Andy Murray's brother-in-law is youngest to trek to South Pole solo

British Army officer achieves feat on Christmas Day. Andy Murrays brother-in-law has become the youngest person to reach the South Pole solo.

Scott Sears, the brother of Murrays wife Kim Sears and a lieutenant in the First Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles, pulled a sled and supplies for 38 days through 150mph winds in temperatures of -50c.

He completed the 702-mile trek at the South Pole on Christmas Day, 12 days earlier than planned. Lt Sears carried out the trek for charity.

Antarctic Ghurka wrote on its Facebook page that the trek was an effort to raise £25,000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

It added: The 1100km journey from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole is the equivalent of walking from London to the Czech Republic. its just a bit colder.

and there are crevasses to fall into. and you have to drag all your food and shelter with you. but otherwise its basically the same.

The BBC reports that the first part of the journey from Hercules Inlet, where sea ice meets land in Antarctica, is considered the most dangerous part, as the ground is riddled with crevasses.

Lt sears was not roped to a teammate who could help stop him from falling, and used skis to cross the ice.

The 6ft 5in soldier pulled a sledge containing all of his food, fuel and equipment that, at more than 100kg (220lb), was heavier than him.

He said at points he hit a wall, and on Christmas Eve felt like he couldnt take another step, but persevered.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: Its been an amazing 5 weeks, very tough at times but it all feels worth it now. Ive been alone in a tent for nearly six weeks so its all a bit overwhelming.

I cant wait to have a shower and get some food in me. Ive been dreaming about it since day 3!. He admitted that his mum had not initially been keen on the idea, but was very supportive.

He said: She is eternally suffering because of me, I thought I managed to annoy her the most I possibly could when I joined the infantry and then I chuck this on her as well.

I dont think shes slept for 38 days and she is as tired as I am. Andys mum Judy congratulated Sears on Twitter. Lt Sears hopes to make it back to London in time for New Years celebrations.

Stephanie Davis exceptionally upset as Jeremy McConnell is released from prison Kingdom Showbiz - Duration: 3:40.

Jeremy McConnell served just 34 days in jail after failing to adhere to the terms of his community service.

The former Celebrity Big Brother star walked out of prison today following a successful appeal after being found guilty in August of assaulting Stephanie and being handed a twenty week suspended sentence.

Former Hollyoaks star Stephanie is reportedly 'not happy' by today's news, after Jeremy was welcomed home after leaving HMP Cardiff.

A source told The Sun: 'Steph had to watch Jeremy walk free the first time round and now he's been let out early, it's like he's got off scot-free all over again.

'She's extremely upset at the decision. People are rallying around her as best they can.' The insider added: 'Steph walked away from the public eye to get herself back on her feet and she's been doing really well.

'Today's news has knocked the wind out of her sails and she's not happy.' OK! Online has contacted a representative for Stephanie Davis for comment.

Meanwhile Jeremy wrote on to say thank you to his friends and followers for their ongoing support, telling them: 'Thanks for all your messages. I've read so much lies and it's incredible. Have a good New Year.'

He was originally arrested and found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Davis while she was holding their now-11-month-old son Caben.

The 27-year-old reality star narrowly missed out on prison for the crime in August and was slapped with 200 hours of community service in August after he was found guilty.

As well as his community service, Jeremy was also ordered to pay £1,000 in court costs, £1,000 in compensation to Stephanie and a victims surcharge of £115.

He's also been told to steer clear of Stephanie for three years and any communication regarding Caben has to be done via social service, his solicitor or the family court.
