How Germany's Far Right Stole a Rallying Cry for Democracy | NYT News - Duration: 2:22.

"Wir sind das Volk."

In German it means, "We are the people."

This chant echoed through the streets of Chemnitz, Germany,

this week, as far-right protesters set out

to vent their frustrations, create mayhem and attack refugees.

It was also heard in Clausnitz in early 2016,

as a mob of Germans surrounded a bus of refugees entering

their town.

And later that year in Bautzen,

as 80 Germans chased some 20 teenage refugees

through the streets.

The chant has become a go-to for the German far right.

But it wasn't always an extremist rallying cry.

"Leipzig is a city of protest again tonight."

In 1989, people in East Germany took to the streets

to demand more freedom, after living

under an oppressive communist regime for decades.

Their movement was neither of the right nor the left.

It was a cry for democracy.

After German reunification,

the chant largely disappeared.

But in recent years, it has been

co-opted by far-right groups

who violently oppose Angela Merkel's open border policies.

3 Mainstay Pillars You Should Have for a Sustainable Small Business Online Presence | Umark Ed. #02 - Duration: 3:20.

Hi, I'm Kyle with Umark

Being a small business owner can be a lot of work, keeping up with your day-to-day operations, managing your marketing,

dealing with your team and making sure your bills get paid on time. It's hard enough work on its own now.

How do you do all of that stuff and keep a good online presence? Cause we all know that in today's market especially in Calgary,

managing and building your online brand and presence is everything. Today

I want to talk to you about the three most important pillars to building a successful online brand.

So when it comes to building your online presence,

a lot of people want to start with like their Facebook campaigns or Instagram or building your website.

But the first thing and most important thing is your content. What are you gonna fill those pages with? What's the message

you're gonna be putting on your social media platforms? Building your content, making it unique and

specific to your business, is the most important thing when it comes to building your online presence.

Now, how you deliver that and where people go to engage it? That's a different story.

We'll be talking about that in the next point.

So once you've got your content in place, the second most important piece of the puzzle is your house.

Your house is your website.

It's where you store all the information about your products and your services.

Now, how you display that and represent that is important.

It's important to have good copywriting, good visuals with pictures and videos, and information and things like blogs.

Now the other piece of the website - it allows you a platform in order to track the progress of your marketing campaigns to know how

well you're reaching and getting to new customers. So

lastly if you have great content and a place to store it like a website, the final thing is distribution.

How are you going to get your message out to your potential customers or your current customers. And the answer social media. Things like

Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube.

How do you know which is which? Each one holds a specific demographic and a certain type of client.

So choosing the right platform for your business is very important. And

now not only choosing the platform, making sure that the content that you put on the platform is catered for it.

What you put on Facebook would be different than what you put on Instagram, would be different than what you put on YouTube.

You have to think of Instagram and all these social platforms like coffee shops or places where people hang out.

People open them up every day and engage on them and use them talking to friends, looking for family vacations, things like that.

So when your content comes across them in their feed, it has to be 1)

interesting enough

to make them stop what they're doing and engage it. and 2) be clear concise and

interesting enough for to want to click out to your website or to wherever you need to take them in order to make a sale.

These three pillars that we talked about today are the essence of creating a good online presence.

If you get them all together and match the content across all of them,

you'll be well on your way to building a good online brand.

Shifting the narrative for LGBTQ youth of color | As You Are - Duration: 1:01.

My mother, who, when I first told her

that I was gay, she called me an abomination.

You know, she said that, "You're already black."

And took me many, many years

to understand what she meant when she said that.

But I'm grateful that I took the time to

invest in understanding what her history is,

as a woman of color from the south.

She was really afraid for what the world would do

to me for being a black gay man.

I can report now that my mom

and my fiancé, they text, and they tweet

and she calls the house and asks for him

and not even me now, right?

But it's just wonderful to see the power of love.

The work that this project is going to do

to tell more stories of acceptance of folks

of color, is really going to be what helps to

shift the narrative.

I believe that we're on a path of growth

and transformation and evolution,

and the youth of our future

are going to play huge roles in that.

Google Home New Updates and New Features for August 31, 2018 - Duration: 10:19.

Hello everyone. Thanks for tuning in

again. I have an incredible amount of

both Google Home and Google Assistant

updates, new features and new products to

go through with you this week. Let's get

started. Alright so the very first thing

that I'm going to talk about this week is

Google Home and Google Assistant

integration with the Nest Yale X Lock. Now

you might have expected that to work

long ago, but it hasn't and it just does

on August 29th for users around the

world. So go ahead if you have a Nest

Yale X lock there in your home, go ahead

get that integrated, get it working. Of

course the unlock feature is not going

to work with your Google Assistant. Still,

you can lock the device and what's very

interesting to me is you can include

that in your routines. I think for the

most part people have heard of the Swann

cameras. There is now a set of Swann

cameras out on the market that has

Google Assistant capability. So these are

the newest 4k cameras and the only 4k

cameras actually as far as I'm concerned

with the capability of having Google

Assistant integration. What you'll need

is either a Google Home and a Google

Chromecast or a device with Google

Assistant on it, and again Google

Chromecast. So casting capability to go

ahead and see either a live feed or a

recorded feed if you'd like. Now here is

where I start to talk about Google

Assistant and all of the things it's

being added to, and this is a wild list

this week. Now we all knew that the

Chromebooks were supposed to be

getting Google Assistant capabilities on

many of them. Our recent models we've

seen that come out on some of the very,

the flagship models, that Google has

created, but we haven't seen them kind of

walk back in terms of their deployment

of the Google Assistant. This week what

we're starting to see, is the addition

in Chrome OS of a Google Assistant

launch button. Now it's not out there yet

for all devices still, but we are seeing

movement being made on that, on that

side of progress for Chrome OS. So Google

Assistant being added to more

Chromebooks in the near future. As we all

know, the Google Home and the Google

Assistant we're launched in India this

year and Google has been working hard in

this marketplace. I'm surprised at how

hard and how fast they're going into

this, and getting different language

support. So on that note they now have

the Marathi language support. They're

available for those of you who speak

that language. Now this is part of their

big plan of getting all of these

localized languages and getting those

all up with support on the Google

Assistant and the Google Home device. So

stay tuned for more there, there's more

coming. Like I said the Google Assistant

is ending up everywhere here, and Android

Messages is a service that Google

produced a while ago actually, but

they're now integrating Google Assistant

with that, and it's interesting as you

look at the screenshots that are

starting to come out, this isn't a fully

deployed functionality, but as the

screenshots come out, you can see where

the Google Assistant is essentially

reading your messages, and some people

might have concerns with that, but

reading your messages and providing

options for you to go ahead, use the

Google Assistant, and drive the

conversation in a different way. Another

feature that we've seen being deployed

here is the news feature. We know Google

News got that big update very recently.

One of the things that we talked about

in our last Google Home and Google

Assistant new features, new updates video

is actually the integration of Google

News along with your Google Home. So

users in the United States and some

other countries were able to get the

news directly from their Google Home

device. Now what's happened this week is

Google has started to talk about

basically customizing or giving you

options

for that news. And one of the options

that they're providing is just a good

news service. Now that good news service

you're going to be able to ask for with

a simple keyword or command, which is

just "tell me something good" and it will

start, essentially, what is your news

briefing with only positive stories

within it. So I think this is a really

good thing personally. I'm kind of tired

of reading negative things on the news

or hearing about negative things. I like

to hear the better side of news. Like I

said it's Google Assistant everywhere

and I think this is a little bit

expected with the new Pixel 3. What we're

actually seeing, some of the demos and

some of what's being revealed by Google

right now, is actually showing the Google

Assistant replacing the voice search

capability on the new Pixel 3, and it

looks like that could become a bit of a

retroactive change in new versions of

Android devices. Now again this isn't

ready for a deployment, but we're getting

there on this one. The Google Assistant

and even the Google app. So basically,

your account with Google is getting a

new UI, and this is for the settings page.

And what I'll say is the settings page

has started to become quite large when

we talk about devices like the Google

Home, the Google Assistant, and you know

the other Google Apps. It's starting to

get a little too big, so Google is

working on a redesign that I will say is

more based on functional components of

their different apps and services. I

personally like the look, it feels a

little more personalized, a little more

in tune with what I'm doing with the

Google Home and Google Assistant, and

a number of the Google services that we

talked about, but ultimately it's looking

a lot better to me. We still have to wait

for deployment. So I feel like I've been

talking about Google Assistant for a

while here guys, so I'm going to rip through

some of the new devices we're seeing, a

lot of new devices come because of the

IFA conference going on in

in Germany this year, right away. Now what

we're seeing is from LG. We've seen a

number of product lines. Now we know the

ThinQ TVs have the Google Assistant

on board if you have a 2018 model. The

2017's will not be updated, that's the

statement right now from LG, but if

you're in a number of countries:

Australia, Canada, France, Germany, South

Korea, Spain, and the UK, and you speak

some of those other languages other than

English in those countries, you're going

to get Google Assistant support here

right away on your ThinQ TV. Now on top

of that, we're seeing a device from LG

called the tone headphones. There's

there's a version called Tone Platinum

SE. Those headphones will have Google

Assistant on board, it's a touch button

instead of the wake word to actually

trigger on your Google Assistant. And the

other devices that they're showing at

the conference this year is called the X

Boom series of speakers. Now these are

supposed to be big, loud, strong

speakers, and what has happened is

there's an AI or an X Boom AI device

with the Google Assistant on board as

well. We know Harman Kardon has produced

a smart speaker in the past with Cortana

on board actually, and now they have Alexa

integration, but what they haven't done

is gone out and produced something

specifically with Google until now. The

Citation 500 is a $700 USD speaker that

is being unveiled here with Google

Assistant on board. They have a couple of

different color options, it's a very soft

looking speaker, and that's being

revealed as well here right away.

Bang & Olufsen or B&O, this is a

pretty premier brand they have a BeoSound

set of speakers. There's a BeoSound

one and a BeoSound two. They are

$1,700 and $2,200 USD respectively, and so

there are an incredibly pricey speaker,

but they are now getting Google

Assistant on board. There's basically

four control buttons up on top of these

speakers that give the

opportunity to use Google Assistant

in some different ways.

Finally this week, the JBL Link Bar, this

was a device we heard about a long time

ago, actually back towards Google I/O in

this year. We heard about this device. We

now have a ship date and a pre-order

opportunity from JBL. It has the Google

Assistant on board as well, and it's

around $400 USD here. It'll ship in

October, so you have the opportunity to

go out and get that bar right now. It is

getting some pretty positive reviews, and

I will tell you that in general these

new devices, what I'm seeing especially

from the Lenovo Smart Display that I

just picked up, they are incredible and

they are working very well. These

companies have done very well with the

Google Assistant integration. What

remains to be seen is how our Google

Home app and our ability to cast, and our

ability to use these different services

actually comes out with lots of these

devices. So that's what I'll tell you is

really important to pay attention to

right now, is what are you going to be

able to cast. So there you have it

everyone. Thanks for watching. We'll see

you next time.

Arsenal's predicted line-up vs Cardiff revealed as Unai Emery aims for first Premier League away win - Duration: 2:26.

Unai Emery is unlikely to ring the changes as Arsenal aim for their first away victory of the season against Cardiff

The Gunners grabbed their first three points of the season in a 3-1 win over West Ham last Saturday - with Nacho Monreal and Danny Welbeck both getting on the score sheet either side of an own goal

But what will Emery go for against the Bluebirds, with Laurent Koscielny (Achilles), Sead Kolasinac (knee), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (leg) and Carl Jenkinson (ankle) all missing

In goal, Petr Cech is set to keep his place for a fourth game in a row, with summer signing Bernd Leno still awaiting his Premier League debut

Emery is also ready to name the same defence that only shipped a single Marko Arnautovic goal at the Emirates last week

That means Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal will line up at full-back either side of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi

The midfield should also remain unchanged with Matteo Guendouzi keeping his place ahead of fellow summer recruit Lucas Torreira - who came on after less than an hour last week

The Frenchman will accompany Granit Xhaka in the centre of the park, with the duo tasked with protecting the back four

The only suggested change from the Hammers win is the return of Germany international Mesut Ozil - after he missed last week through illness

The attacking midfielder will probably replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a three alongside Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi playing behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal predicted team: Cech, Monreal, Papastathopoulos, Mustafi, Bellerin; Guendouzi, Xhaka; Ozil, Ramsey, Iwobi: Aubameyang

Fighting For Freedom of Thought - Duration: 2:01.

When I was just three years old my sister and I were adopted from an orphanage in Ukraine.

I love my family and I could never have asked for a better one, but I've never been able

to shake that feeling that I've been missing a part of myself.

In post Soviet Ukraine government corruption ran rampant.

Religious and academic institutions faced enormous challenges and democracy itself was

not guaranteed.

I left a people on the verge of a revolution and had a completely different life than I

would have otherwise.

Since 2003, Notre Dame's Nanovic Institute for European Studies has made a commitment

to Catholic education in Eastern Europe including the Ukrainian Catholic University.

During my sophomore year Notre Dame gave me the opportunity to come to the Ukrainian Catholic

University and share our educational values.

Over the last 15 years, Notre Dame's Catholic university partnership has helped to connect

a half dozen East European Catholic universities.

Only five years ago, the revolution of dignity was met with deadly violence.

I am reminded every day why we need to stand up against corruption while working to prepare

the next generation of leaders.

Right now, we live in a time of uncertainty especially here in the shadow of the former

Soviet Union.

We understand that the Iron Curtain could come down again, so we're working hard to

build bridges among these universities that will help them speak truth to power.

Being here taught me how I can make a difference allowing me to give back to the country of

my birth.

LV5_Papermancer: Oh yeah, first season of Walking Dead is super good but it makes me dead on the inside.

Wiseblood_79: It was nice to get funny Telltale again. I miss the Sam & Max games.

Lrrose20: Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy tried to be funny, but all of the jokes were just repeats from the movies. I think all the funny writers left

LV5_Papermancer: I think the max is 450 stacks.

Blastoise_M: according to wiki, with that class mod it goes up to 600

TracyPowell: It goes so high up smgs shoot behind you

LV5_Papermancer: Just having around 200 stacks is already chaotic. 450 is where I have the most fun because it's just getting right up to the enemies and shotgunning them.

LV5_Papermancer: And making mad dashes between enemies and cover.

Wolfcau: I see the physX is working.

Blastoise_M: stacks on stacks on stacks

LV5_Papermancer: More stacks for the stack god!

LV5_Papermancer: I always found that the hyperion black hole grenades the toughest to use effectively.

LV5_Papermancer: Singularity grenades, I mean.

Blastoise_M: man I've been playing a lot of destiny lately and I keep reflexively wondering "why aren't they double jumping"

LV5_Papermancer: Jesus, Panzer just vaporized that guy.

MrTrampoline: Is there a mod/cheat you're using to make so much rare stuff spawn? I haven't played BL2 in years but I don't remember it being this generous at low levels

amwhere: The glory of single/coop games - it ain't cheating, it's increasing your fun!

Blastoise_M: the lyrics to the song the robot plays in the bar are... something

LV5_Papermancer: Talking gun is better than boring shield.

Blastoise_M: the shield is an absorb shield that yells when it absorbs ammo

Lrrose20: I like being a gun too

UriclubTk: Man I haven't seen any Borderlands gameplay in a long time. Brings back memories. Sup

LV5_Papermancer: watSup

MrTrampoline: also weirdly enough I had a friend who messaged me today and was like "I've never played BL2 before, is it fun? is it worth playing?" and I wasn't sure how to answer him lmao

Morathian: watThe

Rirse: how powerful was your Wilheim in Pre-Sequel?

UriclubTk: I feel like you either play through all of borderlands, through one third of it or you never get past tutorial area

Lrrose20: Playing as Athena was fun. Her shield is very useful against bosses

lamphiear: Wilhelm is a beast in the tps

UriclubTk: The shield mechanic was pretty fun on itself tbh

Blastoise_M: hey it's mordecai and his good friend for life bloodwing

Rirse: nothing bad will ever happen to bloodwing

LV5_Papermancer: I played as Misha my first time through TPS.

Lrrose20: I like Moist Craig's hat

UriclubTk: The one thing I don't like about Nisha is that she is pretty bad with a bit of latency

UriclubTk: What with the bullets being host side

Lrrose20: What have I done

Edmond_SA: This is your fault.

LV5_Papermancer: Then I played as... Hammerlock's sister and had a lot of fun.

Edmond_SA: This is on you.

Lrrose20: Oh boy, time to see one of the best voice actresses in the business in a cringy role

Rirse: she pretty good in Life is Strange

UriclubTk: Hammerlock's Sister was ice lady right? Memory is fuzzy

LV5_Papermancer: Ashley is super good as Aloy.

Blastoise_M: video idea: a bunch of scenes of life is strange with tiny tina's dialogue edited in

lamphiear: Mordacai was my favorite character in BL1, his trespass skill destroys

Rirse: that was her intro

Lrrose20: Her psycho mask did a weird physics thing

Blastoise_M: actually I really wanna see chloe say "daaaayum you lookin fine ladies!"

UriclubTk: I remember when I liked Tiny Tina a lot more.

UriclubTk: Sure was a lot younger

llabruf: i'm here to shitpost

llabruf: hi

UriclubTk: Ain't we all.

manylots: brick an tina

LV5_Papermancer: Who cares about the story, give us Brick and Tina.

UriclubTk: I remember Psycho being pretty broken at high levels, yeah?

Edmond_SA: CLAP TRAP'D

Edmond_SA: Oh. deathtrap. :V

Rirse: All You Had to Do Was Follow the Damn Train, Moist Craptrap

Blastoise_M: I checked and nobody has dubbed over chloe with tiny tina in a video yet

LV5_Papermancer: This certainly doesn't sound like a trap.

Rirse: remember how the first Borderlands had Gamespy for multiplayer

Lrrose20: Gaige > Torgue

UriclubTk: Why not trust a guy you murdered, yeah.

LV5_Papermancer: Jesus, that grenade just keeps on exploading.

UriclubTk: Oh god Gamespy.

Lrrose20: I keep forgetting the Mordecai was in Tales from the Borderlands for five minutes

llabruf: rip gamespy

Lrrose20: Brick had the same amount of screentime and I remember his appearance, but Mordy is so bland

UriclubTk: Wait Rose remind me when the fuck was that

UriclubTk: I swear I legit dont remember him at all after playing through it

Lrrose20: Brick and Mordecai are the "boss fight" of episode 3

UriclubTk: Oh right

Lrrose20: They attack Fiona and Athena and win, which is how Athena got captured in Presequel's framing device

llabruf: i feel like replaying tales. or maybe just watching all the openings again

UriclubTk: OH YEAH. Man that was a weird appearance

UriclubTk: I'm so glad they're apparently getting a new engine for the next borderlands though.

New to Self Publishing? Writing Tips for New Writers - Duration: 5:46.

A lot has changed since I started writing.

If you're a new writer, you can't really look at bestselling indie authors right now

and be assured that what worked for them will work for you now.

In this video, I'm going to talk about how to start a writing career today, what I'd

do differently, and what I would avoid.

What's up, guys?

My name is Michael La Ronn with Author Level Up, helping you write better and faster.

If you're new here, consider subscribing, and click the little bell to get helpful writing

videos every week.

I remember when I was just starting out on my writing journey.

I was determined, but scared.

There was so much to learn.

This was during the end of the Kindle Gold Rush, so it was still the wild west as far

as self-publishing goes.

I started with nothing.

My first month of publishing, I made $5.79, and that doesn't really count because I

sold two books, and my mom bought one copy, and my friend bought the other.

I went for months with zero sales.

And I'm still not a bestseller yet, so maybe my advice will be more helpful for you guys

since I'm closer to some of you newbies.

When it comes to the topic of starting out, so many people are looking for answers to

the KDP Select question.

I answer that elsewhere, but honestly, I think it's irrelevant.

Whether you do KDP Select or not, if you don't get the basics of writing craft and marketing

down, it won't really matter if you're exclusive or wide.

If I were starting out today, the first thing I would do is make a list of all the things

you need to learn: book formatting, story craft, marketing, Photoshop, websites, etc.

I'd break all of those into sub-categories, and I would go learn them, one-by-one.

I'd invest money where it made sense, including courses.

The sooner you can get yourself acquainted with the best practices, the better off you'll

be.

Most people don't take their learning seriously.

They just wander about, not really learning how to format a book or write an opening to

a chapter or create an engaging website.

My problem was that I tried to learn everything at once, which backfired on me.

If I had to do it again, I would be more systematic about it.

For tips on what to learn, check the video description for a video I did a while back

on creating a learning plan for yourself.

Another thing I'd do differently is that I would have jumped into video sooner.

Video is still the number one way to stand out in today's environment, and if I had

done it sooner and had been more serious about growing my channel when I started, it would

have accelerated my growth.

Video is an easy way for people to get to know you, or feel like they know you.

99% of people are so terrified of it that you'll be in the elite 1% if you do it.

Video has a learning curve, to be sure, but I've always considered that curve to be

a barrier to entry for people who aren't serious about it.

Video will teach you about copywriting, marketing and promotion, audience engagement, and production

quality ten times faster than blogging or podcasting.

Video is all about keeping people's attention.

If you can do it with video, you can do it with anything.

When I started off, I had a crappy blog.

I didn't even know what copywriting was.

I wrote about trite things that no one cared about.

I tried a solo podcast back in 2014, and it bombed.

If I had just spent some money on a DSLR and learned how to shoot high-quality video and

showcase my personality that way, it would have worked better for me.

When you do video like me, it makes you appear like an instant expert, even if you're not.

It's still unusual right now for writers to do video.

I would take advantage of that.

A video once or twice a month telling your readers what you're working on, what you're

reading, and some fun items to keep people engaged, like trivia or bad jokes or something.

Let people get to know you, and link to those videos in the back of your books and in your

email newsletters.

Another thing I would have done differently is that I would have studied the works of

mega-bestsellers religiously.

John Grisham, Stephen King, Nora Roberts,—those writers.

I'm learning advanced craft techniques from them right now that are making me look at

my early work and cringe.

But I'm learning craft faster than I ever did when I was reading blogs and listening

to podcasts.

And the final thing I would have done differently is that I would have tried to think longer

term about the craft skills I would need.

For example, I could have learned to write character injuries more convincingly into

my stories by learning the basics of injuries, and what happens when someone gets shot, for

instance.

I could have learned more about science and space physics.

I could have learned more about my country's legal system so I could write it accurately.

As I look at my career now, the areas where I'm weakest are the areas where I could

have done more research into basic facts of life.

But I didn't know what I know.

If I could go back, I would learn about: injuries, guns, how to research historical times correctly,

police procedure, legal systems, and military operations.

It's amazing how those things come up in your novels all the time.

Better to learn how to do it right.

In case you're curious, there are some things I'd do the same if I had to start all over

again.

I invested a lot of time in mastering Scrivener and Ulysses.

That paid off for me.

Learning how to format my books on an advanced level paid off for me.

Writing poetry and short stories helped me.

Writing across genre helped me.

I'd do those all over again.

Anyway, that's the advice I'd give you if I were just starting my writing career

today.

If you're a new writer, enjoy it.

Despite all the mistakes I made, I still look back on my early years fondly.

If you're new to writing, I put together a playlist of videos that will help you get

your bearings and get started with confidence.

I've got videos on writing craft, the best podcasts and blogs, and of course, writing

books to help you start your career off on a solid foundation.

You can check it out right here.

That's it for this video.

If this is your first time watching, I'd love to have you subscribe.

Every week I publish videos just like this one with writing advice to help you write

better and grow your influence with readers.

I'll see you in the next video.

Thanks for watching.
