Andrew Scheps: Regroover is kind of scary - Duration: 1:35.
- Software that learns
and what it's doing,
is it listens the way humans listen.
- [Narrator] Andrew Scheps is a
Grammy Award winning mixing engineer
as well as a renowned producer and record label owner.
Even though Andrew started as a musician,
he discovered that working in the studio
is what he enjoys the most.
He has toured with Stevie Wonder
and Michael Jackson,
and he's the mixing engineer of multi awarded records
by some of the biggest names in the industry.
Such as Jay-Z, Adele, Justin Timberlake,
Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Beyonce
and many more.
We had a Skype interview with Andrew
and asked him what he thinks about Regroover.
- It's crazy.
And I've actually used it to do other things.
Just to see what would happen.
You can get some crazy effects
where it will just completely hollow out
the sound of an instrument.
A human can very easily decide,
"Oh, I'm gonna listen to the bass.
Now I'm gonna listen to the guitar.
Now I'm gonna listen to the drums."
That's the way Regroover works,
as it listens the way humans listen.
And that's how it can split stuff up.
And what is so great about it,
is the idea that the software can listen
better than you can.
There's no way you could tell a computer
how to separate things.
You have to tell the computer how to listen
and then it decides how to separate.
And that, I think, is a huge leap forward.
And Regroover's just kind of scary
in how cool it's decision making is.

Golden Lions' loss is the Springboks' gain
Golden Lions' loss is the Springboks' gain.
The Golden Lions' loss is the Springboks' gain with scrumhalf Ross Cronjé having to sit out Saturday's Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls at Loftus because of national duty.
Cronjé has been earmarked to travel with the Boks for their Tests against Australia in Brisbane next week and New Zealand in Wellington a week later.
Cronjé‚ who captained the Lions in their Currie Cup opener against Griquas last week‚ will be replaced in the starting lineup by Dillon Smit.
The team will now be captained by lock Marvin Orie.
While the Lions will miss Cronjé's composure behind the scrum‚ they will have the straight running of Lionel Mapoe back in midfield after doing duty for the Boks in Mendoza.
He will partner Howard Mnisi in midfield but soon there will be a strong case to be made for the inclusion from the start of the marvelously gifted Wandisile Simelane.
The former SA Schools player made an impressive debut off the bench against Griquas last week.
He took an outside gap before scything through to score.
Also on the bench is strapping wing Madosh Tambwe who has returned from injury.
The Lions will square up against a Blue Bulls team desperate to atone for their defeat in Durban at the hands of the Sharks last week.
Their defensive frailties were exposed and the Lions‚ with their commitment to attack‚ may well prove a handful.
With the Currie Cup reduced to only a single round the Blue Bulls can ill afford to slip up again‚ especially not at home.
Golden Lions team: Andries Coetzee; Sylvian Mahuza‚ Lionel Mapoe‚ Howard Mnisi‚ Courtnall Skosan; Shaun Reynolds‚ Dillon Smit; Hacjivah Dayimani‚ Len Massyn‚ James Venter; Marvin Orie (captain)‚ Rhyno Herbst; Johannes Jonker‚ Corne Fourie‚ Sti Sithole.
Substitutes: Pieter Jansen‚ Danie Mienie‚ Jacobie Adriaanse‚ Reinhard Nothnagel‚ Vincent Tshituka‚ Madosh Tambwe‚ Wandisile Simelane.

Chippa Mpengesi is misunderstood‚ says new Chippa United coach Eric Tinkler
Chippa Mpengesi is misunderstood‚ says new Chippa United coach Eric Tinkler.
Eric Tinkler has said that the controversial Siviwe "Chippa" Mpengesi‚ owner of struggling Absa Premiership side Chippa United‚ has a good heart and he is largely misunderstood.
Mpengesi is well known for being trigger-happy when it comes to firing coaches.
New Chippa coach Tinkler‚ however‚ says he is not worried about the chop as he has negotiated a deal to lead the club‚ who are sitting at the foot of the Absa Premiership standings after four matches‚ with full understanding of the terms and conditions.
Tinkler arrived in Port Elizabeth last week following the dismissal of Dan Malesela after three league matches and he faces a mammoth task to get Chippa's campaign on track.
"I have actually found this man to have a soft spot and I think people just misunderstand him to a degree‚" said Tinkler after he lost his first match 2-1 as Chippa coach to his old team‚ SuperSport United‚ in Pretoria on Wednesday.
"Be a player or a coach‚ you get an opportunity in the negotiations to ensure that the terms and conditions of your contract suit you.
You can't be coming out later and complaining about certain things.
I made sure that the terms are good‚" he said.
"After sitting down with him [Mpengesi]‚ I realised that he also gets a little bit hard-pressed‚ if I must be honest.
He is very passionate about his club and he has the right to be.
"Nobody likes to see coaches being fired but I have also just been without a job for about six months and it is not easy.
But‚ that is the life of the game because the expectations and demands are increasingly greater." Tinkler‚ who has been without a club for about six months since he was fired by SuperSport earlier in the year‚ said that he took the Chippa job because he believes in the players at the club.
"I recognised the squad because I watched them and I believe that it is a good squad.
I have been working with the boys for four days and there is a lot of work to be done‚" he said.
"Fortunately there is the Fifa break and it will give us the opportunity to work on certain things.
"My immediate focus is defence because we conceded soft goals against SuperSport.
We must show bravery on set pieces and in terms of our marking.".

What is SEO - Duration: 1:22.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization
Which is the overall practice of raising your website's profile in the eyes of Google so that it would rank higher
in Search Engine Results Pages.
It is divided into two distinct practices:
On-site and Off-site optimization.
In on-site optimization we look at your website through Google's eyes
Asking questions such as are the images fast load?
Is it optimized for mobile use?
Is the content updated and well-tagged?
Off-site SEO is the ongoing practice of placing links on other websites to your platform.
These are websites
Should have quality traffic and known audiences. SEO is an ongoing,
Highly technical practice that takes months to yield results which is why it's very important that you start early on.
It is not optional anymore it has become mandatory, so if you're planning on making a website, or currently have one,
Make sure your website is SEO compliant.
