Hello, my name is Allet Krug and I'm a senior application engineer at Hosokawa Micron B.V.
Hosokawa Micron B.V. is a manufacturer of mixing, drying and agglomeration equipment.
Today I would like to tell you something about our mixers.
In our mixing portfolio we've got low shear mixers
like our famous Vrieco-Nauta mixer, which is used for free-flowing powders,
for segregative powders and for pastes.
We've got mid-shear mixers and high shear mixers.
High shear mixers are being used for mixing cohesive powders.
Cohesive powders are powders which have inter-particle forces
which are keeping the particles together like magnets.
In order to break up those structures energy is needed.
For these powders our Cyclomix can be used.
This is our 5 litre Cyclomix, which means 5 litres of product.
The working principle of the Cyclomix is as follows:
It has got a central driven rotor, driven from the top.
The rotor will rotate at a speed of approximately 30 m/s.
At this speed the powder is being pushed outwards, due to the centrifugal forces.
Due to the angle in the vessel the product is climbing upwards
and is guided by the cover downwards again.
At the vessel wall we've got high shear forces
which is like rubbing your hands, you introduce heat.
That's why it can be equipped with a cooling jacket at the vessel and at the cover
in order to cool down there where the heat is being generated.
With the high shear forces at the vessel wall, a rolling effect of particles occurs.
This effect is being used in order to coat raw toner particles
with flow additives and charge controlling agents.
We will make a mixture of a white powder and iron oxide.
This mixture is ready in 30 seconds.
Due to the conical vessel it's easy to discharge the product.
The Cyclomix is successfully being used in for example
the ceramic, polymer, battery, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry.
