Movie Roles That Were Too Mature For Child Actors - Duration: 11:11.

Making a movie isn't child's play — even for a child actor.

Throughout Hollywood history, kids in the industry have been called upon to act in harrowing

roles that push the limits of their abilities, and according to some critics, the boundaries

of good taste.

Here are some of the most famous examples of underage actors in mature roles.

Dakota Fanning, Hounddog

In 2007, 12 year-old Fanning shocked critics and viewing audiences alike by taking the

role of the neglected, abused Lewellen in this coming-of-age drama — which includes

a scene in which her character is taken.

Though the violent act is strictly implied with shots of Fanning's face and hands, the

film was subject to intense backlash from viewers, critics, and activist groups who

felt that the young actress shouldn't have been allowed to join the production.

Fanning responded to the criticism by pushing back, saying, "It's a movie and it's called

acting.

[...] I wanted to do the film because I thought it might help one person that has happened

to and help them overcome adversity in their lives."

Unfortunately, Fanning's hopes of reaching abuse survivors were effectively undermined

by the controversy, which killed the film's buzz.

Hounddog only earned $131,000 against its $3 million budget after a limited release.

Natalie Portman, The Professional

Seventeen years before she danced her way to an Oscar win, Portman made her big-screen

debut in this 1993 thriller as Mathilda, a little girl whose family is taken by a

corrupt DEA agent.

When she takes refuge with a neighbor — who happens to be a hitman — he becomes her

mentor in all things vengeance, a relationship tinged by an uneasy chemistry between the

two.

At twelve years old, Portman was the exact same age as the character she was playing

— and watching her smoke, shoot, and even hold a gun to her own head made for a shocking

spectacle, albeit one that proved she was a star who could handle the most challenging

roles out there.

"One shot, not bad.

Huh?"

Kirsten Dunst, Interview with the Vampire

This list wouldn't be complete without this chilling performance by Dunst, in one of her

very first feature film roles.

In Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, Dunst's character Claudia was only five years old

when she was turned into a vampire — but even for Hollywood, that would have been pushing

it.

Instead, the role went to the eleven year-old actress, who went all-out to capture the anger,

violence, and near-insanity of an adult woman who's trapped for eternity in the body of

a little girl.

As disturbing as it was to see Dunst tackle the challenging material, she did do an amazing

job, earning a Golden Globe nomination and a permanent spot on the A-list for her performance.

Christian Bale, Empire of the Sun

Long before he became famous for American Psycho, The Machinist, or The Dark Knight

trilogy, Christian Bale won critical acclaim for playing the role of Jim in the 1987 Steven

Spielberg war film Empire of the Sun.

The movie is essentially a coming-of-age drama set during Japan's occupation of China during

World War II, and Bale was just thirteen when he took on the challenging role of a boy who

goes from living a comfortable life with his family in Shanghai to growing up behind the

barbed wire of a Japanese internment camp.

Spielberg doesn't pull any punches with Empire of the Sun, and despite being just a child

himself, Bale delivers an emotional and commanding performance as a boy faced with the horrors

of war.

Macaulay Culkin, The Good Son

Evil kids have been a staple of thriller and horror movies over the years, but that didn't

stop audiences from being alarmed by the sight of little Kevin McCallister from Home Alone

playing this cold-blooded, pint-sized psychopath in The Good Son.

There's no supernatural element driving Henry's penchant for mayhem.

He's just plain bad.

When his cousin Mark, played by Elijah Wood, comes to visit Henry's family during winter

vacation, things turn decidedly dark.

It's hard to decide what's more disturbing — watching a 12-year-old try to take everyone

that crosses him…

"Don't f--- with me"

...or trying to pretend that it wasn't hilarious to watch this same little kid perpetrate savage

acts of violence against two bumbling criminals in a John Hughes Christmas comedy just three

years earlier.

"Ah"

Because of the obvious Home Alone parallels, The Good Son wasn't really scary enough to

make anyone scream… except maybe Culkin's parents, who had to watch Macaulay very convincingly

attempt to murder his real-life little sister Quinn in scenes like this one.

Jodie Foster, Taxi Driver

Foster stirred up quite a controversy when she appeared as child walker Iris in Martin

Scorsese's 1976 classic Taxi Driver.

"You talkin to me?"

While not the central figure of the film, Iris still plays an important part when her

path crosses with the troubled Travis Bickle, played by Robert De Niro — and Foster was

just twelve when she played the role.

For that reason, Scorsese took precautions: his young star was subjected to psych evaluations

to make sure she could handle the job, and her older sister Connie was used as a stand-in

for suggestive scenes.

Olivia Hussey and Claire Danes, Romeo & Juliet

Shakespeare's famous play centers on a pair of star-crossed teenage lovers — but it's

also full of sex, violence, and ending.

That means that casting actual teenagers in the lead roles has historically raised some

eyebrows.

First came Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 adaptation, in which actress Olivia Hussey was only 15,

and her Romeo, Leonard Whiting, was 17.

Thirty years later, director Baz Luhrmann went with an older Romeo in the form of Leonardo

DiCaprio, who was 21 at the time.

But Claire Danes, who played Juliet, was just 16 — which made her two years older than

her character, but in some folks' opinions, still much too young to be playing a scene

like this onscreen.

Jacob Reynolds, Gummo

Not many entries on this list can top 1997's experimental dystopian art film Gummo when

it comes to making audiences squirm.

Written and directed by Harmony Korine, Gummo chronicles the lives of several residents

of Xenia, Ohio, following the effects of a devastating tornado.

The movie comprises an interconnected series of scenes that offer a glimpse into depravity,

demoralization, and the depths of poverty — with a linchpin performance by thirteen

year-old Jacob Reynolds as Solomon, a kid whose hobbies include taking cats, huffing

glue, and paying a developmentally disabled girl to have relations with him.

Most critics panned Gummo for its pervasive graphic content, but it was lauded by a few

filmmakers, including famed director Werner Herzog —who particularly liked this scene

featuring Solomon chowing down on junk food in a bathtub.

Sue Lyon and Dominique Swain, Lolita

The premise of Vladimir Nabokov's classic novel about a middle-aged man's obsession

with an adolescent girl makes it tough to adapt for the screen — especially when it

comes to casting the title character.

But that hasn't stopped directors from trying.

In 1962, Stanley Kubrick did a more oblique take on the material, with James Mason as

Humbert Humbert and Sue Lyon as Lolita.

At fourteen, Lyon was two years older than her character, and Kubrick was careful to

skirt the content of Nabokov's novel.

"Have you told her anything about us?"

"No, have you?"

But the film and Lyon's role in it still proved controversial.

And this is one topic that hasn't become less of a hot potato with the passage of time:

when director Adrian Lyne made his own Lolita more than thirty years later, with 15-year-old

Dominique Swain in the title role, the movie was forced to premiere on cable when it couldn't

find an American distributor — and critics in England even tried to get the film banned.

The entire cast of Kids

This film centers on the lives of several teenagers — and their lives — during

the height of the AIDS epidemic, and it doesn't shy away from showing teenagers in some seriously

disturbing situations.

The characters in Kids engage in a lot of risky behaviors, from doing drugs to having

unprotected with folks, and the cast was made up entirely of teenagers,

which made for plenty of controversy when the film premiered with an NC-17 rating.

All these years later, it's still a polarizing work of art.

Brooke Shields, Pretty Baby and The Blue Lagoon

As a girl, actress Brooke Shields appeared in two different movies that placed her front-and-center

in the debate about children and on-screen stuff.

At age 12, she starred in Pretty Baby as a child prostitute living with her mother in

a New Orleans brothel at the turn of the 20th century.

The film — and Shields' in it — was criticized by many, and the movie was even

banned in two Canadian provinces.

"Well you certainly did it, didn't you?"

However, the backlash didn't put the actress off controversial material; just two years

later, Shields appeared in The Blue Lagoon as a shipwrecked girl growing up on an island

with only her cousin, played Christopher Atkins, for company.

As they reach puberty, they eventually fall in love, and even have a child — a plot

point which raised eyebrows, as did several scenes involving the fourteen year-old

Shields.

Linda Blair, The Exorcist

Widely recognized as one of the greatest horror movies of the 20th century, The Exorcist was

also extremely controversial, with famed critic Roger Ebert even suggesting it deserved an

"X" rating instead of the "R" it was given by the MPAA — even though he loved it.

That's partly because of its horrifying subject matter, but the presence of an actual thirteen

year-old girl in the role of the possessed Regan MacNeil was also considered problematic.

Linda Blair's performance was central to some of the most disturbing, disgusting, obscene,

and vulgar sequences in the film, although she pushed back against rumors that being

in the movie had psychologically scarred her.

She explained: "A lot of untruthful stories were made up about me being mentally disturbed

by the movie.

I never was because I never bought into the whole Devil thing."

Instead, it was the physical demands of The Exorcist that had a prolonged impact; Blair

fractured her spine while filming this levitation scene, an injury that would later develop

into scoliosis and cause the actress ongoing health problems well into adulthood.

Tatum O'Neal, Paper Moon

This 1973 comedy-drama is a lot more tame than some of the other entries on this list,

but it definitely has its moments — like this one, where its nine year-old star casually

enjoys a cigarette before bedtime.

Tatum O'Neal and real-life father, Ryan O'Neal, play characters named Addie and Mose, a pair

of unlikely partners in crime on a cross-country road trip.

Throughout the film, we watch the absolutely tiny Tatum smoke, drink, and con people out

of their money like an old pro.

And when Mose starts to neglect Addie in favor of an "exotic dancer" named Trixie, played

by Madeline Kahn, the jealous girl even devises her own con to get Trixie dumped.

The movie might have been more controversial if Tatum hadn't been so talented in the role;

her performance earned widespread acclaim, and she ultimately won an Academy Award for

the part, making her the youngest competitive Oscar winner in history.

Chloe Moretz: Kick-Ass

At the age of 11, Moretz landed her most controversial role: vigilante superhero Hit-Girl in the

2010 movie Kick-Ass.

Compared to most little girls — and also to most grown men and women — Hit-Girl is

a hardened and nihilistic figure, punctuating her frequent murders with obscenity-laden

one-liners.

Kick-Ass met with backlash for its violence and language, with many critics especially

horrified by Moretz's character, and it received a well-deserved "R" rating from the MPAA...

which meant that its most hardcore tween-aged hero wasn't able to watch herself drop f-bombs

in Kick-Ass without adult supervision.

"Ohhhhkay, geez!"

Bellum.io, Battleboats.io, Creatur.io // Fighting for Freedom // IO Montage #2 - Duration: 36:12.

Hey Guys!

Welcome to another IO montage!

I started out by playing Bellum.io.

I was the only one in the server at first

but spawn order doesn't matter, as when you spawn later, you get more resources at the beggining.

Basically, you need to click the button to get military power, then recruit soldiers with the MP

These soldiers then produce MP for you

Right now I'm trying to get a squad

After you start earning enough MP, you can start taking over land

Unfortunately, no one else has spawned yet.

So I decided that I would quit if no one else spawned

This game reminds me of minecraft (by the end of the game my finger was about to fall off)

I started taking over land

You can also upgrade your defenses from soldier to tank to MLRS

A few miutes later, GAMA spawned

Since he was the only other player, I was determined to destroy him

As you see, I already have tanks

I also captured a second star, which lets you get more soldiers, tanks, etc.

Another player, Netherlands, spawned

Went to check him/her out

I really hate this attack cooldown

I wanted to capture another star

Hello spawned

Netherlands offered me an alliance, and I accepted

Sorry I know I look like an idiot not knowing what to click but my recording software was working there, so I couldn't see anything

I was first in the server, and I was determined to get kills

Then, I noticed that Hello was closer to me

So I went for him/her

I got another star

I was approaching the frontline and I didn't have the max amount of upgrades

So I dug into defensive positions

I spawned a few rockets, while the max he had were tanks

BTW, new games are coming soon

It's going to be WW2 themed, with War Thunder, World of Warships and Bomber Crew.

I went in for the attack and tried to flank him/her

He/she was upgrading most of the defenses to rockets

He/she was also going for me

I was still trying to get max airfields

The key when attacking is to upgrade your troops immediately, so your enemy can't take the territory back as easily

He took some of my territory

I decided to destroy some of his more upgraded territories so he/she would be wasting MP

I was looking to see if Netherlands was doing anything

I upgraded my territory to a double rocket

Netherlands started attacking Hello

And we eventually took him out

I'm trying to flank him again

I captured another star and again didn't have the max upgrades

Netherlands was a beast at taking territory

Hello quit

At this point Firkalka started attacking from the north

And Netherlands let me have Hello's stars

Unfortunately, I couldn't get both while defending Firkalka

I then shifted my attention to Firkalka

and Netherlands offered me help

Big shoutout to Netherlands for being an awesome teammate!

Firkalka just doesn't understand

Oh ya and BTW some of you are probably going to be like how do you know that's his name

It looks like a bunch of characters

I speak Russian

Netherlands finally came and helped me destroy Firkalka

Firkalka was still fighting back

Firkalka gave up on this star and started building up it's defenses on the other star

I told Netherlands to say hi to YouTube

Firkalka also quit

The match ended

I was in first with netherlands second

One last big shoutout to Netherlands

Next, I decided to play BattleBoats.io

I'm going to speed through the tutorial

I have never seen these powerups before, so I decided to try them out

So the objective was to destroy as many enemy ships as possible

I got destroyed by an artillery

I became a carrier

It sends out planes to bomb ships

Getting a few kills

I accidentally changed back into a destroyer

My team won and I was second on the team

This match was about halfway done already

My team lost

I spawned and was the only one on my team

I destroyed the only guy on the other team and was alone on the server, so I decided to see how much I could upgrade

Tried to see what would happen if I went to the enemy base

Wooooooooooooooooow

I quit the server

I spawned again, and I was the only one

I didn't want to play like that

So I decided to play Creatur.io

I decided the first evolution should be sprinting

Your goal in this game is to bite other animal's backs

And in this game, teaming is EXTREMELY deadly

I tried the lunge ability

It's really hard being a small guy since everyone else can one-time you

In this game, you just have to get lucky and grow big, after that, you're unstoppable

This is my lucky run

For those of you who won the lottery today,

Luck is only important in the beggining

The rest is skill

Our next evolution is going to be...

A lot of people are getting lucky bites off of me

This is the last evolution

Becoming a tiger means you are really strong

NOOOOOOOOO

Tips for best Formula 1 experience - US Grand Prix Edition - Duration: 10:46.

hey guys I'm back at DC on a work trip and I figured that while I'm in this

luxurious hotel on this super modern looking couch figured I'll talk about

something that I haven't mentioned before on October 21st through 24th I

actually went to Austin Texas to attend the u.s. Grand Prix actually as I was

researching and preparing to attend Formula One Grand Prix I didn't see

that much content that would explain you what the experience is like and what are

the things you should consider and I wanted to share my experience and I

think it's gonna be applicable to a lot of Grand Prix's around the world because

Formula one runs them in a very similar fashion let's get straight to it

item number one you want to make sure you get the actual tickets to the

Formula one before you take care of everything else because believe it or

not they do sell out pretty fast. My advice to all of you who are actually

not that experienced at Formula One don't go crazy with the tickets it's a

very unique experience and I would say if you're attending for the first time you

just want to get a taste of it do the general admission general admission will

allow you to walk around the circuit without the assigned seats and soak in

the spirit and the experience of the festivity which is the

Formula One Grand Prix is now as for those who are more experienced at Formula One

and consider themselves true fans I would say you do want to make sure you

get nice seats the best part of the experience when it came to our tickets

was the fact that we were sitting at the main grandstands at the start/finish

line and we were actually facing the podium so we didn't have to run out to

the track as they were preparing to award the winners of the Grand Prix if

you're very passionate about the sport and if you are ready to commit north of

300 US dollars per ticket do your research

I'll try to link some of the useful websites below but the primary purpose

of your research should be figuring out where your seats are allocated so looking

at seat maps for this particular circuit and making sure you maybe even look up

some of the videos to see what the view will be like let's move on to the next

lesson

now item number 2 on your list should be figuring out the dates you do have a

little bit of overlap with a prior conversation about buying the tickets

when you're figuring out the dates because each Formula one weekend

consists of three days there's a free practice day there is a qualification

day and there's an actual race day the race day always happens on Sunday we can

pick all three days and buy the tickets for all three days of the race because

there'll be a lot of things to do the racetrack usually has a lot of

entertainment sometimes they have free concerts like in Austin they had Justin

Timberlake which was included where the tickets just make sure you check local

event because I think from one race to the other then type of activities varies

so you want to double check but in Austin it was actually pretty cool but

because we had a kid we were not necessarily able to attend all three

days imagine for the fact you pick up to date what's important now yes if it's

your first time take one day because they come for the race day and your trip

then should be consisting of however many days you want to pad before the

actual race so whether you want to arrive on Saturday

Friday Thursday it's really up to you but for those of you who are true

enthusiasts of sport I would say stick around and come for free practice day

which is Friday or qualification which is Saturday the autograph sessions

alone if they host them at your Grand Prix I think are worth if you are into

the sport and you think you want to make the most of it come in and attend Friday

Saturday and go enjoy the race on Sunday let's go talk now about what do you need

to consider once you settle on dates

you have the dates now whether you are an amateur who just want to explore

the event for the first time or if you're a real enthusiast of sport and

you're attending every single day at least now you know what the days are next

step the balance is now between the hotel and the flights because you know

the days and trust me all the local hotel vendors know what those dates are

as well so you really want to make sure you start thinking about the lodging and

the airfare in advance when it comes to picking the hotel or airfare nuh the

advice I don't think differs that much between sports fanatics or people who

are just tagging along or wanted to check out the event for the first time

you just want to make sure you plan way in advance it's very hard for me to give

you an advice because it really depends on which dates you pick and once you pick

the dates and you know you're gonna go you bought the tickets just commit and

get the airfare and definitely make sure you take care of the hotel check out the

Airbnb check out different hotels in the air don't be afraid to book a hotel a

little bit further out of the city because at the end of day like in case

of Austin Texas the circuit is actually 25 minutes outside of the city and we

pick the hotel which was about 35 minutes outside of the city we were

actually much closer to the race circuit than the city center and it played into

the price of the hotel plus what we did we actually just rented the car

unless it is a city circuit like Singapore Monaco Baku I would strongly

advise to actually rent a car because usually those racetracks are located

outside of the city so you're gonna have to get there and trust me please trust

me you don't wanna deal too much with the public transportation because there

probably won't be much of it anyway so rent the car renting a car allows you to

go and pick a hotel a little bit further out maybe a little bit closer to the

track further out of the city but at the same time it will make your life

thousand times easier so doesn't really differ that much I don't need to do this

or this on to the next one actually quick note

on Austin itself if you are going to the u.s. Grand Prix you're going to Austin

buy parking as well in our case if would have stayed in the city center there was an

option to take a shuttle but shuttle takes about 20 to 25 minutes if there is no

traffic and on the race day believe me there's a lot of traffic it can take up

to hour and a half to get from the city into the racetrack just bite the bullet

because of the fact that you're already spending decent amount of money on

everything else and just pay for parking don't wait in Austin the tickets were

actually about a hundred bucks for one parking spot but it's parking spot for a

car so if there are four friends and each one of you spends $25 you cover the

parking spot and you make your life so much easier because now you're in

control when you're getting in when you're getting out just take into

account the travel time it's gonna be long it's gonna be frustrating and

hopefully you're gonna make sure you're not late

so yeah and I think my final advice is I really make sure you make an event out

of it and you should not be really going there just for the race because trust me

it's gonna be crazy and getting in right as everyone is trying to get in for the

first day of the race weekend which is Friday or getting out right after the

race is over which is something that the Monday morning make it last if you can

afford it do some things around the city like in our case we actually had some

nice family time at the hotel because we stayed an extra I think being a half and

it was amazing

okay that was the first attempt. He's though...that thing got away from me come back

here they actually have

a 24/7 pecan vending-machine 21st century people. I think those are the main points that I

wanted to bring to you nothing super major or crazy I think

those are very logical but I actually had a hard time I had to go in between

different resources to collect to understand what's gonna happen during

the event hopefully this video helps you a little bit more yeah feel free to ask

me more questions in the comments below find me on Twitter or Instagram have fun

you make a vacation out of it don't just come there for the race come there for

the experience well what can I say this was a very nice way to spend this lonely

evening on the work trip now this guy Tohir I'm gonna go get some rest

it's been a long week I'm looking forward to starting the Edit and

hopefully hearing your feedback and comments in this section below

hey there's a comment section and there's a subscribe button somewhere

over there don't forget about it as always thank you very much for your

attention I'll see you next time guys see ya peace! hello again this is

actually the morning after I woke up this morning feeling a particular way

and I realized why the fun fact is I actually planned to shoot the video that

I made here in DC back during the f1 weekend in Austin but for some reason I

just stopped and I kind of gave up on that video idea and I figured that you

know what maybe someday in the future I'm gonna use it for something else

coming back to yesterday and getting my head together and actually sitting down

and shooting the video made me feel so good because god it feels nice to

actually finish something thank you guys see in the next one

Easy Troubleshooting DC Problems With A Multimeter - Model Railroading For Beginners - Ep 19 - Duration: 19:04.

we're going to go over some basic troubleshooting techniques with a

multimeter and other devices to check your components on your model railroad

so let's get started with this right now

I'm Tom Kvichak and this is Toms Trains and Things this channel was

created to help other modelers who are in need of guidance in pursuing their dream

of building a model railroad and in the past couple of weeks I've been getting

some emails from viewers who said they bought some train sets on eBay and were

having problems with them they're not running and they wanted me to

troubleshoot them for them and I said well I'll show you how to do it I tried

to step through it with through emails but it's kind of hard doing it that way

so I'm gonna do a video on it showing you how to troubleshoot problems

on your model railroad and basically the first thing I'm gonna do is show you how

to do it on a train set to see if you got power on tracks to see if the

locomotive is working and other things that you want to take into consideration

these people have bought train sets on eBay thinking that they were good

apparently they don't work and one of them said that the contacted the seller

and the seller says well you're not hooking it up right and I just I just

wrote back to him I says well that's the canned excuse from everybody that sells

something you're not hooking it up right but I know these people were hooking it

up right because they stepped me through some of the things that they've done

already and it appears that they are doing it right so I'm gonna go through

this and show you how to troubleshoot to see if your locomotive is working to see

if your power pack is working to see if your wires are working and I have some

back here I have the locomotive and I have the the EZ track now the ones that

they were talking about were Bachmann and that one person showed me a power

supply it's a little bit different than this one but I'm gonna use this one

because this is the Bachmann one have and I'll show you some of the MRC

ones I have too and show you how to troubleshoot with those also so if you

would like to see more videos like this go ahead and hit that subscribe button

and go to my channel click right below the video where it says Toms Trains and

Things click on that and that'll take you to my channel page and click on

Playlists and that will show you all the playlists that I have I have them

grouped into different categories by topic so it's easy to find so if you're

looking for something on soldering you'll go find it if you're looking for

electrical project you could find it if you're looking for DCC you'll find it I

have over 40 playlists on there where the videos are grouped in two categories

so you could find them easily so take a look at it and let's get started with

this with the multimeter since this is a model railroading for beginners episode

I'm going to do this for DC only I'm not gonna be doing DCC troubleshooting so

this is gonna be for DC only and we're gonna use a multimeter it doesn't have

to be one like this it could be a less expensive one you could pick one up

anywhere hardware stores Walmart anywhere even on my Amazon Shop store I

have a few multi-meters on there and we're going to use this Bachmann one

here and you could see it has the plugs in the back for the power for the little

wall wart and it has a plug right here for the track power now most of the

problems that I think that everybody was having was whether to find out if the

transformer was bad that the wire was bad or the connection on the track was

bad or the locomotive was bad so we're going to cover all of those aspects

right here the first thing I'm going to show you is about the locomotive I have

a steam locomotive here that I picked up at a thrift store a few years ago there

was many there were many items there it looked like the the modeler passed away

and his wife unloaded everything at the thrift store so I

picked up quite a few locomotives and some buildings and some other supplies

there but I had no idea if they ran or not luckily they all ran one thing you

could do if you go somewhere and you find a locomotive

even at a train show take a 9-volt battery just a 9-volt battery and this

is only going to work on DC and just put it now you can see on the tender here

you have these little wipers on the wheels okay that is an indication that

one set of wheels is is going to one track and the other set of wheels is

making contact with the other track so you can't do it on here but do it on

here and just put your 9-volt battery up there and just see if it turns now this

is not going to give you anything for speed or how smooth it runs or anything

like that but you'll be able to see if the locomotive runs and if there's

anything stuck on there like is see if the the gears are stuck or anything like

that so that's the number one thing to troubleshoot to see if your locomotive

is working now don't try this on DCC because it won't work and you'll notice

on DCC there will be a little plate on the bottom and it'll say DCC onboard so

only on DC continuing with the locomotive if your tender has these

wipers on it right here that means that one set of wheels is making contact with

one track and the other set of wheels is making contact with the other track and

I'm going to show you how to do this right here we're going to put this on

owns and I'm going to put my lead on this side right here and we're going to

take this one right here and you'll see that you got twenty two point eight ohms

okay that means you're going through the motor on this side here you got point

three ohms so that means these wheels right here and these wheels right here

are on the same side of the motor these wheels over here are insulated so

we're going to go over to the other side okay so we'll go on this one right here

and it shows approximately 0.5 ohms so that means these wheels right here are

making contact and these over here are not so you can see it says O L that

means there's no continuity between here and here and let me put the probes on

these wheels right here so I could show you these are metal wheels on here but

if you look closely down in here you'll see that there's an insulator between

the axle and the wheels and so there's no continuity right there now on the

locomotive itself you're going to see you're going to read the coil that's in

the motor and you'll get some kind of reading on this one here it's twenty two

point seven ohms so you know that there something is working there and all of

this is without power on and the next couple of tests I'm going to do the same

thing with out our on but I'll go back to this battery

right here and you'll see now if you get it in the right spot on the wheels you

could run it for a little bit to test it up like that and you can see that it

runs freely that we've got a section of ez track right here

and what I did I use this for many different things so I I cut this here

but I'll show you how to test it with this connected if you have a small piece

of wire and we're going to check this connector right here you'll see that it

has three slots in here the Center one isn't being used so you put this little

jumper between the two if you didn't have this thing disconnected now I have

these little attachments on here but what you would do you would put these on

your plug and that won't that one's a little bit big so I can't really do it

and test it with this jumper on the back there to see if you have continuity if

you have continuity on there and what I will do is figure out which plugs or

which pins on there are the good pins okay so this back one is that wire right

there and then this wire right here

should be the second one so they're not even using the first plug on here so

though you're getting your power from right here and right here so what you

want to do you could either do it this way you can you can do it two ways you

could leave this in here jumpered across both pins but you got to make sure it's

in there good and tight and this is probably a bad example with this one

because that's too small let me see if I have a wire is just take your meter and

your probes and go like that and if you read and if you have a reading on there

and on this one you're not going to get it because I have it disconnected but

you'll see something like that and that tells you that the wire is good that

your whole cable is good all the way up through to the plug now if you don't get

a reading and it looks like this or you get something where it says mega ohms

then your wire is bad now the connectors on the track and it's basically the same

thing you just check one side with the track okay so that this connection right

here goes to that track that's good this connection right here goes to that track

and we could do the same thing on the other side this connection right here to

that track this connection right here to this track now one other problem that

you might have and you might have dirty contacts here and here so when you're

doing this right here you're not getting good contact so and we see that's 9 ohms

and that's good come over to the other wire and 10.9

ohms and you realize that you're going to be doing this through the plug

through the things on the plug because I have the wire right here so you see all

of this is good you might have a little bit of dirt or something in there

because you've seen that the resistance on one wire to the track was lower than

the other one one with the higher resistance you may have a little bit of

dirt in the contact so what I would suggest if you you could either spray

some alcohol in there and there's hardly anything that that will fit down in

there but you might be able to take that same wire and and just scrape down in

there with that wire and that might just shine it up a little bit to get good

contact in there but I wouldn't worry about it if it's just you know that you

know one ohm or a half an ohm or something like that if it was like 30

ohms or something then I would worry about it but with you know that little

bit I wouldn't worry now we know that the locomotive is good two tracks good

the wire is good and if it still doesn't run then we can assume that the

transformer is bad now the way that we can check that is we'll have to plug it

in now I have power on this little transformer here and I have my probes on

the wires but if you're you're going to be troubleshooting it you could even

bring this over to here plug this in to the track and then test the tracks

itself but I'm going to do this now putting it here is the same thing as

putting my probes on a track so you'll take a look at the meter I have it set

on DC and as I increase the throttle you'll see that the voltage increases on

it so that means the the power pack is good now whenever I change direction on

this you'll see that it changes to a negative and I'll bring it back down and

shut it off and you'll have residual power in because there's capacitors in

here and it'll slowly drop down because right now what you're doing you're

bleeding off the capacitors that's inside the power pack I just showed you

how to test the basic components to see if it does work and if you have a

problem to be able to identify what that problem is all right I have a couple of

more transformers here I have a Tech ll 2500 and I have an Ampack and model

402 now I have the Tech ll plugged in I don't have this one plugged in I'm not

going to plug in every one of them but just to show you basically everything is

the same on there on the back of this one there's an extra set of terminals

you have fixed DC accessories AC and variable DC the variable DC is going to

be what you're going to hook up to your tracks and so I'm just going to hook

these leads up right here to show you if I can get them to stick on there on the

screw well I'm testing this without having to hold it all the way you might

have to hold it a little bit but I'll turn the power on right here and I'll

increase on the throttle and you can see as I increase the voltage increases all

the way up to 18 almost 18 and a half volts now I'll switch the direction on

here and it'll and you'll lose the minus on there

so I'm going to go over to fix DC and this is a like 19 and a half and I'll go

over to the AC and the AC says 20 okay 15 just under 16 volts so basically

everything the same on a power pack it doesn't matter what the brand is or how

big it is or how small it is you're going to have basically the same thing

this one has tracked DC and accessories it doesn't have the fixed DC on it and

you know just on some of them you're gonna have three sets of terminals that

most of them you're just going to have two sets of terminals you're going to

have the variable DC for your throttle and AC for the accessories so that's

basically what you have to do to check on them with the meter to make sure that

they are working properly now in future episodes I'll show you how to do more

troubleshooting on your model railroad in DC and later on in DC see if you have

any questions or comments about specific problems that you're having leave a

comment down below or else you could contact me through my email toms trains

and things at gmail.com I have to think about it you know or else you could go

on my website and go on to contact page and you can leave a message on there

also and that will send me an email that I'll be able to respond back to you so

if you have any questions about this or any other troubleshooting about DC on

your model railroad just go ahead leave a comment or leave me an email and I'll

be happy to help you out with that settle

that's this one for right now and we'll have more on troubleshooting DC and

later on DCC so thank you

Video Marketing - Stretch Yourself for Confidence on Camera - Duration: 4:49.

Today I'm going to talk about how you can stretch yourself to feel more

comfortable in front of a video camera. And I have the perfect person to talk

about how you can stretch yourself to do things in a different way...It is Julie

Johnson. And Julie is the founder of the Success Club and she works with business

women to help them to stretch themselves to be more accountable and to get better

results. Good morning Julie. Good morning Eamonn.

So Julie, I'd like to talk a little bit about video content and how for many

women are men it is quite a stretch for them to have a bash at this. What would

you say to people who are reluctant to have a go with something - even though in

their hearts and souls they know they should or they ought to have a bash at

something - but maybe they're not sure that they can when it comes to video? Hmm...

it's an interesting start point because the word 'should' is kind of a ...it's a real

issue for me. So, I like to talk to people about 'Is that, is that, something you

really want to do? Do you feel that it would benefit you in your business? So, if

that's a yes then yeah we can look at how do we stretch. But, if it's a no...then

maybe you, maybe you, need to do something else and videos are not for you. But actually,

video is a great way of getting your personality across. So, I guess the

first thing to do is to practice -- is just to have a go. Because we need to get

all of that initial "oh my god is that how I look" and "is that how I sound...that

is awful" and comparing ourselves to other people. That's a real biggie, isn't

it? Look at people who are really comfortable and have had loads of practice or loads

of experience -- you know, putting really professional stuff out there. When, of

course, you probably can't right at the start.

They didn't, right at the start. And so, it's about starting from where you

are and taking the small steps and not trying to kind of push that comfort zone

so much that you're blasting out of it and getting into total panic.

But, straying within that stretch. Yeah, I loved something you said there Julie. You

talked about the importance of not comparing yourself with others. Why is

that something that gets in the way of people just trying things that maybe

they can do? I think. I mean, I don't know is the easy answer. I think it's part

of the human condition, to be perfectly honest. That we all do it. But I think

it's something that I, it's something that I focus on quite a lot. Because they

are the main fears that people have -- the fears of not looking professional, not

sounding like they know what they're talking about or regional accents or

whatever people get hung up on. You know, there are lots of issues that we have. I'm...

so actually I've forgotten the question now!!! Ha. I was talking about the -- and actually you

obviously weren't doing it -- I was talking about the importance of not comparing

yourself with others, because it can create an obstacle -- where you start to

say well I don't know that I can be as good as that person as opposed to maybe

thinking on a more personal basis. Yeah. I think we we literally have to get over

ourselves and stop doing that. And maybe we need a reminder on a constant basis

whether that's ourselves or in some kind of accountability group or some kind of

coach...it kind of reminds you of that... that everyone, everyone's starting point is

different. And you won't know what those other people have gone through and the kind of

practice and experience those other people have had when you're comparing

yourself. So, start from where you are and look at where you want to go and how to

do that effective use for yourself. Yeah and actually just to close out then. If

you think about -- and you've created a lot of video to date --

if you think about what you've learned, above everything else, that you can

share with people as they become more comfortable getting in in front of a

camera...what would your advice be? Be yourself.

Hmm. Be, be, authentic. And be who you are. Don't try to be someone else or to copy

what other people do, if you think that works for them. Because, it probably

won't work for you. No. I think that's an absolutely fabulous way in which to end

this folks because the more 'you are you' , the easier it is for you and the better

it is for those who get to watch you. So thank you so much. I really enjoyed that.

ACTIVISTS ARRESTED IN ATLANTA FOR FEEDING HOMELESS WITHOUT A PER - Duration: 5:47.

ACTIVISTS ARRESTED IN ATLANTA FOR FEEDING HOMELESS WITHOUT A PERMIT BEFORE THANKSGIVING

BY Aaron Kesel,

The Sunday before Thanksgiving Atlanta police handed out tickets to activists feeding the

homeless in a clear display of disregard for its hungry citizens simply because activists

didnt have a food distribution permit.

Atlanta, which is in Fulton County, has long had a policy requiring organizers of such

efforts to obtain a permit.

Local authorities have in the past turned a blind eye to the ordinance, though, according

to the activist groups including Food Not Bombs that feed the homeless.

But last week that changed, of all times right before the American holiday where you are

supposed to give thanks and share.

Instead, those giving to others in need were arrested for not having a measly piece of

paper that authorizes them to hold the food drives and pay the state to do so.

These permits are often costly and are an outrage in that they violently coerce groups

into applying for charity toward fellow citizens so they dont starve to death.

But, alas, the state has always used and abused the color of law to be sure they get their

cut of whatever they deem to be illegal. When it comes to food, however, it is a practice

that is particularly inhumane and insane to punish peoples natural inclination to help

those in need.

Two activists who were arrested, Adele Maclean and Marlon Kautz, spoke out on the matter

to local CBS station WSB-TV in Atlanta.

I mean, outrageous, right?

Of all the things to be punished for, giving free food to people who are hungry? Maclean

told CBS WSB-TV.

It seems ridiculous to me that they would be spending their time and resources on stopping

people from feeding the homeless, Maclean added.

Georgia State Police also distributed a flyer, produced by Atlantas Department of Public

Safety, about the enforcement of a county ordinance that requires permits for the operation

of a food service establishment. According to the flyer, enforcement is necessary for

sanitary reasons and because many people become dependent on these activities, leading

them to stay on the streets instead of seeking the help and support they truly need, the

Intercept reported.

Georgia citizens arent giving up according to Maclean; she noted that they will be holding

meal serving outside of the courthouse in a blatant display of disobedience.

There is gonna be a meal serving outside the courthouse on that same day.

So Im due in the court at 8 a.m. on the 14th, and we will be outside with a table

with coffee and breakfast, she told The Intercept.

This isnt the first time that activists have been harassed for not paying the State

to hold an event that helps their fellow citizenry.

Earlier this year, activists affiliated with the same group Food Not Bombs were arrested

in Tampa, Florida for the same heinous crime of not getting the states permission to

feed the homeless in their own cities and counties.

It may surprise some of our readers, but it is actually illegal to feed the homeless without

a permit or is altogether banned in many cities across the country.

In 2014 it was reported that 71 cities in the U.S. have passed or tried to pass ordinances

that criminalize feeding the homeless, according to Michael Stoops, director of community organizing

at the National Coalition for the Homeless.

According to the Associated Press in the year 2013, four out of every five adults in the

United States will struggle with joblessness, near poverty or reliance on welfare for at

least parts of their lives. And, yet, it is become more generally frowned upon to offer

food assistance.

Ironically, the argument is often that recipients of such charity wont seek the help they

ultimately need.

Wouldnt you want someone to offer their time, love and compassion to cook you a meal

if you fall on hard times due to something completly beyond your control?

Some day you might have to rely on such generosity.

We cant stop feeding the homeless simply because of a dictate from the State, nor should

we stop exposing the lack of compassion that some police have while they serve and protect

the State and not their own citizens.

The only option and hope is we the people, so be a human being and feed those in need

instead of promoting the heartless idea that people need to starve because its the

law.

This is a perfect example that many times the law isnt ethically or morally justified.

In such cases, it requires people to be defiant in the face of tyranny.

Wasting resources to arrest nonviolent criminals for feeding homeless people should eventually

catch enough wind in the public until people simply will not tolerate their tax dollars

supporting such injustice.

We should remember that without peaceful civil disobedience there wouldnt be civil rights

or womens rights either.

Atlanta Indymedia caught the insane arrests as they happened in the video below uploaded

to YouTube.

SCOTUS Makes Heroic Stand for Southern History, Defends Flag - Duration: 5:06.

SCOTUS Makes Heroic Stand for Southern History, Defends Flag

In a bold stand for states rights, the United States Supreme Court this week rejected a case that challenged the use of a Confederate symbol on the Mississippi state flag.

Lawyer Carlos Moore, who is black, said the symbol on the Mississippi flag was "an official endorsement of white supremacy" and sought to have the flag declared unconstitutional, The Associated Press reported.

The Mississippi state flag, which has been in use since 1894, features the Confederate battle flag in its upper left corner.

Moore's lawsuit argued that the flag, which hangs in state buildings, courts and schools, was an oppressive symbol.

The message in Mississippis flag has always been one of racial hostility and insult and it is pervasive and unavoidable by both children and adults, Moores appeal read, according to the AP.

The states continued expression of its message of racial disparagement sends a message to African-American citizens of Mississippi that they are second class citizens, it said.

Moore filed his lawsuit in February 2016, but a lower court refused to hear the suit because Moore did not have standing to sue, the AP reported.

ABC News reported that attorneys for Mississippi argued that a lawsuit must show an allegation of discriminatory treatment, and Moores lawsuit did not do that.

Republican Gov. Phil Bryant has called Moores lawsuit frivolous, according to ABC.

Bryant maintains that if the flags design is to be changed, it should be done by a statewide vote.

In 2001, Mississippi residents voted to keep the flag.

In 2015, Bryant declared that he would not call the state's legislature into special session to debate the removal of the Confederate flag.

The Supreme Court did not issue a comment with its decision.

However, under the Supreme Courts rules of procedure, the votes of only four justices are needed to accept a case.

That means not even all the courts liberals — Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonya Sotomayor and Elena Kagan — could agree to get involved.

We always knew it was a long shot, Moore told the AP, adding that he was still hopeful that the flag would one day come down.

With this decision, the high court is leaving the matter up to the state.

By limiting its own federal power, the court has taken a stand for not only states rights, but against the witch hunt against Confederate culture that has taken place in recent years.

Critics might claim that the courts decision somehow endorses the use of a racist symbol on the flag, but they would be wrong.

Such matters should be left up to the states.

Some states have already banned Confederate symbols and monuments, and it is within their right to do.

In fact, according to ABC, Mississippi is the only remaining state that still boasts the symbol of the Confederacy on its flag.

The courts decision not to hear Moores suit showed that it recognizes there are limits on federal power. And thats always good news.
