Blood from broken blood feathers or nails can be temporarily stopped by using styptic powder. When unavailable baking soda, baking powder, baking flour, corn starch all work. Apply a thick layer with a sterile gauze or sterile cotton swab and apply pressure above the broken site until the bleeding stops. Have gauzes in your freezer in a zip lock bag, applying cold gauzes to the wound will also slow down the bleeding.

When you don't have a heater, put warm water using your kitchen sink into a water bottle and put it in the same cage your bird is resting.

Humidity can be increased in a room by hanging damp towels in the same room that your bird is resting. DO NOT put damp towels in the cage itself.

Due to possible picking or any change in your bird's current condition, you may have to stay up watching your bird if the vet is only available the next morning. Get someone to help you and take turns if you can.

Start by removing the battery

Use a small flat head to start removing the front frame. Start with the corners.

Flip the laptop over to remove the frame from the hinges.

Gently start to remove the frame off of the screen. Be gentle as there is glue holding the screen to the frame.

Once the frame is off, remove the four screws in each corner.

Pull the screen down and notice the 40 pin connector. Gently lift the tape covering the connector, but not all the way.

Take a small flat head and pull up the small metal latch that is holding down the connector, then gently detach the 40 pin connector from the screen.

Remove the old screen and prepare the new one

Re connect the 40 pin connector making sure that it is fully engaged. The click wont be very audible but you should be able to feel it.

Use your flat head to push the metal latch back down.

Position the screen back into place

Have a friend hold it into place as you screw the four corners.

Put the frame back into place and make sure it is properly snapped back in.

Run your fingers around the frame to make sure the glue re applies.

Return the battery.

Power on to test your hard work.

Concrete is the second-most used materials in the world, after water.

Largely a non-renewable resource with a heavy environmental footprint, the race is on for

industry to find a sustainable solution to cement production.

The production of cement uses huge amounts of energy and resources.

The production of one tonne of cement produces approx. one tonne of carbon dioxide.

We need to determine alternative sustainable options.

That means using industry waste as a raw material, which bypasses the high temperature process.

Fly ash, a by-product of a coal fired power station, is an excellent option.

To lessen the environmental impact of cement production, USQ researchers saw the opportunity

to use fly ash to create a more sustainable concrete.

This is a block of geopolymer concrete.

To create it, we mix fly ash with an activator to produce geopolymer.

The reaction occurs at a room temperature, completely bypassing the high temperature

process of making cement, which in turn saves a lot of energy."

Geopolymer concrete has the same performance as ordinary Portland cement concrete.

In some areas it is even better.

All these attributes give geopolymer concrete the potential to be a sustainable alternative

to traditional concrete, which industry is calling for.

From our perspective, as a large-scale commercial producer of concrete, if geopolymer is viable,

it is the way forward.

That is why we're working with USQ research to develop this more sustainable product to

change the way the world makes concrete and deliver millions of tonnes less of CO2.

EastEnders bosses face backlash from stars after extra is axed for stealing another actor's phone

EASTENDERS bosses have axed an extra after he was caught stealing a fellow actors phone behind the scenes of Albert Square.

The man had been working on the BBC soap for years but he was dropped by producers when they found a phone that belonged to another actor in his sock. An EastEnders extra was sacked after stealing a phone.

Stars of the show now fear for the safety of their belongings, and have taken fresh steps to keep their valuables safe.

A source said: The man had taken the sim out but the phone had a tracking device and he was caught with it in his sock.

He denied he stole it but if you take the sim out and have it down your sock, youre not giving it back. But now all the extras are worried about their belongings.

Some of the extras have taken to taking their phones with them on set.

Stars are now demanding lockers for their valuable. The incident is said to have happened a few months ago and the thief was also dropped by the casting agency that employed him.

He is said to have taken it when the actor had taken left their phone off set as stars are not allowed to have them when they are filming.

The extra initially denied he had stolen the phone.

Stars are now worried about their own fans. The source said: "He was chucked off the show, the agency dumped him.

"All the extras leave their phones in what I can only describe is like a garden shed because theyre not allowed to take phones on set because if it goes off it ruins the scene.

Some of the extras are demanding lockers and are taking their phones on set. A spokeswoman for EastEnders said: "We never comment on individual matters such as these however EastEnders would always take appropriate action if necessary.
