How bad was 2017 for Hollywood? - Duration: 10:01.

Hollywood parts from 2017 in a state worse

than when it welcomed it.

It is still cut out from Washington, which was taken

over by its foe, Donald Trump

while its studios face existential crisis due to

a shrinking box office

and the expansion of the streaming giants

and is drowned in a sex scandal

that has led to the downfall

of some of its prominent stars and executives

In the beginning of the year, Hollywood was in a state of shock and despair

due to the surprising victory of Donald Trump

over its candidate, Hillary Clinton, in the presidential elections

Stars were surprised and dismayed by the American voters

and particularly women who voted in high numbers for

someone, who made misogynistic and racist

and anti environment comments during his campaign

When Hollywood woke up from its shock, it launched battles against Trump on different fronts

Freedom of press and abuse of power

After her speech, Steven Spielberg called her

and suggested making the film "The Post"

which deals with another president, who was hostile to the press, Nixon

to warn people from Trump

But on October 5th, the press tuned on Hollywood

when it exposed abuse of power and sexual harrassment

committed by its most prominent producer, Harvey Weinstein

Hollywood responded with banishing him and denying knowledge of his actions

Soon, Weinstein's Scandal turned into a tsunami

sweeping a number of Hollywood's executives and stars

the most prominent was Kevin Spacey

who in spite of his apology to his victims

Ridley Scott excised him from his movie

"All the Money in the World" and reshot

his scenes with his actors: Christopher Plummer

Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams, who worked free of charge

In spite of its effort in condemning and banishing the suspects

Hollywood lost its moral credibility in its battle with Trump

The Environment and Climate Change

In response to Trump's mocking of Global Warming

and Climate Change, Hollywood produced movies and documentaries

to warn people of his anti environment policies

and their devastating consequences on humanity and the planet

Darren Aronofsky warned of the destruction of the planet in "Mother"

while Alexander Pane suggested shrinking people

in order to reduce the overconsumption of the Planet's resources in "downsizing"

And Al Gore revealed the devastating consequences of

the Global warming in

"The Inconvenient sequel"

And Arnold Schwarzenegger campaigned for protecting the oceans in "The Wonders of the Sea"

But people ignored these movies

While Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement

and reopened coal mines and abolished environment protection laws

signed by Obama, and canceled his Alternative Energy initiatives

Arabs and Muslims

Trump's hostility towards Muslims gained them Hollywood's sympathy

and improved its views on them

and opened its doors for them

for the first time in nearly a hundred years

At Sundance Film Festival

a bidding war sparked over "The Big Sick"

The first comedy

about a Muslim guy falling in love with a white girl

played by

An American-Packistani comedian, Kumail Nanjiani

and grossed $55 million in the box office

while Fox 20th century produced

"The Mountain Between US", the first Hollywood movie directed

by an Arab director, Palestinian Hany Abu Assad

Are you optimistic now?

of course, there are more opportunities now

But Trump won even this battle

when the Supreme court approved his law, banning citizens of

countries with muslim majority from entering the US

The battle for survival

The real danger to Hollywood existence is not Trump

but the smart phones and streaming companies such as Netflix

which distracted people from going to cinemas

to watch its movies

movies such as "The Mummy"

Valerian and the city of 1000 planets

justice League

The Dark Tower

crashed in the box office

which saw its gross this summer falling

15% compared with last year

dragging the studios into a financial crisis

making them vulnerable to the powerful Tech companies

and recently, telecommunication giant AT&T purchased

Warners bros

while Disney swallowed Fox studios

Will Hollywood succeed in turning the current existential crisis

into a profitable business opportunity

as it did when the TV appeared in the fifties

and VHS tapes in the eighties

and DVD disks in the ninties

The answer we may learn next year.

The TSP for BRS Members: What's It All About? - Duration: 3:27.

The TSP For BRS Members: What's It All About?

As a member of the uniformed services covered by the blended retirement system, or BRS, you receive many excellent benefits.

The Thrift Savings Plan is one that will have a significant impact on how you live your life after you retire.

The TSP is a defined contribution plan much like a 401k, which means

the retirement income you receive from your TSP account

will depend on how much money is contributed to it during your working years, and their earnings that accumulate over time.

As a BRS member you have the substantial added benefit of contributions from your service to your TSP account.

You automatically get an amount equal to one percent of your base salary each pay period. You don't even have to contribute any money to

your TSP account to get this money; your service gives it to you.

But you do have to have two years of service before you are entitled to keep this portion of your balance.

You can also receive up to an additional 4% of your pay from your service.

Think of it as free money and all you have to do is contribute 5% of your pay every pay period.

These Service Matching Contributions

start immediately if you began your service before 2018

and then opted into BRS. If you started on January 1, 2018, or later,

you must serve two years before being eligible for matching.

Here are some other features of the TSP.

Investment Options. You get to choose from a diversified menu of funds, or you can select from one of our lifecycle funds.

Choice of Tax Treatments. You can make traditional contributions,

which come out of your pay before tax, and your investment earnings are tax deferred.

When you withdraw your money at retirement the entire amount of your withdrawal is subject to income tax.

You can also make Roth contributions, which come out of your pay after tax. Roth contributions contributions are always tax-free when withdrawn.

And earnings on Roth contributions are paid tax-free when withdrawn as long as certain IRS rules are met.

Watch our Roth video to find out more about the TSP Roth option.

When you make traditional contributions

from tax-exempt pay, you won't pay any tax on the contributions,

but your earnings will be taxed when withdrawn. And if you make Roth

Contributions from your tax-exempt pay, not only are your contributions tax free when withdrawn, but so are their earnings as long as you meet the necessary

IRS rules.

Low Administrative and Investment Expenses. That's good news for you because your returns aren't being eaten away by high fees.

Transfers In. If you already have tax deferred money in a traditional IRA or another eligible employer plan,

you can transfer those accounts into your TSP.

You can also transfer in Roth money from an eligible employer plan, but not from a Roth IRA.

So here's how it works: If you entered the service on or after January 1, 2018,

your service automatically enrolled you in the TSP and began deducting three percent of your basic pay every pay period and

depositing it into your TSP account. If you started before then and opted it into BRS,

then you were enrolled at that time and chose your own contribution amount. Once enrolled, you control the amount of your contributions

and what funds to invest in.

The TSP for non-BRS Uniformed Services Members - Duration: 2:48.

As a member of the uniformed services you receive many great benefits.

Even if you are not covered by the

Blended Retirement System

you can still contribute to the Thrift Savings Plan.

This can have a significant impact on

your life in retirement.

By contributing to the TSP you can help protect your

future while you protect our country.

Like a 401k the retirement income you receive from your TSP account will

depend on how much money you contribute to it

during your working years and the

earnings that accumulate over time.

And your TSP retirement benefits are yours

no matter how long you serve.

So why is participating in the TSP a great idea?

Here are three reasons.

Low administrative fees.

Some plan fees can

take the bang out of your buck but the TSP as expenses are lower than similar

plans so you keep more of what you save.

Investment options.

The TSP offers you

five individual investment funds that cover nearly all the investment landscape.

The TSP also has Lifecycle funds which are an ideal solution if you

don't have the time, experience or interest in managing your retirement investments.

Tax treatments

The TSP gives you a choice of tax treatments.

Pre-tax or traditional and after tax or Roth.

Traditional contributions come out of

your pay before tax and your investment earnings are tax deferred.

When you withdraw your money at retirement it's subject to income tax.

With Roth contributions you pay taxes on the money you save before it goes into your TSP

account so you pay no income taxes when you take it out and your earnings can

also be tax-free if certain

conditions are met.

Watch our Roth video to find out more.

If you are serving in a combat zone here's

something else you need to know.

When you make traditional contributions from

tax-exempt pay you won't pay any tax on the contributions but your earnings will

be taxed when withdrawn.

And if you make Roth contributions from your tax-exempt pay

not only are your contributions tax-free when withdrawn but so are their

earnings as long as you meet the necessary IRS rules.

Here's how you sign up.

Check with your services payroll office about its procedures for starting

your TSP contributions.

You'll either use your

services electronic system or you'll fill out a form TSP-U-1, Election Form.

If you complete form U-1 remember that you must return it to your

payroll office not the TSP.

Want to know more?

Visit our website at tsp.gov or

call the thrift line and speak to a participant services representative.

For more information about

contributing to the TSP

World Darts Championship: Rob Cross and Phil Taylor prepare for epic showdown - Duration: 5:21.

World Darts Championship: Rob Cross and Phil Taylor prepare for epic showdown

Turn back time to January 1990 and a man by the name of Phil Taylor was also priced at 125-1 to win the BDO World Darts Championship.

Now the pair will go head-to-head for the first time on the stage of the Alexandra Palace in a final which, on the first day of 2018, will remain one of the sports stories of the year.

We all know what happened in 1990 - Taylor beat his mentor Eric Bristow 6-1 in the final. And something else also happened in that year.

Eight months after Taylor lifted the trophy, Cross was born on September 21. Taylor won on his world championship debut, so could history be about to repeat itself for the modern day 125-1 man? "I never expected this rise.

I am just a normal working boy," said Cross. Incredibly, not until November's Grand Slam in Wolverhampton, had Cross even met Taylor.

"I have watched Phil since being a young boy of around 12 when I fell in love with the game. He is an inspiration." Rob Cross He said: "I got a photo with him.

It sounds sad now doesn't it? He did say to me, 'You and me in the final in the worlds'. "I have watched Phil since being a young boy of around 12 when I fell in love with the game.

He is an inspiration." But Cross is not here by luck. He reached the quarter-final of the Grand Slam, he was runner-up in the European Championship and made the Players Championship semi-finals.

He has become the new star of world darts. A former electrician, he joined the professional PDC tour on February 1.

Cross has progressed through the ranks so quickly that he started the championships at Ally Pally as World No. 20 and his odds days before the event had dropped to 14-1.

And, in the early hours of Sunday morning, with a dart soaring magnificently into double eight, Cross beat the defending champion and World No.1 Michael Van Gerwen 6-5 in a sudden death shoot-out after an extraordinary semi-final.

"Friends locally put money on at 125-1 and one guy got 250-1," said Cross "He is sitting on a pretty portion. Knowing him, he would have put on quite a bit.

"I believe in my own ability. I feel I can be better than what I am.

"I have always been able to throw darts but since having three kids and the responsibility, I know what it is like to graft for money. It changes you as a person.

"Hopefully when I finish darts I can give my family a better life. I never play for money but the more you can bring in for them.

I am not here for the fame." It truly is the hottest ticket in sport, because when the The Power by Snap! booms out, it will be the last time as a professional that 16-time world champion Taylor will make his way to the stage.

The 57-year-old's enthusiasm and desire to win the title for the first time since 2013 is as great as ever.

He showed as much with his fist-pumping on the way to knocking out Jamie Lewis 6-1 in their semi. Taylor said: "Can I tell you a secret? I've never really believed I can win this tournament.

I still don't think I'm going to win it – but I am going to enjoy it.

"At face value, getting to a world championship final at 57 is my greatest achievement of all but when you look at what's happened over the past two weeks, maybe I've just been lucky.

All the big seeds have fallen by the wayside. "Let's be honest, I'm not the best player in the tournament.

I'm too old and too tired now." And will there be tears? "I'm sure there will be, yes," said Taylor. "I've loved every minute but it's almost time to go.

One more time, and that's me done. Don't worry about me – I can handle the emotions, I'm fine."  .
