Alright guys coach Adrian here and
this is another Brute Shoot. Today we are
talking about being overly excited that
you didn't make regionals this year I
know that sounds backwards I know that
might sound like a far-fetched like why
would people be excited that they didn't
make regionals coach but I'm going to
tell you right now my inbox is full of
hundreds of emails from the past two
weeks of people that are like "Coach, I
didn't make it this is what i'm going to
do and i'm just starting this week and
I'm going to rip the head off of a baby
imma do whatever I have to do to make it
to regionals. i'll be at the CrossFit
Games next year." Now here's the problem
we're 52 weeks from the qualification
process of CrossFit regionals, next year.
Slow your roll people okay I don't mean
to steal your flare all right like take
some buzz off of the the killing pain
that you're experiencing because you
because you didn't make your goals this
year but what I want you to do is
honestly have a big broad picture or
perspective of what it's going to take
to make that happen. Every year this
happens where athletes are excited and
they're fired up and they're ready to go
and what's it lead to? It leads to this
consistent burnout feeling that you
often run into not in the summer because
guess what you're watching athletes go
to regionals, you're watching athletes go
to the CrossFit Games and you're like
that's going to be me, that's going to be
me. So your burnouts not there, it's not
even like just at the end of summer when
like we're getting ready to watch or
experience the team series or getting
ready to watch people go to the
invitational in CrossFit, like it
really gets you fired up or maybe the
games even start to air but it's like as
the fall starts to trickle in and the
season start to change, the temperature
drops in most of the states in the
United States here. People start to lose
that that that buzz right they start to
lose that excitement and what that is
initially from is a lack of assessment
early in the offseason for where they
need to go okay so what we're
instructing most of our athletes to do
is to take a step back right now and
this is a really important time we want
to go through a deload and we want to go
through a reload. What that looks like is
we're literally going to take some steps
back in the intensity of your training
and the volume of your training we're
going to slow you down a bit, we're
going to have you chomping at the bit
just wanting to literally train and
train hard and we're going to ask that
during that time you actually focus on
the limiters that set you back this year,
take an honest assessment of yourself,
you know swallow some hard truths and
figure out what we need to change going
forward. During the reload period we're
taking two to three weeks and we're going to
start to slowly ramp things back up that
might look like a bunch of temple style
lifting where we're going to help
strengthen and stabilize through joints
we're going to strengthen and create
more elasticity through some connective
tissue but we're gonna work on gaining
muscle and strength to none of those
things are going to go ignored and then
we're going to be back to the to the
square one where we're going to start to
establish a broad base of strength we're
going to start to really really work the
skills gymnastics wise they became
limiters for many of you and we're going
to really develop a broad aerobic base
of conditioning after that through the
offseason we're going to start piecing
things back together and it will start
to look a lot more like CrossFit which
is clearly the season that we're
preparing for but if you're one of those
athletes out there right now that is so
fired up that you're out there doing
triples and doubles and quadruple
sessions in a day but you really have no
idea where that training is going to
take you I'm instructing you right now
to stop, take a step back, and realize where
you need to be four months from now
realize where you need to be six months
from now in order to have success in
2018 otherwise you're just going to be
another guy who made a bunch of great
games during the summer ended up getting
injured, ended up getting burnout and
then you're nowhere or nowhere to be
seen and no one's talking about you come
the spring of 2018. So if you don't want
to do that take a step back, take a
couple deep breaths, maybe take a few
days off of your training, reach out to
us, ask some questions that you're
curious about if this Brute Shoot like
brings on some curiosities and things
that you don't know about your own
training and do I even have a big macro
picture for where I'm going what are the
my macrocycles look or micro-cycles look
throughout the year in order to help get
me there if you need guidance reach out
to us. It's a great time for you to be
doing research on leadership, research on
coaching, research on philosophies, on
maybe what fits you as an athlete it's
going to help meet your goals but the
big time and then the main goal that I
want you to have for this time of the
offseason is simply deload, reload and
assess. So don't overdo it this time of
year Brutes, we get a long time to go a
lot of planning ahead of us and
a lot of training to get done in the
meantime.
