Raima Sen: Speaking Hindi was a challenge for me in Bollywood

Raima Sen is the perfect example of beauty with brains. The granddaughter of Bengali icon Suchitra Sen and daughter of actor Moon Moon Sen, it wasn't surprising to see Raima entering into films too.

The actor has successfully juggled between Bengali cinema and Bollywood for almost two decades. Though she agrees both the industries are quite different, her major challenge has been speaking Hindi.

In an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, Raima talks about how she juggles between the two film industries and more.

"They do function differently. See for me, because I've been born and brought up in Kolkata, it is more like they pamper me over here, they still call me by my pet name because they know my family.

Mumbai, it is more respectable like 'Raima Ji', and in Kolkata they treat me like a kid. So, that's the only difference I find. And the language is also a challenge over there. I've never studied Hindi.

Bengali was my language. When I had to do a Hindi film, I really had to concentrate on my dialogues. In Kolkata it comes pretty easy to me because I speak Bengali and not Hindi in daily life," Raima said.

Raima Sen with mother Moon Moon Sen and sister Riya Sen. Raima started acting as a child artiste. She says she used to regularly visit her mother's film sets and have deep conversations about the craft with her grandmother.

Ask her how it is being born into a family of actors and she says, "It's always going to be extra pressure and expectations on those who come from a lineage.

I think its easier for a newcomer with no baggage. I used to feel the pressure initially but now I don't feel it.

Now I feel the pressure to use my skills. Now the pressure is on myself, like I have to perform. So it's more about me now.".

Raima shares memories from her childhood days too. "When we were growing up, my grandmother had given up films.

But she used to tell us about her experiences. So it's good to know how that generation worked and how my mother's generation worked and how our generation worked.".

Raima Sen has done remarkable Bengali films like Chokher Bali, Anuranan, The Bong Connection and Noukadubi. Raima debuted in Hindi films with Godmother. She did Daman too but her breakthrough performance was in Rituparno Ghosh's Chokher Bali.

She followed it up with more Bengali films like Anuranan, The Bong Connection and Noukadubi. Her known Hindi films include Parineeta, Honeymoon Travels Pvt.

Ltd and Manorama Six Feet Under. While her filmography boasts of several popular Bengali movies, she is seen less in Hindi films.

"I choose the best from what I'm offered in Bollywood. What keeps me busy is I'm doing so much of regional cinema.

I'm doing such good work with very good directors so it's not that I'm waiting or getting frustrated or need to do every film. So I get to choose the best," she shared.

Raima Sen plays the role of lawyer Simrat Varun Chadha in Kuldip Patwal: I didn't do it!.

Raima, who recently appeared in Bollywood film Vodka Diaries opposite Kay Kay Menon, will soon be seen in a crime thriller titled Kuldip Patwal: I didn't Do It, where she plays a lawyer.

Talking about her role and the film, she shared, "It was very challenging as I've never played a lawyer before. I got very scared when I read the script, you know all that lawyer language, I've never done all that.

I took it up as a challenge more than anything. Now, if I have done my part, given it my 100 percent, I don't really look up to the film's outcome.

My philosophy tells me to give my best shot, at least prove to myself that I could do it. Then whatever the outcome of the film is, that's not in my hands.". Watch | Kuldip Patwal: I didn't do it! Trailer.

So what does Raima bring from her experience in Bengali cinema, when doing a Hindi film? "I've worked with several top directors in Bengal like Aniruddh Rai Choudhary who did Pink, and Aparna Sen.

I've never gone to an acting school. For me it's always been like learning on the job itself.

So I learn little things, and then I go there (Bollywood). There are some directors like Pradeep Sarkar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who tell you what to do and what they want.

But there are also some directors who leave it on you completely. So then all my knowledge comes to hand.".

A still from Pradeep Sarkar directorial Parineeta, starring Vidya Balan and Raima Sen.

Ask her any recent role she wanted to play and she says, "No! When I watch a film, I just watch it. I don't judge it or review it or critically say anything about it.

I think if you are supposed to be in a film, you'll be in a film. Otherwise I just look at it as an audience and enjoy it.".

She however quickly adds, "I've never done a historical period drama. I would love to do that, like a Jodhaa Akbar type.".

Raima's younger sister Riya Sen tied the knot recently. Talking about her wedding plans, she said, "I think marriages are made in heaven.

I don't think you can plan these things. So when my time comes, I think it'll just happen. But I don't think my time has come yet because I'm still so busy with my career.".

Kate Bowler: "Everything Happens for a Reason -- And Other Lies I've Loved" - Duration: 1:02.

Hi I'm Kate Bowler. I teach American religion at Duke Divinity School and I

wrote a book called "Everything happens for a Reason and Other Lies I've Loved"

about the weird experience of being an expert in the American prosperity gospel

who then got stage-four cancer at 35. So I wanted to be sort of the first person

to notice the ridiculous irony of specializing in divine promises where

God in this movement assurance believers health and wealth and perfect happiness

within the course of a human life and here I was having written the first

history of that movement and I'm in it facing down death in a culture that says

'everything happens for a reason.' So I wanted to think more about how I

thought about certainty in my own life what did I expect and what I hope for.

Waterproof Rain Gear for Work - Viking 100% Waterproof Rainwear | Workwear Tips from GEMPLER'S - Duration: 1:36.

What's the worst thing that can happen to your rainwear?

The worst thing that can happen is that it gets a tear in it.

That hole letting in rain and getting you wet pretty much eliminates all of those other

rainproof features you paid for.

Protection from tears is what makes rainsuits, jackets, bibs and overalls from Viking appealing.

The materials used to construct their rainwer, which includes: Nylon, Polyester, Trilobal

and VTech - are made using ripstop.

Ripstop fabrics are woven fabrics that use a special reinforcing technique that makes

them resistant to tearing and ripping - which makes these garments ideal for working where

there could be moderate abrasion or tear risks.

In addition to ripstop construction, all of the Viking rainwear garments on gemplers.com

feature taped and heat-sealed seams - either double-stitched or triple-sewn depending on

the garment - for 100% waterproof protection.

Another key feature of the rain jackets is the safety reflective piping on the front

and back.

This increases your visibility in low light environments.

When shopping for Viking rainwear, each garment will incorporate either the Open Road, Journeyman

or Viking Thor name.

These names indicate the different quality and price of each garment.

Viking Thor is the top tier, highest quality, but at a higher price.

Journeyman is mid-tier.

Good quality at a good price.

And Open Road is the introductory priced item, which would not have the same construction

or material quality as the other two lines.

Whether you're trying to stay dry from a light sprinkle or you're taming the roughest, wettest

work environments, put on Viking rainwear for comfortable, breathable, and 100% waterproof

work.

And make sure to get your Viking Rainwear at gemplers.com where you'll find more, in

stock, work clothing.

[CC] Treat Yourself for Less Than $50 | Valentine's Day Gifts for Book Lovers - Duration: 7:26.

Hi, guys. My name's Heather and you're watching Heather-Reset. Valentine's Day

is quickly approaching, and you might be wondering what should I get my

significant other. They're really into books. That's why I'm watching this video,

because it's very bookish sometimes and this person might know what my

significant other would want. Or you are a subscriber to my channel normally and

you've come across this video because you want to treat yourself. I have two

things that you can do that will round out to less than fifty dollars a month,

and you can treat yourself every month of the year. Here we go. The first one is

my favorite bookish box and that is the bookie box. This is actually created by a

BookTuber. I will link everything down below if you want to get in on this. It

is a slightly newer box. The three-month subscription is a hundred dollars which

will come to around a hundred and twenty-five dollars once you apply the

shipping cost for a three month subscription box. It always comes with

the same sorts of things and then some additional goodies that you'll never

know what they're going to be until you get them but that aren't throwaway items

like useless stuff that you seem to get in a lot of the other boxes, or stuff

that's just really geared toward actual teenagers. This one I feel like always

has items adults would appreciate or at least wouldn't know someone that would appreciate them

and can pawn them off. One of the things and my favorite item that is guaranteed

in every box is a scented candle that is made by the creator, and it's also

bookish so you could read the book that it corresponds with if you would like.

There's also always a graphically designed bookmark that comes with it. I

find these really pretty. She does a great job. And then of course the book or

books because sometimes there's more than one that come in the box along with

all of the publisher goodies like signed bookplates, notes from the

author or editor, and additional bookmarks, whatever the publishers decide

to throw in. There is also usually if not every single time some kind of fandom

print out that you can have on your bookshelf for that month to inspire you,

or if you are a bullet journaler you could tape it in there and now all of a

sudden you have a really cute little spread to put in your pages. There might

be other things. She likes to support indie authors as well, so every once in a while

she'll put a little card or something in there telling you about an indie book

and it might be signed by the author. And then she also includes like two items

that she picks that go with the theme or that she just thinks are useful. So one

of those items for this box was this. You put your thumb in it and put it in a

paperback book and it'll help keep the pages splayed so that you can read them

and not have to do that weird thing with your fingers where you get like a hand

cramp trying to keep the pages open. And then like a dream catcher. Sometimes the

items are more useful than others, like we've gotten a coaster before, stuff that

you can use, not just paper throwaways or putting the same exact type of items

every time that aren't useful. Like candles, use it for the month and then if

it's done and you've used it all. It could be used. You can throw it away and

it's not taking up space. So I really love this box. I highly recommend that

this be the one that you choose if you like young adult books, kind of the upper

young adult books meant for like adults who read YA I would say then you'll

like this box. And like I said. It rounds out to about $35 a month if you

get that bigger subscription. The second thing that I think that you should do is

if you have not already renewed your Barnes & Noble card

or opened up one go ahead and do that. It costs like $20 for the year. You're gonna

get your like 20% off everything from Barnes & Noble, your free shipping online,

and you're gonna get 10% off of everything that you buy at the Starbucks

Cafe that is within that Barnes & Noble. But right now the reason why I say it's

good to go renew or open it is because they have a deal going on where if you

open your card they're going to include one free drink of any size from the

Starbucks that is located in the Barnes & Noble or any of the Barnes & Nobles

that have Starbucks and you get one free drink a month any size. I've tried this.

I've done everything from an iced latte to a white hot chocolate to a smoothie,

so it works it's perfect. And you take your book from the bookie box, you go to

Starbucks, you use your one credit for that free drink, you spend a couple of

hours there just reading and drinking a nice drink, and treating yourself for less than

$50 a month. If you're a slow reader what you can do is just get a three

month subscription save the boxes and only open one every four months and then

you can go and read about 75 pages of the book every time you go to treat

yourself over the course of like four months. Then at the end of the year

you'll have read like four or five books depending on how many were put into the

boxes and you'll have treated yourself every month. So if you do the quarterly way

that I'm talking about that means that you can treat yourself for less than

$200 all year on treat yourself day. I hope you like this advice. I hope you

take it or you know spend it on your significant other if they're into it.

Sorry throat got dry. And let me know down below in the

comments if you do or if you've been doing this and how it turns out. Me? It's

something to look forward to every month. If you're a busy individual, I think that

it's very important for you to take a little bit of time for yourself.

Something as simple as spending three hours at Barnes & Noble just sitting

down with the book that's already been picked out for you and drinking free

drink is an awesome way to treat yourself. That is all I have for you guys.

I will see you in the next video. If you want any more treat yourself

recommendations, please let me know and I will make those videos. Until next time...bye.

Half Kneeling Chop for Core Stability - Duration: 2:23.

Welcome to Foundations YouTube channel my name is Christian Compean I'm a physical

therapist fellowship trained in manual orthopedic physical therapy.

Today we're going to go over a complimentary exercise to a video we've already made.

This is going to be the Chop this goes paired very well together with the lift so you can

look for that video on our channel as well.

So a chop is basically coming from the top down and you pull and push across your body.

I'm using a rope.

You'll see a lot of people use a harder stick I think that actually lets you compensate

some.

A rope will kind of expose if you're putting any slack in the rope you know you kind of

broke your form.

So very simple exercise to do.

You're going to get in a half kneeling position so make sure shoulder hip knee and foot are

in the same line same thing over here.

You're going to come across your body.

The tendency is to reach for the rope this way you're not supposed to have any rotation

in your spine with this exercise.

You should have everything square and squared up with the target.

This is kind of an anti-rotation exercise.

So then I start here.

I'm going to reach across without letting my spine rotate.

I'm going to pull.

When I pull I try to keep this hand right in front of my hip and then this one pushes

down in front of that same hip.

Then I come up.

Pull here.

Right so golfers, tennis players, baseball players all these rotational athletes would

really benefit from doing chops and lifts to help protect their spine while performing

rotational activities.

Simple exercise to do you just have to make sure you do it right and avoid all of the

compensations like coming over the top leaning if you feel like you're really pitching

forward chances are the weight is a little bit too heavy.

You should be able to maintain where pull, punch, hold there and back.

Thats the chop.

It goes very well with the lift.

Try it out.

If you like this video please give it a thumbs up.

If you know somebody it might help or might like it please share with them.

Subscribe to our channel we put a lot of similar content to keep you healthy.

We invite you to make questions and comments below.

Most of all we remind you that movement is a gift and we hope you enjoy it.

CUSTOMS RAIDING MARKETS FOR SMUGGLED RICE TO BE BANNED BY FG - Duration: 3:12.

CUSTOMS RAIDING MARKETS FOR SMUGGLED RICE TO BE BANNED BY FG

The Federal Government has approved N1. 12bn for the purchase of 50 operational "anti-rice smuggling" vehicles to check the persistent smuggling of rice into the country, according to the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun.

The minister spoke to State House correspondents alongside the Minister of Power, Works and Housing and the Minister of Mines, Mr Babatunde Fashola; and the Minister of Steel Development, Mr Kayode Fayemi, on the outcome of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.

Adeosun stated that the procurement of the operational vehicles, which would be deployed to the anti-rice smuggling Task Force, was also meant to stop custom officials from invading markets to seize smuggled rice and harassing traders.

"The second approval was for the purchase of 50 vehicles and they are going to be deployed for an anti-rice smuggling Task Force that is being put together which Customs will be leading.

"As you know, our efforts to become major rice producers had resulted to the revival of local rice growers.

But what we found was although that there was 90 per cent reduction in the official import of rice, smuggling has increased and of course, our borders are very porous.

"We believe that to protect our farmers and to protect the investments that the people had made and gone back to the farm government must really act to stem the tide of illegal rice importation via smuggling.

"We felt that it is important we don't want Customs going to seize rice in the markets.

Customs should actually act to stop rice coming in at the border posts and Customs indicated that they need additional vehicles, additional resources as well as of course other more information-driven strategies to stop it,'' she said.

According to her, the multi-agency task force on anti-rice smuggling which has been in operation since July 2017 had been gathering information on how to check smuggling of rice into the country.

The minister also disclosed that the council approved N1. 2bn to acquire 81 units of two-bedroom flat to serve as Nigeria customs' barracks in Abuja.
