Five Singing Tips For Breathing (and Some Mistakes!) - Duration: 6:18.

Breathing and singing go together intimately.

If your vocal cords are starving for air, your singing suffers.

When you're singing does it help your breathing to pull in your tummy?

There are some mistakes with pulling in your tummy I'd like to share with you.

Take a couple of deep breaths and join me as I give you some singing tips for breathing.

Hi I'm Chuck Gilmore with Power To Sing.

When you're singing, does it help your breathing to pull in your tummy?

It helps me.

But it can also cause problems if done incorrectly.

Let's briefly review diaphragmatic breathing.

For essential breathing basics be sure to watch Episodes 15 and 16.

The diaphragm is an umbrella shaped muscle just inside the lower part of the ribcage.

When it flattens out, it pushes the abdomen outward while creating more space in the lung

cavity.

This space creates a vacuum in the lungs which is quickly filled with air rushing in.

As you use your air when you're singing, the diaphragm returns to it's original umbrella-like

shape under the rib cage.

The tummy returns to its' normal flattened shape.

With your next breath, the cycle repeats and so on.

Sounds easy right?

Here are some singing tips for breathing to make sure things work right.

Avoid high chest, shallow breathing.

This tends to raise the larynx and add tension to the outer neck muscles.

This makes it harder for the vocal cords to work easily and freely.

When done correctly, you don't have to "take" a breath when you sing.

You just breath.

You stand with your feet about shoulder width apart.

Your chest is up, shoulders back and your head level looking straight ahead.

Your hips are rolled slightly forward and tummy in.

Instead of "taking" a breath, just relax the tummy.

Sometimes it's referred to letting it drop.

This allows the diaphragm to flatten and air rushes into the lungs.

You don't have to take a breath, the air fills the vacuum in the lungs without any

effort.

3.

As you sing you're using the air.

As you do, gradually and gently pull your tummy inward toward your back.

This seems to help the air move steadily to the vocal cords and outward with your singing

voice.

A mistake can be made if you overdo pulling your stomach inward.

Just a slight and gradual pull inward is plenty.

You'll be the one who finds just the right balance.

But guard against too much tension or force.

4.

There are three times I find it helpful to be more forceful pulling my tummy in.

A. When I have to sustain a note for a long time [Demo]

B. When I have a high note in my upper range held long or short.

This seems to help me be on pitch.

[Demo] Again, a potential mistake is jerking your tummy in too hard.

This can cause too much tension, push you sharp, blow your cords into falsetto, etc.

It takes time to find the right balance.

C. When I need to project my voice on stage, during public speaking, or any other time

I need to speak loud.

Also, you need to project your voice even though you have a mic.

The sound engineers will balance the volume.

If you're not projecting, the mic will not help you and the audience won't hear you.

[Demo] 5.

I've also noticed that I tend to hold my stomach in as I finish using the air.

Then, when I take a breath, I relax and "drop" my stomach...let the diaphragm drop, and refill

with air for the next phrase.

[Demo] As simple as this sounds, it's a struggle

for many singers.

You have to practice breathing this way until it becomes a habit.

Practicing your songs while focusing on breathing, will make it easier to breath correctly when

you perform for an audience.

These singing tips for breathing also applies to each vocal type.

Your vocal type is not whether you're soprano, alto, tenor or bass.

Your vocal type is what you tend to do when you sing from your chest into your head voice.

Do you know your vocal type?

Visit PowerToSing.com and take the vocal test, which I call the PowerTest.

Take the quiz and discover your vocal type.

Then visit the Knowledge Center and watch the videos about your vocal type.

Download the free exercises for your vocal type and start improving your voice rapidly.

I'm Chuck Gilmore with Power To Sing.

You can sing higher with beauty, confidence and power.

I'll see you inside the next video.

Jeep Wrangler Garvin Adventure Rack (2007-2017 JK) Review & Install - Duration: 5:28.

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review and installation of the Garvin

Adventure Rack fitting your 2-door 2007 and up JK.

Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this rack which is a very simple one out

of three wrenches because this is designed to bolt directly on to your Jeep without any

major modifications.

So if you decide to tackle this job on your own, you can get this done in your driveway

in about two hours, but we'll talk a little bit more about the install in just a minute.

We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the features of this rack.

Even though the newer JKs do have some more space inside of them than the older TJs did,

if you are somebody who needs to haul a bunch of gear, chances are you don't have room inside

your JK, so a roof rack could be a really nice option.

Now, I don't recommend a roof rack for those of you who do some really hard core off-roading

and get yourself into a lot of off-camber situations.

Having the additional weight up on top of the vehicle can make you a little bit top

heavy and can raise your center of gravity which isn't a good thing.

However, if you do more of an overland style of off-roading, or you stay on the road, or

you're just trying to haul some gear to the camp site for the weekend, a roof rack can

be a really nice solution.

Now, there are some very inexpensive roof racks out there on the market but those ones

aren't going to hold up quite as well to rust and corrosion because of the coating.

They're probably going to make some rattling noises when you're driving down the road or

certainly when you're hitting the trail.

That's not what you're going to get with a rack from Garvin.

This is a really high-quality roof rack and not only is it built really well and going

to hold up really well and be very quiet, it's also going to look really good.

It's very sleek in its design.

Some of the less expensive racks on the market do look a little bit boxier, in my opinion,

and aren't quite as sleek.

So while you are going to spend a little bit more money for a Garvin rack, you are getting

something that's gonna hold up well over time, it's gonna be quiet, and it looks good.

As far as the construction goes, this is a steel tubular roof rack that's covered in

a textured black powder coat finish.

Again, this finish is going to hold up really well to rust and corrosion.

And the way that this thing is designed and built, it is going to be nice and quiet and

rattle-free as long as you follow all of the instructions when you're installing it.

This can hold up to 300 pounds and it is a little bit different than, say, the Garvin

Adventure Rack which is a more expensive rack.

The Adventure rack essentially has a built-in basket that covers the entire roof area of

the Jeep.

This is a much more simple rack that just has a couple of bars on it.

However, you can get a basket or any number of other accessories so that you can strap

down whatever type of gear you are trying to haul.

One of the other nice features about this rack is that it does tilt back allowing you

to lower and raise your soft top without completely removing the roof rack.

So this is hinged in the back making it very easy for you to tilt it and actually your

soft top without having to completely remove the roof rack.

As I mentioned before, the installation of this rack is a very simple one out of three

wrenches, and you can probably get this done in right around two hours.

As with most other roof racks on the market this is going to attach to the windshield

hinges in the front and has some brackets on your rear frame rails that come up, and

that's where your pivot point is going to be for the rear of the rack.

Once you have the mounts on the front and the mounts on the frame on the rear, it's

a simple matter of attaching the hoops and the crossbars that run front to back on your

Jeep.

This is going to be a very simple rack to install but you are going to wanna follow

the instructions that are included to make sure that you're getting everything bolted

in place exactly where it goes, and make sure everything is nice and tight so you're not

going to have any rattles.

You're not going to need any specialty tools to get this job done, just your traditional

hand tools and, again, about two hours of time.

As I mentioned before, this rack is going to be a little bit less expensive than the

Garvin Expedition Rack just because it is a simpler rack, there isn't quite as much

here.

However, this is going to be more expensive than some of the other racks on the market.

There are Barricade roof racks out there that are certainly less expensive than this one

is, but this is a very high-quality rack.

It's a very well-built rack, and as we said before, it's very low profile and it is a

sleek-looking rack.

So it really comes down to what you're looking for on your Jeep.

I think that this is absolutely worth the price you have to pay for it.

However, if you're not somebody who's going to be running a roof rack year round, you're

not as worried about the rattles, you don't live in an area where you have a lot of salt

so you're not worried about corrosion, then yeah, you can probably go with one of those

less expensive racks and save yourself a little bit of money.

But, if you're looking for a really high-quality rack that's gonna look sleek, hold up well,

and be noise-free, I think this one is worth the price.

So if you're looking to add a little bit of additional cargo space to your two-door JK,

a roof rack like this one is a really nice option.

This is going to give you the ability to carry up to 300 pounds of gear on the roof of the

Jeep, it's going to be a really sleek-looking rack that will hold up really well over time

and is really easy to install.

So that's my review of the Garvin Adventure Rack, fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you

can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
