is not so we're going to go

over three main concepts or ideas that define chiropractic and how chiropractic

can help you and your health as well as the health and life of your family now

when we get down to chiropractic we first have to recognize that the body is

intelligent but the body has this inborn wisdom within that when we cut our skin

it heals when we break a bone it heals we eat food it's digests that food

without us even thinking about it our heart is beating our lungs are breathing

our body is carrying out millions of functions every single day yet we don't

have to think about it so that proves right there that there's an innate

intelligence within the body and the body is trying to survive it will do

whatever it can to get by and adapt to the environment so that is the first

concept that we're talking about this is the foundation or the basic premise of

chiropractic and that is number one we have this innate intelligence

but where does this intelligence reside where does it live within the body so

that means we have to look at what controls every single function in the

body very simply that's our brain right so we have our brain that needs to be

able to send signals to our body so every single cell tissue and organ in

our body needs to be in communication with our brain in order to function and

the better that connection the better our body functions and the higher the

level of our health so the way that our brain communicates with our body is

through our nervous system more specifically our central nervous system

so the extension of the brain is the spinal cord which is protected by our

spine and then you have 31 pairs of nerves that come out and hook up and

wire to every single organ and muscle in your body and so what happens is there

needs to be a continuous communication that's going on between brain and body

and body and brain and so you have communication coming down to the body

now that body needs to be able to send a signal back up to the brain telling the

brain the exact state in which those cells are in and that needs to keep

happening over and over again so this is health this is what controls all

function so this is our health how we function

and ultimately this is life so it's how well we adapt to our environment through

our nervous system that we really need to be looking at when looking at our

health so this is first and foremost looking at the nervous system now once

we understand that and establish that fact and then we recognize that our

central nervous system our spinal cord and the nerve roots are protected by our

spine we now have to look at the health of the spine because what happens is if

our spine is twisted shifted or misaligned out of its normal position

that can cause pressure irritation inflammation impingement and tension on

the spinal cord and nerves and so when we have a spinal misalignment so when

one or more bones of the spine is misaligned or not moving well causing

that interference on the nerves and chiropractic this is what we call a

subluxation another way to look at this this is a block it's a block in

communication from the brain to the body so there's no possible time that when

the spine is misaligned putting pressure on that nerve that you can get 100% of

those messages the way they should be to those cells and back again so this is

the first area that we need to be looking at when it comes to our health

because really this is the foundation of health and so this is the thing that

really separates us from every other provider whether it's medical providers

or other natural healthcare providers as we are looking to identify this

subluxation okay so this is the misalignment this is the thing that we

look for now when we look at that how do we identify these subluxations well there's

a lot of different ways and a lot of different methods that chiropractors use

some of the more common ones in the exam are looking

at posture how someone is holding themselves that can be an indication of

spinal health however that doesn't give all of the information about someone's

spinal health another thing is looking at how the body moves the spine is meant

to move through certain ranges of motion and if your stiff tight restricted and

locked up that's an indication that you have poor movement patterns in the spine

and you likely have a subluxation another thing that we're trained to do

is evaluate the spine through palpation or a palpation exam where we feel the

spine we feel for those misalignments this is where we feel for asymmetry

maybe the muscles in the spine are tighter than the others if it's more

acute you might feel inflammation around the area a lot of times it can be tender

and sore when we put pressure there on the spine but that doesn't have to be

the case you can have these subluxations and not even know they're there not even

feel them which then leads us to what I feel is the best way to evaluate the

spine which is through getting pictures looking at x-rays literally in

black-and-white getting objective information on what's happening with the

spine and the spinal alignment so now it comes down to understanding well what is

normal what is ideal so we need to start with that and so when we look at the

spine normal alignment from the front it should be straight up and down but from

the side we have this curve system that's set up this is the strongest

position for the spine to be in and it's also the ideal position for the spine to

be in order for that spinal cord and those nerve roots to be able to

communicate with the rest of the body so what happens when the spine gets twisted

shifted and misaligned in there now causes pressure on those nerves so that's

that subluxation causing interference or poor communication in this nervous

system affecting this pathway here which is ultimately your health so now once we

identify these misalignments on x-ray we can now implement chiropractic care to

correct the spine to the optimal level so that you can now get function back in

the nervous system okay so that's what chiropractors do we identify this

subluxation and now we provide the chiropractic adjustment

or chiropractic care to correct those subluxations to correct those

misalignments to get the spine back into a healthier position not

necessarily just to get someone to feel better and get them out of pain because

that's actually just a positive side effect of correcting the spine

but it's to actually get the nervous system to function better to express a

higher level of health and this is where chiropractic can help with so many other

issues from digestive problems it can help people lose weight it can help

people focus better sleep better so many different aspects of health where people

don't traditionally think of chiropractic and it's because we're

adjusting the spine exactly where you need it when you need it to address the

subluxations which are really just a block in communication from brain to body

okay so what what is chiropractic not right so there are a lot of different

adjunctive procedures that we can implement to help with chiropractic care

or help manage pain so they're not necessarily chiropractic but they're

chiropractic-like so for example massage therapy massage therapy can be great in

alleviating pain getting blood flow to the soft tissue and to the muscles and

can actually help with your chiropractic care to remove some of the soft tissue

restrictions however sometimes we find that it doesn't correct the problem and

sometimes it can even mask the issue because it gets you feeling better for a

little while as the condition of the spine those subluxations get worse so

for example if this is a side view of your spine and

you're meant to have this curve in the neck like that but your x-rays and your

alignment looks like that these muscles back here under are under

a lot of stress they're being tensioned they are being pulled tight like a rubber

band it's affecting those discs the spinal cord of those nerves coming out

now a lot of people feel tightness and and restriction in these muscles back

here and so the tendency is to want to stretch that and massage them but we

just rub these muscles here that are actually trying to support the head and

pull the head back if we actually relax those muscles what happens to the head

it goes further you're actually taking away that support the reason why those

muscles are tight is because it's actually trying to prevent further

buckling forward of the spine it wants to bring the head back into position so

that's what we do with corrective care we want to try and work on getting that

head and neck back into a better position to alleviate the stress in the

muscles to take the stress load off so that's really important to understand

again the massage can help with getting the soft tissue healthier with blood

flow and help facilitate the adjustments but it's not necessarily always

correcting the problem it's the same thing with exercise and rehabilitation and

stretches so if your alignment is like that and you're doing a lot of stretches

it can actually make you worse because you're not getting back into the proper

anatomical position and you may be loading the discs causing more harm than

good what we need to do is work on correcting that problem

again say this is your alignment you can ice it you can eat it you can rub it you

can stretch it that's not going to correct that problem we need to get that

head back into a better position well let's also say the look at the

traditional ways that most people handle these problems they'll typically have

pain or wait until pain comes about they might get localized pain headaches or

maybe even pain going down through the arms because those nerves are now or the

sensory portion of those nerves are now being affected and so if they go to

their doctor or they you know go to a pharmacy and they get over-the-counter

medications there's no medication that will ever correct this problem you know

no injections no pain relievers no muscle relaxers that will ever correct

this problem if anything it may just make the

person feel better but mask the issue as it continues to get worse over time so it's

really important to correct this as quickly as possible through corrective

care chiropractic now other things that are not chiropractic

but maybe chiropractic-like would be nutrition most people have an

inflammatory diet they're not feeding themselves the foods that they need to

help support their tissues our bodies are regenerating themselves every single

day we're developing new cells and we do that through the foods that we eat so

that the foods that we assimilate into our body which is really through our

nervous system allowing that digestive function to take place so we need to eat

better foods to support that so now that's allowing the body to heal itself

but it's not chiropractic it's not looking at subluxations it's not looking

at doing those chiropractic adjustments to restore that alignment which then

restore that connection between brain and body they may be great so again

nutrition supplements massage rehab all great things to help the body function

better but we need to look at the appropriateness and actually look at the

root cause of these issues now there's no surgery that's ever going to fix that

and actually with the more you ignore these problems the more you try to mask

them the more likely you are to head down this path of surgery which has been

proven to be less successful than most people actually realize and so more

times than not that person ends up back in the same amount of pain if not more

they're also dependent on medications and

moving towards a second third and maybe fourth surgery so they still have pain

and disability after the fact so again really important that we get to the root

of the issue understand chiropractic and how it can help you and your health the

health of your family the health of your friends really important to understand

this because then you're getting at the most out of your care you're going to

understand why we're doing the things that we do we're going to understand why it

might take time to correct the spine especially if it's been there for a long

period of time now I hope that you found all this information interesting I hope

it made sense to you because this really is a common-sense approach I would

encourage you to check out some of our pre and post x-rays so before and after

care you can actually see where those misalignments are and how we got them to

correction resolution of symptoms and get them healthier moving them away from

drugs and surgery at a higher quality of life if you found this interesting and

informative please share it out with your friends and your family

Earth Overshoot Day 2017 is on August 2 - Duration: 3:36.

Hi folks, Alex here. Have you heard of the Ecological Footprint and Earth Overshoot Day?

Our Ecological Footprint is how much we demand from nature.

Currently, humanity is using the equivalent of 1.7 planets.

Every year Global Footprint Network calculates Earth Overshoot Day.

It marks the date when humanity's demand on nature

exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.

In 2000, Earth Overshoot Day fell in late September,

and in 2017, it falls on August 2nd.

You can think about this as a bank account:

for the first seven months and two days in 2017, we lived on our regular salary,

after that we started chipping into our savings and racking up credit card debt.

Hmmm, seems like there's something wrong with that math.

The Ecological Footprint measures how much land and water area

we need to produce the resources we use,

things like food, land for settlements, timber, seafood, and to absorb the wastes

and carbon dioxide we generate.

Our biocapacity is the amount of biologically productive areas

such as forests, fishing grounds, crop and grazing areas,

that are available to provide the resources we use and to absorb our waste.

We can compare footprint and biocapacity to see if we are well balanced or not.

Why do we care about humanity's Ecological Footprint?

The costs of ecological overspending are evident every day in the form of deforestation, drought,

biodiversity loss and the build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Ecological overspending also can put nations at more risk.

Without sufficient resources, it is hard to operate an economy,

or we have to import more which has costs as well.

Carbon emissions from fossil fuel use are a big part of today's footprint.

Today, humanity's carbon footprint makes up 60% of the world's total Ecological Footprint.

Individuals can measure their own Ecological Footprint

with Global Footprint Network's new calculator.

Mine is 3.5 global hectares. In fact, you can even calculate the date

of your own Overshoot Day, the day when the world would go into

ecological overshoot if everyone on the planet lived like you.

If your overshoot date falls before August 2nd,

that means your Ecological Footprint is larger than the world average.

You can learn more about sustainability solutions

by joining the Earth Overshoot Day #movethedate campaign.

Make pledges to take actions to move back the date of Earth's Overshoot Day

and share pledges and the calculator with your friends and family.

If we can move the date of Overshoot Day 4.5 days per year,

we will be living sustainably on our one planet Earth by 2050.
