So it's that time of year again. An anime convention is in town. For lovers of
anime and pop-culture everywhere, it's a time that EVERYBODY has been
looking forward to since the end of the last convention. For a cosplayer like
yourself, you decided months ago that you wanted to dress up as your favorite
character from this season's anime shows. So, you've been slaving away most free
nights and weekends to get your costume done on time.
Fortunately for you, your friend Steve was kind enough to help you out. He's
not cosplaying at the next con, so he has bit more free time these days. Thanks, Steve.
So you managed to get your costume done a day before the convention. Not too
bad! The challenge now is making sure everything fits in your suitcase. Steve
looks like he's already finished. Apart from the same things Steve has packed, you
also need to fit your costume: the shirt, jacket, pants, cape, boots and gloves, along
with the wig, makeup bag and props. Wow! Good thing you only made one costume for
this weekend. Hmm, might have to take an extra bag though. So, after a drive to the hotel,
checking in and going to bed, the next thing you hear is... your alarm going off.
Saturday morning, 7:00 a.m. Oh man, who ever said convention mornings are for
sleeping in? Steve is still sound asleep. You need to start getting ready in your costume
now if you actually want to get to the convention in time. Cold morning, cold
makeup and contact lenses in your tired eyes. Eurgh. Hey, at least you'll look good!
Voila! Makeup's done, costume's on, wig's straight, prop in hand: you're ready to
go! Steve woke up a few minutes to go for breakfast,
looks like getting up early was the right choice! So you both head on down to
the cafe for some grub, but as you'd expect, people can't help but stare.
No worries, we'll bring that out to you when it's ready!
*intense staring*
Phew, big crowd today! You eventually make your way to
the front doors where Steve pays for his ticket ahead of you and you remember - you
need to grab your wallet. So put your props down, put your bag down,
grab your wallet out of your bag, grab your ticket, and then do everything in
reverse order again. Man, it sucks having pants without pockets.
But hey! After a bit of looking around, you manage to locate some old friends you
haven't seen since last convention. Oh, a photo!
Alright! Now, as you were talking before... ah, another photo! That's alright!
Ah... well, best time for photos is at the start of the day I guess!
You know, it's always really flattering when someone asks to take a picture. Fellow fans of the
series you're cosplaying from, or just onlookers who think that you look
fantastic! But then you get the ones who are a bit more...eager.
- Hey man! Can I take a photo? - Sorry man, in a bit!
Hey man, can I take a photo? One minute? Thanks!
*peeing* Oh hey man! Can I take a photo?
What...? No! No! What the hell!
Phew! Walking around wearing a costume can really get pretty tiring!
Time to take a break! How're you feeling so far? Probably a little bit hot in that thing.
Your feet are probably aching a bit, your wig feels a little bit tight, and your eyes are starting to
sting a little from the contact lenses. Oup! And that bit of your prop is starting to fall
apart! Better fix it up!
Dammit...damn you Steve and your comfy shoes and ice cream...
And unfortunately, just like all good things, the convention day eventually
comes to a close. This is Steve, carrying bags of his shopping from the day.
And...this is you. Carrying mostly bits and pieces of your costume that was too uncomfortable to wear home.
You have fun today dude?
Y-yeah! Had heaps of fun today! Uh, you?
Yeah, yeah...was heaps of fun...right?
Right...?
Oh God.
G'day fellas, how're you goin'?
So sometimes after a bad con day, you always end up wondering: why am I still cosplaying? What's the point
of me still doing this? But in the end, everyone's got their own reasons for persevering and
the(ir) reason(s) for why we still keep loving it. Whether it be meeting people, catching up
with old friends, just challenging themself, or just for the pure
enjoyment of making something! But I think every cosplayer struggles with the same things
and that's one of the reasons that we all bond together so well. So, hope you enjoyed
this one, I got to use my new tripod for this video which was really cool to use! We've got part two of
''Let's Watch the WCS videos together!'' coming soon, so I hope you guys are looking forward
to that as much as I am! Anyway, that's it for me for now, thanks
for watching, I'll see you guys again soon! Bye!
