Waching daily Jul 3 2017

I'm Sarah Hobbs, I live in Frederick, Maryland.

I am one of the two co-chairs of the Koda2Coda committee and I went to Koda Camp from age

nine to sixteen.

I'm Christine, I'm the other co-chair of the Koda2Coda committee.

I live in Rochester, New York and I attended Koda Camp ages eight through sixteen.

My name is Michelle McQuaid.

I'm the secretary of Koda2Coda.

I am from Frederick, Maryland and I attended Koda Camp at Camp Mark 7 from ages nine through

sixteen and continued to work there for four more years as a counselor.

Hello!

My name is Christopher McQuaid and I live in Frederick, Maryland.

I am social media chair of the Koda2Coda committee and I've attended Koda camp for nine years,

from the ages of nine to sixteen.

The four of us are siblings and we all grew up going to Koda camp.

Each of us aged out of our camp program at sixteen but didn't join Coda International

until 2015.

For me, it wasn't until I was 21 that I realized that being a Coda is a lifelong experience!

Our first adult Coda event was Alan Abarbanell's Yoda Camp which was held at Camp Mark 7 in

September of 2015.

And we have gained so much from meeting Codas outside our usual camp crew.

And our picture of the Coda experience is much richer for it.

Junior members are Kodas age fifteen through eighteen.

One way of reaching part of this population is to have a presence at the first day of

Koda camps nationwide during registration process and offer junior membership to the

fifteen and sixteen year olds about to age out of the program.

Once those campers turn eighteen, they'll have the opportunity to choose one of the

adult membership options.

Should we decide in the future to go back to using our financial resources to offer stipends for Koda camp attendance,

we'll see a more direct return on investment from that money

A junior membership would benefit not only Coda International, but also its junior members.

As it stands, there are no official international organization memberships for Kodas.

So this would be the first and only of its kind.

It would also create an opportunity for junior members to stay connected with other Kodas

all around the world!

And, in the future, if the organization chose to create a webpage or a newsletter for junior

members, it could form a space for young Kodas to engage with the organization beginning

at a much younger age.

Junior membership is good for Coda International.

In fact, Strategic Goal number 2 for 2020 says that we're interested in developing and

implementing strategies to build a Koda-to-Coda pipeline.

This is that pipeline.

This is a really tangible step we can take towards achieving that goal.

Also, any organization that is interested in longevity actively needs to be recruiting

the next generation of members.

So this is what's going to give you that continuity over the next several years.

There's also kind of a comfort zone element at play for all the campers, soon-to-be-members.

They're much more likely to sign up for Coda International and attend their very first

conference at age eighteen if they know a bunch of their camp friends are going to be

doing it at the same time.

So we're kind of leveraging those relationships to grow our membership body.

Now we know junior membership is going to be a big project, um, it's going to take a

lot of coordination between different committees and member sections, but we are ready for

it.

And we think Coda International is ready too.

What Do I Say When An Employer Asks For My Visa Status? #AskCheeky - Duration: 3:45.

- Hello and welcome to another edition of Ask Cheeky.

I'm Isaiah Hankel with Cheeky Scientist,

and today's question comes from Abba Anini.

"Everywhere I apply, the employer asks if I need a visa,

"and as soon as I say I do, the conversation stops.

"What do I do?"

Very common question from international PhDs.

It might feel like you have to try twice as hard

to get a job, and in many cases,

that's the truth if you're trying

to get a job, for example, in the U.S.

And in terms of all the laws

and everything you have to follow, they're changing.

Some of them changed this year.

But, you don't want to obsess as much

as you might think over the laws,

or you certainly don't want to obsess

how much harder it is for you.

Instead, you want to focus

on the most important thing you can do for your job search,

which is getting a strong referral

from somebody who works at the company.

This, no matter what your situation is,

this is a game changer.

This will remove all barriers for you.

The reason that employers are hesitant

to hire you in the first place,

even if you already have a resident card,

even if you already have a visa,

they're hesitant because they don't know you.

On average, it costs $50,000 to $60,000 to hire somebody,

just to hire them, before you

even start paying their salary.

Very few companies, for PhD-level jobs,

want to pay $60,000 on someone they have no information

on besides their own resume, right?

They don't know you.

They don't trust you.

This makes them hesitant in general.

Now, if you add on top of that the fact

that they might have to spend extra money, right?

So they might have to spend a few thousand extra dollars now

to apply for your visa sponsorship.

It makes it even more difficult.

So, try to see it from the employer's point-of-view.

However, if somebody at the company you want to work at,

an employee, recommends you strongly, says,

"This person is a very hard worker.

"Yes, they're here from another country, but because

"of that they work even harder.

"They've left family behind to come and work.

"They're 100& dedicated.

"You have to hire this person."

If you get a referral like that,

any company will hire you, they absolutely will.

And so, you want to focus your efforts on getting referrals.

As and international PhD, you should be focused even harder

on getting referrals because the data about referrals,

it's very complete, right?

Your chances of getting a job increase by 93%

or more just by getting a referral.

It's something that only 7% of applicants get, a referral.

The rest, 93%, they're just uploading resumes.

So, you can put yourself ahead,

even as an international PhD, by getting a strong referral,

by networking, by getting to know people

who work at companies,

by setting up informational interviews.

And then when it comes time to talk to a hiring manager,

an employer, don't shy away from the fact

that you need a visa.

Be transparent, be open, tell the truth,

and turn it into a positive.

Tell them again that, yes, you are an international PhD,

but that just means you're gonna work twice as hard.

You've left family behind, you're 100% committed,

you're dedicated, you'll work long hours,

and then get educated on the different visa options

and on the different resident card options, as well.

Understand the process, understand all that paperwork

that the employer will have to fill out,

the payments they'll have to make, all of this,

because if you can explain it to them and make it seem easy

and simple because you understand it really well,

then they're much more likely to hire you, too.

So again, don't count yourself out

because you have an international PhD.

Getting a strong referral overcomes all obstacles.

This takes us to the end of this episode.

Until next time, remember your value as a PhD,

and start thinking and acting

like a successful industry professional.

Royce Ochoa-song feedback for mixing - Duration: 8:45.

hey what's going on this is Khaliq Glover and I wanted to do another little

thing to give you guys some insights on when you send me in your songs for just

some feedback or whatever so Royce Ochoa, I think that's how you say

his name, Royce sent in a song and it's a cool little ditty here that uh what's it called

"someone's always listening to you" okay or "someone's up always listening to

you" I guess it says um anyway I want to he just sent me in an mp3 so I don't

have the studio one session or Pro Tools session with individual tracks or

anything like this, this sounds like it's pretty straight ahead song it has a classic

loop that we all recognize it's been done a lot of times and he's rapped, uh

he or whoever somebody's rapping on it and everything

so I'm just gonna give you a couple of quick insights on this to maybe I you

can you know dig out some stuff and enhance the individual tracks when you

go into your session. anyway so let me play this real quick and

(music plays) ---

--- nice little effects going on in there. recognize that

drum loop. I would actually consider drying up the vocals a little bit

more. make them a little more gritty and then the other thing too that you hear

you got some nice stuff going on there so the main instrumental hook is of

course that piano (sings)

a nice eighth note bounce with the UM with that vocal

I can't sing anymore but what you hear and all that stuff back there stuff is nice

so that stuff really kind of needs to be surrounding the vocal right now the

vocal let me explain the vocal right now you need to drive the track the track is

driving the vocal vocals just kind of buried in there so even though the track

is going and everything you want to track to have that power and everything

the vocals should be pushing along with it so it needs to be a little more front

of present and everything now that doesn't necessarily mean loudness it

just needs to be more present and just kind of in your face being a little bit

of grittier and drier as well and um just so it can push the message of your

rap so that it sounds like it's driving the sound of the song instead of just

kind of being a participant but back in there. now excuse me

now there's um you know like I said some of the instruments and everything so I

did I threw a little process on the stereo I mean right on the track just to

hear you you'll get an idea of some a few things that come out now this is not

the final thing of course I would do this at the session level on individual

tracks to bring it out but listen I'm will pop in a plugin that I put on there

the vertigo plug-in and just uh check out and listen to some of the stuff that

pops out as you hear it you know listen to what happens with the keyboards what

happens to drums listen what happens the vocals out it steps out a little bit

more and like I said this is just something quick I grab to do some

general you know general things of grabbing some of the little frequencies

and then the the little saturation and stuff like that can give things a little

bit more grit. just check it out and you'll kind of hear the difference

and then just take these insights to go back into your mix and you'll hear some

of the things that oh okay I hear where it can go now, pop it on and it'll make a

thousand times better. (music plays) okay so you hear the groove now let me

pop this in

you hear how the vocals and some of them... take it back

see though the loop is a little more aggressive now not as polite listen to

the vocal needs to be up a little more [cough] listen to that keyboard and

stuff behind it and stuff need to surround it widen it out so you can also

hear when I put this in that it increases the reverb that you have on

there and everything so this is why I say decrease the reverb because when you

bring up some of those other things and everything it'll seem like there's more

reverb than actually needs to be on there and it'll help drive it a little

more you know so uh [music plays]

now I'm going to pop it in now. take it off let me put it on

exactly

now what I like about what it offers you here it doesn't have all the other stuff

so that we can hear a little bit more but but the real solution is to push the

Volkoff a little bit get a little bit more present and then get those

instruments like what's happening when I put this on I put this back

so you can hear that hook [sings]

right now the vocals are getting lost so you got to really make sure that they

drive the track. okay but if you do a couple of things like that you know get

inside the tracks and see what can get that big drums so that they don't just

kind of sit there politely they need a little bit of an edge to get on there

and this is a loop that's a classic loop that we've heard a million times so you

want to give it a little bit something that makes it sound a little more

special than just the ordinary loop you know. you might even want to play around

with processing it or something like that. but anyway the main thing the

biggest thing on this one is get the vocal up there try to vocal up a bit so

that it can stand on its own and you know listen to make sure those hooks

stay in there's a little keyboard hooks and everything maybe see if you can

widen them a bit. okay I hope that helps us to some my insights that was a stereo

track so there's no session that I could go in and show you anything on

individuals but try those things when you go back and hopefully that I'll make

it do it. then post it in the group send it to me send me an email of what you do

and let me know what kind of improvements you make and I'd love to

hear from you. anyway I hope that helps everybody I'll catch you later bye oh I

know what I meant to mention before I go too. I do all these different types of

coaching this is type of stuff I do with my one-on-one mentoring with people and

everything so if you think like you need further help you know you can give dig

in and get all these little trainings I'm gonna be dropping some things here

but if you think you need me to directly help you you got something you're

working on and you know just one-on-one will help you get to it faster rather

than you waiting for me to randomly post stuff,

hit me up go go on my calendar right there go to bookme.name forward

slash Khaliq or send me an email to khaliq@khaliq-o-vision.com and then i'll you

know let's see if we can hook up and see if and how I can help you. anyway I'll

catch you later I hope that gives you a few more insights and I'll see you on

the next one

TRX Chest Stretch for Breast Cancer Recovery - Duration: 1:33.

Hi guys, Laura Lummer here today with

another TRX tip. Today we're going to

look at the TRX chest stretch. This

stretch is amazing,

you're going to love it. It's one of my

favorites, but I think I say that about a lot

of stretches. You're going to stand facing

away from the trainer. Hold on to the

handles and bring your arms out to the

shape of the T. So the tension is very

tight there on the trainer.

You're going to step one foot

forward and then you're just going to

bend that knee forward until you feel that

opening keeping hands, tightly nice

tension on the trainer, pressing the

chest forward. Think about just drawing the

heart forward.

It's really similar to the TRX shoulder

stretch, which is down a little lower but

for the chest we're keeping our arms

out at a T. Step back. I'll show you from the

side. I'm going to face away from the

trainer, arms are at shoulder height, out

like a T. Step a foot forward

flex the front knee keeping the back

legs straight, and feel the opening as

you press the heart forward, through the

shoulders, and the chest opens up

Oh, I just want to stay here all day. Hold that for

as long as it's comfortable. Hold it

even up to a minute if you can take

that for a minute, and do it on each side.

It feels amazing!

Thanks for joining me for another TRX

Lawrence Genova, Candidate for DuPont City Council Pos. 7 - Duration: 2:37.

Hi there.

I'm Lawrence Genova

and I'm running for DuPont City Council Position 7.

I'm seeking your vote to represent you.

Whether you own a home or whether you rent a home,

whether you're active duty,

retired military,

or have no affiliation with the military,

whether you live in old DuPont

or Northwest Landing,

I want to be your voice in the council.

But let's be real here.

There are a lot of issues in this town

that historically have been very divisive.

Things like truck traffic on Center Drive,

warehouses,

ALS,

gravel mines,

skate parks and dog parks,

and even having chickens in your yard.

All these issues, past and present, have tended to divide this town.

However,

I do believe that

there are things that we can agree on.

Things like,

We do want less warehouses and more retail.

We want less traffic jams and more traffic safety.

We want to maintain our open spaces,

our trees, our sidewalks,

and basically our quality of life.

Either way,

I know that as long as I do my homework

and I seek out the input from residents

with different perspectives,

then I know that the choices that I make

as your councilmember

will be well-informed,

will be compassionate,

and will benefit the most citizens.

And I would definitely NOT disregard your input

just because you're a renter rather than a homeowner.

I'm a renter.

And considering that me and another renter

are both block leaders in our part of DuPont,

it shows that you don't need to own a home

to want to make a positive impact in your community.

So I made this video because,

although I've been meeting a lot of you

and taking in your concerns,

I realize that I might not get to meet everybody

before the primary.

So this video is really just about introducing myself

to those

I have yet to meet.

I do plan on making more of these videos

where I elaborate on the issues.

In the meantime,

just keep in mind that the primary is coming up.

So please honor me with your vote

so that I can begin working for you

Thank you very much.

Prince William's Wife Kate Middleton: Under Fire For This Parenting Fail! - Duration: 3:33.

Kate Middleton's parenting is once again under scrutiny after a supposed failure that fans

documented at Pippa's wedding last weekend.

What did the Duchess (allegedly) do so wrong?

George was spotted by paparazzi looking out the window of a moving vehicle while en route

to Pippa Middletons wedding on May 20.

But it's how he was doing so that's at issue.

By allowing three-year-old son Prince George to ride a moving car while standing and without

any seat belt on, Kate is catching flak.

While the vehicle was riding on a private road with no other cars were nearby, some

believe allowing a toddler to do this is still suspect.

Regardless of the situation, or the cars speed, royal observers (a.k.a. Twitter) think

that this was a serious oversight on Kate's part.

Moreover, the Duchess of Cambridge has also been criticized for how she reacted to her

children during Pippa's nuptials last Saturday.

Reports one observer from the wedding:

Clearly, Prince George just wanted to have fun. in the wedding party, but Kate didnt

have the time or the patience for his shenanigans."

Of course, Kate is probably scrutinized more than any mother on the planet, and commits

relatively few errors, so ... get a life people.

She could also be described as a particularly normal mom for a woman of her stature,

considering some recent remarks she made.

Earlier this year, Kate visited one of Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families

specialist units, catering to mothers with depression.

At the time, she admitted that parenting is tough for her as well, but she can't

imagine some of the hardships that they've been through.

Paying tribute to the strong women, she praised them for survive through the many hardships

and experiences [theyve] all witnessed.

Husband Prince William seems quite fond of his wife's style, recently opening up in an

interview about his two children's upbringing.

Catherine and I are clear that we want George and Charlotte to grow up feeling able

to talk about their emotions and feelings, he said.

Over the past year we have visited a number of schools."

"We have been amazed listening to children talk about some quite difficult subjects in

a really clear and emotionally articulate way."

"Something most adults would struggle with. Bottom line, at the end of the day?

Kate and Williams three-year-old first-born may have managed to step on Pippas wedding

dress and turn a confetti basket upside down.

She may struggle to control Georges screen time, much like many other parents who use

gadgets to occupy their offspring.

But her heart is in the right place.

She's doing all she can what can be often be described as an arduous and thankless job,

no matter your wealth or status.

Anyone who's observed William, Kate or their children can clearly sensed that they're being

raised well.

Perfectly?

No.

Who is, though?

Step off, haters.
