Waching daily Mar 8 2018

- Hey guys, what's up?

I'm Christian Taylor, and today I want to talk about why having an email list as a business

or individual is so important nowadays and why it's overlooked.

So, in 2018, social media is all the rage.

If you're a business or you're just trying to build an individual brand for yourself,

you are surely on social media.

You're posting, trying to create awareness, trying to create buzz and hype around your

brand, but there's something that a lot of you are ignoring.

Email marketing!

I get it, you think I'm some sort of old-school guy who's gonna try and convince you that

email marketing is important and that you shouldn't be on social media and it doesn't

matter.

Actually, that's not what I'm here to tell you.

Social media is absolutely very important, especially nowadays and you do need to be

actively making an effort on that platform to market to people, to build your brand,

and to create awareness.

But, email marketing is so important for several reasons.

Number one is that you can reach a different audience.

So, not everyone is on social media, it's just a fact.

You might think "oh, just the old people aren't on social media."

Guess what?

A lot of old people are now on Facebook and probably not before long they'll be expanding

to Instagram.

So, I don't think that's a valid argument.

I think it's more about personality.

I've met a couple younger people who aren't on social media because they feel like it's

an invasion of their privacy.

So, I think it's more about the demographic.

I wouldn't just discount email marketing saying, "that's only for old people," because I think

you can legitimately reach people in the younger demographic through email marketing who you

couldn't reach through social media.

So, first and foremost, you're going to reach more people and different types of people.

But secondly, and most important, and this is what prompted me to make this video, is

[that] email marketing has no algorithm.

Let me say that again.

Email marketing has no algorithm.

So, what does this mean, and why is it important?

Well, on social media, if somebody follows your brand, at first, they're gonna be seeing

a lot of your posts in their feed, and they're probably going to be interacting with your

brand because it's new in their mind, they just followed you, they're heavily interested

in your brand.

But, as time goes on, inevitably they're going to become a little bit disinterested in your

brand.

This doesn't necessarily mean you're doing anything wrong, this is normal human behavior.

We all have peak interests.

If I follow a brand, I'm gonna be really interested in them for a while.

I might get a little bit distant on social media and become interested in other things,

but then later if I'm invested in that brand, I'll come back around and become interested

again.

So, really, I'm always gonna be somewhat engaged with that brand, but I'm not constantly gonna

be liking and commenting on their stuff all the time.

So, what does this mean?

Well on social media, this is a death sentence because engagement is what causes the algorithm

to put posts high up in the feed.

So, the minute I stop interacting as much with a company on social media, they're going

to drop lower, and lower, and lower in my feed.

The lower they drop, the lower chance that I'm even gonna see their posts.

And before I know it, although I like their page, because for a little while I took a

break from interacting with them, they're gone.

They're not even showing up in my feed where I can see them, and I've forgotten about them

because I'm not seeing them in my feed.

So with email marketing, there is no algorithm.

If I subscribe to an email list and they send an email, it's going to be in my inbox.

It's gonna be at the top of my inbox when they send it, and I'm going to see it.

So, if I were following a brand and they sent me a friendly email once a month, every month

I'd be reminded, "hey, this awesome brand I love is still out there, they're still releasing

products, or they're making content."

Whatever it is you want to share, I'm seeing that in a non-obtrusive way as long as you're

just being respectful and not sending emails too often.

So, hopefully you see why email marketing is so important now.

It keeps people engaged in your brand, and there's no algorithm so you will see consistent

response instead of them having peak interests, fading for a while, having peak interests.

It's a very effective way to stay connected with your audience.

If there's one takeaway from this video, that's it.

Email marketing allows you to stay connected with your audience.

And I wouldn't say that email marketing is to reach a certain demographic.

People of all ages use email, from young to old.

It's just a powerful tool for you to engage with your audience and draw people in and keep

them connected.

So, what do you guys think of email marketing?
