2 Sheriff's Deputies honored for heroic action - Duration: 2:22.

THIS MORNING, TWO SHERIFF'S

DEPUTIESS WERE HONORED AS ALLEN

COUNTY'S

EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR.

WE'VE BEEN FOLLOWING THEIR

STORIES FROM THE VERY BEGINNING

MORE THAN A YEAR AGO.

NEWSCHANNEL 15'S HANNAH STRONG

JOINS US NOW IN STUDIO 15 TO

SHOW US

WHAT THESE BRAVE MEN DID TO

DESERVE THIS AWARD.

LAST JANUARY, LESS THAN TWO

WEEKS APART, DEPUTYS AMSTUTZ AND

LITZENBERG PUT THEIR OWN SAFETY

AT RISK TO HELP OTHERS.

"I JUST HAPPENED TO LOOK UP,

LOOK DOWN THE ROAD, AND SAW TWO

VEHICLES COMING AT ME.

I SAW THE REAR VEHICLE LOSE

CONTROL AND START

TO SLIDE.

THEN I SAW IT FLIP INTO THE

DITCH."

"I REALIZED THAT IT WAS FILLING

UP WITH WATER.

SO THE WATER STARTED

COMING UP TO MY CHEST AND I WAS

VERY SCARED."

"THE VEHICLE WAS ON IT'S TOP.

I GOT IN THE WATER, ATTEMPTED

TO GAIN

ENTRY.

THE DOORS WERE LOCKED, ALL THE

WINDOWS WERE CLOSED."

DEPUTY AMSTUTZ BROKE A BACK

WINDOW, PULLED THE WOMAN TO

SAFETY, AND PUT HER IN HIS SQUAD

CAR UNTIL AN AMBULANCE COULD

ARRIVE.

"I'M NOT SPECIAL.

ANY OF THE

OFFICERS WOULD'VE DONE THE SAME

THING."

"I'M NOT GOING TO FORGET ABOUT

IT BECAUSE HE WAS SO BRAVE."

LIKE DEPUTY AMSTUTZ, DEPUTY

LITZENBERG HAPPENED TO BE IN THE

RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME.

"I ACTUALLY SAW THE CAR SLIDE

ANOTHER 3-4 INCHES DOWN TOWARDS

THE MIDDLE OF THE POND.

YOU KNOW

YOUR HEART JUST SINKS." A MAN

DRIVING BY AND SEVERAL

NEARBY CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ALL

STOPPED TO HELP

STABILIZE THE CAR WHILE DEPUTY

LITZENBERG BROKE A WINDOW.

"IT'S A GOOD FEELING TO LOOK

AROUND AND REALIZE THAT 6

OTHER STRANGERS DROPPED

EVERYTHING THEY WERE DOING AND

RAN TO HELP SOMEBODY THEY HAVE

NO CLUE WHO HE IS.

IT REALLY

DOES RESTORE YOUR FAITH IN

PEOPLE."

"THOSE PEOPLE WERE RIGHT THERE

WHEN I NEEDED THEM, TOO.

THEY

WERE HELPING ME AS MUCH AS I WAS

HELPING THEM."

THE MAN HE SAVED WAS AT THIS

MORNING'S CEREMONY.

HE HASN'T SPOKEN ABOUT WHAT

HAPPENED UNTIL TODAY.

AND HE ONLY TALKED WITH

NEWSCHANNEL 15.

"AS SOON AS WE MADE EYE CONTACT,

I KNEW I WAS IN GOOD SHAPE.

IT WAS

CLOSE.

IT WAS REAL, REAL CLOSE.

I'M STILL AFFECTED BY IT.

IT'S HUMBLING."

"HE'S ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR US.

I WAS REALLY PROUD THAT HE GOT

ASSIGNED TO LEO-CEDARVILLE."

"I'LL TELL YOU WHAT I AM ONE

PROUD

SHERIFF TODAY." "I WAS JUST

GLAD THAT I WAS WHERE I

WAS AT THAT I COULD MAKE A

DIFFERENCE."

"IT WAS A GOOD FEELING THAT DAY.

THINGS WENT RIGHT."

amazing herb for a healthy brain and

it's better function it cleans the body

and prevents cancer these blue-green

algae appeared more than three billion

years ago and they are the first known

form of life on Earth their development

was of the utmost importance for the

further evolution of life as we know it

the importance of these algae in the

diet has been known to people around the

world for thousands of years earliest

civilizations including Aztec and

African tribes used the blue-green algae

is an additional source of the much

needed proteins the natural habitat of

the flower ghee is situated at an

altitude of 2,000 meters in the clean

and untouched klamath lake in North

America because of the mineral rich

environment the water that comes from

geothermal and volcanic sources is

responsible for their special

nutritional composition what makes a

flower G so unique fo algae are

primarily made up of soft proteins and

polysaccharides they are easily

digestible and contain more than 20

natural antioxidants 68 minerals and 70

trace elements they are an excellent

source of beta-carotene and a number of

B vitamins they also include iron zinc

selenium magnesium 20 amino acids and

important enzymes in high amounts

these algae improved the health of all

human organs the more our food is

processed the poorer it becomes in

minerals the key to the lack of minerals

is the introduction of untouched wild

food in our daily diet which enters

directly into our blood in cells so

algae are a natural untouched food that

toxins and heavy metals and removes them

from the body thus it protects against

many diseases associated with the

presence of heavy metals including

cancer they feed your brain the ability

of the brain for the manufacture of

Augusta looks for ways to pay for Cyber Center parking deck - Duration: 3:13.

JOHN HART:

AUGUSTA PREPARES TO PITCH IN TO

BRING THE

CYBER TRAINING CENTER TO

DOWNTOWN.

EARLIER THIS YEAR, IT WAS

ANNOUNCED THE STATE

WOULD BE MAKING A FIFTY MILLION

DOLLAR INVESTMENT TO

CREATE THE GEORGIA CYBER

INNOVATION AND TRAINING

CENTER AT THE OLD GOLF AND

GARDENS.

THE STATE HAS PUT THE PROJECT ON

THE FAST TRACK

WITH THE GOAL OF OPENING IN JULY

OF NEXT YEAR.

JOHN HART:

COUNT ON WJBF NEWSCHANNEL SIXES

GEORGE ESKOLA- HE'S LIVE IN

OUR NEWSROOM AND GEORGE--- THIS

IS CONSIDERED TO BE A BOOM FOR

AUGUSTA--- ONE AUGUSTA IS

EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE TO.

GEORGE ESKOLA:

RIGHT, TURNING AUGUSTA INTO THE

SILICON VALLEY OF THE SOUTH WILL

BRING IN

TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN

INVESTMENTS AND HUNDEDS OF JOBS,

AND SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF

THE FACILITY AT THE GOLF AND

GARDENS

THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF TALK ABOUT

STATE'S CONTRIBUTION AND VERY

LITTE ABOUT

WHAT THE CITY IS EXPECTED TO DO,

BUT IF YOU'RE BRINGING HUNDREDS

DOWNTOWN THEY'LL NEED SOMEWHERE

TO PARK, AND PAYING FOIR A

PARKING DECK IS WHAT THE CITY IS

PLANNING TO DO.

GEORGE:

TO TRANSFORM THE OLD GOLF AND

GARDENS TO A WORLD CLASS CYBER

FACILITY,

THE STATE IS INVESTING 50

MILLION DOLLARS, AND THE STATE

SAYS AUGUSTA

NEEDS TO SET A SIDE A FEW

MILLION DOLLARS OF ITS OWN FOR

PARKING.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR JACKSON:

RIGHT NOW THERE'S LOOKING AT A

PARKING DECK OF APPROXIMATELY

400

TO 500 SPACES I UNDERSTAND THAT

NUMBER COULD CHANGE AS WELL

GEORGE:

THE DECK PARKING SHOULDN'T BE A

SURPRISE, THE REQUEST FOR

PROPOSALS FROM THE GEORGIA

TECHNOLOGY AUTHORITY CALLS FOR A

500 SPACE PARKING DECK AND THE

PROPOSALS SAYS AUGUSTA WILL PAY

FOR IT.

BUT BACK IN THE MIDDLE OF

FEBRUARY GOVERNOR DEAL CAME TO

TOWN BUT

THERE WAS NO MENTION THAT OF

AUGUSTA WOULD PAY 10 TO 12

MILLION DOLLARS FOR A PARKING

DECK.

COMMISSIONER FRANTOM:

HE WANTED AUGUSTA TO HAVE SOME

SKIN IN THE GAME AND THAT IS

WHAT THEY'VE ASKED FOR WHEN DID

YOU FIND OUT THE CITY IS GOING

TO ASK FOR

THIS I THINK WE'VE KNOWN SINCE

THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY I

THINK.

GEORGE:

THOUGH AUGUSTA WILL BE

RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DECK THERE'S

STILL A LOT OF QUESTIONS.

WE DON'T KNOW HOW WE'RE GOING TO

FUND IT YET WE DON'T KNOW WHO'S

GOING

TO OWN THE DECK.

GEORGE:

SO HOW DOES THE CITY PLAN TO PAY

FOR IT. WE'VE GOT SOME OTHER

OPTIONS LOOKING AT SOME OTHER

FUNDING

SOURCES BOND FINANCING SO

THERE'S SOME FEW OTHER OPTIONS

WE'RE

CONSIDERING...

GEORGE:

BUT DOES THE CITY REALLY NEED TO

SPEND MILLIONS ON ANOTHER

PARKING

DECK.

THE 11 MILLION DOLLARS REYNOLD

STREET DECK THE CITY BUILT IS

JUST TWO

BLOCKS AWAY.

BUT JACKSON SAYS THE REYNOLDS

STREET DECK WILL SEE MORE USE AS

NEW HOTELS MOVE DOWNTOWN.

ADMINISTRATOR:

TC 16:04 IT MAY LOOK LIKE A BIT

OF AN OVERBUILD RIGHT NOW IF

THINGS MATERIALIZE

THE WAY WE EXPECT THE NEXT THREE

TO FIVE YEARS I THINK WE'LL BE

HAPPY WE MADE THE DECISION TO

ADD MORE PARKING TO DOWNTOWN

AUGUSTA.

GEORGE ESKOLA:

AUGUSTA USED TEN MILLION

DOLLARS FROM ITS RESERVES TO

DEMOLISH GILBERT

MANOR TO MAKE WAY FOR THE A-U

DENTAL SCHOOL, AND PAID IT'S

SELF BACK

WITH SALES TAX MONEY

BUT ADMINISTRATOR JACKSON

DISMISSED USING RESERVES FOR THE

PARKING DECK,

THE CITY IS ON A TIGHT SCHEDULE

THE STATE WANTS THE PARKING DECK

UNDERWAY BY

THE END OF MAY, JACKSON SAID

COMMISSIONERS SHOULD MAKE A

DECISION ON FUNDING IT IN THE

NEXT FOUR TO SIX WEEKS.

THERE WAS A

LATE NIGHT VOTE LAST NIGHT IN

SOMETHING THAT

SUPPOSEDLY EVERYONE IS

FOR...BUT THE VOTE WAS 9 TO 8,

STRICTLY ALONG

ALL THE

REPUBLICANS VOTING AGAINST IT.

IN DECEMBER

OF 2015, THE 'LOCKBOX' PASSED

UP IN THE HOUSE

THE "LOCKBOX" MUST PASS BOTH

THE HOUSE AND SENATE BY A

"NOTHING STOPS THE STREAM OF

IT IS NOT THE SAFETYNET THAT

IT'S PURPORTED TO BE."

SOME

AT THE CAPITOL HAVE SAID TOLLS

ARE INEVITABLE BECAUSE

THE STATE'S

TRANSPORATION FUND IS

PROJECTED TO BE IN THE

RED WITHIN A COUPLE

OF YEARS..

BUT WITHOUT GETTING VOTER

APPROVAL FOR THE 'LOCKBOX' IT'S

UNLIKELY

ANY NEW FUNDING SOURCE COULD

Yes, as a cop.

Now, will you please leave my room?

I'm very tired, and I need to get some rest--

Educating for Nevada's Future - Duration: 4:44.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

- The need for teachers is a nationwide.

We need quality teachers, and here in Clark County in Nevada,

in particular, we have high demand

for really strong teachers.

- Clark County needs great teachers,

and we need to go out there and get the hands-on practice.

And that's what Nevada State offers you.

- The difference with Nevada State

is that I took classes at elementary schools,

so my field observation hours were done at the schools I

was going to every single week.

So the luxury here is I think I was

at four or five elementary schools prior

to finishing my degree.

So the fact that I was able to have

a presence on these campuses and get, you know,

a feel for these kids and what they need, it was amazing.

- And there's a lot of flexibility with scheduling.

So if you are working full time, a lot of the courses

are offered either online or in the evening.

And then, the opposite is true if you

want to have more of those daytime classes,

you can have that opportunity as well.

- I really like the nighttime classes here,

because I may want to do something during the day

and kind of apply whatever I learned the night before.

- Another benefit of NSC is really just the instructors.

I think our expertise in different fields

really lends itself to a pretty well-rounded teacher

and student and really allows for opportunity

to get that expertise.

- The teachers at Nevada State college were wonderful.

They each had different teaching styles,

but you were able to pull something from each of them.

- The professors are different from other schools.

They seem to be more involved in our education.

If we have any questions, they replied to our emails

super quickly.

And they want us to know that if we ever need help,

even when we graduate, they're going to be there for us,

and they can assist you with anything we need.

- The faculty that I've met in the School of Education

have been very supportive, and they offer a lot of advice

on what to do next and how to move forward.

- This just feels like sort of more

of a family, atmosphere just smaller and more welcoming.

I would encourage anyone to give it a try.

And I think financially it's affordable.

- I live in a big city, but I've always kind

of yearn for a small town feel, and you kind of

have that small town feel with Nevada State College.

You know, small class sizes, and just the best professors

here in the School of Education.

- And because we are such a large district,

we know that our graduates may not

get the intensive support that they need,

so I also run the NEST program.

NEST is New Educators Support and Training.

It's unique to Nevada State graduates.

We get together once a month, and we just

talk about what's going on in their classrooms, what

are areas that we can support, and it's a safe place.

It's a place where they don't have to worry about judgment,

that they're all new teachers in the same boat.

- So the NEST program has been very beneficial to come to,

because it's helped us with the new NEPF framework

that new teachers, or any teacher

now needs to know in order to get their evaluations.

So they really went in depth at what

is necessary to be teaching and what your admin is looking for.

- With the NEST program you don't

feel like you've graduated and you're on your own.

You'll always have that support, whether it

be the smallest problem to the biggest

thing with making a lesson.

- I think a great aspect of NSC is, yes, you

can get your degree here, you can go back into the community

that you may be from, but then you're

also going to receive support from the place

that you graduated.

- The things that I really like about teaching

is seeing the growth of my students.

Especially in kindergarten, at the beginning of the year

they want to know whether they're going to take naps

and when is snack time, and not being

able to walk in a line to reading at the end of the year.

- I'm a first grade teacher at Halle Hewetson Elementary

School.

I grew up in this neighborhood.

I attended this school for third grade.

If somebody was coming into teaching, I would say do it.

At the end of the day, it really does pay off

when you just see the light bulb go on, and you really do see,

oh, he's getting it, he's learning it.

The dream is dead.

Say goodbye to the Schmidt Charitable Trust.

Yeah, I don't know what that is.

But is that why you were throwing

light bulbs against our garage?

That was unrelated.

Oh.

It's the foundation that I was going

to establish to take the Schmidt brand to the next level.

But now I can't.

The name is taken.

What?

Get a load of that.

The Schmidt Charitable Trust was

established in 1948 by Cranston Schmidt

to promote nudity in restaurants.

Cranston Schmidt and his naked waitresses!

What am I supposed to do now?

How can I show my peers that I make

so much money that I could just throw it away on strangers?

There is one way that you could maybe solve your problem.

What?

You could use your first name.

What did you say?

You are not a frat boy drinking out of a keg anymore.

OK?

You are an executive now.

You're a baller.

I am a baller.

Also, I was never allowed in frats.

Too much hazing that required a visible penis.
