Hello, and welcome to 'Blooming Bees' Infant Clinic
We are so happy to welcome you as part of our team!
During this short video,
pay attention to the three main tasks
that are expected from our employees who work directly with infant care.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy.
A well-baby exam usually begins with measurements.
You will need to undress your baby,
so he or she can be accurately weighed on an infant scale.
After the weight, you will measure the length.
Lie the infant down on a flat surface,
with their back straight and feet at 90 degrees
If needed, have the parent assist you with holding the infant flat.
Measure from the top of the head,
alongside the body and down to the ends of the feet.
The head circumference should be taken with a device that cannot be stretched,
such as, a flexible metal tape measurer.
Wrap the tape
snuggly around the widest possible circumference,
often 1 to 2 fingers above the eyebrow.
Record all measurements in the charts shown above:
The blue is used for boys, and the pink for girls.
After the measurements,
the infant should be checked for reflexes.
Reflexes are involuntary movements or actions.
Being health-care employees, we check reflexes to determine if the brain and nervous system
are working well.
The following, are some of the normal reflexes
we prioritize in our clinic.
The Rooting reflex, or Sucking reflex,
is tested by touching an area around the infant's mouth;
the infant, will turn to suck the stimulus.
The Moro reflex is tested by stabilizing the infant mid-line,
giving it a sudden stimulus,
as if dropping the infant.
The infant will extend the arms and legs
and suddenly,
draw them together as if embracing itself.
This reflex will disappear after 4 to 5 months.
Though infants cannot support their own weight,
the Walking, or Stepping reflex
works when the soles of their feet touch a flat surface.
The infant will attempt to walk
by placing one foot in front of the other.
The final reflex to test for is the Babinski reflex.
This reflex
is obtained by stimulating the outside of the sole
of the foot, causing the extension of the big toe
while fanning the other toes.
This reflex will disappear after infancy.
Before the end of the exam,
check and make sure
the infant is up to date on their immunizations.
The parent
will most likely
bring in a record book.
Check the infant's record
to make sure the infant
is on track with their immunizations.
Always remember
to educate the parent
if they have any concerns or questions
about the vaccines.
As a new employee,
here at 'Blooming Bees,'
remmeber that the infan't health is important
and our main priority.
Each visit should include the infant's height,
weight,
head circumference,
the four reflexes,
and lastly the immunizations.
If anything ever seems abnormal,
or raises any concerns
notify the provider immediately.
Welcome to our clinic
and we Beee-lieve
that you'll be a great asset
to our health-care team!
