Waching daily Aug 1 2018

in this crazy loud and fast-paced world that we live in scientists are warning

that our best health is found in moments of silence how is your noisy lifestyle

harming your health and what can you do about it

when we are considering how to best improve our health there are a number of

factors that immediately come to mind we strive to eat healthier more round diets

eliminating processed foods and sugar at every chance possible sign up for the

local gym or take up running improving our physical activity levels or we

reassess the quality of sleep considering new mattresses blackout

curtains sleep sound machines and any other solution to getting a full

undisturbed night of rest however are we really covering all our bases scientists

and researchers warn that we are overlooking a potential killer in our

midst flying under the radar undetected the big risk factor that most of us are

overlooking noise that may sound crazy to even consider in today's society

especially if you live in a larger city after all the city never sleeps we find

ourselves using sound machines and music to drown out the noises around us in the

hope of creating a calm comfortable environment however even those small

noises that we don't even acknowledge such as the buzz of your computer

running or the hum of many modern-day appliances may have a lasting impact

most of the studies that have currently been conducted revolve around larger

sound levels such as living near an airport or a busy highway but this

information can be applied on a smaller scale in any of our lives for example

one study out of London's Heathrow Airport revealed that the noise

associated with being around aircraft increases your chance of hospital

admission or death dude cardiovascular disease coronary heart

disease or stroke another revealed that just attend

decibel average increase in exposure to aircraft noise led to an increase in

stroke heart attack and high blood pressure that ranged from 7% to 17%

exclamation mark furthermore for those that are currently dealing with mental

health struggles noise pollution is said to be even more irritating known as

noise annoyance this response to noise pollution can create feelings of

irritation annoyance disturbance or upset which when amplified in those that

are already struggling with their mood or mental health can drive people even

further into darkness the increased he rotational so amplify the stress levels

that we are currently experiencing adding to the pressure that it puts on

our body both physically and mentally while noise pollution such as that from

aircraft or traffic will obviously impact our lives on a greater level

researchers warn even the smallest amount of noise is robbing us of the

benefits associated with silence allowing us to balance our minds slow

our heart rates and release the ever mounting level of stress that most of us

carry on a regular basis one of the best moves we can make for our physical

mental and emotional health is to schedule some downtime into our day find

a small block of time even if it's just 10 minutes first thing during your

morning coffee where you can be in the moment push all thoughts of your busy

day ahead the to-do list waiting at the office or the fact the kids are about to

wake up and destroy your presently clean home instead embrace this one brief

quiet moment after all it's for your health

Princess Charlotte is identical to Prince William in new unearthed photo - Duration: 3:14.

Princess Charlotte often gets compared to her great-grandmother, the Queen, but it has come to our attention just how much the young royal looks like her dad, Prince William, after seeing a new unearthed photo of him as a little boy

In the photo, which was taken in 1985 at home in Kensington Palace, William, aged two, is dressed in a striped top and green raincoat, and just like his son Prince George, a pair of shorts and buckle up shoes

William's facial expression in the photo is almost identical to Charlotte's in a photo taken at Prince Louis' christening in July

Both father and daughter have the same shaped eyes, button nose and lip shape, and are even pulling the same facial expression – looking full of concentration!  William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, have worked hard to ensure that their three children have as normal childhood as possible away from the public eye, but this year the young royals have delighted fans with a few surprise appearances

These have included a day out to a charity polo match last month which William was taking part in

Kate took the couple's oldest two children to watch their dad play, and was joined by a group of friends, including Peter Philip's wife Autumn, and her two children Isla and Savannah

MORE: Prince William and Kate go dancing on a Mustique date night - details  The Cambridge family were last spotted out together – and for the first time as a family of five – at Louis' christening

Although it was her little brother's big day, Charlotte managed to steal the show as well

The three-year-old once again perfected her royal wave as she greeted the crowds of photographers waiting outside the St James' Chapel, and even showed her sassy side by telling them that they were not going to be coming into the church

RELATED: This is when Prince George and Princess Charlotte are expected to start bowing and curtsying to the Queen  William dotes on his only daughter, and sweetly described her as a "little joy of heaven" shortly after she was born

He has also opened up about her personality during royal engagements, revealing that she "loves to dance" and that she is a big fan of fashion too

In June, William visited Liverpool where he was gifted a pink satchel for his daughter, which was embossed with her name

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo after the meeting, bag-makers Keith and Gail Hanshaw revealed that he said: "Charlotte will be obsessed with that – I'll never be able to get it off her

What happens when the fourth seal is opened? - Duration: 1:25.

Ankerberg: Mark, the fourth one follows what we're saying here.

You've got war, you've got the consequences.

The Bible says, "So I looked, and behold, a pale horse.

And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him" (verse 8).

Well, what does that mean?

Hitchcock: Well, it tells us there there's just going to be massive death.

In fact, it says there's going to be one fourth of the earth is going to die just in

this one judgment.

Now, we can kind of read over things like that rather quickly and just, you know, kind

of read over that number.

But that's a fourth of the people on the earth.

You know, say there's, after the rapture, there's six billion people left, or something

like that.

I mean, you're looking at, you know, almost one and a half billion people on the earth

dying in one of these judgments.

And we see the severity of this.

And sometimes it's hard to get our minds around because, you know, we see God as a

God of love and a God of grace and mercy, which He is.

But God is going to bring judgment on this earth, unmitigated judgment.

And it says they're going to be slain there by plagues; it says they're going to be

slain by the sword; and it says by the wild beasts of the earth.

And some people wonder what that means, "the wild beasts."

But primarily the other times that word is used, "wild beasts," it refers to powerful

rulers on the earth.

So probably by the actions of dictators.

And the Antichrist is called the beast.

Probably through their actions, you know, millions, billions, of people literally will

die on the face of the earth.

Suicide is OUR problem - (How to help suicidal people and those suffering from mental health issues) - Duration: 7:15.

On today's episode will be speaking about suicide and mental illness and how it's not just

a first world problem or a white problem but OUR problem. So according to the

World Health Organization we know that globally more than 300

million people are suffering from depression and that every 40 seconds

somewhere in the world somebody commits suicide and that the suicide rates have

increased 60% in the last 45 years and so this has become an increasingly

bigger problem in all communities. You know and I'm so grateful that there's so

much more awareness and there was 10 years ago but I'd like to suggest that

we could even be more helpful by tweaking how we speak about suicide and

mental health in general. So often when we talk about somebody who's suffering

from depression or addiction or suicide, often it's like we see them as those

unfortunate people who need help, it's almost like we feel sorry for them or

sometimes you even hear a sense of pity. It's like we see them as the other and

not like us and I want to suggest that you know not only is that not helpful

it's sort of disrespectful and it drives more disconnection and shame for the

person who's going through difficulty. Ok so let's look at an example, so if

somebody says 'Oh I don't understand what the point of life is, I can't get out of

bed I don't feel motivated' and you know that makes you very uncomfortable and so

you respond to it 'Oh maybe you should see a mental health professional because

I don't really know how to help you.' So what that translates to the other

person is that what I'm going through must be so bad that they don't even

understand what I mean so maybe I'm beyond help

I must be messed up so that drives that I'm so lonely feeling to begin with

which increases the risk of suicide and depression but instead if you said 'Oh

I'm not sure what to say but I'm glad you told me and I'm here for you

tell me more' which is an example of an empathic response but that will more

likely to leave the person being connected

and remember there isn't really anything that you can say or do for them that can

really take away their feeling but giving them a sense of feeling that you

understand them and that they are not alone

it really goes a long way. So this is it, so that's the bottom line is that

empathy fuels connection and pity drives disconnection which makes them feel

worse and empathy is, it's a very difficult choice to make because it's

it's hard right because you have to connect to a part of yourself that knows

that feeling right you'd have to be able to connect to your own pain and so you

know it's a humbling experience and that's why a lot of people don't do it.

Ok so lets look at the difference between empathy and sympathy.

So let's look at how to practice empathy, so let's begin by looking at

the work of Theresa Wiseman and Kristin Neff, so there's like five or

six steps that we can use in order to develop empathy for the person who is struggling

I also wanted to share Pema Chodron's quote with

you, when she says that, "Compassion is not a relationship

between the healer and the wounded it's a relationship between two equals and

only what we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of

others and compassion becomes real when recognize our shared humanity"

I remember when I worked for a suicide hotline and this was at the very beginning of

my career and honestly it was just a four week simple training where all they

did was teach us how to have respect for them and not freak out and be

curious and show them sort of compassion and love and

until today always surprises me how that's all I had to do in order to take

them away from that panicky feeling and all I had to do was just show them

compassion and common humanity and again and again I would see that the panic

feeling would go away but the bottom line is that we can only do that if we

know ourselves and we know our own pain.

This is How You Hack A Neural Network - Duration: 3:42.

Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.

This is a mind-boggling new piece of work from scientists at Google Brain on how to

hack and reprogram neural networks to make them perform any task we want.

A neural network is given by a prescribed number of layers, neurons within these layers

and weights, or in other words, the list of conditions under which these neurons will

fire.

By choosing the weights appropriately, we can make the neural network perform a large

variety of tasks, for instance, to tell us what an input image depicts, or predict new

camera viewpoints when looking at a virtual scene.

So this means that by changing the weights of a neural network, we can reprogram it to

perform something completely different, for instance, solve a captcha for us.

That is a really cool feature.

This work reveals a new kind of vulnerability by performing this kind of reprogramming of

neural networks in an adversarial manner, forcing them to perform tasks that they were

originally not intended to do.

It can perform new tasks that it has never done before, and these tasks are chosen by

the adversary.

So how do adversarial attacks work in general?

What does this mean?

Let's have a look at a classifier.

These neural networks are trained on a given, already existing dataset.

This means that they look at a lot of images of buses, and from these, they learn the most

important features that are common across buses.

Then, when we give them a new, previously unseen image of a bus, they will now be able

to identify whether we are seeing a bus or an ostrich.

A good example of an adversarial attack is when we present such a classifier with not

an image of a bus, but a bus plus some carefully crafted noise that is barely perceptible,

that forces the neural network to misclassify it as an ostrich.

And in this new work, we are not only interested in forcing the neural network to make a mistake,

but we want it to make exactly the kind of mistake we want!

That sounds awesome, but also, quite nebulous, so let's have a look at an example.

Here, we are trying to reprogram an image classifier to count the number of squares

in our images.

Step number one, we create a mapping between the classifier's original labels to our desired

labels.

Initially, this network was made to identify animals like sharks, hens, and ostriches.

Now, we seek to get this network to count the number of squares in our images, so we

make an appropriate mapping between their domain and our domain.

And then, we present the neural network with our images, these images are basically noise

and blocks, where the goal is to create these in a way that they coerce the neurons within

the neural network to perform our desired task.

The neural network then says tiger shark and ostrich, which when mapped to our domain,

means 4 and 10 squares respectively, which is exactly the answer we were looking for.

Now as you see, the attack is not subtle at all, but it doesn't need to be.

Quoting the paper: "The attack does not need to be imperceptible to humans, or even subtle,

in order to be considered a success.

Potential consequences of adversarial reprogramming include theft of computational resources from

public facing services, and repurposing of AI-driven assistants into spies or spam bots.".

As you see, it is of paramount importance that we talk about AI safety within this series

and my quest is to make sure that everyone is vigilant that now, tools like this exist.

Thank you so much for coming along on this journey, and if you're enjoying it, make sure

Reasons Exercising Is The Worst: TBH - Duration: 5:12.

I want my money back, money back, money back

I want my money back, money back, money back

I want my… Chiiiiiiiilis

give me my money

Hey everyone! My name is Matt Bellassai

and this is TO BE HONEST

a weekly video series where I get drunk

in the middle of the day

and tell you how to live your life.

On this week's episode

Because I shouldn't have to exercise for my body to feel better

My body should feel better

because I DESERVE it.

But first, let's drink!

Ooogh, it's a sour one!

Ok.

That's enough, I think.

Alright. First of all…

What the fuck is spinning?

I went to a spin class once

and you know what they said, they said,

"Sir… we're gonna need you to stop twirling around in circles."

And I said, "Well, excuse me"

"for thinking this was a class for human merry go rounds"

"and not for a bunch of people who want to sit on bikes"

"and go nowhere."

My ancestors

the neanderthals

didn't invent the wheel

so you could sit on your ass

and do NOTHING.

Also what the fuck is Barry's bootcamp?

Who is paying to go to a bootcamp?

I'm not going to war.

I'm just trying to give myself an excuse

to eat another pan of lasagna every night.

Also, yoga isn't even exercise.

It's just fancy stretching.

Yoga is fake exercise

that moms do

so they can stop themselves from shoving all their kids

out of the minivan on the highway.

NEXT!

What do I even need muscles for anyway?

Opening a jar of delicious pickles?

That's what male prostitutes are for.

And why can't we have practical exercises

for things I actually need to train for

Like for how to find my Apple TV remote

because I know it's around this goddamn apartment somewhere

and I can't fuckin find it.

Then people are always like, "Oh, let's go hiking."

Why would I go hiking when escalators exist?

That's what modern technology is for.

You're looking science right in the face

and you're saying, "Fuck you science."

"We don't need your fancy moving stairs."

"We're gonna go climb a hill!"

That's offensive to Earl Escalator

the inventor of the escalator.

Then people are like, "But if you get to the top, you get to see the view."

Motherfucker, that's what Google is for.

Why would I scale a dirty mountain

when I can get that view right here on my phone.

Look, here's a picture of Mount Everest.

Congratulations, a bunch of people died for this view.

And we got here just through Google. We saw it.

This is Mt. Everest

and we just hiked it.

Then there's running.

Who runs?

Name one time when running was necessary.

Except for chasing a pigeon

that stole your beef sandwich.

Because pigeons can't even enjoy beef sandwiches

because they don't understand that they have to dip it

in the "au juice."

NEXT!

There are too many masters in exercising.

Stairmaster?

Thighmaster?

This is 2018

Abraham Lincoln said cut that shit out

That's what he said. He said, "No more masters."

Also he said

"Your thighs are thick and juicy"

"and beautiful just the way they are."

And then he kissed me on the lips.

Also what is a treadmill even?

What do I look like, some kind of deli meat

on a grocery store conveyor belt?

Just moving along cause the teenage grocery store person

forgot to put the little conveyor belt divider

in front of the little laser that makes it stop.

That's why my favorite treadmills

are the ones in airports.

Because they take me right where I wanna go.

The Cinnabon.

And finally

Sweating is god's punishment

for moving too much.

If I wanted to sweat profusely

and also fear for my life

I'd go to Chilis.

Alright everybody!

Thank you for watching this week.

As always, you can find new videos of To Be Honest every week on Facebook.com slash Matt Bellassai.

You can follow me and all my projects<font color="#ff0000"> </font>on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at matt bellassai.

You can listen to my podcast Unhappy Hour on iTunes or wherever else you get podcasts.

And that's it. That's everything.

Thank you for watching. See ya next week.

Buh bye.

Gelato

That's the puppet master from Pinocchio

Fun fact.

Gelato

That's what Pinocchio say

He says, "Gelato."

"Mr. Gelato."

This is Development // Alder Hey Children's Hospital - Duration: 2:19.

- Alder Hey's got a real place in the history of Liverpool.

Because we're such a big children's hospital,

there's not a single post code in the country

that we don't take a child from.

And that unfortunately involves moving children

quite a distance to come here.

So how could we not disrupt that child?

And we now have this amazing new hospital

trying to develop a technique

where we could use immersive augmented reality.

- We are absolutely surrounded

an explosion of technology that we don't use in medicine.

We need to use the technologies around

that we use every day at home, every day in the office,

every day in different parts of our life

applied to medicine.

Because that would help us to improve

the way that we look after the patients

and improve the way that we deliver health care.

There is a project that we've been working

called a HoloLens, which enables me

to use augmented reality.

We've been working with a company called Black Marble.

- We've worked with Alder Hey's innovation team

to produce applications using

the universal Windows platform

on HoloLens and Surface Hub.

These collaboration applications allow

multiple surgeons from different disciplines

to collaborate on the patient records

using the Surface Hub and visualize those

during surgery on the HoloLens.

- The use of HoloLens for distant consultations,

you don't need to travel to the hospital to do that,

so I'm able to visualize,

I'm able to interact in their environment.

So it's what we call hospital at home,

but the true hospital at home

and a true doctor at home.

- Watching Rafael develop this platform

has been really exciting for me.

You know just imagine the possibilities of this.

That is really what we're about as an innovation hub,

it's facilitating our best people

to get out there and do extraordinary things.

- We are absolutely passionate about that.

We live and dream with innovation.

Not just because we invent things,

it's because when we do something

it's to change healthcare, and that would be huge.

I love being a mother.

And not everybody does, and that's okay.

I mean, you don't have to give

everything over to this little person.

You just have to make some room for her. Or him.

It's a girl.

The heart actually does expand.

I-I have no idea how it does it,

but it seems to always be able to make room for children.

Helen...

I'm passing my guru baton to you this evening.

-Oh, please don't. -[laughter]

I...

I have to.

Tonight belongs to you.

[applause]

What happens if my husband loves a baby

-more than he loves me? -Well, he won't.

And my boyfriend wants to get pregnant.

I'm not so sure about him,

but I want to really have a kid, so should I just do it?

-No. -[others] No.

Don't do that.

Like, what if I don't find a man in time?

Should I just do it alone?

You can, but it's very hard.

But, I mean, that's why you guys have each other, right?

Why you have this group?

Look, I want to be honest with you.

No matter how many new moons

or tropical Libras you circle under,

the only way out of this thing is through it.

I mean, and you can talk to astrologers or gurus or shamans,

but the only thing that really works

is living and making choices and making mistakes,

and then eventually,

you get old enough...

and you start to figure shit out.
