Hey guys, today we're going to talk about the evidence behind
Matcha benefits, and at the end of this video I'm going to answer the question
is Matcha this magical beverage that is going to solve all of your health problems
I am making this video today after having a very interesting conversation about
the health benefits of Matcha with Dr. Alafghani. We will be posting this
interview soon in our #chitchatandmatcha series, so make sure you subscribe to our
Channel. I want to start by saying that most of the presumed health benefits of
Matcha were concluded from studies done on regular green tea and not green tea
in the Matcha form, or from studies done on certain compounds that Matcha is rich
with; mainly catechins and l-theanine. Today i'm going to be talking about the
benefits of Matcha based on studies done on Matcha powder. The first study and the
one that I'm most excited about, is a study that was published in January 2018
in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. It was
found that Matcha green tea drinking can enhance exercise induced fat oxidation
in women. The volunteers in this study were 13 women around the age of 27. Each
participant had 3 Matcha beverages the day before exercise, all made with 1
gram of premium grade matcha, and then 1 beverage 2 hours before exercise.
The exercise was in the form of a 30-minute brisk walk. So if you are
exercising and drinking premium-grade Matcha this study suggests that you will
have more fat oxidation. The reason why I'm excited is that finally we have
evidence that was based on a study done on Matcha, that Matcha can increase fat
oxidation. Another study was published in September 2017 and the Food Research
International. This study found that consuming Matcha in a realistic dose
could have a slight effect on speed of attention and memory. However, there are
2 things about this study that are important to mention. First, the results were
better when drinking matcha tea instead of eating much of bars, which I think
those are the theory that when you alter a process Matcha it might lose its
benefits. Second it did not have any significant
effects on the mood, however, I'm not sure if any of the participants had any mood
issues like anxieties, so I don't really know if you can exactly rule that out.
From my experience, I have many friends and customers that
have told me the reason they continue to drink Matcha, is for the way that it makes
them feel. Another study was published in January 2017, in the Food and Function
Journal. They evaluated the effect of Matcha at different concentrations in
mice that were fed a high-fat diet. They found that the consumption of matcha was
associated with the decrease of the total cholesterol, the triglycerides, and
the LDL, which is the bad cholesterol, and an increase in the HDL which is the good
cholesterol. They also found that Matcha could significantly lower blood glucose
levels. Another interesting finding was that the insoluble part of Matcha or the
Matcha residue could possibly play a role in the suppression of diet induced
high lipid and glucose. Another study was published in 2009 in the Journal of
Medicinal Food. This study suggested that Matcha could protect against kidney and
liver damage and type-2 diabetic rats, and these are two organs that could be
affected by diabetes. Diabetes can cause what's called a fatty liver and it can
sometimes damage the kidneys to the point of needing dialysis. Last I'd like
to talk about the anti-cancer and the skin protective properties that
everybody is talking about. Those presumed benefits were based on studies
done on green tea and compounds that Matcha is rich with and I'm going to
link those studies below so you can check those out.
Now I'm going to answer the question I mentioned at the beginning of this video,
is Matcha this magical beverage is going to solve all of your health problems? The
answer is no! There is no such thing. Based on research, it has the potential
of lowering cholesterol, increasing fat burning, and improving concentration, and
based on personal experiences, it has the potential of improving mood, and
suppressing appetite. So what I always tell my customers my friends is look at
Matcha at being this amazing truly one-of-a-kind tool that you could easily
incorporate into your life to help you reach your health goals. Make it part of
your healthy lifestyle that also includes exercise taking care of your
mind and your body and conscious eating, knowing what you're putting in your body.
