Motorcycle personal injury claims: why using a solicitor who understands is so important - Duration: 2:14.
My name is Helen Shaw and I am the senior litigation manager here at
Potter Rees Dolan. I've been a lawyer for over 30 years. I've been with Potter Rees
Dolan for 18 years and I tend to specialise in dealing with the
catastrophic claims that primarily include spinal cord injury and I have a
special interest in dealing with claims involving motorcycle accidents and
criminal injuries claims as well.
I think what's important for motorcycle claims is that
you do understand, as a motorcyclist, what the issues are because it's possible for
important things to be missed so for example some motorcyclists suffer
scaphoid injuries and they're frequently missed because they don't always show up
on x-ray for up to 14 days after the initial injury. There are a lot of
misconceptions about motorcyclists too - and it's important I think to dispel
those myths. The value of motorcycle claims can vary from hundreds of
thousands of pounds of several million pounds depending on the severity of the
injuries and the financial losses that flow from that. But I think it is important
to have an understanding of those issues to ensure that important things aren't missed
The other really important thing that is worth emphasizing is rehabilitation.
Early rehabilitation; the importance of that can't be underestimated. There are a lot
of motorcyclists who, despite the severity of their injuries,
are keen to get back on a motorbike as soon as they can
with or without adaptations

Is Silicon Valley Over? - Duration: 2:01.
So there was a story in the New York Times and it got a lot of buzz. It was
about a group of venture capitalists - it was a bus tour, kind of a luxury bus tour.
from Silicon Valley to the Rust Belt, and the idea of the story was that people
are considering leaving Silicon Valley for cheaper places in the Midwest and
that Silicon Valley as a thing is kind of over. But it's mostly bogus. You had a
bunch of venture capitalists who took a bus tour. They loved what they saw they
said, "Wow! Wouldn't it be nice to live here?" But but the way I think about it
was - I took a ski trip with my family two weeks ago and I remembered saying to my
wife at one point man, "I could live here in Vermont. "This seems great." And then we
drove home. And that's kind of what this is. We've seen no actual movement of
venture capitalists into the Midwest from either coast, and I don't think
we're going to.
Are you seeing people starting to see opportunities outside Silicon Valley? No question...no
question. And Silicon Valley is great. It will continue to be great. We've never
said in order for the rest to rise Silicon Valley needs to fall, but at the
same time we'll see these other places Baltimore and st. Louis the Madison
Minneapolis and Albuquerque and New Orleans and Atlanta continue to rise.
Are you seeing people actually leave - relocate from tech hubs like Silicon Valley or New York or is it
more kind of interest from afar? It's it's a mix, but for now most of it is
the funds are still located on the coast but at least now are a little more open
to looking at companies and other places. I think there are political reasons why
is this conversation is happening. This past election made people realize that
there is a real disparity of opportunity when you look at venture capital funding.
The majority of it goes to three states California, New York and Massachusetts
and so there's now this proactive effort to say, "Hey - look, there's actually a lot
of opportunity outside of those areas. Let's go find out what's happening there."
