Contouring And Highlighting For Beginners | Glamrs Classics | Pallavi Symons - Duration: 7:38.
Hi, I'm Pallavi Symons, your makeup expert
at Glamrs.com
So, why do you think contouring & highlighting
might be important to a makeup?
Basically contouring and highlighting bring out
your features and they create shapes across your face.
So contours normally bring out
the hollows of your face.
So, if you have high cheekbones
by all means, you know
use a beautiful bronze colour
to deepen the hollows.
Or if you want to bring something forward
highlight it with shimmery products
or lighter toned products.
So, it's a marriage of the two
that makes the face look beautiful
and very very structured.
That's what I'm going to show on Karishma here
She has a very young face.
So, the contours are still there, though they are there
they are barely visible
and with makeup, you can actually
make them come through even further.
So, I'm going to get started.
There's two kinds of brushes that you can use for contouring.
You can use a small headed blush brush
or you can use an angled blush brush.
So, something like that.
Normally for contouring,
you need to use something that's a deep skin toned.
So, I'm using a matte bronze colour.
It's a Mineralize Skinfinish product by M.A.C
It's a deep dark.
So start from the middle of the ear
and almost to the middle of where your
eyeball would be if you looked straight
and just right under the cheekbone.
So you're not using it on the cheek!
This is right under
so you create a kind of shadow.
You can also use it in the hollow right here at the temple.
and along your jawline.
What this will do is,
it will shape the bone structure
it'll reshape your bone structure.
Just under your jaw, not bang on it
because then you can see the
red demarcation between your foundation and
the bronzer.
Make sure that when you're working close
to the sides of your face
you blend the colour off into the hairline.
You can work it along the grooves of your neck as well.
The little hollows right here.
Another great thing that contouring does is
normally when you have large foreheads,
you can use contouring to minimise
So if you're conscious of your forehead
or your jawline and you want to minimize
you darken the areas that you want to minimise.
Also, if you have rounded cheeks,
it's better to work it straight rather than go at an angle.
because if you work that at an angle,
it'll cup your cheek in a way that it looks heavy.
So, if you have heavy cheeks
I would suggest go this way, straight up.
So, you're actually cutting your cheek,
the lower half of your face into half.
So, if you saw that
will be a clearly
very chiseled face on this side
and slightly rounded version on this side.
I'm just going to repeat it on the other side.
Same thing.
Work into your hairline
and along the cheekbone in the hollow
along the jawline and underneath.
Just make sure it's well blended.
Now to go into the second stage of this makeup.
Once you've contoured, you also want to bring back
to the fore, the features that you want to highlight.
So that would be the roundness of your cheeks
the soft roundness of the cheeks.
Most people are under the impression that
if you want to use a bronzer the right way,
you suck in your cheeks.
But you actually may lose proportion of your face if you did that.
So, it's not recommended for everybody.
I would suggest, simply use a bronzer
from the middle of the ear
softly blending it out
to almost the middle of your cheek.
But the colour should be least over here
and darkest close to the ear.
Now, I'm going to proceed to the highlighting
which is exactly the opposite of contouring.
In contouring, you're shaping the face and
highlighting, you're actually rounding the face off.
So where do you put a highlighter?
Normally, after doing this, you want the cheeks to
reattain their roundness and their softness.
So you simply have to use a highlighter
just above this
on the high planes of your cheek.
So you use a highlighter above the bronzer
not on the bronzer but above.
Softly blending it into your temples
and if you have brow bones that are very very big
you can also put a dab of it
on the brow bone.
Just make sure that you don't go too far in
with your highlighter because then it tends to make
your face look oily rather than shimmery.
So, put a good concentrated amount here
and if you can see what it does,
it immediately softens the contour that you created.
I'll just simply repeat on the other side.
So once you pick up your cheekbones
Now the trick is in blending.
Now you can see those two definite marks.
Well, that's with highlights on the cheeks
as you can see.
You can also highlight other planes of your face
like your brow bones.
When you're highlighting your brows
just remember not to bring the product too far in
because that's not normally where light falls on your brow bone.
Just the peak right here.
Under your arch
and sweep it outwards.
When choosing a highlighter, make sure
that it's not too far apart from the colour of your skin.
So, you can choose a soft bronze or
a soft gold, beige, champagne if you're light skin to medium skin.
You can go darker bronze if you're a darker skin toned person.
Another place that's interesting and you'll see
used very widely world across
is highlighting right here.
Just on the
top of your lip
on the cupid's bow because this immediately adds a pout.
If you're highlighting the bridge of your nose,
do it only on the bridge of your nose.
Don't bring the product too far down
or too far up.
You just want to highlight that because that looks
the most flattering.
And if you did this,
mattify these two areas completely.
Again
a tiny bit of highlighter right here
where the brow bone picks up the colour.
Don't use it all over your forehead because again
your face will look oily.
The whole point is that your T-zone needs to be clean and matte.
And just right here where the light catches your chin.
But not in the hollow.
Now, using the same blush brush,
just make sure it's a little clean, just wipe it on a dry tissue.
You start with a blush on the cheek,
and roll it into the bronzer and highlighter.
That way you don't see anything as separate colours.
They all blend and become one.
And still when you turn, only the right things catch light.
So, when you finally look at your face, it needs to look
not like three different colours but as one.
So the easiest guide to highlighting and contouring
is your facial structure.
Wherever there's hollows, contour
and wherever there is a high planes, highlight.
So, I think this is a tutorial that you can take home and
start doing now because it's really as simple as it looks.
Even if you just did this much, it makes a whole lot of
difference to your makeup
and the focus doesn't always have to be
on your eyes and your lips,
the rest of your face comes alive too.
So, give it a shot, it's really not as difficult as it seems.
With the right tools and the right products,
you'll have a very good go at it.

Employee Records You Need For Your House Cleaning Business - Duration: 7:10.
What files should you keep on record for your employees?
It's an excellent question, and we're going to talk about that today.
Hi there, I'm Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner.
This is the show where you get to ask a house cleaning question,
and I get to help you find an answer.
Now, today's show is brought to us by MyCleaningConnection.com
which is a resource hub for all things cleaning.
And in the resource section you will find a whole section on employees, managing, motivating,
and hiring employees, and it's a great place to start for what we're about to talk about today.
MyCleaningConnection.com thanks for sponsoring today's show.
Okay so today's show comes from a house cleaner who has this question.
Chris Hopper: Hi Angela, my name is Chris Hopper, and I would like to know hiring new employees,
what files besides tax records and personal documents do you like to have
on them for their working goals, and so I can notice any patterns, or anything like that,
that I would want to keep on my employees?
Angela Brown: Hey Chris, that is an excellent question, and my answer is this.
Every employee is going to be a little bit different, you will have basic hiring and
firing policies that you will have on record for your employees.
There may be some kind of break down, which is all the different agreements that you have
to run your business.
All of that is going to be on file that the employee has signed, and inside the employee file.
Now, as your business grows you are going to be making up rules to decide and determine
what the new policies are for your particular business.
Now, not all businesses have to do this, but some do.
For example, let's s ay that you have a particular employee that shows up
and they have really bad hygiene.
And so after a few days or weeks the other employees don't want to work around that person
because they have body odor, or they smell, or they don't brush their teeth,
or they never shower, or whatever it is,
and that's a poor reflection on your business.
And so, what you may have to do is create a brand-new policy that wasn't even part of
your business, that now you're going to instill company wide
so that you can address those issues now.
So that is a brand new policy that you're going to create.
As you create a new policy you want to make sure that it number one is in writing, and
number two that you explain it verbally to all of your employees.
And then you get a verbal agreement with them nodding their head saying
"Yes, I understand that these are the new policies that go into effect today."
And then you have them sign the documentation and you give them the copy, so they can take
this home for their records, and then you take a copy and you put it in the employee file.
Now, there will be problems that some companies have, that some companies never address.
For example, some companies have an ear phone, or ear bud policy, where you are not allowed
to listen to music, or podcasts, or books on tape, or whatever, while you're cleaning,
because you go to slow.
And there are other companies that say "Yes, we have an ear bud policy, where you can listen
with one ear bud in your ear, so that you can still pay attention if the home owners
come and go, or if there are dogs barking, or if someone knocks at the door, or what have you."
So there are different policies that occur that until that happens you might not have
a policy in place.
But if you're at a place where you're hiring employees, what you need to be aware of is
there are a lot of things that may creep up, so don't beat yourself up if you don't have
a whole bunch of policies in place from day one, but as those policies happen, as the
need arises and you create those policies, go ahead and put it down on paper.
And like I say, make sure that it's verbal, and in a little meeting where you're like
"Hey, guys, we're changing our rules, and here's why.
Do you understand the new rules, and that they go into effect today?"
And then you can say, "Oh, by the way, I put it in writing, just so you have a copy just in case.
Mind if you sign that, and then I'll put a copy in your employee file that just says
you understand?"
Now, if you ever have to fire this employee for this particular thing,
you have it on file that they understood, and that they signed it.
And you have the date that they signed it so that you know when this went into effect,
and then any time you had to write them up for misappropriation of this particular thing.
Then what you can do is you can reference that also in their employee file.
So things you want to document are are they late?
Do they have so many call outs?
Do they have so many sick days?
Do they have so many vacation days?
What are the agreements that your company has decided?
Is that in writing?
There's also something that I would keep on file, not to nitpick and not to find fault
with your employees, but just as a record.
If you have an employee that is bullying, or bossing other employees or coworkers around,
or if they're antagonistic, or if they are just nitpicky and fighting and irritable,
you need to have a record of that because that might be their demise.
And the day will come where you may need to fire them for those behaviors.
But if you don't keep a running total of those things, and those complaints that come in
from coworkers or customers, then it's really hard to fire a person on that kind of behavior.
And if it's something that you can fix, this might be something that you want to address
personally with the employee, and again, address it verbally, put it in writing, have them
sign it, keep a copy in their file, so that you have a record of when you had a conversation
with this employee about the behavior that needs to change.
Now, it could be that the employee is just really slow, and if they're really slow that
needs to also be documented, you need to have a record of that that says "Hey, we discussed
this particular issue, we upped the training, these are the changes that we made.
We swapped out the services so that they were more comfortable with the tasks that they
were given, so that they could get them done in a timely manner."
And so you want to have all that stuff documented sot that the employee feels a sense of success
in their work, and then number two if you have to let them go for some reason, you have
a documented list of things that have transpired.
All right, so there's no set in stone list of things, but you do want your regular priorities,
and you want the hours of operation, when they get paid, when their lunch breaks are,
all of those agreements, you want all of that in writing.
And then of course you want their 1099, or their W-2, or whatever the forms are, however
you have addressed this particular hire, you want to have all of that in place as well.
So you've got their tax information, you have their payment information, whether you do
direct or deposit, then you will have their bank information.
There are just a bunch of things like that that you're going to need in your employee file,
but check the resource section over at MyCleaningConnection.com
because there's a bunch of stuff there that will help you.
Anyway, I hope that helps, thanks for calling into the show, and until we meet again,
leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.

Advanced Single Leg Balance Squats with Pad for VMO Strengthening & IT Band Syndrome - Vidpt - Duration: 3:13.
Single leg balance squats. This is an advanced exercise that targets the VMO and the gluteus maximus.
This is a terrific exercise for overall leg strengthening.
When doing this exercise there are a few key things. One - try to keep your pelvis balanced.
Two - don't let your knee dive in, and
Three - on the way up you're really gonna fire that glute. That's what really drives you on the way back up.
Now when doing this exercise if you have flat feet and you wear orthotics, then go ahead and wear your orthotics. It's important to maintain
proper posture when practicing this exercise.
I love to do this exercise with a balance pad. The reason being I think it's really important to work the small
stabilizing muscles in your feet and
overall, anytime you can increase and improve your balance, I try to do so. You'll notice that I don't wear shoes
I have flat feet so it's important that I don't let the knee dive in and that I really focus on maintaining proper posture and alignment.
So we're going to line it up.
And
The first motion is actually back, right. I'm going back. It's not just down to squat.
I go back, and then I go into the squat
When starting this you want to work up towards doing ten repetitions
each leg, two sets. If you get really good at it, you can do approximately fifteen repetitions each leg two sets
Overall, it's a terrific leg strengthening exercise
tightens up the VMO,
which helps combat anterior knee pain and additionally you get to work the glutes and strengthen the legs in general
