(music) Hello I'm Adrienne Paul.
Welcome to Live Life Forward.
From corporations to
individuals with grassroots efforts more
of us are donating our time money or
other resources all for the better good
and that's good news.
Let's hope we can
inspire you today to find a way to help.
We're starting the show with a casino
and hospitality leader that's investing
in communities across the country.
With a close eye on our aging
population.
Smart move?
You bet.
Our special correspondent
Megan Telles is in Las Vegas with the
story of how Caesars Entertainment is
helping others to Live Life Forward.
There's no debate Caesars Entertainment
has an impressive portfolio with Las
Vegas as its base that operates 50 hotel
and/or casino properties in 13 U.S. states
and six countries.
The names are familiar
Caesars Palace, Flamingo, Harrah' s, just to
name a few the list of properties
seemingly goes on and on.
We're talking
nearly 70,000 employees worldwide.
But away from the glitz and glamour
and the allure of slot machines table
games and entertainment, the company goes
all in with its corporate
responsibility efforts under the umbrella of
the Caesars Foundation.
The private foundation funded by resorts
owned or operated by the Caesars group,
focuses on the aging population.
Its mission to help
older individuals live longer, healthier,
more fulfilling lives.
Jan Jones
Blackhurst is a longtime political and
business leader who was also one of the
most popular mayor's in Las Vegas
history.
She's a huge advocate for
important social issues especially those
impacting our aging population.
Today in her role with Caesars
Entertainment she's also a major force behind
the company's moved towards
connecting with the communities in which they
operate.
So why has Caesars Entertainment decided
to make our aging population priority
for its philanthropic goals?
Some people really don't realize that over
fifteen percent of our entire population
is 75 and older and that number is
expected to double by 2060 because people
are living longer.
One report says the number of
Americans ages 65 and older is projected
to more than double from 46 million
today to over 98 million by 2060 and Jan Jones Blackhurst
says that creates even
more of an urgent need to help our aging
population.
Often our seniors are
forgotten group and we saw an opportunity where we could put
together programs that energize their
lives, enrich their lives, extend their
lives and make their lives more
fulfilling and it was an opportunity we just
didn't want to pass up.
Casting a wide net since
2002 the Caesars foundation has donated
more than 70 million dollars to local
nonprofits in the communities or they
operate.
The organization does this with
the help of many of its 58,000 employees
in those communities who participate in
a company-wide citizenship strategy
called, Hero Program.
Over forty percent
of employees participate in those
programs each year, with the goal of
strengthening the social, economic,
educational and cultural life of these
communities.
Along with promoting a more
sustainable world.
The hero initiative
very important.
It's because Ceasers Entertainment
it's wonderful that we can
give money and resource but we believe a
really important part of the community
engagement and employee engagement is
getting our employees involved in giving
back it's part of our code of commitment.
That we believe that we have an obligation to our communities,
to our employees, to our customers and
to the environment, to give back to do
good things.
This spirit of philanthropy is
embedded in our culture.
Perhaps the biggest benefactor of Caesars
spirit of philanthropy is Meals on Wheels
America.
The Caesars Foundation is one of the
largest corporate sponsors of that
organization.
Meals on Wheels delivers
meals to seniors who are either housebound, maybe have no other
opportunity to get out of their home so
having the opportunity to support Meals
on Wheels we purchased over 59 vans to
make sure that under our control no
senior have to go hungry.
How much
monetarily has Caesars Foundation
provided for Meals on Wheels?
Over 5 million dollars.
We'd see it as an
opportunity that never ends.
And Meals on Wheels America President and CEO
Ellie Hollander can't give enough
praise for the Caesars Foundation.
it's a wonderful
partnership I think what makes it
special is that we share similar missions.
Caesars Foundation is really
committed to focusing on ending senior
hunger and isolation throughout America
that's exactly what meals on wheels
America is about too.
We have two
organizations that are catering if you
will, I put in quotes to an older
population an aging population and we
also understand the power of volunteerism.
And along with challenges
of living longer, economic and food
security and housing come specialized
health care issues.
Such as caring for
the aging brain.
More than 5 million
Americans are living with Alzheimer's by
2050 the number of people ages 65 and
older with Alzheimer's disease may
nearly tripled.
And that is one of the
main reasons why Caesars has made the
aging brain a big priority.
Donating four hundred thousand dollars to
launch the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo
Center for Brain health right here in Las
Vegas.
Caesars is underwriting the healthy
brain initiative.
What people forget is
that because of science our bodies are
out living our brains.
So finding what
you can do with nutrition, with engagement, with exercise with
exercising your mind to make sure that your
brain lives as long as your body is
probably one of the most important things
that we can educate seniors about today.
The Lou Ruvo Center for Brain health has
identified 6 pillars for brain health and
the center has built a website and an app
where you can test your lifestyle choices
to see if their brain healthy.
It also provides
tips on how you can improve your health.
You know this collaboration with Caesars
has been so fantastic for us we're using
it all through not only the Caesars
organization but also the Cleveland
Clinic organization.
We believe that
there is a very substantial chance of
slowing the progression of Alzheimer's
disease with these same maneuvers that
avoid Alzheimer's disease or at least
reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease
in a healthy population.
We believe
whether its Second Wind Range, Meals on
Wheels, Lou Ruvo, we make partnerships
that go far into the future.
We're not a one in and out, we're a
committed partner and we're going to stay with you
as you look for ways to improve the
life of seniors and do good things in
all of the communities we serve.
