Waching daily Apr 11 2017

So this video today is coming from this place that

I've been thinking a lot about,

why I decided to come on at Lumogram,

and take on this crazy idea of doing this daily vlog.

A lot of people have asked me, "Why did you do this?"

"What are you getting out of it?

And I think it's a good question.

I think a lot of filmmakers, being presented with

this opportunity, would maybe think,

"Why would you do that?" 🤔

"Why would you chose to do daily content,

where you don't have the time to make something perfect?

I wanted to address it because

I've been thinking about it a lot.

When Lumogram came to me,

Tyler and Mike specifically,

and started talking to me about this possible

opportunity of coming into Lumogram,

and documenting the process of what's going on

behind the scenes, and putting out a daily YouTube show,

I'd been working in the same building as these guys

for a long time, so I knew that

they were interesting people, and I knew Lumogram was

up to some interesting things.

But for me, thinking about,

"How am I going to tell a fresh story every day?"

It's going to be a challenge.

But there's this other side of me who's interested in

film making, but also I've always come from a place of

submersive ... just putting myself into an environment,

and that's why I got into film making in the first place,

So, for me,

part of the decision to come onboard was the challenge

of making fresh content every day,

and pushing myself to become a better film maker,

but the other part of it,

and the more interesting part for me,

was to put myself in an environment where

there's this group of entrepreneurs that really believes

in the product they're building, and in what they're doing.

I was really excited by the idea of being inside

of a startup, every day, and seeing how it works,

seeing how decisions are made,

seeing how a small group of people

overcome this huge challenge of trying to build a product,

and manage expectations,

and grow, and bring on people.

It's a world that I've always been interested in,

and I haven't really had an opportunity to

be thrown into that environment, so

as excited as I was for the film making side of it,

I was also so excited about being in this environment,

that's so 'make or break,' 'do or die,'

and this group of people is so passionate about what

they're building, and I knew that

if I was excited about being in this environment,

then, through my experience,

other people would find interest in it as well.

Hopefully watching this experience helps people

avoid mistakes, or see, "There's other people out there

struggling with the same things I'm struggling with

as a business person."

I feel compelled to talk about this because

as a film maker, and I know there are other film makers out there

who are struggling to figure out your next project,

and what kind of themes to tackle,

and what stories to tell,

I had to look at this and say,

"I'm not going to get an opportunity

to do something like this again.

And I have to hop on board because

if I don't, I'll miss out on a really positive opportunity

to be part of something unique."

So....

I'm glad I did! It's been a difficult challenge at times,

to figure out how to stay on top of this,

how to do daily content,

and be in an environment where

I don't thrive, and I don't know all the answers.

Sometimes you just have to push through that fear,

step into the new challenge,

and tackle it head on.

That's what we've been doing, and it's amazing.

We grow every day because of it.

I've learned a lot so far, and I'm excited to just keep going.

How Online Advertising Is Tricking Your Thoughts, Attitudes, and Beliefs | Tristan Harris - Duration: 5:30.

So we always had an attention economy, whether it was on radio or television there's always

been a race for our attention and it's a zero sum game.

If one TV station gets more of your attention the other TV station gets less.

But now because we're spending more and more time on screens and there's so many things

competing for our attention we really feel it.

And in the attention economy with social media and with the Internet and our screens, everything

needs your attention.

So a meditation app, the New York Times, Big Think or Facebook—they're still all competing

for the same currency, which is attention.

And if one guy gets more attention someone else gets less.

As an example, the CEO of Netflix recently said that the biggest competitors to Netflix

weren't other video sites, he said the biggest competitors to Netflix were Facebook, YouTube

and sleep, because at the end of the day it all comes from this limited supply of attention

that we get.

And part of that is because of advertising.

Because the business model of advertising says I don't just want some of your attention,

I actually make more money the more attention I get from you.

So I have an unbounded appetite for more of your attention.

And the problem is that as each factor in the attention economy, whether it's a meditation

app or it's Snapchat or it's Facebook or Netflix, they start ratcheting up more and more persuasive

design choices to stick us to the product for longer and to keep us coming back, to

addict us even.

And the problem is it becomes this race to the bottom, where the lower I go on the brainstem

at getting you to click and stay, the lower someone else has to go.

So when YouTube ads auto play the next video Netflix has to auto play the next video too

otherwise they lose out on their attention market share.

And so in this zero sum game what we really need to talk about is how do we reorganize

the attention economy so it actually aligns with what we want?

Almost like redesigning the urban plan of a city, it's not about leaving this polluted

city, it's how can we reorganize the city so it's livable again?

How do we create zoning laws so that Netflix competes with other entertainment?

How do I help each of us get the best two hours of downtime?

And that's different than meditation apps that are competing for how to help people

wake up in the morning.

Imagine that those are different zones, both in app stores and on our phones so that it's

really about helping us, competing to help us live our lives not competing just to get

the most attention.

So, why should we be questioning advertising?

This is such a huge deal.

Because advertising has, up until this point, propped up much of the tech industry's economy.

It's been the cheapest and easiest way to grow and scale a business because you can

always figure out new ways of getting attention, and you can find new ways of getting more

money per eyeball that spends time with you.

But the costs of it are really just too big, because in a world where I've got your eyeball

(and I'm Facebook) and I've got actually a billion of these eyeballs, and I'm asking,

"Who wants to pay me the most to put a message in front of this eyeball?", and in a world

where I give that person personal information that would tell them exactly how to persuade

this person (and they can persuade them with anything that they want because they know

exactly, as for example, with companies like Cambridge Analytica which knew exactly how

to persuade you politically), I would be enabling whoever wants to pay me the most to manipulate

and influence this person's mind.

And in a world that's more and more persuasive where we know more and more about what influences

this person, the ability to simply sell to the highest better whoever wants to persuade

them undermines something really fundamental about what of our institutions are based on.

A market is based on a person making a conscious choice to buy or transact.

When you can undermine or manipulate the thoughts and attitudes and beliefs of that person then

that's really not something we can stand on anymore.

In an election where people have their own thoughts, opinions, beliefs and ideas about

a candidate or about a policy—or not even, just about how much they hate each other—and

that can be manipulated, then the foundation of an election or a democracy is also questionable.

And so in a world that's more and more persuasive, where it's more about persuasion than it is

about advertising, what is the ethically persuasive world that we want to live in?

In a world that is on a one way track getting better and better at persuading our minds

to believe, feel and have different opinions than we would have had—because it can personalize

exactly and tailor exactly messages that would sway us—how do we live in that world when

so much of our institutions depend on us having sovereign minds and sovereign ideas and the

ability to democratically talk to each other about what the right answer might be?

So we need to question the business model of advertising in the way that it affects

that economy.

IP PoE Network Clocks and Speakers - Duration: 4:04.

Hello John Chomko here wanted to give

you an overview of our IP-PoE

communications products. Now, if you have

wired ethernet at your facility then

these products can not only help you in

your day-to-day operations but also

during emergency. First of all we offer

network clocks. I have a digital and analog

on display here you can see. i have

an ethernet cable plugged into the

digital clock that ethernet cable is a

PoE cable so therefore it's providing

not only power but accurate reliable

time to the clock. The Analog clock the same

thing it's getting its time via the

software. The clock monitoring software

that comes with our network clocks that

clock monitoring software allows you to

designate a time zone for certain clocks.

Therefore and to show you guys I set up

this for the west coast time and this

for the east coast time. They're still

synchronized they're exactly three hours

off. Next if you need a bell system or an

alert system this is the perfect device

for you. It is called our network relay

controller, What it has is a LAN or PiE

connection. The software that you get

with this device will run on a PC that's

on that LAN you have this

connected to. If you have a LAN

connection then you're going to provide

AC power. If you have a PoE connection

you'll just plug the cable into here and

that will provide the power for the

device. Underneath this cover is four

contacts where you wire your

buzzer or horn or your bells or Bell to.

Once they are wired to there you will go

into your software put in your schedule in

and then you'll activate the bell or

buzzer at the scheduled time. Next we

have our PoE Amp Receiver. The PoE amp

receiver does two functions. One it

provides an audio out to an audio in on

a PA system. Let's say you have an

existing PA system and you want to play

scheduled tones or events over that PA

system this device will do that for you

from its audio out to its line in on

your PA system. It also the second

function is you can connect speakers to

this so let's just say you want to

connect outdoor speakers to your indoor

speakers so that you have indoor and

outdoor. These are all PoE. This speaker

will be placed outside it will be wired

to the PoE Amp Receiver which will sit

inside and then the PoE Amp Receiver has

a LAN connection to it and it will plug

into your LAN and your software will

reside on a PC on that LAN so that you

can play scheduled events or live

broadcasts. Next we have our network

emergency switches. We have a three

button switch and we have a single

switch as you can see the LAN or PoE

connection. Again if it's a LAN

connection you'll have to provide power.

Once this button is pushed

it will activate the event that you want

to occur maybe on message boards you

want it to display LOCKDOWN that will

happen or you want a buzzer to ring

whatever the event you want to occur it

will happen when this button is pushed.

That is a quick overview of our IP-PoE

communication products. Our sale

executives are very skilled in each one

of these products please give us a call.

Bernie Sanders Is Still The Most Popular US Politician, And His Policies Are Popular, Too - Duration: 3:47.

For the second time in one month, a new poll has come out showing that Bernie Sanders,

the Independent senator from Vermont, is the most popular politician in the United States

with over a 75% approval rating.

Now again, this is the second poll so this isn't very shocking to anybody that's been

paying attention.

But in the last week, Bernie Sanders has also announced that he is going to start a Bernie

Sanders Show podcast that's going to air online to help get young people, young politically

active people, more active in American politics.

To keep them informed.

To keep the ground swell of support that he gained during the primaries moving forward

and having people use that energy for something positive.

This is not about Bernie Sanders.

This is about the people that he has inspired.

He wanted to continue inspiring them and that's what he's doing with this podcast.

But here's another interesting poll that also came out today.

As it turns out, it's not just Bernie Sanders himself who is popular and it's not because

he's Bernie Sanders that he is popular.

The reason he is popular is because the ideas that he is supporting, the legislation that

he is proposing, are insanely popular among the American public, Democrats and Republicans,

Trump voters, Independents, Libertarians.

They overwhelmingly support the policies that Bernie Sanders is proposing.

For example, poll shows that the majority of Trump voters and Democrats and Republicans

actually support a Medicare for all system in the United States where we could opt to

buy into a government sponsored healthcare plan rather than purchasing from private insurance.

The private insurance option would still be there if you want to do that but there would

also be a government option that you could buy into.

The majority of people support that.

Bernie Sanders is trying to make that a reality.

In addition, the majority support debt-free college education at public colleges around

the United States.

Well, Bernie Sanders proposed legislation just last week to do that.

They also support the importation of cheaper, safer prescription drugs from other countries

to help lower the cost here in the United States.

Again, another initiative that Bernie Sanders is working on.

So for all those Democratic establishment types who supported Hilary Clinton, who are

still out there today trashing Bernie Sanders, saying that he's got some kind of cult following,

that he's ... It's hip.

You know, you're like the hipsters of the political world if you support him.

Trashing him, saying that he's selfish, in this only for himself.

I suggest you look at the legislation that this man is actually proposing.

This isn't about him.

It's literally about everyone else.

And that's what's unique about Bernie Sanders.

That's why he is so popular.

People do not see him as a selfish figure.

They seem him as someone who is genuinely trying to help American citizens.

Something that we don't see in other politicians very often in the United States.

We see that in Bernie.

And Bernie is out there trying to make a difference, not for himself, but for everyone else in

this country.

That's why he's the most popular senator, most popular politician in the United

States today.
