only in the Starbound multiverse can people have laser guns, FTL travel and
portals to other dimensions but be stupid enough not to see the difference
between a crystal and a giant monster
as you can see the crystal is slightly transparent and if it is transparent
enough to see where a person inside it is it surely is transparent enough to
see a giant eye that can shoot laser beams and if it lives it would give off
heat which would have been detectable by simple infrared camera but that's not
the point of the video as you have probably read in the title. In this video
we'll be taking a look at what erchius is, why it is found on moons and how it allows
FTL travel. For the people who are new to this channel which is everyone since
this is my first video I'll say all temperatures in Kelvin but Celsius and
Fahrenheit will be shown on screen I will also be using the term FTL a lot
and for the people that don't know what it means
it stands for faster than light so FTL travel is travel that's faster than
light I do have an accent so if you don't understand what I am saying you
can enable subtitles so let's first quickly try to find out what erchius is
erchius is a purple crystal family moons it is found in solid and in
liquid form its solid form's found everywhere but it's only found liquid
deep into the planets now the core of a moon in starbound is made of cold and
very strong stone-like material but in real-life our moon's core isn't cold
compared to other celestial bodies' cores it is very cold but a human would
still burn alife if they were transported to the core of the Moon. The inner core
is solid and the outer core is liquid but a layer of about 500 kilometers
around the outer core isn't completely solid but not completely liquid either
so it would be comparable to snow neither liquid nor solid but only if
that snow is sixteen hundred and thirty kelvin iron that would give you
3rd degree burns if you stood close to it
as I said you can't find any liquid or partially liquid iron in
starbounds moons but for this video we'll just assume it's below the layer of almost
indestructible rock you find and that's why you can't find it so erchius isn't
liquid on the surface which can become 370 Kelvin when in sunlight and it will melt
undergroundground even if it's far away from the core I'll assume that the deeper
caves are completely shut off from the surface which means that heat will build
up just like how the inside of a car becomes extremely hot when in sunlight
because the warm air has nowhere to go and now you might be thinking that isn't
the case on the moon because there's no air to warm up but making fire is
possible which means that there is air with an oxidizer present now what that
oxidizer is isn't important for this video
it just isn't oxygen since the player can't breathe and too much oxygen wouldn't
kill a player that fast and if the oxygen level was so low it would kill
player so quickly it wouldn't allow fire now that we know the melting point
is between 370 and 1630 Kelvin and it melts far away from the
core almost at the surface but in caves comparable to greenhouses
I'd say the melting point is around 450 Kelvin now that we know that let's move
on to why it is found on moons this actually stumped me for a bit since I
couldn't find any logical explanation the only reason something would only be
found on moons would be the temperature or the low gravity but it can survive
high temperatures so the only reason it would only appear on moons would be the low
gravity but then it would also be found on meteorites asteroids and dwarf
planets but erchius exists deep underground in high pressure and I know
that pressure and gravity are completely different things but something that
survives the constant pressure of hundreds of metres of stone on top of it
ought to survive gravity as strong as earths the only other thing special to
moons are the erchius ghosts now starbound is in a multiverse I will
probably make a separate video on why but the basics of that theory are every
person has a separate universe but the characters can travel between the universes
you can go to the universe of multiplayer server with the same
character you can use in your private universe so I think erchius ghosts
come from another universe where the physical laws are completely
different they have the ability to split into two ghosts travel trough the multiverse
and consume stone which after digestion has turned into erchius one ghost was once
created as a Boltzmann brain I'm not going to explain what that is in full detail
because it would take too long but what it basically is is comparable to the
with an infinite amount of monkeys with typewriters one will eventually write
the full script of Shakespeare play thing if you have random particles moving in
random directions for a long enough time they will eventually arrange in such a
way of creates a conscious being in this case it was a ghost and since it can
split maybe after an hour there were two ghosts after two hours there were four
ghosts and after week there were three point seven four one four four four one
nine times ten to the power fifty or three seven four one four four four one
nine with 42 zeroes following with all around 374 quindecillion since it can't
die its growth wouldn't be bottlenecked in any way and it would need to fill new
galaxies very quickly but now there's the question why they only appear on
moons I think it's because it would take a long time for a Boltzmann brain to be
created actually long is an understatement for something like this
an infinity would be an appropriate term it probably lived in a universe
hundreds of trillions of years old where the physical laws would have made it so
that black holes couldn't exist and the only thing still in the universe after
such a long time would be big rocks flying trough space this would make them
prefer moons since they're comparable to what they were used to in their own universe
this explanation isn't really scientific anymore but it is the most scientific
answer I could think of all other things were things like ancient aliens
collected it from all the planets and the erchius ghosts were summoned to
protect the last bit of it that was left on moons like how the Lorax was summoned
to protect the trees and now the part you probably clicked on this video for
how can it make you go ftl in current science FTL's completely
impossible so it has got to do something with it coming from another dimension
with different physical laws first we need to assume that a matter manipulator
harvests things completely we're before being harvested not
changing a single atom I think erchius might be some extremely dense matter
that's frozen because not a single particles moving because there's
literally no space between the atoms but if one atom changes it sets off a chain
reaction causing an explosion pointed in a single direction but only it would
release so much energy it would dwarf a supernova in the same way a supernova would
dwarf a firecracker now you might say but how will the player carry that that
would weigh billions of tons but the player can carry entire mountains of
stone or swim in the deepest ocean without getting crushed so the player
basically is infinitely strong when it comes to carrying stuff the FTL drive is
a small fusion reactor fusing one atom and as a chain reaction the others
