Rabbi Dahlen's Shabbat Message for Parashat Balak - Duration: 5:00.
In the opening monologue of one of my favorite movies
of all time, "Annie Hall", Woody Allen looks
into the camera and he addresses the audience
and he says to the audience, a couple of classic
Jewish jokes. And one of those jokes
is the following: There are two women sitting
at a Catskill Mountains ski resort. One woman turns to
the other and says
"Wow, you know the food here is really horrible."
And the other woman turns to her and says " I know, and such small portions ."
Now Woody Allen uses this joke
to go a step further and to say
that this is his philosophy about life.
That it's divided into the horrible, and the miserable,
and that it's all over way too quickly.
Now as Jews we can appreciate this humor.
We think it's funny, and it's very self deprecating,
and it's very philosophical in its nature.
But our tradition also demands that we
look at this joke a little bit differently.
Our tradition understands
that there are challenges in life
As sometimes life is painful. That sometimes
we don't feel like getting out of bed in the morning.
And that sometimes seizing the day is the last thing we want to do.
That sometimes it really does feel like the food is awful
and the portions are small.
But our tradition demands
that we also look at one extra piece,
and say no matter what the food tastes like
and no matter how small those portions
the most important thing, isn't the food itself,
but it's that the company we keep is really wonderful.
So if we were to tell the story again based on
our traditions, this joke again
from the context of our tradition
We would say, "you know the food here is really horrible."
The other woman says "yeah and such small portions,
but it's so wonderful that we get to be here and share it together."
That's really the nature of our tradition,
it's the nature of our humor, it's the nature of our religion, it's the nature of our people
that whenever there is suffering, whenever there is
challenges that we face, we face them together.
In our Parashat this week, Parashat Balak, we have the ultimate Parasha
of curses and blessings. The King Balak
sends a prophet, Balaam, to curse the Israelites.
And instead of issuing curses,
God fills his mouth with blessings.
Balaam looks over
from the cliffs and sees the camps of the Israelites
and instead of issuing curses from his mouth
what he says is "Mah tovu ohaleicha
ya'akov mishkenoteicha Yisrael"
How goodly are your tents of Jacob?
How wonderful are your dwellings, you people of Israel?
And this has become a blessing that we say every single morning
It is traditional for a religious Jew to wake up
and to say words of Thanks, words of Appreciation
And thnwhen entering a Synagogue,
when entering a prayer space, when entering a house of study
to say these very words, "How lovely are
your dwellings people of Jacob, your sanctuaries
the decedents of Israel
Mah tovu ohaleicha ya'akov mishkenoteicha Yisrael.
I wanted to take this opportunity to
talk about how we can frame our mind
with a little bit of a song
with a little bit of music that comes with this,
and this is a song that we teach all of our Religious School students
and it might seem a little childish, in its
nature and its tune, but it's a beautiful way to
attune ourselves to the beginning of our day.
So with these very words, if you have a Siddur with you
on page one in the red Sim Shalom
or page 61 in the blue Sim Shalom.
And the words are directly the words from our Parasha
"Ma tovu ohalekha Ya'akov, mishk'notekha Yisra-el."
and the tune goes like this ....
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
(Rabbi chanting)
So as we enter Shabbat this week
It is my blessing to you that everyday is
filled with blessing
that even when there are times of challenge,
when there are days that seem like they are cursed
that the food may seem bad
the portions may seem small.
That we could look at our lives, look at those surrounding us
our friends, our family, our community,
and we can say the company
is really wonderful.
So from Meredith and I
from our family to your family
we wish you a Shabbat Shalom.
May it be filled with peace, may it be filled with rest
and may it be filled with blessing.

top 5 Graphic Design tips for beginners - Duration: 4:58.
I've been interested in graphic design for quite a while
and after having an opportunity to study in a design school
I have collected some thoughts
that I wish I could just have in my head.
In any creative field one thing is for sure.
You don't need school. (school is cool! study! just don't rely on it!)
And it could be very important
and it could help you along the way
but it's not the core of any creative field.
To be better at it
and to make progress you have just to work,
you have just to practice
If you don't have the opportunity to study in the design school or any other creative school
you can just practice, just show your artwork,
just share and ask people, what do they think of it.
What I have noticed if people are either talented or not. (you can be not talanted, but work hard and you'll be just fine!)
They either work hard or not.
If they're not talanted, if they don't work
nobody will help them get any better,
and I am quite sure that those people who are
thriving in the school, could be thriving as well if they just
tried doing that themselves because they are just passionate about it.
So just work
In the field that you want to accomplish.
Another thing would be to start on paper.
Whatever you do
Are you doing logo design, are you doing posters- start on paper
first of all it's very easy to sketch out ideas
Second of all - lines are more natural
Third thing would be that don't have all those unnecessary tools that just distract you from doing and creating
so
Just start on paper first and then put your work into digital world
And I know paper can seem scary for a lot of people because since we were little people have been telling us
That's not good enough. That's not how the world looks. That's not how you're supposed to paint a snowman
But it's not important to be the best at painting. It's not even important to be good.
You just have to work, you just have to practice
Drawing, sketching everyday, just doodling
Whatever you like
You just have to work with paper and stop being afraid of it
those shouldn't be the right lines those shouldn't be the right propotions
those shouldn't be the right colors
You have to just work with paper and with your hands a lot
With any material, just work with paper a lot
And talking about doing a lot of things
one May ask
where will I find inspiration
and
There comes other people
You just look at what others do and you think why can't I do it
but the most important thing in here is
You can just straight up copy things that other people do
you can pick up pieces of different artists
you can compose it with your own ideas
then it's great
If you took something from one person, if you took something from another and you added a little bit if your ideas then its great
non idea nowadays can be truly original
because everything has been done and
everything is just copying
in case if you just take
somebody's work and you
Do the same thing
that's
Talking about inspiration the greatest inspiration for any graphic designer should be his audience,
not his audience, but the audience of the brand he is working for
and in case of graphic design you are always working for some brand
You have to know what does the audience like, what doesn't it like, what seems appearing to it
what color does it love
so grphic design is not art for its sake it's very much all
All about the audience, and it's all about catching attention
Getting across the right message
any good brand will have a clear voice
some kind of message
and with your work in graphic design you will have to be able to get that across
not your own ideas
But the ideas of your brand
the ideas of the brand you're working for
so if you found this interesting
Please give it like.

Preparing my trailer for 49m blade - Iwona Blecharczyk Trucking Girl - Duration: 19:53.
presents
Preparing my trailer for 49m blade
Hi!
Today I saying hello from the loading place
I'm in Germany, it's a holiday in Poland, but I'm in Gerlany and it's a working day here
So I arrived here
about 11a.m.
I made a 9h pause
and now it's time to prepare my trailer for a loading
So later I will just need to extend it
and the rest will be ready
Today I will load a blade that requires a little bit more work to be loaded
I'll have to prepare few chains
and it's windy
I don't know if you hear me
If not, I'll tell that one more time later
Let's go to work!
I'll pull out the tail in advance
this time...
without this ending
for Vestas
I'll unpin it
the tail is ready
It's used with another blades
The cords...
25m
maybe 3 will be enough
I'll take out three
and the chains
One...
this one is jamming
Two...
You boast about what you have?
yeah
I'll sell it
this one haven't been used for long too
it's screwed strongly on one side
what?
I'm recording
What?
Everything!
this one has blocked
It's got stuck inside
It's been oiled but...
Hide your tongue
It does it all the time
what?
Nothing, the one stretcher that always...
doesn't want to screw and unscrew
Three...
And we need four more
Four...
Will you help me?
Six...
Some sheckels...
How many shekels do we need?
What?
Two sheckles, right?
Six!
You can take six!
You can take six!
Or three...
If I tell you, It must be right
What do we have here?
Seven stretchers
seven chains,
some cords
a cord for the tail
it will go on the plate in the front
like that, it will just be reversed, so I'll put it here
So now we just need to transport it
Where could I put my camera?
Or I'll put it in the front
Or on the back, or I don't know
On the spare wheel
You can sit here and I will work
My pants are dirty...
I can lend you my pants
the front is prepared
We put two chains crossed in the front
One is for braking
I'll need to put some rubbers in the middle
I'll tried different rubbers
Some are shorter because they are being damaged by the rack
And I have to shorten it
Cut it etc.
And I measure which one will be good
The front is ready
Now the back
Here we have some bars, I'll have to move them
And everything is ready!
The back rack for the blade will stand on these bars
So the blade's 'belly' won't hit the trailer
And that's all, the trailer is ready
Now we're going to enter to the company area
I'm not allowed to record there so you won't see the loading and how I'll leave
When I leave I'll show you how it looks like
Now Ihave to put on my helmet, goggles etc.
And go...
thanks for watching :)

USGS Scenario Evaluator for Electrical Resistivity Survey Design Tool - Duration: 4:23.
[Narrator]
Today is environmental site managers have many tools to choose from when conducting
site characterization and remediation.
Geophysical tools can provide noninvasive ways to see inside the earth, much like how
medical imaging lets us see inside the human body.
The USGS Scenario Evaluator for Electrical Resistivity (or "SEER") is a quick and simple
tool practitioners can use to assess the likely outcome of using two-dimensional electrical
resistivity imaging for site characterization and remediation monitoring.
Electrical resistivity imaging is a widely used geophysical method for environmental
site management studies.
The method is sensitive to fluid conductivity, interconnected porosity, saturation, clay
content, and metallic materials.
But is 2D electrical resistivity imaging the right tool for your project?
This depends on the site properties, the goals of the survey, and the survey design.
The Scenario Evaluator for Electrical Resistivity, or SEER, is a spreadsheet-based tool that
allows the user to simulate conceptual site models for electrical resistivity imaging.
Usually when you go into the field, you have an idea of what you are looking for, and you
know something about the site geology and hydrogeology.
With this information, you can use SEER as a type of quick geophysical feasibility study
to see if electrical resistivity imaging is the right tool for the job.
First, you use your site conceptual model to create a model of the anticipated electrical
resistivity conditions at the site.
Then, you use this to create a hypothetical dataset, like what you would expect to collect
in the field, which is called a forward model.
Next, you analyze the hypothetical dataset as if it were actual data collected in the
field, giving an inverse model that provides a realistic idea of the best obtainable result
from a geophysical survey in the field.
Although you might assume the inverse model would always match the true resistivity model
we created based on our conceptual model, it inevitably will not.
Unlike in popular movies, real-word geophysical surveys donít provide magical 20/20 vision
of the Earthís subsurface, but instead provide images that can be blurry and imperfect yet
still useful.
Letís see how desktop feasibility studies with SEER can help you decide whether electrical
resistivity imaging surveys are a go/no-go for a particular environmental investigation.
The SEER spreadsheet allows the user to select a survey design to model, Using dropdown menus,
the user can: Select from common study scenarios, such as
delineating dense nonaqueous-phase liquid (DNAPL) or light nonaqueous-phase liquid (LNAPL)
releases in the subsurface or imaging an underground storage tank;
Select electrode spacing and survey geometry; Estimate measurement errors, to give us something
close to real-world results; and Decide whether to add borehole electrodes.
Then you click on "simulate" to compare the true resistivity model and the predicted inversion
results.
This will give you a sense of whether your target is likely to be resolved using a given
survey design.
In another example, you can experiment with a survey design to detect a conductive DNAPL
plume.
First, model a survey using only surface electrodes.
Next, model the same target and survey, but add borehole electrodes.
This example shows that, in this scenario, you might want to add borehole electrodes
in order to develop a more accurate model of the subsurface conditions to inform remediation.
However, our project sites are more complex and electrically heterogeneous than the simple
example models shown so far.
That is why SEER allows you to freely manipulate resistivity values in cells of the worksheet.
You can change the target shape, extent, and depth, or the electrical resistivity of the
surrounding earth materials, and immediately view the effect on the predicted results.
Detailed help files provide instructions on how to use SEER, as well as background information
on electrical resistivity surveys and modeling.
SEER can provide environmental site managers with a quick and easy mini feasibility study
to assess realistic outcomes from electrical resistivity imaging for site investigations
and remediation monitoring.
SEER and additional documentation are available from the USGS web site.

Lions tour: Anthony Watson forgives Sonny Bill Williams for 'unfortunate' tackle
Anthony Watson has no hard feelings toward Sonny Bill Williams after being on the receiving end of the All Blacks shoulder in the Lions win in Wellington last weekend.
Williams was sent off in the 24th minute of the All Blacks 24-21 loss at Wellingtons Westpac Stadium last Saturday and received a four-week ban for his shoulder charge on Watson.
He messaged me on Twitter to say there was no intention and I dont doubt that, Watson told the Daily Mail.
I dont think hes a malicious player so I dont think he intentionally led with his shoulder to hurt me or anything like that. Its just unfortunate, I guess..
I had to brace myself for it, I guess, but its part and parcel of the game.
14 has been an important fixture of the side in the first two tests, and his dart down the right wing provided the platform for Taulupe Faletau to score in Wellington.
Getting the win at the weekend has given us a lot of confidence, Watson said. I wouldnt say weve got them on the ropes, but weve definitely got to keep our momentum going.
And while the Lions go into the All Blacks fortress at Eden Park on Saturday - where the New Zealand side havent lost since the early 1990s - to try and seal a series win, Watson said it was just another stadium.
You just pitch up and play. Records are there to be broken..

Then they turned Mother Hen's chicks to birds of different colors
They're sorcerers
They might've come from the woods, to sell medicines and fruits
They're not sorcerers
Ma..
Are these guys the nomads!
Cuts, bruises, fractures, itching, fungus, anxiety, depression, fear, cough, cold, vomitting
I've medicines for all ailments
Rat trap, peacock oil, leopard nail, stone chain, everything's here

Why did you apply colour to Mother Hen's chicks
Not to get snatched away by kites and crows
You saw that too! (Laughs)
Did you understand, unwanted fear will create lot a problems
Did you get over your fear now?
It's gone..
