Hub and Jerre's Story: PT Is a Family Affair - Duration: 2:13.Years ago I had the choice of taking medication or a operation or PT, and I
chose PT. And since then I have been just crazy about PT, because it helped solve a
lot of problems for me over the years. This is the best PT place I've ever been to.
You know Jim Lewis is terrific, the staff is terrific, I like the location.
I like the physical—the room itself is wonderful. You know you're not
gonna find a better place to go to.
—And my story is quite similar. I have been,
[had] experience with physical therapy at other locations.
I got one-on-one care here, where in other locations the therapists often
would be taking care of three or four patients at the same time. —Good point.
—Jim Lewis has, I think has a doctor's degree in this subject, and he's the most
professional, gentle, caring person that I have known.
On one of my recent occasions I carried several heavy suitcases up and down stairs in an old
Inn in England. A day or so later I could barely walk. I could barely get out of
bed to get to the bathroom. So when I got back to the US, he fixed me up, and
within the first visit or two in fact gave me telephone advice on what kind of
stretches to do that would allow me to get out of bed and be able to walk across the room.
—From England? Did you call him from England?
—No. —Oh, I thought you did.
—But Jim would have taken a phone call from England, even if I'd called collect.
[Laughter] —Yes!
—If anybody's viewing this and you want an ethical, professional, careful, gentle
way of getting yourself in a better situation this is the place.
I believe this from my heart.

What is Parkinson's Disease? - Duration: 1:49.Parkinson's Disease basically is a brain disorder that involves movement - namely
slowness of movement. It can affect other parts of the nervous system as well.
It's a progressive disorder, so it does get worse over time. So, the most common
symptoms that people will recognize will be tremor, stiffness, slowness of movement,
problems with balance. Later on, things like memory, mood.
There can be even fluctuations in blood pressure, constipation, urinary problems as well.
Unfortunately, at this point and there's no cure for Parkinson's Disease. We don't
have anything that slows the progression of the disorder, but it is very treatable,
symptom-wise. I mean, I have patients from living for decades: 10, 20 years.
Some of them still working, on medications and things like that. And everybody's journey
is very different. There's a lot of medical options to treat the symptoms of
Parkinson's Disease. Most of them focus on the chemical dopamine, but there's a
lot of other brain chemicals that are involved and the medications
target those. For more end-stage Parkinson's Disease there's also
surgical options that are also available. The most common side effects of the
medications are usually stomach upset, sleepiness, sometimes there can be drops in
blood pressure. Other times can cause hallucinations, mood changes, abnormal
movements. There's also a physical therapy program called LSVT Big therapy,
which is targeted for Parkinson's patients and it helps with a lot of the
gait and balance issues and a lot of Parkinson's patients really benefit a
lot from that.
