7 Tips for Drawing Hair • How to Draw Hair - Duration: 7:09.

Hi guys! If you've watched any of my

recent videos you might recognize this

girl.

She is my tutorial head and face that I

created for my Anatomy Hacks: How to Draw

Faces video, and this is sort of a

continuation of that video but one where

I'm going to talk about hair. I don't

really have any "anatomy hacks" per se in

regards to hair but I do have a few tips

and tricks! Before we get into this, all

of my tips are based on illustration

work and are not attempts at realistic

portraits. If you're looking to learn how

to draw realistic hair though I will

include a link to Kirsty Partridge's

tutorial down below, but if you do a

YouTube search for realistic hair you

will find a ton of really great videos.

Tip #1: Draw the head first.

For that matter, giving them a body in

general is a good idea, which is what I'm

doing to my floating head mannequin girl.

Start with a good base. Don't just draw a

face and tack hair on top of it because

the proportions will most likely end up

weird. Hair lines do vary, especially

between genders, but typically a good

place to start is halfway between the

eye line and the top of the head. You can

then raise the hair line depending on

the character. Connie Britton, for example,

has a smaller forehead,

whereas Uma Thurman has a larger one. No

shade towards either of these actresses,

they're just examples of how much

foreheads can vary. Also, as a sub tip,

hair lines are not just curves over the

face. There is a shape to them and they

are fairly flat along the forehead.

Hairlines are another thing that vary a lot,

so do look at reference to see how much

they can change from person to person.

Which brings me to the next tip:

Tip #2: Look at reference.

Yeah, I'm sure you've heard this one but it's

hard to draw what you don't know or have

familiarity with. Look at stock photos,

celebrity photos, and fashion magazines.

When I was learning to draw hair,

I watched a heck of a lot of anime and I

read a ton of comic books. Yeah, neither

are necessarily realistic but it will

prepare you for my next tip:

Tip #3: Don't overcomplicate

things.

The problem with hair or eyelashes or

even eyebrows is that often we have a

tendency to want to draw every single

strand. The issue here is that, yes, hair

is made up of hundreds of teeny little

strands, but there is a form to it and it

is better to define the strands later

when you're adding values so that the

hair doesn't just look like -- well, a bunch

of scribbles all over the head.

If you focus first on the details of the

individual strands and you just draw a

ton of them coming out of the

character's head then you'll end up with

floppy spaghetti hair. There won't be any

interesting texture or shape to it because

you didn't first consider the flow and

movement of hair.

Tip #4: Start by drawing very simple shapes.

They don't need to look nice.

They don't even need to look like hair.

Focus on the flow, on the overall

composition of the piece. Figure out how

you want the hair to drape around the

figure, if at all. If your work is less

realistic don't be afraid to be

stylistic with how you form the hair. Let

it float around the character, let it

create movement in the piece.

Hair catches the wind, it does all kinds of

crazy things. Take it from someone who

regularly gets their hair caught in the

car door.

Tip #5: Hair grows outwards.

It doesn't all grow from the top of your

scalp and fall downwards, unless

you've got some kind of a limp mohawk.

Each strand grows from a different spot

on your scalp and it grows outwards

from the source. Depending on your hair

texture and length it will then either

fall downwards on its own weight or it

will become an afro. There are a myriad

of ways people style and present their

hair so once again I suggest looking at

reference to get ideas for how you would

like your character to have their hair,

you know, grow out of their head. There's

also a ton of hairstyles,

not to mention bangs and partially

shaved haircuts.

Tip #6: Add detail towards the end.

Once you have the basic shapes and the

hair is actually growing out of the head

in a fairly believable fashion, that is

when you can start focusing on the

details. When it comes to adding detail

you want to add interior lines to imply

where the hair groups together or to

define the way the hair is curling or

moving or overlapping. You can add hair

strands separate from the main bulk of

the hair to give it even more movement

and texture.

Again, you don't need to define every

single individual strand, especially in

illustration work. Being sparser with

your lines is often more effective. When

I use an Art Nouveau-inspired style, I

often don't have any interior lines

within the hair at all all. The detail is

reliant on the curling and overlapping

lines I create.

Tip #7: Or just don't add detail.

Often a lot of the definition can be

accomplished during the coloring process.

Especially with afros and other

incredibly curly hairstyles, you might

want to rely on how you add value and

tones to define the curls so they don't

look too stiff and flat from the lineart.

I don't personally draw eyelashes at the

moment in my art. I haven't found a way

to add eyelashes that I particularly

like, but if I ever figure it out

I will do a quick video discussing it.

But as far as eyebrows, a lot of these

tips I've mentioned apply to those as

well. Draw the shapes first so you

capture the mood and emotion of the

character and then add the detail later.

But adding too much detail, especially in

an illustration piece, can make it look

like you've put hairy caterpillars on

someone's face. Oh, and another thing

about eyebrows -- they might grow straight

up kind of towards the beginning where

they start at the bridge of the nose, but

the rest of the eyebrow hair tends to

curve only slightly upwards.

It also doesn't grow horizontally side

to side either. So yeah! Those are my

seven tips for drawing hair. I hope this

eat the good fish the tasty fatty fish but make sure that it is a healthy that

they raised it healthy that it's not farm raised that it it is wild caught

and that it is one of the species that doesn't have a whole lot of mercury so

you want to find something kind of low on the food chain so most small fish and

salmon are generally totally fine the larger predatory fish like tuna and

swordfish etc. They often have tons and tons of mercury because they're high on

the food chain and they accumulate these things over time

avocado is a great great food eat as much as you can

nuts and seeds are also great but you want to try to eat them raw and it also

shouldn't be the majority of your your food it shouldn't be like its own

food group because it has a lot of Omega 6s and you can throw off the balance a

little bit but in general as long as you eat things that are healthy and natural

then the fats occurring in these foods are protected as long as they're in the

food and as long as they're uncooked so you cook them minimally or you eat them

raw and that's how you get the good fats out of them so these fats could be

saturated or polyunsaturated or monounsaturated and the more saturated

fat is the more stable it is because it's saturated it doesn't get oxidized

but the main key is they should be unprocessed so the other category of

fats besides naturally occurring are the added fat so sometimes it's hard to get

enough calories to get enough fat to sustain a ketogenic diet especially if

you're very insulin resistance and you have to cut your carbs way way way back

by only eating naturally-occurring fats and this is where you can go to some

added fats and when people ask me what fats to add I'll tell them three things

above all others because they're inexpensive they're generally good

quality available and I'm talking about butter extra virgin olive oil and extra

virgin coconut oil because you can find these in lots and lots of places you can

find grass-fed organic butter you can find extra virgin organic olive oil and

same thing with coconut oil then if you like you can also if you find good

quality you can also use lard or bacon fat so why are these the good ones

because they are saturated and therefore they are stable and the worst thing

about a fat is when it gets rancid because now it's toxic and it doesn't

matter how healthy it used to be a week ago or a couple of days ago once it's

rancid now it's poison to your body so these are essentially the things that

stay fresh without needing even refrigeration you can prolong it

certain things that you can get cold-pressed and we're talking about

these things are truly processed cold-pressed and they haven't done

anything else to them they haven't filtered them they haven't heated them

they haven't refined them in any way then this is still a healthy food but it

is very very very sensitive to heat and oxygen and it has a terrible shelf-life

and the other thing that people don't like or don't know about these that is

if if they're healthy then they're also gonna have a very strong flavor so a

truly unrefined cold-pressed avocado oil is gonna have a very very strong flavor

same thing with with walnuts or macadamia it's gonna have a strong

flavor of the food it's made from so therefore if you use it for salad

dressings then it'll pretty much take over so if you like that that's still

perfectly fine just keep in mind that they have a short shelf life and they

need to be kept in the fridge or even freezer to last for any amount of time

what makes these good again is that they're minimally processed and for the

top five here they are saturated and that's why they're stable the

cold-pressed is very unstable because it is made from plant material and there's

gonna be a lot of unsaturated Poly-unsaturated oils in there to react with the

oxygen so it's healthy as long as you keep it cold so that's the main thing to

understand about fats that these we use for fuel primarily and these have some

other more detailed purposes but saturated fat is not bad as long as you

keep your carbs down because in the absence of insulin you're going to burn

these fats for fuel and they're going to be very satisfying you're going to eat

less often you're gonna eat less total amount of food because they satiate you

very well so eat unprocessed minimally processed and the butter extra virgin

olive oil and the extra virgin coconut oil are the ones that are widely

available they're inexpensive and they have a stable long shelf life you know

Sometimes you really commit to a bit. If you lock in and people see that you locked in, they get on board with it.

So even if you fail. It may seem intense,

but if you fail doing stand up your first time, you're probably failing in front of,

max, 30 people, 'cause that's the max people that should be at an open mic.

If you're getting what you need to get out of it--progress, experience, exercise--then that's that.

There are no barriers to entry.

You can just do it.

Write. It's pen and paper or typing on computer or typing on your phone.

You may be surprised to find out that more and more people take this type of drug each year.

In fact, according to a number of reports by IMS Health in Europe, use of anti-depression drugs has increased by 20% since 2012.

So, what's going on? Life is getting more and more complicated.

We have more responsibilities and have to reconcile our professional and personal lives, meaning it's not always easy to find balance and happiness.

However, the real question is: Are antidepressants the most efficient way to treat depression? That's what we'll be talking about today.

"Pills for depression and emotional pain": Are they effective?.

Over the past few years, many research studies have attempted to answer this question.

Faced with an increase in the use of antidepressants, a number of medical institutions have attempted to understand whether or not pills are actually helpful.

It all depends on the type of depression that you suffer from.

In terms of light to moderate depression, pills such as Prozac do not have as "wonderful" of an effect as the doctor or patient might expect.

When someone has depression, they tend to think that no one can possibly understand, that no one else can know how they're suffering.

Accept the help that your loved ones offer you, and allow those people who truly care for you to get close to you.

At the same time, you should stay away from people who only bring you more suffering.

You need to establish a "social economy," in which you only open the doors of your heart to people who bring you peace and balance, whereas you have to protect yourself against any toxic people who bring you suffering.

You have the right to fall down, but you absolutely must get up: Today, you're upset, you're suffering, and you feel like you're lost in the depths of depression.

However, you cannot allow this state to become chronic.

Talk with yourself, with others, try to understand yourself, and try to understand where this pain is coming from, before finally accepting it.

Once you understand it, you should try to convince yourself that a life with that much pain is not really living, it's just a dark corner.

It's time to get up and find hope again.

New hopes, new paths: Depression can be defeated by walking, opening up the windows, looking in the mirror and making yourself smile.

The pain will go away little by little as you get involved in new projects, find new hopes and start out on new paths that will definitely bring you happiness.

We all go through dark times in our life, but once you come out of that tunnel, there are new paths worth exploring.

Emotional pain pills are useful, but they are not the only way to get over depression.

Psychological help, social support and you're own willpower are essential.

Greatest Needs For Athletic Facilities- Additional Needs - Duration: 0:39.

(Sarah Cullip '17): I ran for four years and I actually walked on and played basketball my junior year.

We've been really really blessed with these facilities I mean we have, everyone

tells us, all coaches, all the other athletes, you guys are so lucky you're

so blessed to have this these places to train, the turf, and the outdoor track, the

indoor facilities during the winter. We're not having to do workouts out on

the icy sidewalk, you know we're really really probably have the nicest

facilities in the midwest, if not in the nation for D2, that is something that

sets us apart and it's pretty special to be part of.
