Hi this is Shawn Bradford with Breathe &
Work and Breathe & Sell, back to give
you another mindful selling tip to grow
your business, and attract more clients.
So today's tip is all about the real
deal behind starting and running a
business. So I got this idea after I had
posted a few really cool photos of my
work on Instagram. I had some photos of
conducting really cool wellness
workshops, mindful workshops, and teaching
yoga at a resort and I had somebody
comment saying you have the best job in
the world and the answer is yes, thank
you I do, and I've created that. However I
wanted to take a moment to share four
truths that I've learned to running and
starting a business that I hope you find
helpful and can apply to your own
business. All right truth number one, it
is a lot of work but when you're
aligning your passions with this amazing
career that you create for yourself, it
is worth it because that passion is
behind it in everything you do. I
actually have another video, I'll put a
link below about creating your mission
statement for life and for work based
upon your values and my dear friend Alex,
I'll put his information below as well,
is turning that into a piece of art for
me so that it will be hung in my office!
And right now I look at that every day,
the rough draft and it really motivates
me every time I'm feeling a little low
on self-discipline. So again the real
deal and I'll get into some details here,
is that running a business, starting a
business is a lot of work. So behind all
of those cool photos are endless hours
in this office by myself, making phone
call after phone call. I could some days
make 20, 30, 40, 50 phone calls each and
every day and half, nobody ever answers
another half, nobody ever returns the
calls. I hear, i'm not interested please
don't call back. However, with that many
phone calls,
with the consistency, with the passion,
with the drive, with the determination, I
get the people that say, ah that's
interesting, I want to learn more. I meet
with those people, I follow up with those
people, I chase those people down. All
right and again, I'm going to go to two
photos in specific. So there's one
teaching yoga, the person that contracted
me for that i'd have to say there were
countless phone calls behind that, three
meetings, thank you cards in the mail
because I appreciated meeting with them
so much. Proposals back and forth that
all led up to that really cool photo of
the opportunity to teach yoga at a
resort for some out-of-town clients. The
second, I was teaching a really cool
workshop and again the whole story
behind that photo is the same thing:
countless newsletter creation, one a
month, a lot of work putting them in and
then bringing Rachel on to help with
that. So again that's paying somebody
else to do that, tons of phone calls, tons
of: not this month, maybe next month.
Organizing that, calling back. Again, I
want to reiterate tons of calls right
here in this office hours on end day
after day, and tons of organization to
follow up the people that show interest,
to follow up with the people that
voicemails are left for. Also i'm big on
cold calling. So a lot of cold calling
door to door to drop off my information
to get cards from people that show even
a speck of interest and to follow up
with them. So tip number one, truth number
one, is it is a lot of hard work but it's
worth it and if that is your dream, my
dream for you is that you do it and you
go for it, because it will happen if you
believe in it. All right truth number two,
you don't need a lot of money, I really
want to reiterate this, you do not need a
lot of money to get started with a
business. Okay, so if that is one of your
excuses it's that is stopping you, you do
not need a lot of money. Just get started,
make business cards that are fifteen
dollars for a box of a thousand,
Vistaprint is fantastic, and just get out
there in network and start telling
everybody what you do, you will find
people that are interested and then you
can take it from there. All right truth
number three is, here's a big one, you
don't need a website. Now I have one I
think they're helpful, but if you're just
getting started and you're waiting on
that website, just get out there. So I
have a girlfriend and we brainstorm this
together she was waiting to start her
business until she had a website, so we
talked about it we came up with the idea
of on her business card, simply putting a
before and an after photo with a client
reference. All of this accomplishes
really what a website would do. She has a
before and after picture showing the
impact of her services, she has a client
reference, and she can make a statement
saying contact me for more references.
She's good to go she can get started, she
can put action to meeting new people,
making new contacts, getting people in
her sales funnel, working with new
clients and then the website will come.
So truth there is you don't need a
website. All right the fourth truth, there
is so much free support I cannot
reiterate that enough. Ao i'll put a link
down below to the SBA and a few other
places when I first started. I am so
grateful I came across these free
resources. There are free resources to
help you with a business plan, a
marketing plan, to get clear on how
you're going to get business. So again
you don't need a lot of money, there's a
lot of free resources and my number one
tip to any of you watching this, you
don't need a big advertising budget to
get started. Cold calling, networking,
picking up the phone works if you ever
feel frustrated, my go-to activity is to
walk out of my office, go to the nearest
business complex and just start going
door-to-door introducing myself stating
what I do. And you know what if i do 10
to 20 of those, one to two people are
bound to resonate with what I do and
that really uplifts me because now I
have a new prospect. Alright, so that is
the real deal to starting a business.
Just go for it, just put some action
behind there, turn your dreams into
action, you can do it, you've got this. If
you like this go ahead and like it below,
subscribe, and leave a comment and I'd be
so grateful if you shared it with
anybody that is thinking about starting
a business. I will see you here next time
at Breathe & Work and Breathe & Sell,
to give you another tip to inhale your
dreams and exhale anything that's in the
way of making them happen.
Buh-bye.
