Choi Soon-sil a no-show for independent counsel summons; other key figures questioned - Duration: 2:26.

Moving on to the latest in the investigation into a massive corruption scandal rattling

this country...

The independent counsel team has re-called key figures for questioning -- including Choi

Soon-sil, the woman at the center of it all -- without much success.

But, what's noteworthy: the special prosecutors may have found a new lead that could possibly

more strongly implicate Choi in the alleged bribery case.

It COULD also mean a new warrant.

Our Hwang Hojun reports from the independent counsel office.

The independent counsel team re-called four key figures for questioning on Wednesday.

Three of them appeared -- Choi's niece Chang Si-ho; President Park's former presidential

secretary, Jeong Ho-seong... and the former senior presidential secretary for policy coordination,

Ahn Jong-beom.

But while Choi Soon-sil, the woman at the heart of the scandal, was also summoned, she

didn't appear, citing psychological trauma as the reason for her inability to show up.

During an afternoon briefing, the independent counsel team said it didn't know exactly what

she meant by that, but the spokesperson indicated that it could be related to the news of her

daughter's arrest in Denmark.

The first and only time Choi has ever complied with a summons was on Christmas Eve.

Since then, she's continued to refuse, citing health reasons.

The team's spokesperson, Lee Kyu-chul, also mentioned that if Choi continues to fail to

comply with the summons, the team could request a new arrest warrant to bring her in on new

charges.

The spokesperson specifically mentioned charges of bribery.

Meanwhile, the independent counsel team has confirmed that the Danish High Court has dismissed

Chung Yoo-ra's appeal of a lower court decision to extend her detention in the country to

30 days.

Back here in Korea, the independent counsel team says it will continue to pursue extradition.

"We've confirmed the extradition request will be settled today and then sent to the justice

ministry.

Since the justice ministry has already translated the arrest warrant, the process will start

as soon as it receives the request."

"However, the team also says it's highly likely that Chung will return to Korea of her own

volition, because she will have to be separated from her 19-month-old son while she's in detention

in Denmark.

And experts say her return could serve as a catalyst for the investigation, possibly

leading Choi to become a bit more cooperative.

Hwang Hojun, Arirang News."

Korea records current account surplus for 57 consecutive months in Nov 2016 - Duration: 1:53.

But, some positive air on the nation's trade front.

Korea did better in terms of trade in November... compared to the month before.

A rise in exports helped keep the current account balance in the black for a record

57th consecutive month -- closing in on five years straight.

Data from the Bank of Korea show the biggest on-year increase in exports in 29 months.

Kim Hyo-sun reports.

Korea maintained its current account surplus for the 57th straight month in November.

According to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea on Wednesday,... the nation's current

account surplus came to 8-point-9-9 billion U.S. dollars... thanks to a rise in exports.

While that's a 270-million-dollar increase in the surplus compared to the previous month,

it's a drop of ten percent from a year earlier.

Most notable in November was a surplus in the goods account -- up 690 million dollars

... to a total of 10-point-5-2 billion.

Overall exports jumped 7-point-7 percent on year to a total volume of nearly 46-and-a-half

billion U.S. dollars -- the first on-year increase since June 2014.

The central bank attributed the turnaround in exports mainly to a revitalization of the

global semiconductor and chemical industries and a recovery in unit prices for steel products.

Imports also jumped 10-point-6 percent to 35-point-9 billion dollars.

The BOK noted that imports rose in November by the biggest percentage in over 4 years...

partly due to a hike in oil prices.

Based on November's cross-border trade volumes, a central bank analyst said that the fourth

quarter of last year looks to be heading in a positive direction.

S. Korea to maintain hardline policy against N. Korea this year - Duration: 2:31.

Our starting point tonight: the Korean government's policy briefings for the new year.

First in line were ministries in charge of foreign and security policies.

What we're learning from the briefings today - Seoul will keep its focus on dealing with

North Korea's threats and curbing the Kim Jong-un regime's nuclear ambitions in 2017.

Connie Kim has our top story tonight.

The main focus of South Korea's security policy for 2017 will be to continue pressuring North

Korea over its nuclear weapons program.

Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn, the current acting president, was briefed on Wednesday

by the foreign affairs and unification ministries on their blueprints for the new year,... which

focus on cooperation with the nation's allies and targeting Pyongyang's weakest points in

order to bring about change.

"North Korea is trying to throw South Korea into chaos with its repeated provocations,

threats and peace offensive.

The government will stick to its North Korea policy of holding a vision for a peaceful

reunification and pressuring the North to give up its nuclear program.

At the same time, Seoul must garner international support for a reunified Korean peninsula."

South Korea will continue to limit North Korea's access to funds through an export cap on its

coal and minerals, as stated in the latest UN resolution, and seek to persuade other

nations to impose unilateral sanctions on the North.

Seoul will also work with the incoming Trump administration to maintain the current hardline

policy against North Korea.

Over the coming year, South Korea will also focus on targeting North Korea's abysmal human

rights record and seek ways to funnel information into the regime.

Seoul says it will bring up the issue of holding Kim Jong-un responsible for the regime's human

rights abuses and seek to shed more light on the awful conditions endured by North Korean

workers abroad.

These activities are expected to intensify this year when South Korea launches a planned

North Korean human rights foundation.

Reunification will be another focus for Seoul this year.

South Korea plans to work on reviewing the status of separated families, educating students

about reunification and holding commemorative events on dates of historical significance.

"With these plans as a guide, the administration is seeking to keep up the pressure on North

Korea while also laying a foundation for reunification.

Connie Kim, Arirang News."

The Fixies ★ The Cartoon - The Alarm ★ Fixies English 2017 | Cartoon For Children - Duration: 11:35.

Can you believe that Fixies are Such itty-bitty creatures?

Even when they're magnified It's hard to see their features.

They're tiny, infinitesimal, So small it makes you doubt.

But if you meet a Fixie, please, Don't let their secret out!

The Cartoon

Yeah.

Like that.

Yeah.

Tom Thomas, aren't you done yet?

Yeah! Show us your surprise and quit drawing!

But this IS the surprise!

So, make yourselves comfortable!

Quiet on the set! And… action!

Great crash!

You should put a huge bump on his head!

It's just like a cartoon that you drew on there!

He did draw us a real cartoon there.

Oh, right!

Real cartoons? They only show them on television.

But they make them exactly the same way.

Animation is made with many-many pictures called frames.

Each one of the frames is a little bit different from the one that comes right before it.

For example, a character can lift his arm up a little bit at a time.

And then, if you watch the frames very quickly one right after the other,

it looks like the character is really moving.

And that's how cartoons are made.

And you know what, to make one minute of a cartoon

you might have to draw more than a thousand frames!

Oh wow!

I'm not patient enough for that.

It's no big deal that your cartoon is short.

Especially since it's funny.

Yeah, it's so funny!

Tom Thomas, who is this kooky guy you drew here?

You're just joking, Nolik!

You don't recognize yourself?

So this is suppose to be me on here?

Did you already forget what happen to you this morning?

Simka, you're it! You can't catch me!

I'm too fast for you!

You're weren't too fast for the pole.

Simka! You didn't have to tell him about that!

Real sisters don't treat their brothers like that!

And your cartoon's not funny at all!

Nolik, don't go!

It's OK, he just needs to sulk for a while.

While he's gone there's something I wanna show you.

Do you have a cartoon you can put on the TV?

I have plenty!

What should I do?

Let's watch it again,

but now I wanna show you the same cartoon a frame at a time.

Here. Take a look.

This... is a frame.

and here's… another,

and another.

Isn't that cool?

Uh-huh!

So cool!

And then, back at regular speed,

there's 25 frames every second!

What should I do?

It's magical!

Simka, you know...

I feel awful for Nolik.

Yeah. I feel awful too.

There are many different ways of making animation.

Hand-drawn-animation is, of course, drawn by hand.

And stop-motion is made like this:

The animators pose the model and take a picture of it.

Then they move the model a little bit and take another picture.

And they do it again, and again, and again,

until there are enough frames to make the characters

look like they're moving very smoothly across the screen.

Another popular style of animation is clay animation.

In these films everything is built and rebuilt out of modeling clay.

But today most of the cartoons are made on a computer.

At first they make a computer model of a character,

a sort of digital puppet.

After the models are built there're colored and animated to move.

This is the kind of animation that's used in The Fixies cartoons!

Tom Thomas, what are you doing?

Are drawing a new cartoon?

Nah. I started fixing the old one,

so Nolik will stop being angry.

Good! Keep drawing.

And I'll go and get him.

Nolik!

I'm not here!

Nolik, forgive me!

Please don't be so mad.

There's a cartoon to watch!

I've already seen your stupid cartoon!

So what did you do now? Put a huge bump on my head?

Not a chance!

I did it all over again!

I'm sure you'll love it!

You sure of that?

Alright, go ahead!

Show me your cartoon!

Quiet on the set!

And… action!

There you go!

Now that cartoon I really liked!

Good!

Because I'm all out of paper.

Well, I think that the first cartoon was funnier.

Woah!

But this one's much better of course!

Yeah!

Fixies have a special sign I happened to discover.

They hold three fingers in the air And flash it to each other.

They send their greetings to you They sing them and they shout,

But if you meet a Fixie, please, Don't let their secret out!

The Alarm

Hey there!

I'm back.

Yoo-hoo!

Wait! My chocolate bunny! It was standing right here.

What's this? A dog?

Not that one, another one.

I had two bunnies!

I just got them as a present.

You had two bunnies?

Are you sure of that?

Of course!

You think I don't know my ones from my two's?!

Then someone stole one!

Unless, ah... Unless...

You went and ate it yourself!

Me?!

How come I don't remember anything about it?

Maybe you're a sleepwalker!

What is a sleepwalker?

Someone who get's up from his bed at night without waking up.

He crosses the room,

eats one of his chocolate bunnies,

and doesn't remember a thing in the morning.

But in the morning the bunny was still here!

Yeah? Huh.

How about…

Your mother! Could she have taken it?

She doesn't like when you're eating too much candy.

No, she doesn't.

She says that candy's terrible for my teeth.

And so, to save your teeth from these sweets,

she snuck quietly into your room,

snatched one of the rabbits,

and ate it!

But Mom's the one who gave them to me as a present!

And so why would she take it?

Yeah?

Then I just don't know.

Well, I do!

I think it was your father!

He wouldn't steel it! We know he's allergic to chocolate.

Next he'll tell us how the fish took it!

You know...

I always thought there was something fishy about those fish.

No doubt about it!

They stole the bunny!

Uh-huh! And then they hid it in their aquarium.

Oh, Nolik, that's funny!

You know what, Tom Thomas!

You need to protect that other chocolate hare!

Exactly!

It has to be eaten right away.

Now, before it disappears.

Just wait a little.

You don't have to eat it.

Let's think of something else.

Of course! We need a security alarm!

Need what?

The alarm was invented to keep houses, cars and other valuable things safe and secure.

The simplest alarm is a siren or light bulb

that is connected by wires to a door or window.

When someone tries to open a door that has an alarm on it,

the alarm goes off,

making the siren howl and the light flash.

Alarms can also be set up to call the police if they go off.

Super!

But where can we get ourselves a security alarm?

You have an electronic construction kit! Remember?

You're right!

Then bring it over here.

Nolik, help me!

- Tideesh! -Tideesh!

Tideesh is the Fixies' victory call.

When a job is well done, and we Fixies are proud of our work,

we exclaim "Tideesh!"

and raise up our hand with our thumb and first two fingers sticking out.

You want to know what it means?

It's very simple.

Fixies love solving problems and fixing things that are broken.

And do you know what you need to do to solve a problem?

First, you need to find out what's broken.

Second – understand why it broke.

And third – repair what's broken so it works again.

So do what the Fixies do and:

First – find it, Second – understand it, and Third – fix it.

Tideesh!

It really is a great word!

And it sounds funny.

But we Fixies surely like it a lot!

Well, Tom Thomas, turn on the alarm.

You sure the alarm will work?

I'm sure. Without a doubt!

You're under arrest!

- Freeze! - Freeze!

Chewsocka?

Why are you stealing my chocolate?

It was important for me to give my child the option to pursue his birth parents - Duration: 3:12.

So then I focused on adoption through an independent company. And there was two

styles. There's open and closed. And I have a cousin who...not the same cousin of

mine who lives in New York but I've a cousin who lives in Michigan who,

I'd say, 15, 16 years ago...actually maybe closer to 20, 25 years ago now, she placed

a child for closed adoption. And it sounded tough on her. And one thing that

was...it's important to me and, I discovered that by researching and talking

with my cousin, is how important it is I thought for whatever, for my son or

daughter, to be able to possibly self-contact with the birth mother.

There is a lot of questions that I believe Nolan will have, you know,

10, 15 years from now, identity questions. And my hope is that the birth mother is

still, around in the picture. And that she can help answer some of those questions.

Otherwise, I can do the very best I can. But I don't know all of the intricate

details of...you know, he may ask why he loves soccer. I don't know what's genetic

and what's not. A lot of people probably don't either. But just why am I good at

math, you know ?

Maybe there's...just wants to have questions on family history, you know,

questions that I don't have all the answers to. So that's what made me focus

on open adoption, is the idea that...and it's healthy for the birth mother as well.

It's not just something that is good for Nolan. It will be good for his birth

mother, too. Because after speaking to my cousin, I mean, I know that wherever her

first child is, you know, that that child never got to talk to my cousin, never did.

Closed adoption was really closed back then.

And I know my cousin has like questions, you know. At last I think she...

I think, you know, that the idea...that I wouldn't want that for Nolan,

the idea of being closed. Now it's not my choice. There could be an open adoption

in which the birth mother just decides to never make contact. I hope that's not the

case with Nolan but it's a possibility. But at least the option is there.

And that's what I like about open adoption.

And that's why after meeting with this company called the Independent Adoption

Center, IAC...I met with them in March, I believe it was, of 2013.

And after meeting with them and attending a pretty interesting day-long seminar

that they had, I decided to sit on it, think about it a little bit.

And then two months later in May, I signed up with them.
