Pep Guardiola: Manchester City manager accepts charge for wearing yellow ribbon

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has accepted a Football Association charge over wearing a political message, specifically a yellow ribbon.

Guardiola had until 18:00 GMT today to respond to a charge of breaching the FAs kit and advertising regulations.

In November, Guardiola said he wore the ribbon to support imprisoned politicians in his native Catalonia.

Following his admission of the charge, a hearing has been requested, with a date still to be set.

The FA spoke to the City boss about the situation in December and had previously issued two formal warnings.

Action was taken though when he wore it pitchside - he is free to wear it elsewhere - during Citys FA Cup fifth-round defeat at Wigan on 19 February.

Two key members of the Catalan independence movement, Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sanchez, were held without bail after an independence vote in October, which the Spanish government deemed illegal.

Guardiola said in November: If one day in prison was already too much, look how many days theyve been there now.

Like everybody knows, hopefully sooner or later I can stop wearing it.

All the politicians that are in prison, I hope they can leave and go back home soon with their families and continue living the lives they deserve.

The FA spoke to Pep Guardiola twice before charging him after Man Citys FA Cup defeat at Wigan.

Analysis.

BBC Radio 5 live sports news correspondent Richard Conway.

It is understood that the Manchester City manager does not see this as an apology - but that he will observe the rules of the country where he is working.

Guardiola actively attempted to cover up the ribbon during Citys past two games against Arsenal and Chelsea.

During the FA Cup defeat at Wigan before that, it is thought that he unintentionally displayed the ribbon after unzipping his jacket.

He will continue to wear the yellow ribbon when he can - so pre and post-match.

Its only pitchside, during the 90 minutes of the game, where the Football Associations regulation applies.

Guardiola accepted the charge on Saturday, but it is believed that he and Manchester City pointed out what they perceive to be a number of inconsistencies in the FAs regulations - such as the fact they appear to jar with Uefas policy of allowing political symbols so long as they are deemed inoffensive.

Liam Livingstone: Uncapped batsman fit for England Tests in New Zealand

Liam Livingstone has six centuries for Lancashire in 33 matches and has a first-class average of 45.

Uncapped batsman Liam Livingstone has been passed fit for Englands Test series in New Zealand later this month.

The 24-year-old suffered an ankle injury on England Lions duty against West Indies A in Antigua in February.

Lancashire captain Livingstone trained with bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad at Edgbaston on Monday and came through a net session without concerns.

He is set to arrive in Hamilton on 9 March, with the first day-night Test taking place on 22 March in Auckland.

The second Test is in Christchurch from 30 March.

Jurgen Klopp takes blame for Adam Lallana's stunted season ahead of likely return - Duration: 3:09.

Jurgen Klopp takes blame for Adam Lallana's stunted season ahead of likely return

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reassured Adam Lallana he still has a key part to play for the remainder of the season.

The England midfielder has not started a match since the FA Cup win over Everton in early January after two setbacks from a thigh problem saw him miss the first four months of the campaign.

Lallana has managed just 186 minutes of Premier League action since making his comeback from that pre-season injury in November, but against Porto he could be in line for his first European appearance since the 2016 Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.

Adam absolutely was an integral part of the team and with the competition we have for Adam it is still usually not a problem for him, because he is important to us, said Klopp.

But he needed only time. Life is to learn from your mistakes and we all have to learn.

We made this mistake—he looked fit. Maybe two little setbacks, not the biggest setbacks, but in and out, in and out, and that makes so sense so now we have to build with him. He is coming close.

But of course he now has now no rhythm, which is another thing. We still need him, we will use him still.

He is cool, he sees the quality of the team is good, but he is always one of the guys who push the level in training on to the next level, because he is always so intense in all the things he is doing.

So the time will come for him 100 percent. Whether it is tomorrow, I don't know..

The Reds have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals as they defend a 5-0 lead when they host Porto at Anfield on Tuesday.

Klopp will resist the urge to make sweeping changes despite the fact that only an historic comeback by the Portuguese club will stop his side coasting into the last eight.

That could mean the likes of 32-goal Mohamed Salah, who has played 3,060 minutes for his club this term, and 22-goal Roberto Firmino (3,053) will feature in what is essentially a dead rubber. They are all desperate to play, to be honest.

When I said we will not rest any players I was thinking more that we will bring the best team we can have for this game, added Klopp, who insists he will not have one eye on Saturday's trip to Man United.

We will bring them in for this game and not for the game after that. You have to show up or anything else leads to more problems.

If you change anything it is for this game and not because we play Man United. You must do your best, show respect and keep the momentum going.

So I will have a few talks with the boys, but no talks will be about, 'Do you want [to play], do you not want [to]?".

Salah has scored in nine of the last 10 matches and a goal on Tuesday would see him equal the club record of goals in eight consecutive matches set by Dick Forshaw (1924/25) and John Aldridge (1988/89).

He would be an obvious man to rest but Klopp does not know whether keeping him playing is best for someone on such a scoring streak. These things are good for him. Both ways, he said.

They are playing Saturday and Saturday and there is rhythm in that as well so we could say that is OK—do we need a Tuesday game for the rhythm?. I don't think there is a 100 percent answer..

Oscars 2018: NBA legend Kobe Bryant wins prize for best short animated film

Dear Basketball, written by Bryant (left) and directed by Glen Keane (right), is based on a letter Bryant wrote announcing his plans to retire.

NBA legend Kobe Bryant won the Oscar for best short animated film in Sundays award ceremony in Los Angeles.

The six-time NBA championship winner was recognised for Dear Basketball, a five-minute film based on a love letter to the sport he had written in 2015.

When Bryant ended his career in 2016, the LA Lakers retired the two jerseys he wore during his 20-year spell.

In accepting his award, the 39-year-old spoke in defence of athletes influence on cultural and political life.

He said: As basketball players, were really supposed to shut up and dribble.

But Im glad we do a little bit more than that.

Thank you, Academy, for this amazing honour.

His words referenced comments made by Laura Ingraham, a Fox News presenter who criticised Golden State Warriors Kevin Durant and Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James for openly stating their opposition to US President Donald Trump.

From 1 to 48,655: Kobe Bryants career in numbers Farewell to the Mamba: Kobe Bryant.

She had said they should keep the political commentary to themselves, or as somebody once said, shut up and dribble.

Dear Basketball, written by Bryant and directed by Glen Keane, is based on a letter Bryant had published on The Players Tribune website, announcing his plans to retire from basketball.

Bryant remains the Lakers all-time point scorer - he only ever played for one team - and is third on the NBAs all-time list with 33,643 points.
