Hello and welcome to this new King Productions video! Today we will be

discussing the most economical method of transportation. To do this we will take a

hypothetical field trip from Washington DC to New York City. If you are excited

for this video, don't forget to like comment and subscribe.

With that, on to the video. There are four main methods that we're going to be

using for transport in this hypothetical, and those are the bus, the car, the plane,

and the train. We will be going from Washington DC to New York City which the

distance is about 200 miles, and then we are going to figure out which method is the

most economically efficient for one person. To do that will give it an

efficiency score which is based on economical efficiency, not actual speed

efficiency. Efficiency based on the cost basically. The formula is as follows: time

in minutes divided by the price or cost in US dollars. The highest score wins!

First up on the list is the bus. The provider of the transport will be the

MegaBus. To complete this 204 mile journey from Union Station in DC to 7th

Avenue in New York City, it will cost $35. It will take approximately 4 hours and

15 minutes to complete this journey or about 255 minutes. So now we will figure

out the efficiency score of the bus. 255 divided by 35 is 7.3. Next on the list is

the car. For reference will drive a Ford Escape 2017 from Ronald Reagan National

Airport in DC to JFK International Airport in New York.

The distance between them is 234 miles and will take 4 hours and 28 minutes or

268 minutes by car. The fuel efficiency of the car is about 24 miles a gallon

and the average cost of gas is $2.49 a gallon, so we'll round it up to 10 gallons.

The average cost per mile is about 16 cents assuming a 200 thousand mile

lifetime of the car. So the cost of driving with $24.90 for gas and $37.44 to pay

off the car, and the total cost is about $62.34.

And so to figure out the efficiency score: 268 divided by 62.34 is 4.3. Next up we have the plane. On American Airlines

as of July 7, 2017, the cheapest flight was $108. The flight time is one

hour and 37 minutes or 97 minutes. The efficiency score of the plane is 97

divided by 8 which is 0.9. Lastly we have the train from Amtrak. On July 7th, 2017

the journey from DC to New York cost $69. The travel time was three hours and 25

minutes or 205 minutes. So the train's efficiency score is 205 divided by 69

which is about 3.0. Now for the ranking in fourth place, with a score of 0.9, we

have the plane. Coming in at third, with a score of 3.0, the train. And then second

place, with a score of 4.3, is the car. So for the most economical method of

transport, that is the bus. Thank you for watching this King Productions video! I

hope you enjoyed, if you did enjoy please don't forget to like, comment, subscribe,
