Waching daily Jan 27 2017

Earlier this week, Chelsea Manning wrote an op-ed, where she attacked President Obama

for being a little too willing to compromise with the Republican party.

As a response to this op-ed that Chelsea Manning wrote, Donald Trump did what he does best,

and he took to Twitter, and called her, "A traitor."

"How dare she go after President Obama after he commuted her sentence?

How could somebody do this?"

Well, let me explain something to Donald Trump here, and pretty much to anyone else who's

wondering why Chelsea Manning would have the audacity to say negative things about Barrack

Obama.

There is nothing that Chelsea Manning said in that op-ed that you have not heard from

truly progressive media outlets for the last eight years.

Chelsea Manning talked about the fact that when Obama would go in to a negotiation with

the Republicans, he was already willing to give things up before he walked through that

door.

He went through that door and before he said, "These are the things we want," he would say,

"These are the things we're willing to give up.

Now where do you stand Republicans?"

And they wouldn't budge, so he'd give up a little more, until eventually, we end up something

with like the Affordable Care Act, that originally had a single-payer option in it.

That would have solved a lot of the healthcare problems in the Untied States.

Democrats, the second they encountered any Republican opposition, took it away.

Gone.

Could have been the most sweeping healthcare reform the United States has ever seen, something

that would have transformed the system completely, inside and out, and the Democrats gave it

up at the very first of opposition, even though it was overwhelmingly approved by both Republicans

and Democrats in the United States public.

72%.

72% of this country wanted that in that legislation.

Republicans and Democrats.

Republicans in Washington opposed, so the Democrats got away with it, and it's things

like that that Chelsea Manning is pointing out.

She's not saying, "He's an idiot for commuting her sentence."

She's not saying, "He was a horrible President."

She was saying, "That in terms of being a negotiator, in terms of being a truly progressive

reformer, he failed," and he did.

Anyone who looks at this Presidency honestly, has to admit that to himself.

President Obama was a good guy.

He did a few good things as President.

Quite a few good things.

But, he could have done more, had he not been so wiling to give up everything in the face

of opposition, and that's what Chelsea Manning was talking about, and that's what progressive

media has been talking about for eight years.

So, I guess, if Chelsea Manning is a traitor, then we're all traitors, because we had the

nerve to tell Obama, "To stand up for himself a little bit more."

Deep Learning with Tensorflow - Recursive Neural Tensor Networks - Duration: 5:46.

Hello, and welcome!

In this video, we'll provide an overview of Recursive Neural Tensor Networks, as well

as the natural language processing problems that they're able to solve.

Sentiment Analysis is the task of identifying and extracting subjective information, like

emotion or opinion, from a source material.

For example, this might involve analyzing a twitter feed to determine which tweets express

a positive feeling, which express a negative feeling, and which are neutral.

In order to classify sentences into different sentiment classes, we'll need a dataset to

use for training.

One potential dataset is the Stanford Sentiment Treebank.

Each data point is the syntax tree of a rotten tomatoes review.

The tree itself and all the subtrees are labeled with a sentiment value from 1 to 25.

25 is the best possible review, while 1 is the worst.

The dataset was created by Stanford researchers, who utilized Amazon's Mechanical Turk platform

in order to assign values.

Recursive neural models can be used for the sentiment analysis problem.

These types of models are characterized by their use of vector representations.

Vectors are used to represent words, as well as all sub-sentences related to an input's

syntax tree.

The word representations are trained with the model, and the representations of sub-sentences

are calculated with a compositionality function.

To calculate the sub-sentence's representations, we apply the compositionality function bottom-up

according to the input's parse tree.

All vectors are fed to the same softmax classifier to determine the sentiment.

The choice of compositionality function is important, so we'll present three different

types of recursive models, each with a different function.

The first model we'll look at is the basic Recursive Neural Network.

To compute our word composition, we start with our vectors that we want to combine,

which we'll call "b" and "c".

We form a "two d" by "d"

matrix by concatenating "b" and "c".

This new matrix is multiplied by the "d" by "two d"

weight matrix "W".

"W" is the model's main training parameter.

Then a nonlinearity is applied element-wise to the resulting vector.

In this case, the nonlinearity is the hyperbolic tangent function.

As a brief note, we?ve omitted the bias for simplicity.

Other models use this compositionality function, like the recursive autoencoder, and recursive

auto-associative memories.

As you can see, the words only interact implicitly through the nonlinearity, so the compositionality

function may not be consistent with linguistic principles.

The model also ignores reconstruction loss, since the dataset is large enough to compensate.

Now let's move on to Matrix-Vector Recursive Neural Networks.

This type of model is a linguistically-motivated improvement over the basic recursive neural

network.

The big change is that now every word is represented by both a vector and a "d" by "d" matrix.

The compositionality function that you see here takes four objects.

Lowercase "b" and "c" are the word vectors, while the uppercase "b" and "c" are the respective matrices.

Lowercase "p1" is the resulting vector, while uppercase "P1" is the respective matrix.

Just like with basic recursive neural networks, a matrix "W" is multiplied with a matrix created

from the word's representations.

But in this case, the matrix created is much more dependent on the relationship between

the two input words.

The problem with this model is that the number of trainable parameters becomes too large

as the vocabulary size increases.

The Recursive Neural Tensor Network, or RNTN, uses a powerful fixed-size compositionality

function that only takes the word's vectors as arguments.

The model is not parameterized by matrices but it adds a "two d" by "d" by "d"

tensor that is used in the function.

This tensor is also trained with the model.

Each of the "d"

slices captures a different type of composition, so intuitively, it is more capable of learning

than the basic recursive neural network.

It turns out that RNTNs outperform the known alternative methods.

It has achieved over eighty-seven percent accuracy in positive negative word classification,

and over eighty-five percent accuracy in positive negative sentence classification on the Stanford

Sentiment Treebank.

This is a sentence classification accuracy that's more than three percent higher compared

to normal Recurrent Networks.

Recursive Neural Tensor Networks can also be used in other applications, such as Parsing

Natural scenes, and Parsing Natural languages.

This is due to the recursive nature of these problems.

If you're interested in learning more about RNTNs, we recommend you follow the link here

to a great article by Socher, and others.

By now, you should understand the intuition behind recursive neural models, and recursive

neural tensor networks.

Will Trucking Companies Try to Blame You For a Truck Crash? - Duration: 2:27.

Some of the work that we do is some of the most hard-fought litigation that there is.

And most of the time it has to do with when you're suing a big trucking company.

That same time you're suing their insurance company, because in Georgia we have what's

called a direct action statute, where you actually name their insurance company as a

defendant because tractor trailers on the road are deemed so dangerous, that we have

a special statute in Georgia that requires them to carry insurance, and that if they

do something that is wrong and create injury or death, then you can name the insurance

company as a defendant.

The people who created the problem are out there on the scene covering up the evidence

and trying to make it to where they can't recover for it.

So, that's where "We Fight" comes in.

because people, even if it's been six months later and they're finished with the aftermath

of the terrible grief and the plans and the people in the hospital parts of things, a

lot of the evidence may be gone by then, by the way.

So, they have to get somebody to call a competent attorney quickly so that we can get in there

and fight for them, because there are people fighting from day one on malpractice cases

and on big wreck cases to diminish what the people who are hurt or going to get.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "we're not the kind of people who sue."

and I agree.

I'm not the kind of person who sues too, but everybody is the kind of person who sues when

a terrible injustice is done and either you or a loved one have been terribly harmed by

it.

And it is just incredible on these cases, and on malpractice cases how the victim is

blamed.

You have to have somebody who is steadfast and says "no that's not going to fly."

You know, we've got the goods on you.

We've got the evidence.

We've gathered it all together.

We're very detailed conscious.

We prove exactly why they're at fault to the point that cannot blame the person who is

hurt.

At the McArthur Law Firm, our job is to fight for you to make sure you get justice and reasonable

compensation for your injuries.

I'm an Online Therapist offering online therapy for New York and the east coast of North America

and any other parts of America where you might be looking for an alternative to conventional

medical treatments.

So I provide online therapy as an alternative to medication.

Medications, of course, treat symptoms, but they don't treat the underlying cause of anxiety

or depression.

For that you need to work with the underlying psychological processes that cause anxiety

and depression.

And that's what I specialize in.

I teach Mindfulness Therapy.

This is a very effective system for working with anxiety and depression, that I developed

several years ago now, and that helped with, especially those suffering from anxiety disorders

and panic attacks, also agoraphobia, and generalized anxiety disorder.

So if you live in New York City or the State of New York and you are interested in scheduling

an online therapy session with me then please go to my website and then send me an email

and we can schedule a Skype therapy session at that time that was for you.

So as an Online Therapist my interest is in teaching you effective mindfulness-based strategies

for overcoming your anxiety or depression.

I look forward to hearing from you.

What's New for Spring 2017 - Duration: 5:05.

Welcome to ID&D's first Spring 2017 tip of the week.

You might not know that MyClasses is updated every three weeks with enhancements, fixes, or new features.

The weekend of January 28, 2017 is one of those weekends, and just in time for the Spring 2017 semester.

In this video we will highlight some of the changes to MyClasses.

The first change is that the Dashboard will now display up to 20 courses.

This is an increase from twelve during the Fall 2016 semester.

If you don't see a course on your dashboard you can always go to all courses from the global navigation.

Click on courses, scroll down, and then click on all courses.

You can also decide to favorite some of your courses that you want to appear on the dashboard so that not all courses will appear.

Another change that was made is that we have removed dates from our terms within MyClasses.

Faculty who had courses with incompletes were experiencing problems extending quizzes.

So we have removed the dates from the term, because we do have course dates at the section level.

With this change though, you may see new "To Do" items from past semesters.

Click the "x" next to the "To Do" list item and it will remove it from the dashboard.

During the Fall 2016 semester you might have missed the following updates to Canvas.

For past courses, faculty are now able to view course analytics.

In group assignments, faculty can now enable peer reviews and restrict it to be within the group itself using the intra group option.

When working in question banks and selecting the show question details, the correct answer indicator will now display within the questions.

And courses using the attendance tool, students can view their attendance as part of the assignment submission details page.

Lets move on to the new features for Spring 2017.

The first new feature is for faculty who are using a front page for their course homepage.

You will now have the ability to display announcements.

Go to settings. On the course details tab, select more options and then select option to show recent announcements on

the course homepage. By going back to the homepage, you will see

that the three announcements are available, and expanding the announcement will show the details.

A new faculty time saving feature is the introduction of the contact card.

In people, faculty can click the name of a student to see a quick glimpse of the students activity including their current grade,

number of missing assignments, and late assignments.

The contact card also provides quick access to the student's individual grade view of the gradebook.

This individual view is great when meeting with the student to discuss their progress in their course.

It also provides quick access to the analytics page for the student where you can view the dates of their activity, communication,

and submissions. Course copy has some new features, such as the ability to easily select a course as they are listed by terms.

The ability for interactive SCORM content to copy over, and permissions for

embedded Panopto recordings being granted to students in the new semester.

Icons within Canvas have a new look for the new year.

The most dramatic changes were the assignments and the quiz icons.

Sorry A and Q, your letters have been removed.

Our last new feature is the new Canvas Commons open education resources repository.

You have the ability to search and import content into your course.

For example, need the official SU office of Disability Support Services statement?

We have it right here for you.

The Canvas Commons will be highlighted and explored at our February MyClasses users group meeting on February 8, 2017.

Come and join us to learn more.

Thank you for watching this "What's New for Spring 2017" tip of the week.

If you have any questions about information highlighted in this video, please contact us in ID&D.

Meet the Feminists at the March for Life | The Daily Signal - Duration: 3:14.

I actually got involved with the Pro-Life movement because when I was sixteen years old, growing up in California…

I had a pregnancy scare… by my rapist. He told me that if I didn't get an abortion, he would kill me. Then himself.

And in that moment I realized that I couldn't use violence to get what I wanted.

That if I were to have an abortion, if I was indeed pregnant, that I would be doing the same exact thing that he was doing to me

Which was threatening violence against me, just because I was inconvenient to him.

I think both sides of the coin – both the feminist movement and the pro-life movement

really suffer from this exclusion of people that really don't quite fit the mold. <i><b><u><font color=#00000000></font></u></b></i>

And, you know, there's the trope of old, conservative, Christian, white, and particularly male – that's usually the trope.

It's like – there are all sorts of different, diverse members of our movement that don't fit that trope.

And the pro-life movement, I also feel like there's this not quite 'fitting in-ness' happening.

Because I don't support the Republican Party establishment, I don't support Donald Trump,

You know, his misogyny, and his hateful rhetoric were really troubling to me as a feminist who is also pro-life.

Can you be pro-life and a feminist? Absolutely you can – I am.

The core tenets of feminism are non-violent, non- discrimination, and equality. And we think that

The pro-choice position is actually incompatible with those tenets.

I mean, we've been embracing pro-life feminism for years – this is not new to us.

It might be new to the rest of the world, but we're glad we are finally kind of getting a voice.

The woman's march was not a form of unity and the whole point of respecting life and

respecting all life from the moment of conception to natural death… is the most powerful thing we can do <i><b><u><font color=#00000000></font></u></b></i>

And it's the most all-inclusive thing we can have.

I think a lot of people struggle with the idea of like, 'can you be pro-life and also be a feminist?'

This shirt is saying "yes, and here she is!"

We created these a long time ago and its actually a response to the shirts that were created that said, 'this is what a feminist looks like'

Like, I love that shirt, and I love that idea – how can we make that our own?

How can we proclaim that we stand for both woman and child?

Feminism is based in equality… like human equality, regardless of sex.

The empowerment of women has definitely been at the root of feminism.

And if we believe in this equality, it means we must stand for non-discrimination.

If we stand for non-discrimination, we must also stand for non-violence.

And if all those three are true… then doesn't it make sense...

That we should also be opposed to the violent and lethal discrimination

against the tiniest members of our human family that is abortion.

Two-row crossovers might be the answer for 90% of car shoppers, but if you have three

kids, you know the soccer-team carpool can get awfully tight when you're driving a

Jeep Cherokee.

Generally speaking, when you need three rows, you should buy a minivan.

However, we know shoppers are less enamored with sliding doors today than they were in

the '90s, so if you're in the market for a car that will show off your rugged style

and cool-dad vibe, you probably want a 3-row crossover.

CarGurus tested a number of these high-riding people-haulers in 2016, and we'll now see

how they stack up in our 2016 3-Row Crossover Roundup.

Few cars at its price point deliver the look and feel of the Mazda CX-9, with rosewood

interior trim and Nappa leather belying the top Signature trim's sub-$50,000 price tag.

A longer wheelbase helps deliver a smooth ride, and a new 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder

replaces the larger V6, helping Mazda cut 250 pounds in this new generation.

Offering only a 4-cylinder engine in a 3-row crossover raises eyebrows, but the CX-9's

310 pound-feet of torque keep pace, particularly from a stop, and the overall result is a car

George Kennedy describes as the quietest and most luxurious Mazda he has ever driven.

If your rear-seat passengers' comfort is just as important to you as your own, the

Toyota Highlander Hybrid may be the right vehicle for you.

Cliff Atiyeh had a great time in the backseat of his test car, noting its ample legroom,

reclining captain's chairs, and fold-out cup holders.

Driving the Highlander is equally relaxing, as its languid steering feel matches the car's

personality, rather than detracting from the experience, and adds to a quiet, serene environment.

The hybrid drivetrain delivers 280 net horsepower and 28 miles per gallon in combined driving,

although you'll pay for that boosted efficiency.

Toyota is releasing new trims in 2017, with a base LE expected to start at just $36,270,

but the Highlander Hybrid Cliff tested is the most expensive of the 5 crossovers in

this roundup.

The CX-9 and Highlander are nice cars to drive, but if you're in the market for speed, consider

the Ford Explorer.

The Sport trim Chris Wardlaw reviewed produces 365 horses and 350 lb-ft from a 3.5-liter

twin-turbo V6, and while it didn't quite return the EPA's expected 18 miles per gallon

in combined driving, its quick response and great-sounding exhaust note did conjure thoughts

of Jake and Elwood Blues tearing through Chicago.

The Explorer's not a one-trick pony either, with electronic folding third-row seats opening

up nearly 44 cubic feet of space, and a folded second row bringing the total up to nearly

82 cubic feet.

Plus, if your need for speed results in an accident, Ford's inclusion of 911 Assist—with

a free subscription—will call for help as soon as the airbags get deployed.

Speaking of safety, this group is a bit of a mixed bag.

The Mazda CX-9 has yet to be tested by either the NHTSA or the IIHS, but the Ford Explorer

and Dodge Durango both earned only Marginal ratings in the IIHS's small front overlap

test, while the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Nissan Pathfinder are both flawless in their

NHTSA safety scores.

Chris found the Pathfinder a sensible, if not compelling, choice, with a 5,000-pound

maximum towing rating, nearly 80 cubic feet of cargo, and a dependable V6 that has been

winning awards for years.

Still, the lack of competitive infotainment features like Apple Car Play and Android Auto

hold this 3-row crossover back.

At times, it seems each of the Pathfinder's positive qualities is overshadowed by a demerit:

Its 360-degree surround-view camera is hugely helpful with a car this size, but despite

its 5-star rating from the NHTSA, absent safety features like automatic emergency braking

and forward-collision warning prevented the Pathfinder from winning the IIHS's highest

rating.

Finally, Dodge is intent on proving that three-row utility doesn't have to be boring, particularly

when it comes to the Dodge Durango R/T. Its third row is easily accessible, which is nice,

and the base 3.6-liter V6 can almost return 30 miles per gallon on the highway, but those

are hardly the selling points for the Durango.

No, the X factor for this car is its V8.

Specifically, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with nothing hemispherical about it pumping 360 horsepower

and 390 lb-ft of torque to either the rear or all four wheels.

Add a towing package that boosts maximum ratings to 7,400 pounds, and the Durango delivers

a stellar 1-2 combination for big families looking to tow bigger stuff.

Fiat Chrysler's Uconnect infotainment system regularly earns praise, but the unit Mike

Perkins tested was disappointingly buggy, and Dodge isn't putting Android Auto or

Apple CarPlay in Durangos, despite including it in other models like the Charger and the

Challenger.

Which one you choose should depend largely on what you need.

The CX-9 and Highlander Hybrid are clear winners for shoppers interested in efficiency and

luxury, the Pathfinder blends safety with a good engine, and the Ford Explorer Sport

and Dodge Durango R/T will put a smile on the face of any parents with a need for speed.

Thanks for watching.
